Sypnosis:

"After Franco's victory, Dr. Guillermo García Medina (Javier Rey) continues to live in Madrid under a false identity. The documentation that freed him from the wall was a gift from his best friend, Manuel Arroyo Benítez (Tamar Novas), a Republican diplomat whose life he saved in 1937. He had his moment of glory as a professional boxer before enlisting in the Blue Division to continue fighting as an SS volunteer and participate in the last defense of Berlin. Cañar 23 años como Capital Arqueológica y Cultural del Ecuador

El Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Intercultural del cantón Cañar con la sesión solemne conmemoró los 23 años de declaratoria como Cañar Capital Arqueológica y Cultural del Ecuador que se cumple cada 26 de enero. El evento contó con la participación del alcalde Segundo Yugsi, vicealcaldesa Adriana Naula, Concejales, y autoridades provinciales, cantonales y parroquiales. En el acto solemne se dio a conocer los comunicados enviados por las autoridades nacionales y provinciales, instituciones públicas y privadas, quienes se hicieron presentes con un saludo reverente a la tierra cañarí por su enorme riqueza arqueológica, histórica, tradición y cultura viva en honor a su declaratoria. En su discurso de orden el alcalde Segundo Yugsi manifestó que la diversidad cultural, la interculturalidad y la magia simbólica que emanan de Cañar son aspectos que nos enorgullecen y definen nuestra identidad. “Hoy nos reunimos con gran regocijo para conmemorar los 23 años de la declaratoria de Cañar como Capital Arqueológica y Cultural del Ecuador. Este reconocimiento, otorgado un 26 de enero de 2001, constituye un tributo a la destacada presencia de los testimonios históricos, arqueológicos, y de la cultura viva de los cañaris, posicionando a nuestra ciudad y provincia como el epicentro de la arqueología del país”, dijo. Se otorgó preseas y menciones honorificas que buscan identificar, discernir, estimular y premiar las acciones de instituciones y personas orientadas al buen vivir; en procura de resaltar  los valores de la sociedad cañarí, se concedió los siguientes reconocimientos: Condecoración a la mención “Capital Arqueológica y Cultural del Ecuador” por haber contribuido con  la restauración arquitectónica de los inmuebles históricos que se encuentran dentro del inventario del Instituto  de Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación, al señor José Gilberto Maniato Santos. Condecoración a la mención “Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Intercultural de Cañar” por su destacada labor demostrada durante su actividad diaria, en sus planes y programas, acciones que han promovido actividades amigables con la naturaleza, cumpliendo y apoyando a que se respete y reconozca los derechos que hoy la naturaleza tiene consagrados en la Constitución, a las siguientes personas: María Chimborazo Calle, Carmen Siguencia Maldonado, Unidad Educativa San José de Calasanz. Connecting artists from the Tiger Strikes Asteroid (TSA) network with Mexico's most creative minds, we are thrilled to present "Where You Left Off." This international collaboration and exhibition initiative bridges artists across borders, bringing dialogue and exchange to the forefront.

This project draws together twenty artists, across six cities and two countries. Ten artists from the TSA network (Philadelphia, Chicago, LA, Greenville, and New York) have been connected with ten artists in and around Mexico City. Over the past year, the artists have been exchanging ideas and insights about their practices. The curators have closely followed the artists' virtual conversations and correspondences, as the collective has progressively shared where they’ve left things off.

While these exchanges have been virtually broadcasted on our online platform, we are thrilled to present the resulting work from these ten collaborations in TSA's gallery at the Crane Arts building in Philadelphia. This exhibition will be followed by a second iteration taking place in Mexico City, showcasing the next episode of this ongoing artistic dialogue.

ATLETA KENIANO GANA LA CARRERA INTERNACIONAL DE LA AMISTAD

Ciudad Juárez, Chih., domingo 28 de agosto de 2022.-El atleta  keniano Wilfred Nyatogo,  se adjudicó el lugar de honor en la edición número 53 de la Carrera Internacional de la Amistad tras recorrer los 10 kilómetros de esta tradicional competencia 30:48 minutos, para subir a lo más alto del podio

En tanto, el juarense Daniel Reyes, obtuvo el segundo lugar con un tiempo 31:24 y el tercer lugar José Arturo Contreras con 32:30, seguido de Andrés Avilés y Alberto Calvo, quienes quedaron en cuarto y quinto lugar al registrar un tiempo de 32:40 y 33:57, respectivamente.

A su vez, en la rama femenil, Ana Gisela Reyes fue la primera en llegar a la meta, con un tiempo de 41:07 minutos; Elizabeth Ávila obtuvo el segundo puesto con 41:22 y Brenda Ochoa recorrió los 10 kilómetros en 43:19, para subir al podio en tercer lugar; Lucero Michel e Ignacia Ramírez completaron la lista de los cinco primeros lugares al detener su cronómetro en 45:48 y 45:56 minutos, de manera respectiva. Los atletas locales Daniel y Ana Reyes destacaron al ganar las categorías de Mejor Juarense y Mejor Chihuahuense. En la categoría Tarahumara, Alfonso González llegó en 37:01 minutos, Raúl Flores en 38:14 y José Antonio Bauticia en 39:07, los cuales hicieron el 1, 2 y 3, en la rama varonil. Asimismo, Verónica Ramírez logró un tiempo de 47:35minutos y ganó la primera posición; María Chávez con 1:01:14 horas, la segunda y Verónica Guadalupe con 1:05:11, la tercera. En la carrera recreativa, la categoría Secundaria estuvo liderada por Óscar Cortez, al cumplir los cuatro kilómetros en 18:42 minutos; Mauricio González conquistó el segundo lugar con 20:40 minutos y Levi Isaí Morales ocupó el tercer puesto, con 21:00. En la categoría Preparatoria, Alan Pereda conquistó el primer peldaño de la carrera recreativa, al cumplir el recorrido en 16:26 minutos; Fernando González llegó en segundo al detener su tiempo en 16:30 y Heron Cortés terminó tercero, con 16:50 minutos. September 15 begins Hispanic Heritage Month — we’re kicking off the month by honoring a number of figures who historically have blazed a trail for the Hispanic American community

Fernando Valenzuela is a former MLB pitcher most famous for his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1980-90. A Mexican immigrant, Valenzuela’s raw talent & colorful personality made him an instant hit with the Dodgers’ significant Latinx fanbase. The ensuing media frenzy became known as ‘Fernandomania’ and represented one of the first times in MLB history that a Hispanic player was a face of baseball. Valenzuela retired in 1997. In 2015, he became a naturalized American citizen.

Sonia Sotomayor is the first Latinx Supreme Court justice in U.S. history, having served since 2009. The daughter of Puerto Rican-born Americans, Sotomayor spent the bulk of her childhood being raised by a single mom in the Bronx, NY. Sotomayor graduated summa cum laude from Princeton in 1976 and earned a law degree from Yale Law School in 1979. Prior to being appointed to the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama, she was a federal judge for 17 years. Her SCOTUS tenure has been characterized by decisions emphasizing criminal justice reform and the civil rights of both defendants and minority communities.

Sylvia Mendez was just 8 years old when she became a civil rights icon. Growing up in 1940s California as the daughter of Mexican & Puerto Rican immigrants, Mendez was a central figure in the landmark 9th Circuit Court of Appeals case Mendez v. Westminster. The decision found that segregating Mexican American students into separate schools in California was unconstitutional and led to the desegregation of all public schools in the state. The arguments used in Mendez v. Westminster later served as a precursor for the 1954 landmark SCOTUS segregation case Brown v. Board of Ed. After childhood, Mendez went on to work as a nurse & a public speaker, and she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.

In 2015, Raffi Freedman-Gurspan made history as the first openly transgender person to serve in the White House in U.S. history. A longtime activist & expert on matters pertaining to LGBTQ+ civil rights and gender equality, Freedman-Gurspan was born in Honduras and raised by adoptive parents in Massachusetts. After graduating college in 2009, she pursued activism on the state level in MA for a few years before being hired as a policy adviser at the National Center for Transgender Equality. Her work focused on a number of issues impacting trans Americans, including homelessness, immigration, & incarceration. From there, she served 2 years in the Obama admin, first as an outreach & recruitment director and then as the White House’s LGBT liaison.

Ellen Ochoa is an icon for Latinx women in STEM. An engineer, astronaut, and former director of the Johnson Space Center, Ochoa made history in 1993 when she became the first Hispanic woman to travel to space while aboard the space shuttle Discovery. In her career as an astronaut, Ochoa logged approx 1,000 hours in space across 4 missions. Ochoa, who is a recipient of NASA's Distinguished Service Medal, was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2017.

Arturo Alfonso Schomburg (1874-1938) was an author, historian, activist, and leading intellectual of the Harlem Renaissance. Schomburg was an Afro Latino of Puerto Rican, Black, and German heritage. Over his career, he worked tirelessly to identify, document, and preserve elements of Black history & culture, including art, manuscripts, slave narratives, and other artifacts. The works he amassed are now a collection in the New York Public Library at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. Schomburg was once quoted as saying, ‘Pride of race is the antidote to prejudice.’

At 88 years young, Rita Moreno remains a treasure of the stage and screen. She is the only Hispanic actor in history to complete the hallowed EGOT, having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award between 1962 and 1977. Her Oscar win, for the supporting role of Anita in 1961’s ‘West Side Story,’ remains her most iconic part. In recent decades, Moreno is perhaps best known for starring in the Netflix reboot of ‘One Day at a Time.’ In addition to her acting awards, Moreno has also been a Kennedy Center honoree and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004.

Sylvia Rivera was an American icon of the early LGBTQ+ liberation movement, with a specific focus on activism for LGBTQ+ people of color and LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness. Together with her friend Marsha P. Johnson, Rivera was a fixture in New York City’s radical activist and cultural scene in the 1970s and ‘80s. Rivera & Johnson founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), a local collective that provided housing and aid to young LGBTQ+ New Yorkers at the time. Rivera, who was of Venezuelan & Puerto Rican descent, died in 2002 at the age of 50. In 2005, the corner of Hudson & Christopher streets in NYC’s Greenwich Village was renamed Sylvia Rivera Way.

June 18, 2021: King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia attended an event of delivery of the Order of Civil Merit Condecorations to mark the 7th anniversary of King Felipe’s proclamation.

On the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the Proclamation of His Majesty the King, as on previous occasions -2015 and 2019- it is a matter of expressing the recognition of the Crown to those who carry out their life and ordinary professional work in an exemplary way, at the service of society.

On this occasion, in a very special way, for their contribution during the challenge of Covid-19, we recognize citizens for their example of personal commitment and social contribution.

The selection, with criteria of representation and territorial and sectoral balance, is the result of the Crown’s contact with society and has been carried out with the institutional contribution of all the administrations and also of many other entities, organizations, associations and representative groups in different fields, labor, economic, social, educational and cultural. Those who have been recognized with the Medal of the Order of Civil Merit are a reflection of the situation experienced by millions of people in the time marked by the pandemic and its consequences.

The 17 Autonomous Communities and the two Autonomous Cities are represented, with twice the representation, the Communities with a population of more than 5 million (Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencian Community and Madrid). There are 16 women and 8 men aged between 30 and 74 years old.

The professions represented have to do with different sectors: Health, Research, Agriculture, Livestock, Fishing, Hospitality, Commerce, Transport, Logistics, Services, Volunteering, Education and Culture. During the most acute phase of the pandemic and confinement, all these sectors showed the fundamental role they play every day in the lives of citizens. There are five fundamental groups of awarded: those linked to the rural world and the primary sector, those related to knowledge management (education, culture and science), those linked to volunteering and the third sector, health workers and, finally, some of the professions that were shown, in addition to health workers, as essential during the confinement of the pandemic.

During the event, Their Majesties the King and Queen, HRH the Princess of Asturias and HRH the Infanta Doña Sofía were accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and Grand Chancellor of the Order of Civil Merit, Arancha González Spade; the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and Chancellor of the Order of Civil Merit, María Celsa Nuño; and by the general director of Protocol, Chancellery and Orders and secretary of the Order of Civil Merit, Caridad Batalla.

Elena Ochoa, who acted as master of ceremony, read the biographies of the citizens who received the decorations of the Order of Civil Merit, which were:

The preamble to the order states that “its purpose is to reward merits of a civil nature, acquired by personnel dependent on any of the public Administrations” or “by persons outside the Administration, who render or have rendered relevant services to the State. , with extraordinary work, profitable initiatives, or with exemplary constancy in the fulfillment of their duties. This decoration may also be awarded to persons of foreign nationality, provided they have rendered distinguished services to Spain or a notable collaboration in all matters that benefit the Nation. His Majesty the King is the Grand Master of the Order of Civil Merit. All the decorations of this order will be conferred in his name and the corresponding titles will be authorized with the stamp of his signature.

La Capilla Alfonsina es una casa de cultura, museo y centro de estudios literarios que se encuentra en la casa donde vivió el escritor mexicano Alfonso Reyes Ochoa, desde que se retiro del servicio diplomático hasta su muerte. Con adscripción a la Secretaría de Cultura del Gobierno de México, a través del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, su función se centra en la promoción, difusión y divulgación de la literatura, su historia y el legado cultural del escritor regiomontano, así como en la preservación de la colección artística y bibliográfica que Alfonso Reyes amasó a lo largo de su vida. El término Capilla Alfonsina fue acuñado por Enrique Díez-Canedo, amigo del escritor.
