Lav Kush Ramlila 2022: Bollywood stars steal the show on opening day at Red Fort

New Delhi , September 27 (AF): The nine-day Sharad Navratri celebration officially began on September 26 in which various traditions are observed across the nation during this time. One such important event is the Lav Kush Ramlila which is staged by Lav Kush Ramlila Committee.
The world-famous Lav Kush Ramlila that is held under Delhi's Red Fort ramparts commenced on Monday. Bollywood actor Asrani stole the show on opening day. The 'Sholay' actor played the character of Narad Muni as he mesmerised everyone with his performance.
Like every year, the Lav Kush Ramlila witnessed a jam-packed Day 1 which enthralled and absorbed the audience at Red Fort. The committee will continue to host hundreds and thousands of people during the exuberant festivities of Dussehra in Delhi.
Arjun Kumar, President of Lav Kush Ramlila committee, Vijay Sampla, Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, and Vinod Tawde, General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) started the proceedings of the day by praying to God Ganesha.
Arjun Kumar and Committee's General Secretary Subhash Goyal told ANI: "Today's main attraction was the legendary Bollywood actor Asrani who played the role of Narad Muni. The audience welcomed him on stage with whistle and clapping."
Ramlila ended today at Ravana and Kumbhkarna penance (Tapasya), Satya Bhusan Jain, Senior Vice President of Committee informed ANI.
Vijay Sampla, Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes told ANI that everyone should know of Lord Ram's stories, especially our youth.
South Superstar Prabhas will be burning the effigy of 'Raavan' at the famous Lav Kush Ramlila in Delhi.
Known for curating one of the most innovative 'Pandal' ideas, the committee has made Ayodhya's Ram Mandir-themed pandal at Red Fort lawns this year. Prabhas will be gracing the event on Vijayadashami which falls on October 5 this year.
Speaking to ANI, Arjun Kumar, head of Lav Kush Ramlila committee, expressed his excitement about this year's plans and said, "Since Prabhas is already playing the role of Lord Rama in the upcoming film Adipurush, who is better than him to set the evilness of Raavan on fire this Dussehra!"

Before we start - a big *FUCK YOU* to the story of giving us a "full length, uninterrupted flashback" pretty much from the start right up until the ending, very final twist (which you knew was going to come, because there has to be something at the end of the flashback).
The movie won't win any awards, probably (or, well, didn't I guess, since it came out 4 years ago), but it isn't as bad as the hero-happy critics claim it is (of course they'd be disappointed - this movie lacks the traditional star power in all aspects).
It's not perfect, of course - the first half drags, what with them focusing on trying to get two love stories set up (one in the traditional, meet/greet with song; the other, over the course of a single song); the court scenes can't decide if they're supposed to be serious (which I think they should've been) or funny (I mean, you've hired Manoj Joshi, Akhilendra Mishra, and Manoj Pahwa as the main actors for these scenes - and Joshi and Pahwa, at least, as much more of guys you usually bring around for some comic relief), and as a result, we're kinda left in limbo where a bunch of serious stuff is inter-cut by (probably intentional, but unnecessary) comedy - the scene with the paan, some of the 'objections,' etc. Plus, that fucking annoying Bollywood favorite of "start the movie at the ending and then tell essentially the entire story in flashback" - a completely pathetic way to tell pretty much any story, especially when you're giving away the ending (well, maybe not the final twist, but by that point, you're just so annoyed by the story-telling method that you know one more twist has to come, and there isn't many possibilities for that).
The story, though, goes pretty well once you get past the initial stagnation and get into the actual mystery. It maybe has some shades of Shutter Island/Vodka Diaries, but more, once you know the ending, it sort of feels like it got some inspiration from the pretty much known 2007 'skin flick' Red Swastik - not necessarily in the how/why, but in the basic premise of the story at least. And I can't complain about that, because even when I saw Red Swastik, in my mind (and whatever blog I had at that time), I'm pretty sure I said something to the effect of "if they focused more on the story and less on the 'skin show' (which was all the rage back then, because it was new), this could be a hell of a story."
It sorta feels the same way here - I know that they had to give some effort to introduce our characters and create a sort of relationship between them, but it somehow both dragged on way too long and didn't really feel very authentic.
But, towards the end, when those twists come - and when you're finally there, they come in quick, quick succession - they're pretty well done. Maybe not entirely out of the blue, but it's still well played. And then you think back and realize that aside from him, and her, you never see anyone actually interacting with them. Any of them. So kudos for whomever came up with the story and saw the execution through.
Them, deciding to use him and being completely heartless about it because he might have a condition - that's very heartless. Their celebrating at the end seems a bit in poor taste. Which, I mean, they concocted this whole scheme so maybe 'poor taste' isn't shocking for them, but still ... yikes. And her, thinking that after admitting everything, this man - who we've seen over and over again lose his temper, violently, at the drop of a hate - would just be like "it's all good" suggests that even while participating in everything, she was completely blind to everything happening around her. Driven blind by revenge, or whatever.
If she's decided she's going to use him, which she clearly did, then she needed to make a clean break after the fact. Going back - that was a mistake. Of course, using him in the first place to carry out your mission was also completely evil. Poor guy was living his life unassumingly and then you came and robbed him of it all.
His anger issues - trust me, I have anger issues and I understand, but ... yikes. How quickly he turns to physical violence is insane - of course, that's probably part of the reason she figured he was the right man for the job. She needed someone who would act first, ask questions later.
It's not an excellent movie - it has plenty of flaws: see above, and also most of the songs. But the acting is pretty good; the story (well, the crux of it, if you skim off the pointless stuff around the edges and the stupid 'everything in flashback' storytelling method) is well-done, albeit very slow, especially initially; and they do a pretty good job of trying to build up the suspense.

Veer-Zaara is a 2004 romantic drama film directed and co-produced by Yash Chopra with his son Aditya Chopra. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta as the eponymous star-crossed lovers; Veer is an Indian Air Force pilot and Zaara is a Pakistani woman hailing from a rich political family of Lahore. When Veer learns Zaara loves him, he quits his job to go to Pakistan, where he is imprisoned on false charges.
Years later, a young Pakistani lawyer played by Rani Mukerji finds Veer in prison and upon listening to his story, tries to free him. Veer-Zaara has Divya Dutta, Manoj Bajpayee, Akhilendra Mishra and Anupam Kher play supporting roles, with a special appearance from Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini.
Chopra wanted to make his return to cinema after seven years; he was dissatisfied with the scripts he received. Aditya then narrated a few scenes of a story he had written, which interested Chopra and prompted him to direct it. Chopra intended the film to be a tribute to Punjab; it was to be titled Yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum.
Set in India and Pakistan, principal photography took place in Punjab and various locations in Mumbai; parts of the film were also shot in Pakistan. The soundtrack album, based on old compositions by Madan Mohan with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, was the highest-selling album of the year in India.
The film was released on 12 November 2004 during the Diwali festival, Veer-Zaara earned over ₹976.4 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year in both India and overseas territories. It received positive reviews from critics, with praise directed to the story, dialogues, performances and sensitive portrayal of India-Pakistan relations. It was described by analysts as having themes pertaining to a shared Punjabi culture, secularism, and feminism, among others. The film won several awards in major Indian film award ceremonies. It won four awards at the Filmfare Awards, including Best Film and Best Story. At the 6th IIFA Awards, the film won 7 awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.
