Spanish government approves purchase of US$ 7.5 billion of new C-295 aircraft and Eurofighter jets
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/17/2023 - 16:39in Military
This week, the Spanish government approved contracts for defense investments that include 16 C-295 aircraft and 25 new Eurofighter jets.
The Ministry of Defense plans to allocate 7 billion euros (about US$ 7.5 billion) to these programs and other smaller contracts. The emphasis of investments is on the Spanish Air and Space Force.
The contract for 16 C-295 aircraft was approved, of which 6 are intended for maritime patrolling and 10 for maritime surveillance. The contract is valued at 2.034 billion euros and is expected to be finalized by the end of 2023. The acquisition aims to replace lost capacities with the withdrawal of the last P-3 Orion.
Tumblr media
With the treatment of this purchase, which involves the acquisition of 16 aircraft, Spain will be able to recover the military capabilities necessary to meet the country's objectives with NATO and to continue to guarantee the national commitments acquired within the Alliance.
A separate program involves the acquisition of 25 new Eurofighter jets to replace some F-18s at the Torrejón and Zaragoza bases. The program is estimated at 4.593 billion euros, between the years 2023 and 2035. The investment package also includes provisions for the 20 Eurofighter jets previously purchased in the Halcón I program. The spending limit has been authorized and additional approval is required.
Tumblr media
Currently, the C.15M (Eurofighter) aircraft fleet is about to start the decommissioning process, scheduled for about 2030, so it is necessary to replace it.
To this will be added an initial logistics package and ML2 maintenance level and two high-fidelity simulation systems including its infrastructure.
An investment of 207.4 million euros is planned for the acquisition of laser designator pods for air combat systems in the next four years. Another 95 million euros are allocated to operational support for the aircraft of the Ministry of Defense and 20 million euros are reserved for spare parts for F-5 fighters.
Companies such as Indra, SAES and Tecnobit are expected to be involved in the C-295 program. ITP Aero is expected to contribute engines to the Eurofighter program, along with other companies such as GMV and CESA.

Chopper Attack

JP release: 28th November 1997
NA release: 16th June 1998
PAL release: 1st September 1888
Developer: Seta
Publisher: Seta (JP), Midway (NA), GT (PAL)
N64 Magazine Score: 81%
Tumblr media
Chopper Attack (or Wild Choppers) is a game that’s clearly inspired by the [Terrain] Strike series of games. It’s a helicopter shoot-’em-up across eight missions. Each mission will give you certain enemies to destroy, although some you have to wipe out everything.
Tumblr media
The controls make use of the N64 controller well – the C-buttons move while the analogue stick aims (although there’s no option to disable inverted aiming). There is, however, one important feature of a helicopter missing: controlling altitude. You’ll automatically move up based on terrain. Enemies don’t have the same limitations, so you have to awkwardly try to aim at them – a big problem because the crosshair isn’t pointing at where you’ll fire.
Tumblr media
Enemies range from other aircraft to tanks, with soldiers also trying to take potshots at you. One really frustrating enemy is a giant Rambo-like man that grabs of your helicopter, messing your controls and missiles up. On top of your shield, you also need to keep an eye on your fuel – take too long to finish a mission and you’ll fail.
You also have an assortment of weapons to choose from. Your performance in one level will affect how much money you can spend on weapons on the next. Those range to ground or air missiles, to other non-homing bombs and cluster missiles.
Tumblr media
The missions rarely set themselves apart and the graphics are just ugly, coming across very poor for an N64 game. It’s all really muddy, blurry textures and levels are brown or grey. The story barely exists, even though the game treats the briefings in a very serious manner. You shoot one group of enemies and then a second group of enemies. The last mission is only available if you play on hard.
Tumblr media
Like Aero Fighters Assault, aliens are suddenly involved, so your helicopter is sent to the moon on its own to save humanity. The moon doesn’t play or look any differently, and the alien ships are just random geometry.
Chopper Attack is a game where you can have a bit of fun with the gameplay, but only in short blasts as he game has no variety.
Chopper Attack isn’t great to look at. Its basic design if formulaic and predictable, and it’s hardly the most challenging game on the N64. And yet, somehow, its constituent ingredients mix and conspire to make it greater than the sum of its parts.
- James Price, N64 Magazine #20
Remake or remaster?
Just a standard emulated re-release is fine.
Official ways to get the game.
There is no official way to get Chopper Attack

General Gameplay
The game would play similar to the mainline series games. Roxas, Axel, and Xion are all fully playable during battle. You can switch the character you are currently playing as by pressing either the right or left triggers on your controller. Axel is a high risk high reward character with destructive and flashy attacks that can leave him open if used recklessly. As opposed to using magic, Axel can use special moves through the use of the Limit menu that stands in place of the magic menu. Limits work as they do in KH2 Final Mix’s Limit Form, They are powerful weapon attacks that require MP to use. Axel will learn new limits throughout the game, ranging from a fiery strike raid that can momentarily hold foes in place with continuous strikes, to a move that traps nearby foes in a ring of fire, leaving them to deal with Axel. When Axel’s situation gauge fills up after landing hits he is able to use his Blazing Blitz mode. While in this mode his keyblade switches to his chakrams for his combos. The fire damage from his attacks also becomes stronger. Xion is a swift hit and runner who can dart around the battlefield in a flash of light. Due to the increased mobility, Xion does not have distance closing attacks, instead preferring to assault the enemy from afar with light based projectiles. For her magic, Xion utilizes the classic spells from KH1, including spells like Aero and Stop. The basic spells such as fire and thunder also behave as they did in KH1. When Xion’s situation gauge fills up she gains access to her Light’s Fury form. While in this form Xion’s attacks become stronger and her dodges have reduced end lag. She also gains temporary armor that does not reduce her HP when hit. If the armor is depleted, the form ends, and vice versa. Roxas is a balanced fighter with plenty of power and speed to destroy the opposition. For his magic he harnesses the spells used in kh2, including magic like reflect and magnet. The basic magic like fire and thunder also behave like they did in KH2. When Roxas’s situation gauge fills he is able to use Dual Stance form. This form works near identically to the Dual form in KH3, with the increased speed and combos. He also gains more light based attacks. At the start of the game each character has one Spell/Limit and will gain a new one at the end of each world. At the start, both Roxas and Xion have access to the Fire Spell. With Axel having the Limit “Flame Wheel”. In this limit he throws one of his chakrams at the targeted enemy, and if the command is quickly repeated he will toss the other chakram as a follow up. Each character has their own armor slots and accessories slots that they can equip said items to. Certain special items known as Trinity items can be equipped to the Trinity slot, these items affect all three characters. Each character also has their own ability tab with abilities exclusive to them that they gain through level up or other means. There are also shared abilities that when activated will give the described effect to all characters. When a character gains ability points (ap), instead of that ap only being used on that character, it is thrown into a metaphorical AP pot, a reserve of all the AP obtained by all characters that can be used on any character's abilities as well as shared abilities. With some exceptions, entering a new world for the first time is preceded by a mini game that shows RAX traveling between worlds through the dark corridors. It is similar in concept to the main gameplay of Melody of Memory with all three characters auto running through to their objective. Gameplay-wise it’s similar to the sections in kh3 where you have to fight enemies on rails. You press X to attack, Square to block, circle to jump, left trigger to switch to the left character and right trigger to switch to the right character.

The recently unveiled Bugatti Bolide is an extreme hypercar concept built for track domination. It combines an incredible weight-to-power ratio with radical aerodynamics for unbelievable performance. This in-depth guide provides the full specifications on Bugatti’s Bolide concept. We’ll cover all the details of this outrageous track-only machine, from its insane powerplant to its unique design capabilities. Read on for the complete technical breakdown of the breathtaking Bugatti Bolide! Overview of the Bugatti Bolide The Bolide concept premiered in 2020 as Bugatti’s most extreme track car yet. While not road legal, it shows the true potential of Bugatti’s automotive engineering at the limits. Key facts about the Bolide: Mid-engine track-only hypercar concept 1,825 horsepower from 8.0L W16 engine 0-249 mph (0-400 km/h) in under 20 seconds Top speed of well over 310 mph Extremely lightweight 1,240 kg (2,733 lbs) dry weight Radical aerodynamics produce over 1,800 kg (4,000 lbs) of downforce The Bolide embodies the pinnacle of Bugatti’s design and engineering capabilities with its outrageous power-to-weight ratio. Let’s look under the skin at what makes this beast so capable. Bugatti Bolide Powertrain Specs The Bolide’s powertrain specs are simply incredible: Engine 8.0L quad-turbocharged W16 engine 1,825 horsepower @ 7,400 RPM 1,364 lb-ft torque @ 2,000 to 7,000 RPM 68 PS per liter specific output 3.2 second 0-186 mph (0-300 km/h) time Transmission 7-speed dual-clutch automatic All-wheel-drive Chassis and Weight Carbon fiber monocoque chassis 1,240 kg (2,733 lbs) dry weight 1,340 kg (2,954 lbs) wet weight with fluids With a power-to-weight ratio of 1.4 PS per kg, the Bolide delivers extreme acceleration unmatched by any road car. The four turbochargers enable monstrous mid-range torque while still revving to 7,700 RPM. This is the most powerful production-based Bugatti engine ever designed, evolved from the Chiron’s drivetrain. The advanced materials and design shed weight while increasing downforce and handling limits. Bugatti Bolide Aerodynamics and Design The Bolide concept pushes Bugatti’s signature aerodynamics to unfathomable levels: 1,800 kg (4,000 lbs) of downforce at 249 mph x-shaped front diffuser for increased underbody downforce Advanced rear diffuser and wing generate over 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs) rear downforce Dual air curtain intakes feed air to 8 tailpipe exits Overall height of just 995mm (3.2ft) LMP-inspired central fin increases stability at speed The Bolide’s design philosophy was simple: go insanely fast around a track, without compromise. The extreme aero generates unbelievable grip and traction at speed. Advanced materials like 3D printed titanium keep weight impossibly low. The Bolide even skips a traditional windshield for an aero-optimized glass panel and helmet system. This radical track concept shows what the Bugatti team can create when not limited by road regulations. Inside the Cockpit of the Bugatti Bolide The interior of the Bolide is all business: Fixed carbon shell seat molded to the driver OMP racing harness in place of seatbelts Minimalist titanium instrument panel Square racing steering wheel with display Simple air vents replace climate control Lifting doors allow entry into the sparse cabin All unnecessary creature comforts are ripped out to reduce weight. Controls are focused only on critical racing functions. A passenger seat is omitted, befitting the Bolide’s solo racing purpose. The spartan interior provides a Stealth fighter-like environment for the privileged pilot. Aero Fighters (SNES)
Tumblr media
Aero Fighters was developed by Video Systems and published for the SNES by Mc O'River in 1993. It's a port of the arcade top-down shooter, wherein one or two players can select a pilot from four different parts of the globe, all of whom have different power-ups and screen clearing bomb attacks. The rest of the game is a pretty stand, straight forward shoot'em up spanning seven stages. It's a pretty short game, and kind of easy by most shoot 'em up standards, especially now that we live in the era of bullet hell games. If you've conquered Enter the Gungeon, you should have no problem with this, although continues are limited, so don't get too careless. The graphics are good, the frame rate is decent for the SNES (which notoriously has slow down issues with fast-paced shooters), and I like how well-balanced the different pilot abilities are. It's a shame there's not more of a story to make the game more compelling, but overall Aero Fighters is a pretty decent game.

United Kingdom, Japan and Italy sign treaty for the Global Air Combat Program (GCAP)
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 12/14/2023 - 08:39am Military
The United Kingdom, Italy and Japan have signed an international treaty for a Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) that aims to develop an innovative stealth fighter with supersonic capability and equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
The treaty marks a key stage of the historic Global Air Combat Program (GCAP) and the headquarters of the program will be based in Great Britain.
This combat aircraft, which is expected to fly to the skies by 2035, aims to take advantage of next-generation technologies and become one of the most advanced, interoperable, adaptable and connected fighters in the world in service worldwide. The program is expected to create highly qualified jobs in the United Kingdom and partner countries over the next decade and beyond.
The supersonic stealth jet will feature a powerful radar that can provide 10,000 times more data than current systems, providing an advantage in victory in battles.
Tumblr media
In the United Kingdom, the effort is being led by BAE Systems, in close partnership with Rolls-Royce, Leonardo UK and MBDA UK – as well as hundreds of supply chain companies across the country. Together, they are working closely with leading companies in Japan (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric Corp, IHI Corp, Avio Aero) and Italy (Leonardo) to progress in the design and development of this aircraft.
Despite the current limitation to the three countries, there is speculation about Saudi Arabia's accession in the future, although the Japanese government allegedly opposes the candidacy of the Gulf monarchy. GCAP is among several sixth-generation fighter programs in the West. In Europe, the Future Combat Aircraft System (FCAS) effort, involving France, Germany, Spain and potential newcomers such as Sweden, aims to select a fighter project by 2025. The GCAP partnership seems to be ahead of the FCAS, with the United States planning to grant a project for its Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter by next year.
The treaty confirmed that the United Kingdom will host the joint headquarters of the GCAP government, supporting hundreds of jobs in the United Kingdom and working with Japanese and Italian colleagues. The first CEO will come from Japan. The HQ will be responsible for providing vital military capacity, strengthening the industrial air combat capacity of each country and obtaining a good cost-benefit ratio.
Tumblr media
Supporting the Prime Minister's priority of growing the economy, there are already about 3,000 people in the main combat air centers throughout the United Kingdom, including the southwest and northwest of England and Edinburgh, with almost 600 contracted organizations across the country, including SMEs and academic institutions.
In air combat, the UK Ministry of Defense has spent £2 billion in the UK over the past 5 years on technology, creating skills and capabilities - with an additional £600 million from the industry - to ensure that the UK is ready to boost this program.
A crucial program for the future of stability in the Euro-Atlantic, the Indo-Pacific and broader global security, GCAP is a strong example of the UK's global leadership in developing the next-generation military capacity to deter and defeat threats to the UK and our allies.
It is another demonstration of our commitment to Indo-Pacific security, after the deployment of the Royal Navy's Carrier Strike Group in 2021, with a new deployment coming in 2025, as well as the Navy maintaining a persistent presence in the region through HMS Spey and HMSTamar.
Tumblr media
Separately, a new joint business construction will be based in the United Kingdom, with a significant global presence. This industrial counterpart of the government organization will oversee the support and timely delivery of the program, including the date of entry into service of the combat aircraft in 2035 - known as Tempest in the United Kingdom. The first leader of joint business construction will be from Italy.
This collaborative approach is indicative of the innovative international program.
GCAP will attract investments in research and development in digital design and advanced manufacturing processes, providing opportunities for our next generation of highly qualified engineers and technicians.
