Before the story ends, we get one last look at the Sinister Six, none of whom seem too happy. I’ve gotta give Doc Ock some credit for at least trying to think of a new strategy already; he’s a determined man, he is. Though maybe he shouldn’t be discussing this with a cop right there.
(Also, yeah, I skipped most of the stuff with Jameson here; there wasn’t much to say about it, save for that one part where he tries talking to a spider.)

Meanwhile- yeah, we’re getting a meet-up between Spider-Man’s villains. So far we’ve got Doc Ock, Electro, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter, and I’m sure the other two will show up shortly. Electro doesn’t get why they’re bothering with this since Spider-Man has beaten all of them, but Kraven the Hunter points out that they’ve all gotten close to beating him one-on-one so their odds could be better with them working as a team. Doc Ock says he’s got a plan, but we don’t get to hear about any of that before we jump back to Peter, who finds someone that sets off his spider-sense, but he doesn’t have enough time to do anything about it before Flash Thompson accuses Peter of trying to steal his girl and- Slow down comic, what is even

So, how’d I feel about covering my first annual for these? I liked it. Granted, I think I would’ve liked it a little more had some things been left out (namely all the cameos that turned up for little to no reason), but overall I enjoyed it. It was interesting seeing the Sinister Six for the first time here, I just wasn’t expecting them to turn up so soon during these.
I’ll have to double-check what the next one on my list is, but whatever it is, I’m here for it.

Aunt May was on her way to see Betty Brant to talk with her about Peter, and then Electro and Sandman kidnapped them both and brought them- Oh, so this is where Aunt May met Doctor Octopus. I wasn’t prepared for that to happen this soon. (Believe it or not, that’s relevant for later. Oh believe me, we’ll get there.)

The gang’s all here with the arrival of Sandman and Vulture (the latter being the only villain here who predates Doc Ock), and good grief, so much green.
Anyway, so what’s the plan? They’re each going to attack Spider-Man on their own and wear him down little by little until he’s eventually too weak to take them on. Oh, I see, it’s sorta like video game logic. How do they decide the order they go in?
They draw cards.

I’m not kidding. I love it.

Hmm, not sure about exactly how uncanny he is, but I don’t doubt that he’s powerful.
I’m not gonna be posting all of these, obviously, but I gotta say it’s been interesting looking at all these pages about the foes Spider-Man has faced so far decades after certain things about them have become more common knowledge. (For example: Green Goblin’s identity is listed as unknown.)

Aunt May, please
Anyway, Betty and May are escorted back to the Parker house, where Peter’s waiting for them. Betty’s relieved that it’s all over while Aunt May is more upset that she missed Beverly Hillbillies and that Peter’s using funny slang than she is about, you know, being kidnapped and held hostage. I see it’s gonna be a while before we get to the time where Aunt May is more than just the frail and loopy old lady who cares about Peter. Looking forward to when that happens.

So after figuring out that Octavius can’t control the arms for his harness too well if someone, say, punches him, Spider-Man gives himself enough time to get away, but then falls into a trap and... and, uh... uh...
Tumblr media
Who- Who was gonna tell me that early years Octavius’ actual arms were on the more muscular side? What the hell am I supposed to do about this?!

Okay, context: Vulture threatens Spider-Man to remove his web-shooters or else he won’t ever know where to find Betty and Aunt May, so Spider-Man agrees. Vulture then tries to get him to slip and fall off the ledge, then tries to pull him off the building since Spider-Man can still climb buildings and stick to things without his webs. However, Spider-Man’s quick enough to untie himself and lasso Vulture’s foot before he can fall.
Yeehaw.

Spider-Man goes to his next destination and meets Sandman. He thinks it’ll be a quick fight, but then he get trapped inside an iron cell with him. Seems pretty bad for Spider-Man, right? So how does he defeat him?
Spider-Man finds out that the cell is air-tight and that Sandman’s losing his breath pretty fast in there compared to him.
Tumblr media
No, really.
I don’t think you thought this through, sir.

This doesn’t have much to do with anything, I just really want to hear this in J.K. Simmons’ voice so bad.
