Finished reading Pratchett's Eric (Discworld #9) today. I don't really understand why the Rincewind and wizard books are just less quality somehow.
I actually did really enjoy the first two books (The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic) and really also quite liked Rincewind, and I had looked forward to the following books with him in them (i.e., Sourcery and this one, Eric) when I found out that they were Rincewind books. They've been disappointing, though, and so was Equal Rites. The best thing about that one was Granny Weatherwax, but in all cases from Equal Rites onward the ending and climax of the books seem to just happen very quickly and don't actually feel like there's much pay-off; things sort of just happen and then it's the end.
Like in Equal Rites the main character at one point tries to do a thing when they get to the Hall and it cuts from the scene and then it turns out later nothing has happened and they simply end up working in the premises and no one even seems to notice it's them or whatever.
Anyway. I do realise that the first two books are apparently very different to the rest of the books that follow but the thing is, I liked them and thus continued reading the series for a reason. And actually I haven't been all that impressed more than I've been felt kind of let down by what feels like most of them.
