Had a very good time with my Potomac Valley Track Club team members at Penn Relays and brought home gold in our 4x100m relay category. Thanks SEPTA for getting me to Franklin Field safely.

Women’s Racing Suits in Early 20th Century
Women’s swimming suits for competition seem to have always been controversial. It was two brave Australian women who made the biggest impact on women’s swimming costumes; Annette Kellerman and Clare Dennis. Finding a balance between a fast swim suit and societal ‘standards’ seems to be the fence where competitive swimmers sat. In fact swimming was not considered feminine but a masculine…

M&S Olympics: Mario and Sonic!
these two seem to be the main events when it comes to the olympics, but their rivalry is all friendly, don’t worry
(click/tap for better quality, more rambling below)
Both Mario and Sonic mainly focus on athletic events, specifically the 100m, 4x100m relay, hurdles and the triple jump. Mario, however, is much more skilled in this last one than Sonic.
During the events, they put up the front of being friendly rivals and show off to eachother (Sonic more than Mario), but outside of these, they seem to be the best of friends. They always support/cheer for the other when they aren’t in the same events, and Mario seems to have accidentally adopted this younger hedgehog on the way (Sonic refuses to admit he sees a father figure in Mario). Aside from the athletic events previously mentioned: Sonic enjoys skateboarding
Mario enjoys the swimming events, badminton, and boxing

Today In History
Jesse Owens, legendary Olympic track star, was born in Oakville, Alabama, on this date September 12, 1913. An astonishingly gifted athlete who excelled in the 100m, 200m, long jump and relay, Owens’ track record speaks for itself.
In 1935, he managed to set three world records within the space of an hour at a meeting in Michigan. It remains a feat that has never been equalled.
His greatest moment, however, came a year later, in a politically charged environment. Owens travelled to Berlin to take part in the 1936 Olympics – an event overseen by Adolf Hitler, which the new German chancellor hoped would profile the supremacy of the Aryan ‘master race’.
It wasn’t to be: the African-American Owens stole the show. He won the 100m in 10.30 seconds, the 200m in 20.70 seconds, and then the long jump, with an impressive leap of 8.06 metres – apparently after getting some advice about his run-up from a German competitor, Luz Long. His fourth gold came in the 4x100m relay, in which Owens formed a key part of the team that set a new world record of 39.80 seconds.

Well, the United States Track and Field Association Masters Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina are over. It was a very nice weekend to reacquaint with folks I have not seen in decades or a few years. I made some new acquaintances and surround myself with champions for fun, times, advice, and records. Thanks for the moments, USATF, Delta Airlines, Marriott Hotels, City of Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, and Potomac Valley Track Club. I love track and field. I did the 100m dash, 4x800m relay, Long Jump, 200m dash, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay. Part One

It is a much-deserved honour, but so frustrating that there are still athletes doping and that Aaron, Jerome, Brendon and André could not be celebrated as Olympic Vice-Champions in Tokyo.
But at least they were on the podium; my heart always goes out to the athletes who are “upgraded” to Olympic Bronze after disqualification. They never got their moment to shine on the biggest Sports stage of the World...

Bonus Day
So, we spent a cold and slightly rainy afternoon down on the seacoast at the Meet of Champions. Now, cold and slightly rainy could describe most of our season, and I’m pretty sure everyone knows it. A handful of meet officials and other coaches asked if we’d brought the bad weather with us, and there were jokes all day about how our athletes were going to do well because they were used to these conditions.
And, oh man, did they do well!
Everyone exceeded their seedings, nearly everyone PRed in their individual events, our girls 4x100m also team ran a huge PR, some of of my sprinter girls earned medals and spots at New Englands, and- most exciting thing about the day- two of those medals were gold! It’s my first time coaching a state champion, and, I have to say that it’s really, really cool.
Other fun stuff: my own former high school coach proudly watching me coach those amazing sprinters of mine, my cousin’s relay team also making New England’s, her coach and I giving each other the biggest smiles because we’re both having such good days.
Love it when it’s a long season like this! It’s such a privilege.
