In the 1990s Welsh musician Richey Edwards of the Manic Street Preachers carved '4REAL' into his arm in an extreme act of self-harm to prove the band's authenticity. The iconic photograph of his injuries and the subsequent media frenzy contributed to the band's growing fame and transformed Richey's life.

#revisited this album today and for the most part still holds up pretty well #this song in particular is definitely more resonant today than it was 30 years ago #damn #i mean it definitely sounds like a product of its time but the edge the lyrics and specially the political content #they don't do it like this srsly the sound too #even if there's obviously bands nowadays that sound as hard they don't have this dirty production sound #even if they try to imitate it there's still something polished abt it most likely the better machines they use nowadays #4st7lb also goes super hard too but that one deserves its own post and a massive tw #probably the darkest song of the whole album alongside yes in an album that it's pretty grim as a concept #and as per the mindset of the lyricist #rip richey #manic street preachers #the holy bible #90s #Spotify
