Day 16 - Something that needs an overhaul

So, this is something that would need an overhaul if Disney ever decided to do a reboot of the series (which I do not hope because reboots are always dump these days, not only storywise but also animation wise!!!), they would have to spend a bit more time on a proper characterisation of Will.

These two girls have nothing in common despite their red hair and being the keeper of the heart. 

While comic!Will was shy and insecure, show!Will was confident and bossy. While show!Will was outgoing and believing in her leader position, comic!Will was introverted and sturggeled with the leading position. While show!Will acts headless and stubborn, comic!Will panics and trys to think of what might be the best in the situation. While comic!Will fought with her mother because she was afraid not to be loved and being replaceable, show!Will fought with her mother for obvious teen reasons. While show!Will and her mom have a typical and rather independent parent-child relationship, comic!Will and Susan have more of a deep connection – you can really see the love on both sides even though they have arguments. The relationship of them in the show reminds me more of the one, many of my friends have/had with their parents – very lose, while in the comics the relationship was portrayed as warmer (like the one I know from my home). While comic!Will has got a complex character that even deals with anxiety, show!Will is the American stereotype girl most of the watchers can identify with – which leads to a complete loss of the original character. 

Wham. Yes, I get salty on this topic because Will is (along with Hay Lin) my favourite character in the comics while in the show… I hate her.

 Day 20 - Something you’d always come back to

The show

Okay, yes, I am outing myself now as a member of team show. Yes, it messed up quite a bit but what I love overall is Phobos the storytelling. The way the show develops and deals with the topic is in my opinion so much more exiting than the comic storyline. There is a thread and a leitmotif on which the story is build on. To me, everything is way more coherent in the show than in the comics. I also love the design (especially of Meridian) and they put so much more effort in worldbuilding and Phobos the characters while also showing their depth of their  psyche and mentality. It is always thrilling to watch and it’s basically like an anime – you are never to old for it and it never gets boring. Thank you, Disney, for developing the story of w.i.t.c.h. that way.

Day 4: favourite pairing/ship

Cornelia & Caleb

Okay, with this I mean show version only. They were one of the first couples, that not annoyed me. I needed a long time to endure romantic relationships and couples kissing in TV but that's another story. Both weren't this lovey-dovey perfect dream couple, there was tension as much as passion. Like, in the beginning it was already very obvious that they were into each other, even though neither of them did admit it. It took a very long time for both to accept their feelings and I think it had a lot to do with insecurity - Cornelia was a guardian who had to protect earth and was about to save Elyon and Meridian, while Caleb was the leader of the rebellion. No time for love in that kind of situation. There was already big pressure on both of them because of this. Maybe they also did not allow themselves to live their romantic feelings - or even beeing afraid that the other person may be more focused on the mission and therefore seeing a relationship impossible by that time. So, we got a lot of struggle and a lot eye porn contact in s1, till they finally came to the point: 'I love you, it's okay, we get our mission anyway.' 

In s2 they were finally a couple but no easy one. First up they lived in different worlds, which made things difficult. Secondly, both were stubborn and prissy af. They are a kind of couple that turns a spark in a wildfire in less than 5 seconds. Again, I think it has to do with insecurity with both feeling kinda responsible that the relationship isn't always harmonic (Cornelia thinking she should maybe move to Meridian but doesn't want to give up her earth live, Caleb the other way round). However this kinda passionate disputations always come to a good end (if they were older and the show wasn't for kids, it would be the typical scenery in which the argument ends in hot sex lmao). So okay, that was what the relationship makes so catchy for me. Of course they can relay on each other (even when they had an argument before) and cared for each other and showed jealousy in some cases - but thats standard in most relationships. 

What I like about them is the fire in the relationship, that already caught me as a child when there was nothing more embarassing than kisses. But when those 2 made out I was always like YES.

 Day 13 - Something heartwarming

Okay, I go with a super unpopular opinion here but I give this point to Blunk who is always supper supportive of the guardians. I mean, sure he causes some trouble too (especially in s1) but he is always there to help the girls – while actually doesn’t know if they actually like him or not. I remember him beeing so HAPPY when Caleb referred to him as a friend in 01.24. Also the way he spies for Will in Q is for Quarry just shows again what kind of supportive friend he is as he asks for nothing in reward. Give him more love T_T

Day 12 - Something that made you cry

Ehm, THIS SCENE?!

I know from own experience how it is to lose a pet – a friend, a figure in life you trusted and whom you could tell all your thoughts and secrets. Someone who understands you and supports you way better than your parents or friends ever will be able too.

This scene was shocking and I always have to cry when I read it because I really KNOW how this loss feels like.

Day 9 - Favorite guardian uniform 

As from our 5 w.i.t.c.h., I totally go with Cornelia’s outfit. It is very elegant and ladylike (fitting Corny of course) and idk I simply like the whole shape. Especially making the skirt extra long is an eye catch. Tbh, I really like both versions. Yes, the comic one is a bit more revealing but the other one works pretty fine in the show too and looks still very elegant imo.

But I also want to mention c.h.y.k.n.’s fire guardian’s outfit here. I just think Halinor’s outfit is so pretty. In fact, I prefer the show version here. The top is so beautiful – actually it’s my favourite top of the entire guardian outfits. At first I actually thought, the trousers would be more of pomp trousers as they actually were lol. However the combi is very cool.

And last but not least – yes I know this is not canon but a fanart, but I LOVE this guardian outfit for Elyon like so much. It’s just so pretty and I’d so wear it too xD Like, it’s elegant like Cornelia’s but also a bit cute and sexy at the same time? I LOVE this one. Not canon – but actually my favourite of all outfits! <3

 Day 15 - Something that needs a quick fix

Something that always annoyed me a lot was that the girls all have wings but only Hay Lin was able to fly until New Power I the comics. Like, WHY do they have wings if they can’t use them? That.makes.no.sense.

So, it kinda already got fixed in the show – and I am thankful to it. Because it is necessary for a guardian to fly – the show shows us why in every episode. 

And I mean it makes sense for magical girls, who got fkn wings, to fly. So…LET THEM FLY IN THE COMICS TOO OR CUT OF THAT STUPID USELESS WINGS

Day 10 - Favorite world/planet

Ehhrm, Meridian obviously? And with Meridian I mean the stylish one designed by Phobos.

The design was something that caught me immediately. It’s so dark and dreamy. Really has this kind of vampire aesthetic, that I cant really name. Of course Elyon’s version is pretty too but ..idk this one’s got style.

The palace garden is also super aesthetic. It might looks sunny but it still got this special kind of Phobos-energy. 

Tbh, I like the whole design. We get so much to see of it in the show. It’s also nice how the environment is different in the different regions. We got forest, we got swamp, kind of waste etc.

This one looks pretty fantasy like too. Coold be some region in Middle Earth too.

Oh, and let’s not forget all the nice creatures. For example, we got this cute bird-horse things called Hoogongs (which the Avatar: the last airbender cartoon obvsly stole xD).

Day 5: favourite friendship

Cornelia & Elyon

What I really like about the show - is that their relationship is like SO close. In the comics, Cornelia said that she went in the same class with Elyon for 3 years but was never at her home. So, they don’t were close enough to hang out privately. Cornelia also didn’t seem that desperate and shocked when Elyon disappeared in the comics. Elyon however still seems to get along with Cornelia the best amongst the guardians though. Maybe it’s because they have the same age and went to the same class. But deep friendship looks different.. So the friendship didn’t seem that close in the comics. At least not from beginning on. But we still have the show canon and that is a whole new ballgame:  

In the series it’s said that Cornelia and Elyon knew each other “their whole life”. Cornelia even knew the Hospital Elyon was supposed to be born in. Elyon later states that she and Cornelia had been lab partners since the 4th grade. You see on both sides, that beeing parted is hard for both. Elyon might be angry with the guardians, for not telling her who she was, but on the other hand she misses her best friend many times. She is often talking about Cornelia or remembering something her best friend had said in a specific situation. On the other hand, Cornelia is the most desperate of the guardians, when it comes to safe Elyon. She brought herself in danger several times just to talk to Elyon. It’s very clear, that they know each other very well and even though they were on different sides, their friendship did not break. In contrary, they still cared for each other, which made the situation for both even harder. Not to forget that Cornelia could sense, that Elyon was in danger in 01.26. She however statet too, that she always was able to do that, since they were children. You can’t sense this with everybody. You have to have a very close and deep bond to sense the other’s feelings. This friendship is really wonderful.                                                 

On the whole, if you have a friendship like Elyon and Cornelia have, you are a really lucky person.

Day 17 - Something that needs to be revisited

 The Mage x Nerissa

Okay, confusion alert:

This person(s) really confuse me. We get to know the Mage in season one episode 5 in which she reveals the mysterious writing Hay Lin and Will found. She helped the guardians later on to understand some stuff too. In 01.11 she appears in a kind of flashback when Yan Lin tells the girls how the Star of Threbe was made. As we get to know in season 2, Nerissa took over the Mage’s identity prior to season 1 - and therefor the guardians never got to know the real Mage and Nerissa helped them in disguise. In “O is for Obedience” Julien tells Caleb that Nerissa was his, Caleb’s, mother and now I get confused:

Okay, Nerissa took over the Mage’s form (and not only her’s as we know, since she was disguised as Tril too). Everything alright, I get this. BUT what does that mean for Nerissa x Julien = Caleb. He tells Caleb that the Mage was dead for 18 years now but that he fell in love with her 17 years ago (lol). Caleb is like wtf is the Mage my mom then? And Julien: “Hell no, numbers don’t lie and neither does Nerissa”. So, let me resume this: Nerissa took over the identity of the Mage, Julien fell in love with her and Caleb was born. BUT what does “Numbers don’t lie, neither does Nerissa” mean - does it mean that a) she said the truth 20 minutes ago when hinting she killed the Mage, or b.) does it mean, she did not lie to Julien 17 years ago when she was his loverin form of the Mage and was like: “You know honey, actually I am not the Mage but an evil ex-guardian”. So did Julien KNOW that the Mage was Nerissa the whole time? And simply did not tell anyone because he loved her? Or was it just that she revealed herself in the same episode and not 17 years ago. Can someone explain that, PLEASE.

And also lol “numbers don’t lie” - they do in the w.i.t.c.h. universe. Cuz, if the veil was set 18 years ago, when Phobos came to power - it would make Elyon at least 17 too - I mean where is the sense? I don’t say the comics do it better at this point but holy sh*t - explain this weird timeline and this weird relationship to me.

But the most important question is: How could the Mage (or Nerissa in her body), being beautiful and young when Caleb was born and then become an old, hairless hag in like only 17 years. Since we know that the Mage was a powerful being that lived like super long and always looked pretty it makes zero sense for her to suddenly age. Yes, it could be because she wasn’t the real Mage but Nerissa in disguise but then..then someone had to notice “Hmmm weird that this lady that was always YOUNG suddenly gets old.” Please, someone had to notice that fact! ...Someone!

 Day 18 - Something that needs more love from the fandom

Hello! The girl with the unpopular opinions is back! Okay, my point goes to….Show!Caleb.

Because I’m a bitch for w.i.t.c.h., I scrolled through most of the 30days of WITCHversary posts and found out, that a lot of you people dislike him because he easily gets annoyed by the girls while he is searching for a girl to succeed the throne.

Ehm, where is the problem? Let’s ask a question: Who is Caleb? He is the rebel leader, who fights for the people of Meridian to be free from Phobos. He had risked his life several times before he even met the girls to reach this goal. In this post, I said that it was pretty unrealistic, that he was only 15 because he seems to be so much older. And why does he seem older? Because he has to be. In comparison to other guys in the show (for example Matt or Martin who have about the same age as Caleb) he is an adult. Unlike other teens you can’t chill and hang out after skateboarding in Meridian. You have to fight for your life everyday. And now imagine this young man, who has gone through a lot of shit (his world dying out, his father disappeared and most likely thought to be dead, not enough food etc. etc. etc.) who is confronted with five pubescent girls who have no idea what a life like his is like and who are still the last hope for his people. The guardians have got their typical teen problems which are luxury problems to people like Caleb. I think he basically can not understand how headless these girls act at times for basically nothing. And for someone who has to deal with so many problems like Caleb, he treats the girl pretty nice I guess. We also have to remember, that he is unfamiliar with earth life and has to learn how things work from the very beginning. Yes, he is annoyed sometimes by the girls and expresses that with “Ugh girls” – but do you think he knows other girls like them in Meridian? No! And why? Because the girls who are part of the rebels are grown up women – or at least act like those. They have the same problems and the same environment like him. You can’t compare a meridian rebel girl to a Heatherfield teen girl. And for the fact, that those little girls take things too easy at times and care more about their hairstyle than getting the mission done, he is still very nice to them. I mean, he could like yell at them for knowing nothing and getting their easy business done – but he does not. Nope, he even listens to their problems too and that says a lot about his character. I think he is a pretty caring man. I mean, he is the leader of the rebels and has to get sure, that everyone is as alright as possible and it’s obvious that he also cares for the guardians – and not only Cornelia but all girls. Then we also have his little mate Blunk whom he also cares for (even though he doesn’t admit it at first). He is like such a great character even though he would have all right in the world to be depressed and cruel if we consider what he has to go through everyday. On the other side he also loves Cornelia and manages it to live in a relationship with her and she is by far not an easy women xD. And in the end: He is still a guy and the girls are still girls - not everythign goes smooth all day between those two genders.. Oh, and btw I never considered him to be like super annoyed by the girls? It was like the normal amount of a boy beeing annoyed by a group of young girls xD

So, give this hottie more LOVE. <3

Day 8 - Favorite extra/special

The year before

Idk, I really like all these sidestorys a lot? Especially the one from Will and Irma give us so much insight in their characters and I really like that. Funny thing was also the last panel from Cornelia’s story, in which Cornelia asks to which room the door, she sleepwalked to, leaded. And Elyon replied: “To the most boring room in the house – the basement.” Haha, insider of the first arc (or ppl like me who reread it these days) of course get the pun.

Day 2: Favourite Villain

Phobos and Cedric

Actually I’m more into guys with dark hair but omg I fell in love with these two when I was 11 (but now that i think of it I kinda have my thing with long blonde hair as well),especially with Cedric by that time, while today I totally go with Phobos. However I chose both of them here because I really love their dynamic. On the one hand they seem very equal in competence as well as in intellect, but on the other hand Phobos is clearly the boss and I’d really like to know how they met. It’s not only the master-servant thing that connects them but also a really weird friendship and come on, if you say Phobos, you gotta say Cedric too.

I could go on fangirling here but I don’t since nobody cares I think. (Maybe I’ll do a master post sometime.. I mean if this sideblog gets any attention but it doesn’t really look like it lol)

Day 1: Favourite Guardian

As a child I was actually always torn between Hay Lin and Cornelia. However Hay Lin was the one I could identify with the most. On the outside I might have the look of Cornelia but at heart I am a little Hay Lin. In school I was always the weird art girl who had rather strange hobbies and interests. However unlike me Hay Lin is so super optimistic and cheering. I really love that cute little bubble.

 Day 11 - Something awesome

Okay, a big PRAISE to the German dub on this one. As some of my followers, who read all my extra long tags, already know – yes, I’m from Germany and therefore watched W.i.t.c.h. in German. And this is actually the good thing about it – non-english speaking countries (that have enough money to spend on film industry) put a LOT effort in dubbing movies and tv shows. Germany is one of those countries. As far as I know the two European countries whose film/movie dubs are know as the best are Italy and Germany and it SHOWS.

Because I am a language nerd, I often do switch languages on my DVDs for fun and tbh when it comes to the guardian’s voices in the English dub of W.i.t.c.h. I was like SO disappointed? Like, a lot of changes (Taranee speaking with Cornelia’s voice at times etc.) and also pretty lame acting? I remember Taranee having an eel in her shirt in episode 3 and the English voice actress did..not deliver at all? While Marie-Luise Schramm, who voices Taranee in the German dub, is like F*CK THERE IS SOMETHING HELP ME AHHHHHH. But actually she is like that the whole time, she has got sm Taranee spirit it’s awesome. Also, Blunk’s German voice was so funny and CUTE while the english one was simply..funny? But idk the german voice feels sm more in character same with Caleb who sounds like a 12 years old in the English sub xD. So enough bitching about the English sub who has it’s good things too (like phobos and Cedric are awsome in there!)

So, long story short – I love the German dub sm! (I also love some other dubs and maybe will do a post about other good dubs too at some point). So while I will save our two evil bad boys for a later day, I’m gonna list up the 5 guardians with their voice actresses now and tell you why they are so good (and I bet now everyone stops reading lol.)

Will: Magdalena Turba

Okay, let’s start with a voice I am nearly always annoyed of because I first noticed her as Will and she therefore stays Will to me. As I said before, I am by far no fan of show!Will and I think things would have been better if Will had a cuter voice in the German dub? But on the other hand Magdalena’s voice is very fitting: she is confident and strong and also catches Will’s bossy moments very well.

Memorable roles: She is also the German voice actress of Amanda Seyfried and I still connect my childhood with Magdalena because she voiced Cera in the A Land Before Time movies (BEST CHILDHOOD MOVIES EVER FIGHT ME).

Irma: Esra Vural

She was sm Irma it is not even healthy anymore xD I once read an interview with Esra in which she said how much she enjoyed voicing Irma and you really FEEL that when you hear her. She got all the emotions so right as if she really was the character herself.

Memorable roles: Another very Irma-like character she voices was Clawdeen Wolf from MH. She is also the German voice actress of Ashley Tisdale. (And now compare a Sharpay Evans to Irma Lair – NO similarities and still she got both characters on point!).

Taranee: Marie-Luise Schramm

Oh, my baby! She makes Taranee such a cute sweetheart. She really catches Taranee’s nervous personality in all the little scenes so well. I think I am more a fan of her acting frightened than the brainy part because the first one makes Taranee sm human if that makes sense? She has got her flaws and still keeps on fighting. And Marie-Luise catches those emotions very well imo.

Memorable roles: Toph Bei Fong from Avatar (also MY GIRL) but she does sm stuff

Cornelia: Anna Predleus

Now, while Cornelia has got a mature voice in almost EVERY dub, the German dub was like: Hell no? She’s the shopping girl? She’s blonde? She needs a high voice. But..it works? Like people complain that Cornelia was too much of a bitch in the show, agreed but she still has got a brain and is still very mature and smart? I mean being a shopping girl doesn’t automatically make you dump. I guess they made Cornelia that way in the show because she was pretty unlikeable in the comics – especially in the first issues. So in the show she might have been bitchy but at least she still was FUN lol. So that is why I like Anna’s voice as Cornelia, yes it is no deep voice but it still fits the character in a different way. I also really liked her acting when it came to Elyon’s situation.

Memorable roles: Especially from my childhood: Gemini Stone from Sabrina – The animated series and Gina Lash from Angela Anaconda xD

Hay Lin: Carmen Katt

Now, she is the only one which I only connect with Hay Lin. Her voice was pretty high and “airy” but still might seem more mature than in other dubs. She really got the weird character of Hay Lin very well and I really like how she feld inside the character if that makes sense? Like, Hay Lin always got that little side-kick quotes and Carmen wasn’t simply reading them out but putting a lot Hay Lin spirit and it - is a bit like in Irma’s case – she really WAS Hay Lin. Like, she was the whole person, all emotions all states Hay Lin went through were on point. Be it her being very enthusiastic about being a guardian, or doing her art stuff or being hopeless in s2 when Yan Lin becomes brainwashed by Nerissa. I love her sm, my little baby girl. (Yes, I LOVE HAY LIN WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT).

Memorable roles: I just looked her up and was like WTF she voiced Cleo de Nile (fhjdjsjlskl) from MH and RIAS GREMORY IN HIGHSCHOOL DXD  xD  and also Raven Queen in Ever After High. Lol, this women has got talent.

 And last but not least I want to talk about ELYON

Elyon: Julia Meynen

Omg, she was SO on POINT. I know, I said that before but Julia as Elyon OMG. I really LOVE how she got the emotions of the lost and angry Elyon in episode 01.14 Parent’s Night. Like, she can go from super friendly and cutesy to absolute terrifying mad like she is in 01.23 when confronting the guardians. She plays Elyon from the nice bf of Cornelia to the brainwashed princess and Julia played is so believable. Again, I use the word emotions here a lot, but Julia’s job as Elyon really gives me goose bumps.

Memorable roles: As for my childhood I’d put here Honoka Yukishiro from Pretty Cure and Sunburst from Barbie: Magic of the Rainbow and also Mami Tomoe from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Of course ALL voice actors if W.i.t.c.h. are GREAT and I will come back to this topic on day 19 xD

 Day 14 - Something that irked you

Wow, okay another SUPER unpopular opinion! And now everyone will HATE me. But you asked, and I answer.

I totally hated this whole love thing between Cedric and Orube in the comics and Orube in general. And tbh, I can’t really say why.

As a character, I never liked Orube. She is a very strong character I guess and also very convinced of herself (which is good but it kinda annoys me??). Furthermore I also disliked her design (and also wtf why does she look sm like Theresa Cook?? Why? xD). and I just remember seeing her the first time when I was 11 and thought like: ughh she looks ugly. *already hiding because EVERYONE here loves her*. So, to make this short: I didn’t like how she looked and how she behaved.

Then next point: her relationship with Cedric. Yes, yes I admit, little 11years old Leni had a HUGE crush on Cedric and maybe that is why I didn’t like their relationship (cause an 11 years old is jealous of a non existing comic character, yep, I make sense).  But tbh, I simply just think that they did not fit together? Okay, what little me always thought was….Orube was not pretty enough to be with Cedric xD And idk I simply can imagine Cedric better with a more elegant and ladylike women by his side.
