End of 2022 Book Stats

Because I like crunching numbers and I think some of you might be interested? Maybe I’m just flattering myself…

Yearly total: 147 + 2
 rereads DNFs: 4 Queer books: 52 (35%) Authors of colour: 31 (21%) Books by women: 88 (60%) Books by nonbinary/genderqueer folk: 9 (6%) Canadian authors: 15 (10%) Off the TBR shelves: 30 (20%)

Compared to my 2021 stats, my percentages of queer books (subject matter and/or author), nonbinary authors, and authors of colour are holding roughly steady. My female and Canadian authors percentages are down. I also always try to set a goal for reading more classics and poetry. This year I read 9 (6%) and last year I was at 6 (3.7%). Success!

At the start of the year, I posted 22 reading goals for the year. I read all but one book off the list (Night Watch by Sarah Waters)! I also wanted to read at least one book off my TBR shelves per month (done) and increase my percentage of authors of colour from 22% (not done, basically holding steady). I was also hoping to have read more Canadian authors than I did, but at the same time, so much Canadian fiction just does not grab my interest.

Did I beat 2021? No.

Did I beat my Best Year Ever? No. That would be 2021.

Did I read more classics? Yes!

Did I read more Canadians? No.

Did I whittle my TBR shelves down any? No. I hauled 102 books, most of which were gifts, free copies from publishers, or hand-me-downs, and I read 30. This gives me a net gain of 72 books. There are also 29 ARCs on my floor. This is, as I’m fond of saying, fine and not at all worrying.

Was it a good reading year? It was fine? I read a lot of good books that weren’t particularly memorable, and a lot of okay books that barely were. And I kind of burned out halfway through the year and had to slow my pace to keep my interest in reading going.

(fair enough) BUT i think its time they #take notice of ELVIS' crew this movie did so well in part to their crafts and characterization departments that are all mostly women! #and mandy walker becoming the third (3rd!) woman ever nonimated for her work as a cinematographer #is soooooo insane but it makes sense because - and if I remember correctly my stats - in hollywood when it comes to crew/craft jobs #cinematography is where there's less women by percentage its very male dominated)

happy spotify wrapped day!! i didn’t get the “my audio day” slide and i’m sad because i feel like this is the first time i’ve missed out on a slide that isn’t podcasts :-(

i can’t believe i got top 0.5% of listeners with my numbers...everyone listen to lexie liu her new singles are really good

#incomplete stats bc i split with apple music again #unlike last year i have it active rn so i can actually see my replay lmao i have 8517 minutes on apple music #but i think something is messed up with it or at least with the album count section #but i think i read apple doesn't count jan. in their replay? for some reason? and jan. was an apple music month for me #i thought verivery would sweep my wrapped and be the first time my top song would be from my top artist #but im still happy to see lexie liu for the second year!! she's underrated i cant believe her listener count dropped #bc i had slightly more minutes last year but was only top 2%...maybe bc gone gold dropped in jan. 2021 #but 2022 she didn't release new music until late nov. so people stopped streaming #lexie liu being top artist continues my streak of my number one artist not having a single song in top 5 asjfhsdf #the first song from her is actually number 14 in the playlist which is actually really low omg #lowkey think my wrapped is messed up but i dont use wrapped for stats just for vibes and the fun stuff like MY AUDIO DAY THAT I DONT HAVE #but i love the design this year i like the bright colors and shapes #it's the design they've been doing all year if you've gotten any push notifs or other random things like super grouper or w/e it was #it's cute and obvs in trend right now lmao but u know it's still cute i like it i love bright colors
