0845 19Aug23: I suppose I should switch my phone date and time to my new home?
Well, I took a morning walk yesterday to Manila Bay, and then this morning, I went to the town market. It will take some time, but for now, I'm just "joe" or small talk "puti".
Working the money transfer to get this vehicle so we can have some wheels to get around with. That's going to be a little learning curve to learn to drive here. Not that it's different in the states but there are certain things that are different... for instance. Flashing your lights at someone isn't giving them the right of way, it telling them you're moving. The horn system is also something I need to figure out! Well I suppose I should take care of some business!
Retired life hasn't set in yet here as it's only day 2 of living in the Philippines.

Leading the race for mugshot of the year
Tumblr media
(Gray News) – ***A trooper patrolling in Vincennes, Indiana, around 9 p.m. Wednesday saw a man – identified as 51-year-old John McKee – “operating a Power Wheels Jeep in the roadway,” State Police said in a news release.
State Police added that McKee’s Power Wheels Jeep “had no lights or reflectors and was difficult to see.”***
McKee failed the sobriety tests and was taken to a hospital, where testing showed he was under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana.
He was arrested and booked on a felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

Surprise, surprise
FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL: A little more than half of the men housed in Wisconsin Department of Corrections facilities who identify as transgender women have been convicted of at least one count of sexual assault or sexual abuse. The revelation comes from Wisconsin Department of Corrections records obtained by The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project through an April 2022 public records request. The Oversight Project sought information on biologically male inmates seeking transfers to female prisons by saying they identified as transgender females. Public safety
Those who disobeyed the barricaded road closures during the Maui fires survived the disaster, while many of those who heeded orders to turn around perished in their cars and homes with no way out, The Associated Press reported. At least 114 people were killed in the fires earlier this month, and the FBI is estimating that up to 1,100 more are unaccounted for. Officials are facing increased scrutiny for the emergency response, including why the emergency sirens were not set off and whether closing the roads prevented people from getting to safety.*** https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4166222-maui-residents-who-disobeyed-barricade-survived-fires-ap-reports/

Good news from Institute for Justice
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Waylon Bailey posted an overtly satirical joke on his Facebook page, likening the pandemic to a zombie apocalypse (and to make his joke even more obvious, Bailey included a hashtag referencing the Brad Pitt movie World War Z). But he soon discovered that not everyone has a sense of humor. The sheriff’s office arrived at his house with several armed officers, stormed in with guns drawn, arrested him, and took him to jail, alleging he had committed an act of terrorism. Though the district attorney dropped the case and Waylon was eventually released, the courts refused to hold the officials accountable—granting them qualified immunity and alleging that Waylon didn’t have any free speech rights to make the joke in the first place. So, Waylon teamed up with IJ to appeal the case and hold the government officials accountable for violating his rights. And today, the 5th Circuit declared that the officers involved are not entitled to qualified immunity “because no reasonable officer could have found probable cause to arrest Bailey" for violating the state's anti-terrorism statute. This marks the second time in as many months that IJ has persuaded a federal court of appeals to overturn a lower court’s granting of qualified immunity for egregious behavior by government officials.***
The case is Bailey v. Iles, No. 22-30509, ___ F.4th ___ (5th Cir. Aug. 25, 2023). http://www.ca5.uscourts.gov/electronic-case-filing/case-information/current-opinions should post the opinion around 28aug23.

What's worse than paying to watch the As crush your Sox 12-4?
How about three people being shot in the park and being locked down while the team won't say why? https://abc7chicago.com/white-sox-shooting-game-guaranteed-rate-field-chicago/13703261/
The game was not interrupted but after the game, a message came up on the ballpark screen saying the post-show Vanilla Ice and Tone Loc concert was canceled "due to technical difficulties." Fans who had waited through the Sox brutal 12-4 loss to the Oakland A's were left angry and confused by the sudden cancelation and lack of information. "There was supposed to be a free concert after the game, they came and announced right after the game that it had been canceled. They didn't give any information. Everyone started booing, going crazy, and saying derogatory things," said attendee Rod Moyers. "Then about five minutes later they put up a note on the screen saying it was canceled due to technical issues. Everyone booed, no one was leaving. Some people said they should storm the field. Then the whole crowd started chanting, 'Sell the team!'"

Latest Smith-Trump shenanigans
United States v. Trump, 23-cr-80101 (S.D.Fla.) is the documents case against former Pres Trump, Waltine Nauta, and Carlos De Oliveira.
J. Cannon ordered Special Counsel Smith on 8aug23 to file a document to "address the legal propriety of using an out-of-district grand jury proceeding to continue to investigate and/or to seek post-indictment hearings on matters pertinent to the instant indicted matter in this district."
Mr Smith acknowledged last week that "on June 20, 2023, the Government advised Trump Employee 4 (through Mr. Woodward) that he was the target of a grand jury investigation in the District of Columbia." Mr Smith then brought a motion in Florida to disqualify Mr Woodward from representing Mr Nauta.
Reasonable people can look at this as Mr Smith intimidating in DC a witness for a trial Florida. Reasonable people can also look at this as Mr Smith attempting to damage Mr Nauta's defense by depriving him of his counsel of choice.

A former deputy sheriff with the Dallas County, Alabama, Sheriff’s Office was sentenced [Friday, August 25, 2023] in the Southern District of Alabama to 12 and a half years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman while he was on duty. According to the superseding information and plea documents, on Jan. 30, 2020, Joshua Davidson, 33, while on duty as a Dallas County deputy sheriff, placed the victim in custody and drove her down a dark road to a desolate location where the victim performed oral sex on him against her will. The victim, who reported the assault immediately, was in fear that Davidson would shoot her if she did not cooperate.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-alabama-deputy-sheriff-sentenced-sexually-assaulting-woman-his-custody

After Tues
As hard to predict as the sun rising in the east.
Intoxicated by the thrill of humiliating former President Donald Trump for the fourth time, Democrats opted to take and release a mug shot following his arrest in Fulton County, Georgia . It was a serious miscalculation, and the realization of this foolish, unforced error is just beginning to sink in. Perhaps the most immediate consequence of this colossal blunder was that it instantly catapulted Trump to “legend” status in the eyes of the black men who lined the street as his motorcade wound its way to the Fulton County Jail last week. They see the mug shot as a symbol of “the man” sticking it to “the people,” a feeling with which they are intimately familiar. On Friday, rappers Chief Keef and Lil Pump showed their support for Trump on social media. Lil Pump posted his own mug shot next to Trump’s on Instagram with the caption, “Free Trump.” Chief Keef posted a photo of Trump flashing a gang symbol, saying, “he good in da hood,” and predicted that if Trump ever gets convicted, he would “run the prison.” In a video that’s since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), @TONYxTwo told a reporter: “Yes. … Look what happened to Martha Stewart. She caught that felony. She goes to all the cookouts. With Snoop Dog. She is endorsed. … Bro, Trump is a brother now. You go to jail in Zone 6 in Atlanta, you’re [inaudible]. They f***** up. N***** like n***** that went to jail. They believe in that s***. …”*** https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-justice/backlash-to-trump-mug-shot-is-growing-particularly-among-black-men

Chicago news team robbed at gunpoint during report on armed robberies in the city
This is the second time a Chicago TV news crew has been robbed this month
A Univision news team in Chicago was held at gunpoint and robbed on Monday morning while reporting on a recent string of armed robberies in the Windy City. At around 5:00 AM, a reporter and photographer were filming in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in West Town when three men sporting ski masks exited two vehicles, according to Univision and Chicago police. The men then approached the television news crew, brandishing firearms. They demanded the employees hand over their money and then searched their SUV.   National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET-CWA) Local 41 President Raza Siddiqui said the suspects stole a camera, two film equipment bags and the photographer’s backpack.*** https://www.foxnews.com/media/chicago-news-team-robbed-gunpoint-report-armed-robberies

What's the worst that could happen?
The Biden administration has abruptly—and quietly—replaced the scandal-plagued director of the Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS), marking the fourth time in around as many years that the agency gets a new leader. Such frequent turnover at the top illustrates the instability that has prevailed at FAMS, which operates under the beleaguered Transportation Security Administration (TSA), created after 9/11 to prevent another terrorist attack. Both function under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and have been rocked by controversy and mismanagement that has left the nation vulnerable from a security standpoint, according to multiple DHS sources interviewed by Judicial Watch. The latest FAMS director to get ousted, Tirrell Stevenson, has been quietly replaced on an “acting” basis by Brian C. Belcher, according to an agency memo dispersed to staff a few days ago. Publicly, the move is being handled by simply eliminating Stevenson’s biography and photo on the TSA Leadership and Organization page and replacing it with Belcher’s with no further explanation. FAMS sources provided Judicial Watch with the memo informing staff that as of August 14 Belcher, a FAMS deputy executive assistant, “assumed the duties of Acting Executive Assistant Administrator (EAA)/Director for LE/FAMS.” The move was sudden, according to FAMS sources. In his short tenure—a little over a year—as FAMS director, Stevenson was reportedly embroiled in widespread wrongdoing, waste, fraud and abuse and many inside the agency have called on Congress to intervene. Stevenson’s transgressions include misusing government resources by deploying FAMS to the southern border, greatly compromising the security of the nation’s aviation system. Stevenson also removed air marshals from missions to send them to military bases for Afghan refugees.*** https://www.judicialwatch.org/dhs-replaces-air-marshal-director

Smart kid; good governor
CV NEWS FEED // A Colorado charter school kicked a seventh-grader out of class because he had a patch of the Gadsden flag on his backpack.
The incident took place Monday at the Vanguard School, which describes itself on its website as the “top charter school in Colorado Springs, CO.”
Twelve-year-old Jaiden Rodriguez was prevented from going to class solely due to the patch, which he refused to remove.
The bright yellow flag features an image of a coiled rattlesnake accompanied by the phrase “Don’t tread on me.” It has been a popular symbol of freedom from excessive government authority since the nation’s founding. ***
Jaiden has received an outpouring of bipartisan support. Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis set the record straight on the true history and meaning of the Gadsden flag.
“Obviously the Gadsden flag is a proud symbol of the American revolution and a [sic] iconic warning to Britain or any government not to violate the liberties of Americans,” Polis wrote on X:
It appears on popular American medallions and challenge coins through today and Ben Franklin also adopted it to symbolize the union of the 13 colonies. It’s a great teaching moment for a history lesson!*** https://catholicvote.org/school-punishes-12-year-old-colorado-boy-for-dont-tread-on-me-patch

Texas coaches charged with not reporting sexual assaults because suspect was a ‘good player’: cops
MaryAnn Martinez Two Texas high school softball coaches have been charged with covering up a series of sexual assaults — allegedly because the suspect is “a good player” needed on the team. Prosper High School head coach Renna Bersosa and her assistant Kasie Ostrom were told on Aug. 7 that one of their athletes had abused three other students during summer break sleepovers, according to a police affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News. But Bersosa responded by saying that “the suspect in the sexual assaults is a good player, and they don’t want to lose her,” the reporting student told the cops.*** https://nypost.com/2023/08/30/texas-coaches-didnt-report-sex-abuser-because-shes-a-good-player-cops/

A nationwide retail theft epidemic cost the United States close to $100 billion in 2021. Stores are being forced to raise prices or shut up shop, insurers are refusing to help, and smaller mom and pop stores are being left behind. In this series, Mayhem on Main Street, the Washington Examiner will investigate the causes behind the scourge of shoplifting, the role of the cartels, the cost to stores big and small, and the complicity of lax prosecutors. Part four will focus on law enforcement of retail theft. To read parts one, two, and three, click here, here, and here. Retail giant Nordstrom’s flagship store in a San Francisco mall permanently closed this week, marking the latest store to fall as the city grapples with a glaring exodus of brick-and-mortar shops. The cause of the closure, according to a mall spokeswoman, included “unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area.” She said the closure "underscore[d] the deteriorating situation in downtown San Francisco.” Union Square, San Francisco’s commercial hub, has lost nearly half of its stores since 2019, a local survey found. Retail crime in urban areas is one of the well-documented factors for these store closures, but an increasingly accommodating environment for organized retail crime and viral surveillance footage capturing brazen incidents of thievery has magnified the problem.*** https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/crime/mayhem-main-street-california-ground-zero-retail-theft-prosecution

Another great reason to be American -
Finnish lawmaker Päivi Räsänen is on trial this week for tweets she posted in 2019. The tweets didn't threaten, defame, or incite violence.
Though they were unanimously acquitted by a Finnish District Court in 2022, prosecutors appealed their acquittal to the Helsinki Court of Appeal.  Now, the two are facing tens of thousands of Euros in fines and possibly two years in prison if they are found guilty. Additionally, the court could also rule to censor Räsänen’s publications.*** Catholic News Agency.

Ted then groped the judge and attempted to transfer a sexual predator to a distant parish.
CV NEWS FEED // On Wednesday, sexual assault charges against former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick were officially dropped after a judge ruled he was not competent to stand trial in a Massachusetts case involving decades-old charges. In June, a Massachusetts state expert recommended after a mental assessment that the 92-year-old be deemed mentally unfit to participate in his own defense due to severe dementia.   Though other allegations against McCarrick have surfaced in the five years since his laicization by the Vatican, the charges in this case involve an alleged encounter with a sixteen-year-old boy at a 1974 wedding reception in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The accuser alleges that McCarrick sexually molested him there.   McCarrick was facing three counts of indecent exposure and assault against a person over the age of 14 in the case.  Before the charges were dropped, he had pleaded not guilty and has continued to maintain his innocence.  The Massachusetts case is one of two criminal cases against McCarrick. In April, he was charged with the sexual assault of a minor in Wisconsin in 1977.*** https://catholicvote.org/sexual-assault-charges-againts-mccarrick-dropped

Manga Title: Honey So Sweet
Progress: on chapter 3
Impressions: It's the typical shoujo high school manga. So far it's cute, but Onise stands out the most. Two new characters were introduced. I don't feel the chemistry yet.
Edit... 19Aug23
I finally finished it and... its title is quite apt. It was too sweet and almost everyone was too nice. Even the supposedly edgy characters end up being sweet. It took me way too long but, weirdly, I finished it with a feeling of nostalgia.
