この変電所の佐世保側には三間坂変電所があって、変電所同士が隣接する関係になる。
交流き電では、ふつう変電所の間にはき電区分所を挟んで互いのき電区間が重ならないようにするんだけれど、この変電所の運開後はどうなるんだろう。 → こうなった
2024.1.7 追記
鉄道と電気技術 Vol.33 No.8 (2022.8) に「佐世保線複線化事業について」という題名で、この高橋変電所や肥前山口き電区分所の移設を含む変電設備、電車線設備、信号保安設備の改修、複線切替作業の概要などが記されている。
それによれば、三間坂変電所の脱落時、博多・東京方に隣接する佐賀変電所からの延長き電では、複線化にともなう電車負荷の増加による電圧降下のために、き電末端 (すなわち佐世保またはハウステンボス付近) で最低架線電圧 16kV の維持が難しくなることから高橋変電所が新設されることになった とのこと。
