The thing about film and old cameras is that there are zero guarantees that any pictures are gonna turn out.
And so it went with the Spartus Full Vue for #12monthsonfilmmar
I dev'd the roll of Tri-X yesterday. I'll scan the negs this afternoon. Looks like seven possibilities out of twelve shots. Fingers crossed.
April is a new month.
A favorite month, because between April 21st and April 26th Spring 'Roid Week 2024 happens.
And that means I'll be shooting instant film for #12monthsonfilmapr and it'll be with four Instax cameras - the SQ10, SQ6, Wide 300, and the miniEvo - and naturally, all Instax films.
So, yeah. A twofer this month… @12monthsonfilm and Spring 2024 'Roid Week.
All kinds of instant fun.

Routine.
The day-to-day, every day.
Three days ago. Wednesday. The last day of January 2024. I was washing dishes. Lunch dishes. I look to my right and see the plant the missus picked out at the local garden center a coupla' years ago, living life in the corner of the kitchen.
Money Tree, as I recall.
The plant's getting diffused light, and plenty of it.
The three windows in our kitchen face west, so from about noon until the sun goes down, we get a lot of light shining through. Of course, the the blinds get tweaked all afternoon long so the sun isn't hitting the plant directly.
The light is remarkable.
The next second, I think of @12monthsonfilm and February's camera/film combo.
It takes me two days to put everything in play.
And my plan is not without stumbles, not without miss-steps. New toys are fun, but I can get a little too excited and really. Fuck. Things. Up.
But, I figure if I can get one or two decent shots out of a pack, I'm doing pretty good.
So, yesterday. All the gyrations. Meter. Position. Settings. Focus.
I got lucky. The first attempt was perfect. You're looking at it.
I wasted 3 shots getting to it, though. Live and learn.
I'm curious, excited for what the rest of February brings.

Jailhouse Blues.
Intrepid 4x5 Black Edition + Fujinon-SWD 90mm ƒ/5.6, Copal 0 + Fujifilm FP100C
Got out with the LF gear yesterday. Georgetown, the old Wilco jailhouse at 4th and Main Street.
It's been a while since I've been out with cameras.
Boy, did I feel rusty. Maybe just off.
I dropped the Polaroid 405 back, not once but twice, while trying to secure it to the rear standard. Hit the ground. It popped open one of those times.
Luckily the two pictures left in the pack didn't get ruined.
This is the only shot I got.
I struggled for about 45 minutes, then packed up and drove home.
Gorgeous day, though.
I'll get out again soon.

I had a lot of fun and relative success with the Hasselblad 500C/M, Nons Instant back, and Instax Square Monochrome last month. I've got an idea for a long-term project with that set-up.
My March camera/film combo for @12monthsonfilm is the Spartus Full Vue + Kodak Tri-X 400, expired January 2022.

Hasselblad 500C/M, Hasselblad Zeiss Planar T* 80mm ƒ/2.8, Proxar ƒ/0.5m close-up filter + NONS Instant Back, Fujifilm Instax Square Monochrome Instant Film
Yet another shot for @12monthsonfilm
This time I added the Proxar ƒ/0.5m close-up filter to the 80mm.
I'm really digging the grain in this black and white film. Luscious.

Fujipet. Thunderbird. Fujipetto.
The newest addition to the collection. An earlier version with a cover over the film counter window, the flash plug is outside the lens hood, and it has a glass lens.
I've wanted one of these from the day I started playing with toy cameras. Such a cool design. Nishimura Masaki, professor at the Tokyo University of Arts is said to be the designer.
Sean Rohde put together an excellent Fujipet resource on his blog. He shares a little history, some cool goodies, maintenance, and a manuals.
The only time I've seen one in the wild was at a Santa Cruz, CA photostroll back in September 2009. Jody Miller brought hers along for the walk. I was mesmerized.
I'll be using this awesome shooter sometime this year for @12monthsonfilm

Parlor.
Intrepid 4x5 Black Edition, 210mm ƒ/5.6 Schneider-Kreuznach Symmar-S Copal 3, Polaroid 405 back + Fujifilm FP100C.
Reclaimed negative scan
My first @12monthsonfilm post. This was an experiment. The film was in the holder for a while and I'd forgotten which film it was, but I had a faint recollection that it was Fuji FP100C.
So I shot this one picture in the music room. I didn't write down the settings because I just wanted to confirm what film it was, but my suspicions were confirmed.
The pulled print was way underexposed, but I always hold onto the "throw away part" because I get a kick out reclaiming negatives.
Reclaimed negatives… you know, securely taping the emulsion side face down to a piece of glass, fold up and place a paper towel over the black backing and soak it with bleach. Give it 10-15 minutes and then wipe away to see the remaining usable negative! Cool stuff.
I placed the dry negative on the scanner bed as if it were a print. The scan actually turned out! Pretty cool. Not the first time i've tried this trick.
I'm going to get out later in the week with the LF stuff and shoot Instax Wide Color using the LomoGraflok, the remaining FP100C, and if it's sunny Fomopan 100 Sheet, cloudy, Ilford FP5+ sheet film will get used.

@12monthsonfilm sounds like fun.
My main 2024 photography goal is to shoot as much large format as possible, but this challenge is doable in tandem.
I'm gonna start off January shooting with my Intrepid 4x5 Black Edition.
I have a coupla' shots of FP100C left in the Polaroid 405 back, 5 shots of Instax Wide in the LomoGraflok, and 6 film holders loaded up with Fomopan 100 and Ilford HP5 Plus 400.
I still need to figure out the camera/film combos for the next 11 months.
Should be a blast.
