Honestly it does sound like an interesting but equally depressing scenario. If Mai didn’t decide to leave the hotel, and Latte woke up when Yuri returned to clean up the evidence at the library, things would diverge from there. If Latte, god forbid, killed a student, most likely on accident in this situation, would Mai go a bit beast mode? Yes I think she would go a bit beast mode.

And then she would eventually calm down into a more depressive state. She’d start blaming herself a lot for what happened, wishing she had gone with Latte to the library in the first place. Hayasaka and Kurumada would help her through her grief and blaming. She wouldn’t be mad at Natsuki, though, like she wasn’t at the end of the third trial canonically. She would take Latte’s place in trying to help her overcome her killer’s guilt.

Mai would also avoid the kitchen and cafe for a while, and I would see Hayasaka and Kurumada trying to bake something for her to make her feel better (it goes horribly but she appreciates it so much). I have a feeling Brian would want to help them, and Natsuki wants to as well but she feels too guilty at the time to go into the kitchen.

She’d continue to give a helping hand during the trial as well, as while I do see some hallucinations affecting her, I believe she’s strong enough to not do anything and allow the canon fourth case to take place like it would.

Also we technically do have a ship name for Mai and Latte: coffeeshop! It came from the discord server lol
