#01. DAUGHTER OF THE VOID — EMILY KALDWIN.
meagan foster pushing emily’s boots off the table and then mumbling about them being dusty held a lot of familiar merit. it was certainly a comforting companionship, like this older sister she’s never gotten to have. an allyship emily was more than grateful to have. up until the truth was revealed. every little thing. she’s never particularly felt so alone than she did in that moment when billie revealed she had been part of the crew that killed her mother. taking the skiff back to dunwall tower to end delilah, once and for all, there was an ache so big in her chest it felt permanent.
— 𝙼𝙰𝚈𝙱𝙴 𝙸𝚃 𝚆𝙰𝚂. it’s so soul draining fighting for your empire, hoping to get your father back, wondering where your girlfriend is, watching your best friend die [ ... ] then you have one [ ... ] one friend. & she’s a lie. like half of emily’s life has been. lies, secrets. maybe that’s why she didn’t believe when elsa was standing right there, or why she was standing right there that day emily came back. or why emily has seen so severely distant. maybe elsa does understand. it’s most certainly why emily is standing in the courtyard of dunwall — eyes have not left alexi’s parents.
emily has just standing in the back, elsa by her side, silent since her speech. jarring. there is absolutely no doubt that it reminded every single person in this courtyard that emily kaldwin wasn’t just an empress — she was a person. and that person has been best friends with alexi mayhew since they were children, just for a bitter old man to stab alexi for power. every single person felt the shake of emily’s cool demeanor into bitter rage during that speech. not only that, as jarring as it already was, this was only the final funeral of so many given out around dunwall.
most of all, this is why when the courtyard cleared out besides alexi’s parents, is when emily turned. the events weighing on her mind, she was merely in the survival mode she was during the months of reclaiming her empire. so she just turned, didn’t even acknowledge elsa, standing shoulder to shoulder with her, walking back into the throne room. emily has NOWHERE TO GO, or at least it felt like it. clean-up is still underway. walls stripped, hallways still littered with remnants of delilah’s desecration, stains of blood still be soaked out, leaves + branches. smaller things, but it was still enough. emily was eerily quiet until she got to the top of the stairs passed the throne room. because that’s where alexi died, after all.
the thump of emily falling to her knees.

@survivedempathy / @vetrhridar : He's just going to gesture, his head nodding discreetly towards where the Queen of Tyvia stands further in the ballroom, laughing at her sister. He knows the two were friends years ago, before everything. His eyes move to meet Emily's carefully, eyebrows raising in question. "You talk to her?" He signs quickly, unbothered by the glances towards him. / survivedempathy corvo (set like. During Elsa’s coronation thing okay let me indulge myself.)
➜ ACCEPTING / this is random .
the voices around the throne room hall echo quietly, choruses of different voices chiming in to create a social function. emily kaldwin didn’t have the same type of coronation. circumstances were far too dire for her to wait to be of age. corvo & a few select members of a royal court made the bigger decisions. emily was just a figurehead until her first big decision: the regenters fates after they attacked she & alexi mayhew. emily just glanced at corvo’s features, standing tall, hands linked behind her back. a very rigid, proud stance. corvo attano is many things, but he has never once failed at being an excellent father. spymaster isn’t the reason he knows her friendships; it’s the fact she cares. emily was planning on congratulating elsa as it was. a speech about region bonds, something uplifting to promote unity & allyship. emily’s lips are pursed. no, he’s asking not out of the empress to the new queen of emily’s empire -- but to be an old friend again.
“ i don’t think it’s relevant anymore to ask her if she wants to play hide and seek. ” as if that was the only option, emily knows it isn’t. it’s just exceptionally overwhelming to drudge up a childhood that was torn apart by various circumstances & then laced with a rat plague just to usurp the throne. emily’s voice is soft, words spoken just for him. sepia eyes soften, though. that was sarcasm, but she might try speaking to elsa like an old friend none the less -- just not exactly like the sarcasm.

i just honestly love the relationships i’ve developed with emily:
- a cursed god who created a daughter to love & that daughter embracing his love + heritage.
- ‘the street rat’ aka the glaring problem of class difference in dunwall becoming platonic soulmates with the child empress + emily sneaking out frequently to run across rooftops with him.
- the princess of arendelle becoming friend with the princess of gristol + becoming so connected they fall in love & become the idea of soulmates, so much so that their variant magics work together.

i’m on this kick of god-like qualities or inconsequentially powerful being .... that don’t want control. which is why my new oc is a demi-god, i’m working on, which is why i love ciri & why i’m inseparable from emily. anyway, especially with the big personal canon of her father legitimately being a god - aka the outsider, the god of the void. it got me thinking that she’s probably the god of chaos, her powers are chaotic, in line with matching with the outsider’s aesthetic, of course. her attraction to elsa + being a big part of canon is that elsa is also a god. what i love most is that the aesthetic matches. the fifth spirit, can create a world of darkness + snow but chooses not to.
emily could be high chaos. she could have slaughtered everyone, reigned over her empire + people. she chooses not to. it is not without doubt that she can help descend the empire into chaos at any moment’s notice but being the god of chaos doesn’t mean there has to be a high amount of chaos. it means understanding chaos, it means exerting CONTROL over it. too much chaos & the empire will just fall, there will be nothing left. what is an empress without an empire? what is a god without chaos to control? what is a demi-god daughter if she descending into chaos means there’s now very few ways to see the void? does the void exist if nobody worships it?

“Yes,” she starts, hushed and murmured as trails her hands UP AND UP AND UP to cradle her wife’s jaw, slipping to straddle Emily so she KNOWS she’s listening. “You do, but not in the way you are THINKING.” Whispered, the Winter Goddess leans down, nose to nose, forehead to forehead.
“You frighten me when you go SO FAR from me, but are also near. You frighten me when I cannot wake you from your slumber. You frighten me because I COULD LOSE YOU and I cannot tolerate a world without you, Emily Kaldwin.” It’s almost SCOLDING, her gentled voice, words murmured and pressed against lips as she leaves the SOFTEST of pecks against her wife’s.
“But you, YOURSELF, do not frighten me, kjære. You could never frighten me.”

we don’t talk enough about how not only did emily watch her mother die - traumatizing enough, when havelock raged war, he also killed certain members of the loyalists right in front of her. he didn’t hide that he was going to use her. kidnapped her again. we don’t ever point out that emily like running across the rooftops and getting out of the tower because she was locked up numerous times against her will. it just kind of makes me sad that a lot of people write her off as an uncaring empress when she was crowned when she was 10 after having to watch a bunch of people die, including her mother. & i forgot how much more important low chaos emily is for me because of these reasons. everything that happened ..... happened out of anger. that’s not what she wants to be. she’s tired.

@torncrocus : He lingers like a shadow, clings to the edges of the room as he is known to do. His concern for her rivals with his duty of keeping careful watch, fingers clenched behind his back, wordless as he stares at his grieving daughter. ( Oh how she has lost so much. It's not fair, it's never fair. First her mother, then Alexi, and now — now Elsa. It almost makes him angry. He shakes with it. The cruelty of the world. ) Slowly, Corvo reaches out, fingers just brushing the fabric of her shoulder. His hand closes around her shoulder, slow and careful, a gentle squeeze as he tugs her into a his arms. Holds her to his chest like it will protect her from her grief, and wishes he could do so much more.

When she was sitting on a dirty floor of a brothel, hand shaking, as she tried to draw some happy picture on paper. The Lord Regent himself had come in, trying to look guilty, as if the title granted to him: Lord Regent, didn’t mean anything in excusing Corvo. As he told her, hands clasped, that they had executed Corvo. Head chopped off.
Then he just simply left, Madame Prudence looked at Emily once, as if she actually momentarily felt something other than the money cushioned in her pocket. Then she left too, let the door shut behind her. At least they didn’t lock it, at least Emily wasn’t completely cooped up in that room, as she drew her family how she wanted to remember them the best. A 10 year old’s little drawing of Jessamine standing tall, Corvo hovering protectively around her, Emily between them. This Emily cries, tears just well up in her eyes after just silently sitting there.
Emily curls into Corvo, like the nights after they finally returned to the tower, trying to find comfort. Callista could only care so much: it seems she was the only one in the war between the Loyalists & The Regent’s people that remembered that Emily was simply only a 10-year-old kid. Everyone else only saw the heir to the throne. Emily’s head was pressed into Corvo’s shoulder. Such is the way of life that now she has to do something. Some remembrance, some speech. Then move on. But, her silent tears turn into loud sobs & she hasn’t felt so weak in so long. It’s like something was ripped straight from her chest. She’s trying to grasp at it. It just hurts so much. IT’S A PHYSICAL PAIN.
Isn’t she glad for once she doesn’t have to talk? Her voice would sound so hoarse, so weak. Mouth dry, she leans back, eyes red to sign: “ I would appreciate it if you kept Wyman as close as possible for awhile. ” She only has two friends left ..... now one of them is the queen, a weight only Emily can understand. The other is still her Royal Protector.

i just wanna talk about two things here.
1. the fact the in game description advertises shadow walk as more of a stealth option, but here is just critically used as an intimidation tactic. which i feel makes more sense, i like using shadow walk to utilize the rat vents but in a more lore setting and less of just a gameplay setting, shadow walk is a MONSTER FORM . emily’s powers are just more void-like .... and dare i say more powerful than corvo or daud’s. billie’s and granny rag’s could hold up. anyway, what i’m getting at here is that emily just isn’t human anymore. shadow walk is evidence of that.
2. lmao she points at him. it’s so accusatory, the judge.

@torncrocus : Trace Emily and Elsa
— scar meme !! / definitely accepting .
𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙱𝙰𝚃𝙷 𝚆𝙰𝚂 𝙼𝙴𝙰𝙽𝚃 𝚃𝙾 𝙷𝙴𝙻𝙿 𝙷𝙴𝚁 𝚁𝙴𝙻𝙰𝚇. Emily’s really just dissociating. It wasn’t even of a particular reason. The day was busy, it just wasn’t upsetting, just busy enough her feet ache by the time she took off her boots. Elsa was out, she just needed something that’ll get her off her feet. Bath.
Elsa’s slightly cold fingers touch the back of her right shoulder. It’s the only reason her shoulder twitched just the lightest - not Elsa in general. She understands Elsa like the smell in the wind before the rain even comes. She just feels Elsa, even when brown eyes are wide & just staring at the tiled wall in front of herself. Those wide eyes blink. Emily’s head tilts sideways, just slightly closer to Elsa. Her eyes close, instead. The memory of the scar could be bittersweet, but it’s one of the oldest ones & instead it’s just reminding her how far she’s come.
Emily’s asking Callista if she’s allowed to find some doting lover to marry. Callista’s pretty face is marred by worry, eyebrows furrowed. Emily’s question doesn’t deter her concentration. Emily’s always asking questions. She really did like Callista, though. They fell into the duo of student & mentor so easily. Callista took up the healm of Emily’s caretaker ..... & took it up with love, not for some ulterior motive. All Callista’s updates on Emily’s well-being were always to Corvo. Nobody else. It’s just this small scar on Emily’s shoulder. Barely even noticeable, there’s just a lit candle next to Emily’s bare back. It really only scarred because Emily got that cut in the Golden Cat, then said nothing about it. Until Callista found it. &, isn’t it fond that Emily is now married. She just remembers Callista’s soft smile, this profoundly happy look when she shook Emily’s hand for the last time.
Then Callista left, took off on a boat. She also had an fond taste for adventure. It’s Callista that said be safe before she left, even though her boat went missing. Emily’s head tilts forward. The hand with the ring coming up to push her hair back before she fell asleep right here. “ Hello, my wife. ”

what i wouldn’t do for a wyman dlc ..... which would have been a perfect dlc. imagine thinking you, as a royal protector, while away had just lost your boss & your empress. that’s like the perfect dishonored set-up. they put so much energy into setting emily up, like they didn’t know where wyman was. beginning scene is just wyman fighting their way out of an ambush, ready to nab a boat back when emily’s note comes in. you could still keep them non-binary & up to the player’s imagination. give them a cool royal mask, kaldwin symbol on it. i don’t know about powers, bring in one of the quiet characters like the rat boy, temporary hook up powers. slap in some reason why they’re incredibly connected to emily & corvo & getting a temporary, smaller version of their powers. perfect way to show highlights of another island, then in the end, it’s wyman returning to the shambles of dunwall tower. the emotions. some dramatic scene where emily’s just standing on some highpoint, dark mist around her. yeah.

@trifrost asked: And till the end you’re my very best friend. Anna at Emily!!
— FROM THIS MEME. i am 100% accepting more of this.
the moment freezes. 𝚃𝙸𝙼𝙴 𝚅𝙴𝚁𝚈 𝙽𝙴𝙰𝚁𝙻𝚈 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿𝚂. disambiguous —
emily remembers the time when they were young, almost the same words, not quite the exact match. same exact meaning. emily’s head just bows the slightest, hands clasped behind her back, the standing ovation of royalty in it’s most professional setting. anna looking up at emily like the older kid was her hero — the same way she’d always look at elsa. the very first moment emily puffed out her chest, stood up taller, & welcomed the idea of being apart of two families.
sepia colored eyes peer back upwards, the real moment comes back to her. emily’s face a little too neutral, the space of air a little too quiet. she just isn’t reacting right away because that caught her off guard. it was just a set of words she wasn’t expecting to hear again. her childhood is a lifetime away, even if she did marry her childhood best friend: it felt like another world. it was the world when her mother was alive, corvo always by her side, smiling fondly at children playing.
she truly still doesn’t know what to say.
she only knows how she’s feeling: like she’s fully realizing — even with prior knowledge — the ability to fall in love all over again. that there are numerous types of love & she has the ability to experience at least three of them.
01 — romantic attraction, falling in love, head over heels. 𝙿𝙰𝚂𝚂𝙸𝙾𝙽𝙰𝚃𝙴, fiery, undeniable. an attraction that not even magic itself could sever if magic made itself into a pure God just to break them apart. the best friend you learn in every single possible aspect. 𝚈𝙾𝚄𝚁 𝚂𝙾𝚄𝙻𝙼𝙰𝚃𝙴.
02 — familial adoration, a respect earned in all it’s honesty, an unbreakable bond. this is the love that’s founded on guardianship, on trusting someone so wholly that you grow up learning from them. that you pick up some of their attributes, that you understand morals & virtues best from them. 𝚈𝙾𝚄𝚁 𝙵𝙰𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁.
03 — platonic attraction, something so pure, something so innocent. it is love in most basic & raw forms: as it was meant to be.
“ the end itself wouldn’t be the finish of our friendship, anna. ”

also, the whole entire idea that an empress or monarch is usually the number target of the kingdom for assassinations ... then being so highly trained that they can defend themselves on top of having a well-trained royal guard is just so captivating. especially when they’re good natured, high morals, high virtue. both ciri + emily sincerely aim for the benefit of the empire ... that’s why they’re there.
and ... they don’t need a royal guard. they can walk through their own streets without a care because nobody can touch them. it’s just so captivating to me.
but a storyline where an enemy uses a loved one against them.

honestly, this one journal entry is just so important to me. i’ve mentioned quite frequently how i despise how delilah desecrated dunwall tower, how the coup had random, innocent lords, civilians, guards + more people just murdered. dunwall was an absolute desecrate nightmare after delilah took the thrown — that’s what she wanted. she just wanted emily + all her followers to pay. she ruined everything, she destroyed what she could. delilah, now, is just a void entity. she really doesn’t need riches. she found people who also just wanted to destroy. that’s how delilah works.
so when billie has this simple journal article — it makes me so happy. that all those dead bodies, that ruined dunwall tower, all of that wasn’t just game aesthetic. it was delilah’s plan. and here emily is, reinstating the abbey because 1) a big portion of them were so loyal to her that they tried to fight their way into dunwall tower and 2) they’re cleaning up what delilah destroyed. what delilah desecrated. and, no, emily nor myself fully believe in the abbey or even like the abbey.
but emily needs her tower back. the tower that is in shambles. and on top of all of that [ along with other articles ] emily was very loudly the favored empress, especially for trade, by the other isles. a lot of the isles, except karnaca, cut off trade when delilah was on the thrown. when emily was back, they sent representatives to reinstate this as well — as soon as emily made the announcement she was back.
you’re right to be critical of her as a sovereign, but she cared about the isles before all this went down — now she just cares more.

- grace’s blue eye color is also augmented making it brighter.
- emily’s eyes turn pure black when she’s using her powers.
