Poll adventure (paventure? lol) Day 10: read the small story tidbit below the poll for more details, OR just vote based on initial impression
(✦ see past poll results + further information HERE (link) ✦)
Yesterday's poll decided that The Adventurer should join the travelers on the larger river boat for a short lunch ...
~
"Before he even fully musters the courage to shout a 'hello', the large group on the boat initiates contact first, gleefully waving at him, whooping and shouting as they near his tiny raft in the water. Apparently, some of them were betting over whether they'd actually find any other travelers out on the river today.. He fumbles over his words a bit, as always, but somehow manages to successfully get himself invited onto their boat for a quick lunch..
After safely securing his raft to the side of the boat with some spare rope, he climbs aboard, stumbling into the excitement of some sort of celebration. A few of them explain that they're traveling for 'kahesallei', an old elven holiday recently re-popularized in some of the larger cities nearby. Whatever it's true meaning and origins used to be, the current significance (at least to those within the city walls) seems to just be mindless feasting, drinking, and gaudy decor. Most of the traveling group are strangers to each other, only brought together by catching a ride on the same tour/party boat, but the mood is light, quite friendly between them, and perhaps a bit drunk.
While the boat itself is relatively plain wood, it's been strewn with gold and orange banners, flags, shimmery tassels, beads, and bushels of dark green ivy braided with fresh herbs and wildflowers. There are flat round tables of food and drink, plenty of cushions to lounge on, and one random guy perched precariously on the edge railing of the boat, gently strumming a lute for background music..
The elderly ship captain hobbles over to The Adventurer, sternly explaining that, no matter what the 'silly' passengers say, he's only allowed to stay for an hour because he didn't pay for a boat ride ticket, and thus really shouldn't even be allowed on board. By the time The Adventurer has mentally processed this information, the captain has already returned to his little steering room, slamming the door shut with a displeased grunt.. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to confront him or question the rules...... But! Hey, at least he has one hour at the party.. How should he spend his time? "
~
Additional Information
the adventurer's current main goal: follow his map to reach the abandoned castle ruins and see the rare animal specialist about the mysterious egg he has
#paventure posting#polls#poll#choose your own adventure#LATE AGAIn I know.. I'm still in my weird unproductive spell. literally I've had the same 5 to do list items on my list#for 2 weeks now. I can't even do five simple things in 2 weeks lol. I did start some new supplements and change my diet since#my doctors are still trying to sort out what health issues are going on or etc. so maybe it's something with that#like accidentally on the new diet I'm not getting enough calories or not getting enough of some vitamin or something so it's made me oddly#brain foggy and just really tired and unable to focus well for the past few weeks or something..? ANYWYA. not really sure what#it is specifically but my functioning in terms of actually focusing on and completing tasks has been a lot worse . thus#chronically behind on things. which I am always chronically behind on things in some sense since I always have like 7000 projects#I'm working on at the same exact time and etc. lol. but like.. even more chronically behind than usual .. ToT#ANYWAY.. I'm suprised that the 'try to get a ride on the boat' option didn't get that many votes actually lol#Like.. treveling down a river in a tiny handmade raft is probably.. not extremely safe or efficient lol#But at least he gets to have lunch there. Just the hour that he's on the boat doing whatever will get him a lot further because the boat#is moving faster than his raft would be. It should still get him out of the river and back on track sooner. Because he still has a long way#to go to get to the abandoned castle. I know it's been a lot of days since I'm not keeping up well with actually doing these#daily or every other day - but technically in the story it's only been a little over a day since he left the Inn#The first day he just walked. the second day he saw there was a barrier in his path. then spent half the day building a boat. and now he'e#*he's where he is now. The trip is roughly 4 days and he's like.. a little over halfway through his second. Not counting any detours or#distractions he might run into. But at least at this pace he should be off the river before it starts to get dark#Thate the main thing. you want to get a good rest on solid ground. ideally. So long as nothing strange happens on the boat#but yeah! day 10.. of little elf man adventure... ALSO he is like early 20s I imagine. so he can drink hbhjbjh#I know the 'very quick simple ms paint style' is kind of chibi-ish so it makes people look young but he's not a boy#don't worry. I didnt want it to seem weird like some 10 year old kid walking into a party of drunk 30 year olds#like a toddler hanging out in a night club or whatever. It's safe and okay for him to be there. just for the record. lol#I mean maybe not SAFE safe. it's still a boat of like.. rowdy party goers who could easily fall over the edge into the water or whatever bu#but like.. safe in the sense that he's not a 6 year old being offered vodka by strangers at a party. etc.#despite his goofy nervous demeanor and chronic baby face syndrome he is indeed an actual adult somehow ghbj

Not Friends with the Monster | Marshall Mathers
masterlist
Tumblr media
summary: marshall’s daughter has a nightmare
words: 500
a/n: it’s 2009 in this imagine; his daughter is roughly 4 in this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was night time in Detroit. Marshall and you were fast asleep, the activities of the day before draining you. It was the middle of the night when Romy, your daughter, had woken from a nightmare, sitting disoriented in her bed as she contemplated whether or not to get up from bed and take the chance that the monster under her bed could tackle her. Marshall was no stranger to sleepless nights, many thoughts racing through his head as it took time for his body to adjust to his natural rhythm. These past particular nights however it was like Marshall had taken a trip to dreamland. He was sleeping better and finally feeling energised after waking up. However in what seemed the middle of the night, Marshall woke up to soft cries of Romy. Standing in front of his side of the bed, his daughter silently sobbed as she watched her father’s eyes open with a sparkle of the moon. Feeling the tiredness drain from him as soon as he saw Romy’s tears, Marshall sat up, pulling her towards his chest.
‘What’s wrong baby?’ Marshall shushed her, rocking her up and down, trying to get his baby to stop spilling tears. ‘What happened?’
It felt like his heart was a knot as he watched his baby girl cry, not knowing what had happened.
Marshall quietly left the room not wanting to wake you up and walked downstairs towards the kitchen where he turned on the stove lights, continuing to rub her back as her small rapid breaths with the sound of her sniffling slowly started to decrease, finding safety in the arms of her father. The rustling of the trees outside grew louder, the whistling of the wind grabbing her attention. ‘It’s just the wind, baby. I promise there’s nothin’ outside to be scared of.’
Romy looked at Marshall and started wiping her own tears, using the ends of her sleeves.
‘There’s a monster under my bed.’
‘A monster?’
Romy nodded, her teary eyes making his heart ache. ‘What’s the monster doin’ under your bed?’
‘I don’t know.’
‘You don’t know?’
She shook her head.
‘Maybe the monster was afraid of you and hid under your bed.’ Marshall said, earning a small smile from his baby. ‘Or maybe it didn’t wanna be alone no more. Maybe the monster had a mama but he’s all alone right now.’
‘The monster has no mommy?’ She sounded heartbroken, the fact that she could’ve upset the monster.
‘Maybe.’ Marshall opened the cupboard and grabbed a glass, filling it with water as he placed it at Romy’s lip. ‘Drink a little water, baby. Your cryin’ probably dehydrated you.’
Romy took huge gulps as Marshall held the glass before placing it by the sink as she was done.
‘You’re ready to go back to bed?’ He patted her hair down, unable to resist her cuteness.
She shook her head.
‘You wanna sleep with daddy and mommy tonight?’
She nodded.
‘C’mon little lady,’ Marshall headed towards your bedroom. ‘Let’s go back to sleep.’

Sir Robert Gadlen of Shere, Surrey?
So at one point for Giving Sanctuary and writing Hob in fics in general, I was looking for historical towns where he could have lived at various points in his life. Mostly (and to my increasing regret in Come live with me) I just eschew names entirely BUT there was one research rabbit hole I went down that was rather fun and made a good case for where Hob could have lived in 1589-roughly 1629.
In particular, I was looking for towns that were a workable distance from London, that is, close enough that one could reach the city for special occasions in a day or two using pre-modern travel but was far enough outside where one could have a sprawling estate. I wanted a town that was known for having Tudor mansions and, critically, I wanted it to be a town that had a river running through it for Hob's infamous drowning as a witch. Since I'm US not UK, all of this was educated guesses and I'm sure a native would find something laughable about my choice, but I eventually happened upon the town of Shere, in Surrey.
I had several reasons for why Shere in particular seemed a good fit for Hob's late 1500-early 1600s estate location:
The town is 25 mi/40 km outside London. Given the average cart speed was 4 mph/6 kmh especially when taking into account pre-modern roads. With a good horse you could do it in about a day's ride, with slower a more comfortable pace and breaks for water, half a day if you were in a hurry. It seemed the proper distance for a man on the rise in society like Hob would want to be, able to make frequent trips while still being landed with a country estate.
In the Medieval era the area was noted as being "one of the wildest in Surrey: sheep-stealers, smugglers, and poachers found a refuge in these remote hills. Some of the cottages have, still existing, very large cellars (excavated easily in the sandy hill), stated by H.E. Malden to have been "far too large for any honest purpose, and were no doubt made for storing smuggled goods till they could be conveniently taken on to London" (Source) - I was charmed by the idea that Hob would have known the area from his banditry days and that he in turn would be tickled by the idea of coming back to the site of his former ne'er-do-well stomping grounds, now with a purchased knighthood. Also couldn't hurt to know the area like the back of your hand (especially when on the run from witch hunters).
Shere is noted in the Domesday Book of 1086 which makes it old enough for Hob to have lived there then AND to this day it is known for its Tudor manors to this day which make it a popular filming location, with several Tudor estates and manor houses, one of which I like to imagine was Hob's during the days of his knighthood.
Here's a fun detail! "Shere has often been called one of the most beautiful villages in England; certainly few can surpass it in Surrey for a combination of those qualities that go to make up the ideal village… Shere is, therefore, the haunt of painters, many of them residents in and around, and samples of their handiwork may be inspected in the ancient Black Horse Inn." (Source) You can't tell me Hob wouldn't consider the town just because it has a Black Horse Inn, he would be giggle himself sick over that.
The River Tillingbourne runs through the center of the village. Particularly in Giving Sanctuary this was important to me because I imagined Hob being dragged from his estate into the center of town for his trial and drowning, for maximum dramatic effect, so I needed one close by that was deep enough to drown a man and sweep him away.
Now, there's one problem with Shere, which is that no witch trials happened there during James I's reign, which is when Hob would have been drowned...
... EXCEPT ONE:
"Despite James I's interest in witchcraft, just one case was brought before the Surrey Assizes in his reign, the outcome of which is unknown. There were probably others brought before the lesser court of Quarter Sessions, but the records for this period have not survived." (Source)
Perhaps since Surrey had no other witch trials, it was all the more reason for Hob to be "overconfident" that he had nothing to worry about? After all, what were the odds? And an unknown outcome, hmm, sure sounds like an excellent opportunity to fictionalize this as because Hob went back later and destroyed the records.
Anyway, this is the one town that fit all my requirements but in the end, I never ended up using the name (at least, not yet) in any of my fics. But I thought others might enjoy the outcome of my search!

Punk Princess
Ao3| Part 1| Part 2| Part 3 (Next Part) |Part 4| Part 5| Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8| Part 9 | Part 10
Eddie really was just trying to get through the day unnoticed by Tommy and his goons. He’d been prepared to spend his second senior year with his head down and his eyes on the graduation prize. So when he heard whispers through the halls about some ‘freak’ he felt dread coil in his stomach. He hasn’t even done anything yet, it was the first day of classes for shit sake and he’d been late getting in.
So when he was scurrying around the halls trying to find a pen in his backpack, glancing up at Tommy’s voice and spotting a literal punk god with Robin Buckley hanging off his arm he was a little surprised. But when his eyes tracked over the body of the other boy, he’s pretty sure his brain completely just turned off when he caught a glimpse of the face attached to the body.
Steve fucking Harrington in all his glory was wearing a cropped mesh top, and what looked to be a black battle vest. But that wasn’t the end of what the fuck was happening because his hair was shaved on the sides and his face, Jesus Christ his face, was painted with a black charcoal around his pretty brown eyes, and fuck was that a piercing in his lip? In his eyebrow??
Hold the fuck on is that a hanky in his back pocket?
Eddie’s pretty sure he made some kind of noise as he stumbled and spilled the contents of his backpack over the hall floors, scrambling to pick it all up while his eyes were still locked firmly on Steve.
He’s pretty sure Tommy had said something towards him at that point but his brain hadn’t even fully booted back up when he watched a determined look coat Steve’s face as he drew the other guys attention back to himself. Eddie couldn’t stop the noise he made at that pretty sure his entire face was tomato red now as Steve shot him a soft smile.
“They’re called shit kickers.” Steve offers, catching Tommy’s gaze. “Wanna find out why?”
And for fucks sake, no one, no one should look that attractive stating they were going to basically kick someone's face in, but Eddies pretty sure he just completely blue screened because the next time he was even aware he had a body, Gareth was pulling him away from the scene where a teacher had at some point stepped in.
Eddie noted with disappointment that it looked like Steve hadn’t gotten to give Tommy a demonstration after all.
“Eddie..” The tone Gareth took was a long cultivated one, used specifically when Steve Harrington was involved, and Eddie cringed before smoothing out his expression, he was prepared to go on a long winded rant about how jocks were apparently stealing the looks outcasts had spent years creating and getting ridiculed for.
He knows that's what he was going to say.
“Holy shit Gareth I want to get down on my knees and worship that man.” Is what ends up coming out, and Gareth’s face does a weird mix of disgusted and unsurprised, his brows twisting together.
“Christ Eddie.”
“Did you see him Gareth? I’m pretty sure my brain had to do a full reboot.” Just as they were rounding the corner to their shared first period class, Eddie's feet stopped working and he stumbled roughly into a very firm back. The head attached to said back turned around slightly with a startled expression that turned into a smirk and honestly Eddie shouldn’t be surprised his brain goes offline again, because holy fuck.
“You sure do trip a lot, Munson.” Steve's voice comes out with a well practiced boredness to it that should be insulting, if it wasn’t for the playful twinkle in his eyes as he turns around and faces Eddie, who’s being manhandled to standing back up straight by Gareth. Eddie can feel the snarky, playful reply on the tip of his tongue, his whole body alight with the fact that finally, finally for the first time Steve is talking to him. Eddie is only slightly ashamed to admit that he’d spent a few sleepless nights imagining what he would say if he ever got to talk to Steve. So subtle flirting is what he’s prepared and ready to throw out at him.
“Only if I can lick those boots.” Is what comes out instead. Eddie is pretty sure he feels his face explode, because what the hell?? Fucking get on the same page he shoots the thought to his brain and mouth filter as he pulls a chunk of hair up to cover his face. Steve looks startled for a second, before a slow devilish smile spreads across his face.
“I’m more into being the one that does the boot licking, but I’ll keep that in mind, babe.”
Eddies pretty sure he goes into cardiac arrest right there in the hallway.

A/N: thank you lovely for your request! I’m a mess and this is something I had written pre-S4V2 dropped, so there’s NO V2 SPOILERS. Be warned: it's angst with a happy ending.
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Female Adopted!Wheeler Reader
My headcanon for this is the Wheeler’s adopted their first kid, aka reader, so that way if you don’t share physical attributes – there should be none that identify any size/race.

You hated Fridays.
“Have a good weekend everyone!” The teacher’s assistant said, waving your class off. You packed your books within seconds, swinging your bag over your shoulder and taking the same route back to your dorm.
“Hey Wheeler!”
Forcing your usual smile onto your face, you raised your hand – waving at your dormmate as she walked towards her last class of the day. A car zoomed past, a familiar song drifting from its windows, hitting you in the chest. Your eyes blurred and you took a deep breath.
One step at a time, you thought as your stomach clenched. Within minutes, you were in your room. The entire suite was empty – all your roommates had the same late afternoon class tonight. The one day you were entirely alone. No one to keep an eye on you. No one to judge you as you walked over to your stereo and slipped in the tape you should’ve thrown out months ago.
“Hi sweetheart,” his voice was electric, familiar, and helped fill the void in your chest. “I swear you’ll like these songs this time, okay? Give it a chance! Stop rolling your gorgeous eyes at me Captain. I love you.” The words both soothing and burning. You listened, like the masochist you were, and sank down to the floor.
Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
Closing your eyes, you inhaled. If you tried hard enough, you could almost feel the wooden bar beneath your fingers. The smoke in the air, the smell of cheap beer and burned wings. The sound of the guys setting up. It was the same, every Friday, every week, and you sat in the same booth at the Hideout – every time.
A tear escaped and you swiped your hand roughly against your cheek. It’d been almost seven months. When would you move on? Wasn’t there a maximum limit of tears allotted per boy?
They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well

“Are you ashamed of me?” You asked him, voice getting louder.
“Of course not!” Eddie shouted; his eyes wild. “I-I don’t want to let anyone else in.”
“What does that even mean! You never make any sense! It’s been nine months, Eddie. Nine months and I can’t tell anyone about you. Do you know how that makes me feel? I can’t tell the girls where I’m disappearing off to at lunch – I can’t tell my brother about how much he’d like you, or my sister about how much I love you. I’m stuck! In this endless loop of hiding and I hate it!” You said, tears threatening to fall any moment.
Eddie, however, was frozen. “You love me?”
“That’s all you got from that?” You screamed, indignant. Grabbing your bag, you stomped out his room and down the hall.
“Wait, wait, wait,” he said, panicked, following closely after you. “I’m sorry – wait, Captain, please.”
“If you want to break up, just say it,” you said, heart feeling like it was going to burst out your chest.
“Break up?” Eddie tripped over something strewn across his floor. “What are you – sweetheart, I don’t want to break up.”
“Then why do you keep pushing me away?” You asked, tears falling. “You forgot our last two dates, you’re always worried someone will see us, you don’t call me, we only have this. Stolen moments and nights in your trailer! That’s not a relationship.”
“I’m not pushing you away, you’re the one pushing me away!”
Shocked, you blinked at him. “What?”
“I can tell you’re hiding something from me,” he said quietly. “Something happened last November and it’s happening again now. I see you with Steve Harrington and Jonathan Byers. You and your sister whispering in the halls. You looked scared - terrified – and you won’t tell let me help you.”
Your mind flashed to the tunnels you’d found yourself in a few weeks ago. To fighting Billy off as he tried to kill Steve. To launching your brother up to safety and wrapping your arms around Dustin and Steve as the demogorgons ran towards you. To Bob’s funeral.
“There, that’s the face, you look like you’re...haunted.”
“It’s nothing,” you said, reminded of the warning you’d all received from the men in white coats and still feeling hypocritical.
A now-familiar frustrated expression built and you winced. “I don’t want to tell anyone because I’m worried about what they’ll say.”
“What?” You sputtered. “You’re embarrassed because I’m a cheerleader?”
“No!” Eddie said quickly, making you jump. “I’m the Freak, remember?”
You sighed. “Eddie, we’ve talked about this – you know I don’t care about that!”
“But I do!” He insisted. “I’m so fucking scared that after a year, after loving you too, that you’ll wake up and realize that this doesn’t work on paper! That your circle of people will remind of you that.”
“Eddie,” you said, voice softening. “I wouldn’t – I’m the one who asked you out. How could you think I’d do that to you? I love you, you insufferable idiot. No one’s taking that from me, or you.”
Tumblr media
You’d only seen Eddie two times since your break up. The first had been when you’d driven down for Thanksgiving break. You’d visited a few times before, your campus was only an hour and half drive from Hawkins, but you had stuck close to your family during those visits.
A last minute, down to the wire, visit to the supermarket broke your streak.
You couldn’t find the cranberries and if you went back empty handed, your mother would have a meltdown. Panicking a little, you searched for an employee in the abandoned store.
“Excuse me,” you said quietly, trying not to disturb the silence. “I’m sorry to bother you but do you know if you have any cranberries left?”
The older man smiled softly at you. “I think you’re in luck, our rookie was shelving our last box two aisles over. It’s by the corn.”
You let out a relieved sigh. “Thank you, my mom was desperate. Happy Thanksgiving!”
“Happy Thanksgiving,” he replied, smile wide and warm.
Barely turning the corner quickly, you almost skidded into the shelves. Frantically, you gathered a dropped can of corn and put it back in its place. A familiar figure restocking the bottom shelf startled at your disruption. His head whipped up as you straightened and your throat closed.
For a beat, neither of you said anything. To your utter horror, you felt your eyes start to well up.
“I- um,” you stuttered, your voice cracking. Eddie’s eyes widened, pinning you in place.
Screw the cranberries, no one ate them anyway. You turned on your heel and made for the exit.
“Fuck,” you heard something crash, “wait! Cap – hold up!”
Not waiting, you dashed out into the street, careful of the snow and focused on getting back to your car.
Why today? Why? You cursed yourself for volunteering for the task. Tears blurred your vision and you fumbled with your keys.
“Holy shit I forgot how fast you run,” a wheezing voice said behind you.
Closing your eyes, you tried to school your expression into something neutral. “Eddie, I can’t do this. It’s – too soon.”
“You – you forgot the cranberries. Carl said you were asking for some.”
Turning, you almost stumbled at the effect of Eddie Munson in his full glory. His hair was a little longer, just as wild, and your fingers itched to glide through them.
“I didn’t know you worked there now,” you said quietly, taking the offered bag from his hand.
Eddie smiled, not unkindly, and ducked his head. “Yeah, well, someone told me to get a better job and I’m…trying.”
You tried to swallow around the lump in your throat. “I’m glad.”
“Listen, can we…talk?”
Shaking your head, you fought the urge to chew at your nails. “I think we said everything we needed to say in August.”
“Sweetheart…”
“Don’t call me that,” you snapped, the pieces of your heart breaking even further. Before you’d met Eddie, you didn’t know your heart could shatter so thoroughly.
He ran a frustrated hand through his hair, a familiar expression taking over. “You didn’t answer any of my calls, you just – left. How am I supposed to move on? You didn’t even…you didn’t even say goodbye.”
A familiar anger flared in your stomach. “You really want to start this fight? Again? For fuck’s sake Eddie, we’re bad for each other. Our whole relationship was built on hiding away and lies! You lied, I lied, we’d get so amped up – hook up, then pretend everything was okay! It was a fucking mess.”
“I never lied to you!” He insisted, like he always did.
“You did!” You clutched the bag to your chest, like it could protect you from the hurt. “You hid away from me, from us, and you didn’t let me in!”
“That’s not lying!”
“It’s not being truthful,” you shouted, voice echoing in the night winter air. “I-I can’t keep doing this with you. I can’t.”
Without another word, you slipped into your car and drove off. You ignored the tears that burned as they fell, dropping into your lap.
Sluggishly getting out the car and into your home, you felt numb. Nancy had paused at the base of the stairs as you opened the door. You glanced up at her and she frowned. She eyed your red-rimmed, swollen, eyes but said nothing.
“Girls?” Your mother called out.
Without a word, Nancy grabbed the bag from your hand and nodded up the stairs. “I’ll cover for you,” she whispered, squeezing your hand.
You’d forgotten that Hawkins wasn’t only filled with bad memories.
Tumblr media
“I can’t do this with you, I have to pick up the guys and get to the Hideout,” Eddie said, grabbing his bandana off his dresser, hands shaking.
“How many times are we going to have the same fight?” You asked, voice rising.
“When you stop lying to me! You don’t think I can’t tell something’s wrong? I can’t fix what I don’t know about!” Eddie said, running a frustrated hand through his hair. “You’re having nightmares and panic attacks – and I don’t know what’s wrong.”
“It’s not about you!” You screamed, wanting to kick something.
Eddie whirled around towards you. “So there is something!”
Your eye twitched and the fight went right out of you.
The love you felt for him was like being on a rollercoaster, it took you high, high, high but you always had to come down eventually. You didn’t know if the good was worth the crash.
“What about you?” You asked, slumping onto his sofa. The soft, used material was familiar to you – comforting – but now it just scraped against your thighs.
“What about me?” He grunted, sitting across the room from you, exhaustion etched onto his face.
Tracing the seam of the cushion next to you, you glanced at him. “You’re still hiding from me too,” you said, ignoring his annoyed look. “I know, you told everyone we’re dating – but you look miserable about it. What more do I need to prove? Nothing has changed. Why won’t you just let me in? After all this time?”
Eddie looked at you, his eyes tight at the corner and miserable. “That’s a tall order coming from someone who won’t do the same.”
Feeling like you’d been slapped, you let the remark hover in the air and realized he was right. What had happened – what this town had done to you – it’d changed you. And you couldn’t tell him why.
“We need to grow up – we can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different outcome. We need to change,” you said, looking down at your hands, “maybe me going away to college came at a good time. We can both…get distance.”
Eddie looked at you, stunned. “What?”
Inhaling, you stood up. “We need to take a break.”
“And just like that? Two years over?” His voice cracked.
Your heart felt like it was shattering. “What do you want me to say?”
“Do you still love me?”
“Eddie…”
“Please. I just – I need to know. After everything, do you still love me?”
“I wouldn’t be breaking up with you if I didn’t, Eddie,” you said, tears falling. “I love you but it’s not enough.”
He nodded. Without waiting for anything more, you ran out his trailer, rain soaking you almost instantly. Running towards your car, you unlocked it and were about to fling yourself into the seat when you felt a hand at your shoulder.
“Eddie?”
“Last one, yeah? I won’t be able to forgive myself if I don’t ask,” he said, eyes on your lips.
Biting back your tears, you nodded. Clashing together, you sighed as his arms came around you. His teeth bit roughly at yours, chasing you. He felt like home, like safety, like you’d never find something like this again and you didn’t want to go. But wasn’t that why you had to?
“I love you too,” he said quietly, breaking your heart further.
“I gotta go,” you said, “take care of yourself, okay? Get a better job. Try to study for an English test this year.”
“Yeah,” he mumbled, letting you go.
So you went.
Tumblr media
The second time was at the end of your winter break. You were at the movie theaters across town and despite what Mike had said you weren’t hiding, thank you very much.
Aiden had offered to give you a ride back to campus that weekend and you couldn’t think of a reason not to. Your parents loved him, because of course they did. Everyone loved Aiden. He was a business major, kind, called when he said he would, and was never late. He was an open book and that’s what you liked about it.
You had been enjoying your date, there weren’t fireworks but you didn’t need that. You’d had that and it hadn’t worked. Aiden opened the door to the theater for you and you smiled at him, eyes taking in the busy lobby. Freezing halfway through, Aiden bumped into your still figure.
For God’s sake, did this man have all the jobs around town? The tension in your shoulders didn’t go unnoticed. Aiden brought a hand up to your neck and gently squeezed. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” you assured him, voice hitching as Eddie’s eyes caught yours. His stupid Bambi eyes widened before he caught sight of the arm wrapped around your shoulders. “Actually, I’m going to go to the bathroom quickly before the movie starts.”
“Alright,” Aiden said, handing your tickets to Eddie. Without a word, you started towards the bathrooms and were stopped by a hand on your wrist.
“Do you want me to grab you anything?” He asked, nodding towards the concession stand. His blue eyes softened when you smiled at him.
“Popcorn? To share?” You asked.
“Sure,” he said, swooping down before you could step back. His lips landed on yours for a quick moment. It felt like it always did, nice. You liked the warmth that radiated from him. It was a simmering pot, a gradual build – at least you hoped. It had to be.
A splash of water and a stern talk to the mirror later, you walked out the bathroom feeling less thrown off. Until a voice to your left spoke.
“Aiden?” It said, tone judgmental. “Really? Let me guess, he’s the quarterback.”
Without missing a beat, you snapped back, “Do you think you have a leg to stand on, Edward?” Ignoring his jock question – because, well, Aiden was on the football team.
Eddie’s nose wrinkled at the use of his full name and you were surprised to find yourself fighting a smile.
“I saw that,” he said, eyes on your lips. Licking them, you’d ignored the way his gaze deepened. “Does he make you happy?”
“Why are you doing this?” You asked, closing your eyes and feeling suddenly exhausted. When would the string between you two sever? What would it take to stop feeling tethered to him? You were trying, fuck, you were trying.
“I don’t know,” he said, “I’m just – I want you to be happy.”
“It’s a little too late for that now, isn’t it?” You snapped, unable to bite it back. Eddie’s expression crumbled and you shut your eyes. Why did you both bring out the worst in each other? “I’m sorry. It’s hard…being around you is hard.”
“I know,” he said, hypnotic eyes coming back up to you. “I’m sorry too. For everything. For what it’s worth, I’ll love you forever.”
“Eddie…”
“I promise, I’ll steer clear. I just, I wanted to you to know that I’m trying. I’m taking school seriously – your sister is tutoring me in English-”
Wait, what?
“-and I’m applying to community college. You believed in me and I wanted you to know it wasn’t for nothing. I’m sorry it took me so long to get here.”
Nodding, you chewed on your bottom lip. “I’m happy for you and…I’m sorry too.”
Eddie’s eyes darted across your face, like he was trying to memorize you. Which was stupid, because you knew he had a stack of photos on his dresser of the both of you. And yet, you found yourself doing the same.
“See ya,” Eddie said after a beat too long, smiling half-heartedly, “well, you know what I mean.”
“Bye Eddie.” Your already broken heart felt like it was being ripped into unfixable shards as you stepped further away from him.
Tumblr media
A loud, shrill ringing interrupted Black Sabbath as you tried your best to melt into your bed. Ignoring it again, you turned the music up. If you were going to be pathetic, you might as well steer into it. Maybe you could make a thing out of it. Pathetic Sad Fridays – start your weekend off right!
After the third ring, you groaned, sitting up. Who the hell was calling you this urgently?
“What?” You answered, annoyed at the interruption to your sulking.
“Holy shit do you ever answer your phone?” Dustin’s voice shouted through the receiver.
Rolling your eyes, you fell back onto your bed. “I’m busy!”
“Are you sulking again?”
“No,” you said, voice not convincing at all.
“Are you with Eddie?” He asked.
Surprised, you sat back up. “No? I haven’t seen him since before New Years Eve. I don’t necessarily go around talking to my ex-boyfriends. Why?”
“Have you heard from him? Seen him?”
“No. Dustin, what the fuck is happening?” You asked, the familiar seed of panic growing in your stomach.
You heard Dustin exhale deeply. “It’s nothing, we’re handling it.”
“Dustin Henderson, if you hang up the phone, I’ll tell your mother how Mews really died,” you snapped.
His little dramatic gasp almost made you smile. “You wouldn’t.”
“Try me.”
A minute into his hurried explanation, you ran to turn your small TV on. Flipping frantically through the channels you landed on the news.
“The dead body is confirmed to be a Hawkins Highschool student…”
“He didn’t do it,” you said, your voice not wavering.
“I know that, that’s what I’m trying to prove!” Dustin hissed, frustrated. “I can’t fucking find him!”
“Language!” You admonished.
“Is this the time!?”
An idea hit you suddenly. “I know where he is,” you said, shoving your shoes back onto your feet. “I’ll call you when I’m back in Hawkins.”
“Wait – Wheeler – tell me-”
Hanging up, you grabbed your car keys, your bag, and ran out the door.
Tumblr media
You were sure you had luck on your side because the fact that you’d managed not to get arrested while breaking almost every speeding law – was a miracle. Maybe Hawkins was finally getting around to giving you back your karma. You parked your car next to what looked like Steve’s BMW and jumped out.
Jogging up to Rick’s house, you saw four figures banging on Rick’s door.
“Be any louder why don’t you?” You called out.
Dustin jumped, eyes wide and panicked until he saw you. “Holy shit, I think you gave me a heart attack.”
“Hey Harrington,” you called out, smiling when he smirked at you.
“Should’ve known you’d be here,” he said.
“How the hell did you get here?” Robin asked, coming up to hug you. “You’re almost a two-hour drive away.”
“One, you guys clearly took forever to get here-”
“-if you would’ve told me where you were going it would’ve been faster-”
“-and two, I was always the getaway driver, remember?”
“That’s true,” Max pointed out, hugging your side in greeting.
“Did you find him?” You asked, pressing a kiss to her head. “Rick keeps a key under one of these rocks.”
“Wait, look,” Max said, pointing to the boathouse.
The second Steve opened the door you immediately got a chill down your spine. He must’ve felt the same because you watched him grab one of the oars by the wall.
“Don’t worry, Steve has an oar,” Dustin said, rolling his eyes.
“He has a point, Dustin,” you said, glancing behind you. After a second of silence, the sudden loud noise made you jump so hard you stomped onto Robin’s feet.
“Eddie! Eddie! Stop!” Dustin screamed, his hands up. “It’s me! It’s Dustin! This is Steve!”
And there he was. Hair wild, skin pale, and eyes surveying the room with a type of panic you recognized.
Ignoring Dustin’s warning, you stepped forward. “Eddie,” you said softly, hand reaching for his. His eyes froze when he saw you.
“Wheeler?”
You smiled, his skin cold and clammy under your touch. “Yeah, it’s me baby,” you said. Steve’s eyes were wide and scared as he watched you reach for the bottle by his neck.
His eyes never left yours as you pried the bottle from his hand and Steve slumped to the floor. “Thanks Wheeler,” he mumbled, waving off Robin’s panicked fluttering hands.
“I didn’t kill her,” Eddie said, voice deep and broken. “I swear, Cap’ I didn’t kill her.”
“I know.” And you did. Running a calm hand up his forearm, you felt his muscles relax a little. You knew what it was like running on adrenaline. “Eddie, I believe you.”
“We all do,” Dustin added, shooting Steve a scathing look when he coughed.
“We just want to know what happened,” Robin said, walking slowly towards you both.
Eddie’s eyes went to the rest of them before settling back on you. “You won’t believe me.”
“Try us,” Max said.
Tumblr media
“This is not how I imagined seeing you again,” Eddie said in the darkness, leaning against the door that everyone had just walked out of. You’d volunteered to stay with Eddie for the night – both Robin and Steve shooting you knowing looks – and felt suddenly nervous.
When you didn’t answer he sighed. “Is that what you were hiding?”
You nodded, running a hand down your arm. “After Bob and Starcourt – that’s when we started really fighting,” you said, eyes on the wooden floorboards. “That’s when the panic attacks started.”
“Considering how I feel now and what I just saw, I can’t say I blame you.” His eyes became unfocused and his hands clenched.
“I remember her, I helped her learn her toe touches,” you said, remembering Chrissy’s kind smile. She’d been eager to learn and happy to do anything you asked. You couldn’t believe she was dead. Bob’s beaming smile flashed across your mind and you rubbed your eyes. “I always thought she’d make cheer captain after I left.”
Eddie snorted, a sad - and slightly hysterical - sound. “It seems I can’t stay away from cheer captains, huh?”
Your eyes darted to him and he looked miserable. “Eddie, I’m sorry. It wasn’t fair to pin everything on you-”
“We were both wrong,” he said, huffing. “I just – I want to be clear on something.”
“What?” You asked, adjusting your legs.
“I was never embarrassed of you. I was just, worried that we’d crumble under the judgement. I should’ve believed in us and…I’m sorry for threatening to punch Aiden’s face.”
You furrowed your brows. “You never threatened to punch his face…”
“Yeah, I was thinking about it though. Often.”
After a moment of silence, you laughed. You couldn’t help it – that was such a typical Eddie admission.
“You’re a moron,” you said, shaking your head.
“Yeah, well, you look better than the last time we saw each other,” Eddie said, pretending to dust off something from his jacket. “I’m glad he makes you happy.”
Nodding, you chewed on your lip. “I’m sorry you thought I was lying. I mean, I was lying but I’m sorry you thought it was because I didn’t trust you. All of this… it’s a lot to explain to someone. I’ve fought monsters from another dimension.”
“I would’ve believed you.”
It’s a shot straight to your heart. Swallowing around the lump in your throat, you shift your legs.
“Somehow, that made keeping it a secret harder,” you said, huffing. “I thought people were spying on us and then Starcourt and the Russians. It was a lot, I needed to process.”
“I get it,” he said eventually. “Now that I’ve lived through it, I guess, I understand why you didn’t tell me.”
You nodded, shooting him a grateful look. Something burned at the front of your mind and you tried to hold it back but there was no use. “Can I ask you an inappropriate question?”
Eddie’s brow rose but he nodded.
Fiddling with your sleeve, you avoided his eyes when you said, “Do asked – still love me?”
Eddie snorted and you had to admit it stung.
“Does earth orbit around the sun?”
After a beat, against your better judgment, your heart soared.
“I wasn’t lying when I told you I’d love you forever,” he sighed, dropping his head to the wall audibly, “in my defense, it’s been less than a year since we’ve broken up. I can’t – just turn those feelings off. I think I’ve been in love with you since middle school.”
“I miss you,” you admitted, your eyes closing as he darted his to you.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. You weren’t just my boyfriend – you were my best friend. At first, every time something new happened in school I wanted to call you and tell you. I’d miss you so hard in those moments, it felt like my arm had been chopped off. After a while it was the smaller things. I’d be looking at a menu and see your favorite meal. Or I’d hear a guitar solo and it felt like…”
“Like someone had dumped cold water on you?”
“Yeah,” you said, opening your eyes. “I’d get so mad about it.”
Eddie nodded, like he understood and you felt comforted by the reciprocation. “Every time I heard the cheerleading team practice, or caught sight of any of them in their uniforms, you’d come up. Whether I wanted you to or not. It felt like they were doing it on purpose, to be honest. I don’t think I’ve hated a sport more.”
“Aiden and I broke up.”
His brown eyes flashed to yours, unreadable. “What?”
“My parents loved him. My friends would tell me they were jealous because he was never late to our dates, he called me when he said he would, he’d buy me flowers just because – I mean, who does that?”
“I should’ve,” he croaked, eyes looking suspiciously red. “I should’ve done that for you.”
“He was perfect,” you said, ignoring his searching look and your wildly beating heart.
“So, what happened?”
“You did, Munson. You happened,” you said, shaking your head. “Your stupid wild hair, picking fights at like two in the morning over stupid shit, and your goddamn last kiss in the rain like we were in some fucking movie. That’s what happened.”
You sat in silence for a few minutes, your words sinking in. Glancing at Eddie, you saw him blink owlishly, his brows furrowed.
“I’m passing all my classes,” Eddie said eventually.
“Yeah?”
“I’m not a straight A student but, yeah. Mr. Williams said he’s submitting my essay for a competition. I wrote…about loss. I stopped dealing a few months ago and I got a second job at the theater. I stopped smoking two months ago,” he said, fumbling with the gum in his hand, “my jaw might fall off from how much gum I’m chewing but it helps.”
“That’s great,” you said, meaning it.
“I only met up with Chrissy because I could tell something was wrong. I knew you said she was a straight edge. I had some leftover stuff at home and she was…desperate. I was trying, I was really trying and then because I can’t ever have a fucking moment of life go my way for once – shit hit the fan.”
“You were trying to what?”
Eddie laughed, humorlessly. “Isn’t it obvious?”
You had an inkling but you needed to hear the words. “Say it,” you said, hearing the pleading in your own voice.
His brown eyes pinned you in place. “I wanted to do better, I wanted to prove to you that I could change at first. But, after time – I just wanted to be better. I want to try. For me.”
Tears welled in your eyes and you swiped them roughly away. “I never needed you to change, Eddie,” you said quietly, “I just needed you to let me in and you wouldn’t do that because I wasn’t doing it either. I loved you then for who you were and I love you now for who you are. I’m pretty sure I’ll love you years from now for whoever you are then.”
“I know,” he said scrubbing a hand down his face. “I hate that I know that.”
“Why?”
“Because look at us! You’re back because I’m a wanted murder suspect. Some fucking monster is using Hawkins as it’s hunting ground and your back at the source,” the look in his eyes broke your heart, “you’ve been dragged back to the place that made you wake up panicking and screaming. I remember the look in your eyes.”
After all this, he was still worried for you. “I’m not back because of the monster – well, I would’ve come back to help regardless. I came back for you.”
“What?”
“You needed help. I’ll always be here for you; despite anything we have going on. I promised.”
A beat of silence passed before Eddie groaned and you frowned.
“You can’t say shit like that to me,” he said, grunting. “I can’t – it’s not fair.”
“What isn’t?”
“How much more in love with you can I get? It has to reach a goddamn max limit at some point,” he said, looking up at the ceiling.
You laughed and walked over to him. Folding your legs underneath you, his hair brushed against your shoulder. You heard him hold his breath before exhaling harshly. As you inhaled, you faintly wondered if he could hear your breathing too. Slowly, giving him enough time to pull away if he wanted to, you reached for his hand. Interlocking your fingers, you felt the void inside you disappear.
Closing your eyes, Eddie squeezed your hand, like he was expecting you to let go.
“Hi, I’m Hawkins’ High ex-cheer captain,” you said, turning to Eddie. “I’m finishing up my freshman year at Indie State. I joined the tennis team, I’m learning some karate, and I’ve realized I really like to paint on the weekends. I don’t know what to major in yet but I think I’d like to be a doctor. Oh, I’m also learning guitar. I have a younger brother and two younger sisters. I’ve fought monsters from another dimension and am now afraid of the dark.”
Eddie’s eyes cleared, their signature glint returning. “I’m Eddie Munson. Town freak, I don’t sell drugs anymore but I can roll your joint pretty well if you need me to. I’m in a pretty decent band and it turns out I kinda like writing. I’m probably going to graduate this year and I might go to college part time if I get in,” his thumb caressed your knuckles, “I’ve been in love with a girl since we were stupid kids. She’s got a hold on my fucking soul and I don’t think I want her to let go.”
“Yeah?” You asked, turning to him.
His eyes softened, the gentle look melting the last bit of ice inside you. “Yeah, Wheeler. You branded yourself on me the moment we met. I wasn’t made for anyone else.”
Smiling slowly, you ducked your head. “I should’ve known you’d be a good writer.”
“Because of dnd?”
“Because of how easily you’d use your words to sway me.”
Eddie’s eyes burned their gaze into you. “Wheeler?”
“We can’t keep things to ourself this time,” you said, picking at the hem of your shirt. “We’ll crumble again if we don’t fucking talk to each other.”
“Are you sure?”
You looked up at him, surprised. “Why?”
His expression was serious, his eyes darting around your face and his hands clenched. “Because I’m not letting you go after this. If we do this, it’s forever. You’re it for me.”
Thinking back on everything that had happened in the year you were apart, you realized that yeah, you were sure. He wasn’t perfect but, neither were you.
Nodding, you surged forward to press your lips against his. Without hesitation, his arms jumped to your sides, his warmth encompassing you. Your teeth nipped against his bottom lip and he sighed, like it was what he’d been waiting for.
“Okay,” you said into his mouth.
Eddie leaned back and stared at you. A slow smile grew, his eyes lighting up as it did.
“Thank fucking God,” he muttered.
This time, you couldn’t help but laugh.
A/N#2 *S4V2 spoiler: I do want to say though, I have to take a little break for my own sanity lmao I’m dead inside a little and only just starting to crawl my way to denial (I'm still very much in sad/anger). I knew it was going to happen and yet, I’m still an emo depression puddle. Kinda hurts to read about him even in fluff (like literally looking at him in gifs makes me tear up lmao I'm pathetic.) So! I’m just going to be off for a week or so and then try to get back to finishing Firsts. Not sure if I’ll do a canon divergence version of S4 anymore, but if I do, everyone lives nobody dies because I accept nothing less! If anyone wants to wail/vent/rant about this boy or S4V2 in general, please reach out - my inbox is open!

I feel like I should have Agent headcanons if I have Splatoon OCs. so uh. yeah first pass of ideas let's go:
Captain 3: Any/all but leans they/them. Incredibly tired to the point where almost everyone says they look like a corpse at least once. Extremely burnt out after their agent days both mentally and physically so doesn't do much nowadays. Missed out on normal late teen/early adult years. Stays with the Cuttlefish family, who are more than willing to help them out after all they've done. Somewhat tall in a gangly way. Nonverbal and most people always misinterpret the looks they give as death stares.
4: He/him. Goober who tries not to think too hard. Has the default Splat2 girl haircut. Still helped with agent business after the Splatoon 2 campaign but never really did anything useful and so kind of just enjoyed the rest of their teen years peacefully. Big turf wars guy but passionately detests ranked battles. Not good at turf wars but still has fun along the way. Most talkative of the agents by a LOT. Very bad at keeping the agent stuff a secret but nobody believes him when he mentions it. Still really close to Callie and Marie even after not seeing them for a while. Somehow hangs out with 8 regularly and none of the rest of the squidbeak splatoon knows how they met. Still the shortest out of the entire splatoon, sometimes gets confused for a teenager but doesn't take offense to it. Probably will be less traumatized after Side Order than you'd think.
8: She/her. Settled into Inkopolis civilian life after reaching the surface and didn't really look back on the agent stuff. Acted as sort of an online celebrity to other octolings during the first big integration into inkling society. Naturally quiet but more talkative than Cap. Marginally above average height. Has put on some healthy weight since settling down. Not ready for Side Order.
Neo 3: She/They/It. Inkling. Splatlands survivalist that somehow happened to get roped in to the agent stuff on a supply trip to Splatsville. They thought it was a paid gig sort of thing and didn't get to ask Cuttlefish about it before falling into Alterna, and complained under their breath the whole way up to the end of that campaign. The most fit of the agents by a significant margin, and roughly as tall as Captain 3, though appears to stand taller due to slouching less. Kind of a sarcastic ass to pretty much everyone at first. Still doesn't like Deep Cut but it's for petty reasons they won't elaborate on. Tolerates the rest of the squidbeak splatoon. more or less. Considers Little Buddy an adopted younger sibling. Gets along with salmonids better than inklings and octolings, and can even speak their language. Wasn't allowed within 500 feet of any GrizzCo operations before the campaign for reasons officially cited by the company as "property damage, among other transgressions too numerous and specific to detail". Banned from the battle lobby tower for two years on account of violently whacking a 13 year old on the head with a tri-stringer. The kid was on her team.
Anyways I uh. wrote this out at like 4 AM and I'm just now posting it so people actually see it. Might draw these soon and connect at least one of them to the other characters. maaaaaaaaybe.

First Lines
Thanks to @mischief-and-tea-by-the-sea for the tag! 💜
rules: list the first line(s) of your last 10 (or however many you have) posted fics and see if there’s a pattern!
"I don't have nightmares when you're there"
"We should probably get some rest."
Bucky managed a lazy grin and an equally lazy nod at Steve’s words but made no effort to rise from the long sofa in Stark’s penthouse lounge. The tower wasn’t exactly home, but it was the place where everyone came to recuperate and get a warm meal, especially after returning from a mission. Bucky and Steve had only come back a few hours ago from their latest mission, providing some not-necessarily-needed support for Shuri and the Wakandans. Who knew stopping human traffickers could cause so many body aches? A slight shift on the seat to sit up and he knew there was definitely a bruised rib somewhere.
2. The Christmas Date
"I need your help."
Loki stared at the man in the doorway for a good five seconds, lips a thin red line and perfectly groomed black brows arched in curiosity. The man, a neighbor a door or two down the hall, was very tall and handsome, Loki thought, taking the time to look him over, lips turning up in a soft grin.
"Good evening to you, too, 9B."
3. "Sorry I'm late" from 100 Ways to Say ILY prompt list
Of the many duties Loki performed for the Allfather, at the bottom of the list was keeping watch on one tiny all-night diner. A favorite of his late mother’s, the Allfather purchased it shortly after her death to appease his mourning sons. Located in a less than stellar area of the neighborhood, it took Loki roughly thirty minutes to walk to it from his homey yet tiny apartment. He found it was easy to use for meetings, pickups and drop-offs, and the like. And the food happened to be better than one would expect, and Loki didn’t always have the time to cook for himself as he wished. Nor did he have the patience for baking, and the diner boasted a killer assortment of desserts.
4. "Take my jacket, it's cold outside" from 100 Ways to Say ILY
Tony watched the lights of New York pass under the small airplane window, for the second time in three days. He wasn’t supposed to be leaving so soon, but the trip out east didn’t go quite the way he’d expected. Ironically, the anxiety that had filled him when he boarded the plane in Los Angeles had eased away now, replaced by a strange sense of emptiness. And a broken heart.
5. "You can have half" from 100 Ways to Say ILY
Tony burst through the kitchen’s swinging door, nearly tripping as he stumbled to get ahold of himself and spun around to look back out into the dining area. People wandered around the large dining table, picking at the snacks, and pouring drinks. One half was covered with bowls and trays of food, the other with bottles and jugs, large and small, of various liquors and a few liters of different sodas. If Maria Stark succeeded at teaching her son anything in the short time she had with him, it was how to host a good party.
6. "I'm sorry for your loss" from 100 Ways to Say ILY
“How are they handling this?” Sif’s voice was soft as she approached Frigga. They were standing in the kitchen, Frigga watching her two grown sons as they greeted the family, friends, and strangers she wasn’t ready to face yet into the home she once shared with her husband. Her heart ached at the thought that she would be sleeping alone again in their bed tonight.
7. Take A Bow
Loki rushed through the narrow hallway, coughing to clear his throat of the makeshift fog that filled the stage for the final moments of the play. By the time he reached the haven of his dressing room, his neck tie was undone and his shirt was half unbuttoned. The hurried shouts and stomps of people working backstage were blissfully drowned out as Darcy, his new young assistant, quickly closed the door behind him.
8. "I saved you a piece." from 100 Ways to Say ILY
Tony was in a bad place again. Thankfully, Loki had been with him long enough to recognize the telltale signs of an oncoming episode, varied as they could be. And he'd learned, through no easy trials, how to care for his beloved, what to do and not do, how to get him to eat and drink even when he didn’t want to. Loki was only grateful he could handle Tony.
9. "Take my seat" from 100 Ways to Say ILY
Loki loathed the schoolbus.
If Odin and Frigga would just trust him with a car, he wouldn’t have to depend on Thor to get home. Or suffer through the indignity of boarding the bus with the nerds and geeks of the freshman and sophomore variety. He wasn’t the only upperclassman who rode the bus, sure, but it was still embarrassing.
10. "I dreamt about you last night" from 100 Ways to Say ILY
“I dreamt about you last night.”
Tony smiled softly, affectionately.
“I don’t know where we were. Didn’t feel like Earth. Maybe it was some far off, distant place you visited a millennia ago. A galaxy far, far away,” he joked halfheartedly. “It was beautiful though. I’ve never seen a sky so blue. I think the atmosphere was…I don’t know. Different? You were…”
He looked up, grinning wistfully, remembering.
“Your skin was blue. With these markings. You told me about them once. When the light of the moons hit you…it was like snow glistening in the sun. You shined.”
Ok, so I did more than one line. Sue me. I don't follow rules well sometimes. 😁
Tagging @ishipanarmada @rabentochter @qwanderer @bouncydragon and anyone else who wants to play.
xoxo

Tagged by @generic-sonic-fan to do a wip folder dive! But I got distracted from the task oops.
I keep all my stuff unsorted in notes on my phone, because I found that taking away the barrier to writing (e.g. my heavy computer) helped me to just do bits and bobs, here and there. Most of my fics have been written on the train to work!
But this. This is a name and shame. This is a graveyard. I usually do give things a name, so most of these would be the final title... alas. Still, writing this out has been therapeutic for me, and inspired me to maybe put on my big boy pants and delete some of these.
(Key: likely to be published in some form, may be published with reworking, very unlikely/ dead, n/a)
Sonic fics:
Team Dark folder:
Self care - a self care day for team dark (shocker!), likely going to be added to another story atp, because its not got enough of a conclusion on its own.
The Maria Celeste chapter 2 - written, but I hate it and I don't think people would like the direction this fic might take.
Road Trip chapter 2 - may be finished and published soon, n.b. it's gotten very trans.
Rarepair week - I was planning to play, but work is crazy around then, then I'm away from home, so probably will miss it.
Bat-bombed - rouge × lanolin. so close to being done, then I was like 'who gives a shit this is so long' and now I'm not so sure as I was that it's any good. Needs a bit of a shake.
(Wood)worm into my heart - belle × amy. This is cringe-cute, I'll sort it out someday.
KnucklesSilver one? - well its... yeah knuckles × Silver, looking at stars and eating bugsm. I'm worried I shouldn't be shipping Silver anymore because he reads so young to me in IDW I feel weird about the fact that I've written a lot of it already with all my espio × silver.
Refuge Company BEANBAGS BOOKS BLINK - shadow × blaze; in bits, going to be in bits if I ever publish it. Beanbags books blink refers to the imagined scene in my head that made me first ever ship these two when I was a child. I'm trying to capture it in a way that doesn't make me feel completely stupid!
Misc
Petal Soft Cont. - Outlined continuation of the Cyber Virus AU that isn't getting done. I wanted to explore Metal and Amy's relationship, how they feel differently about eachother, but I think this situation where Metal is quite madly in love with Amy who sees herself as a caregiver and would not want to romanticise Metal... is maybe a misstep. Not sure who wants to read that. Instead, I may continue the AU by visiting a few other characters effected and park these two.
Second-Place King cont. (And chapters 4 and 5) - this is ditched. I reread my own story and thought 'this reads like two characters who will have ill-advised sex then regret it', and now I don't wanna write it. They are adults in this, but I don't want to write sex scenes, and I'm not sure Fade to Blacks really work in fanfic - people either seem to want sex, or they don't want any of it, and it'd be neither so it's probably never coming back.
Heroism - atp this is the whole mapped out story of a 5 strand game. I've plotted it completely, and written a few scenes, but I really want to write it in script format, and it just won't get read like that, so likely not worth sharing. If I couls make it a graphic novel, maybe?
Robot Therapy: Orbot, Metal Sonic, Omega (court mandated), Metal Sonic Comes Back - these are all roughly pencilled out with their hooks/punches, but not really sure its interesting to anyone but me.
And, for an about me:
Not Sonic:
This Tornado Loves You - the real shame point, because this is a 90% completed and uploaded persona 4 fanfic that I just... dropped. I abandoned it because it was about a toxic coming of age romance which was interesting self-reflection for me at the time, but I'm now not sure if it was really okay to write that. And because of that;
Turning Yellow - the wider story of the above, abandoned for reasons of containing dark ideas. I am in two minds - on one hand, Persona 4 itself contains minors grappling with sexualising themselves and being sexualised, people killing eachother, going into the mind of a killer etc. But on the other hand, I got scared off from writing the protagonists as potentially vengeful and doing cruel and violent things. So the lesbian-murderer revenge fantasy will not be taking place.
Contests (Contesting Friendships when I published one) - Persona 4 folder of silly games they might play, got cancelled because of the above, even though it's not in that AU - I lost my nerve for all of persona while I was thinking that through.
Book Club - fire emblem three houses, basically retelling of white clouds but only taking place in a fictional bookclub that meets once a month. I'm scared that it's a huge cast and every character has to be exactly as written, and if I'm inaccurate it'll wreck the whole thing, so I keep restarting.
I do - fire emblem three houses. Wedding traditions. I wrote a whole powerpoint of different regional wedding tradition headcanons, and sometimes write stories to go with them. Likely never to be published, but I may put up the Hapi × Constance one someday.
Originals:
Somnos - Script, enormous. Coming of age, kids-save-the-world etc. Heavily influenced by how much persona had my whole heart as a teen. Its only about 50 pages of stuff I like right now, and it will be really long, because it would be a series of maybe hour long episodes (40 pages in script is about 40 minutes of screen time)
Kinship - a cartoon script thats got 1 season half written and the other half planned out and 2 more roughly sketched but not individual episodes nailed down. Also my dissertation from uni back when, always in my heart. Max, a little robot and literally self-made man, goes on a world adventure to try to find people like him. It's just a cute playground for me.
This isnt even including the ideas that don't have their own page/ folder yet 🥴 I swore I'd never be this sort of writer!
Might tag some ppl later in dms, but I gotta get to work now!

Scar's timeline
An interesting little guy who maybe endured a little to much. Here's a rough timeline I can piece together so far of what's happened to me from my memories:
Born into a pack of mountainous threatening wolves (more like a cross between mountainous and redwood tbh)
Raised until roughly 3-4 months old before the pack starting a starvation period where there was an attempt to kill scar.
Littermates that were also cogmol were slaughtered and scar got away since they had food for the time being.
Still being WAY to young to survive in the wild he was extremely lucky and ran into an adult wolf
This is where things get fucky between what is inner world lore and what is neomata for a bit. Scar was adopted into a regular wolf pack for about another 4~ months and made friends with henry (other alter)
Now an roughly a young adult for wolf standards it was apparent scar was not a wolf since he was getting a bit to large and also his markings were just not that of a wolf at all period.
Scar was chased off from the wolf pack (more confident this is all neomata from here on out)
From that point forward he lived a solitary life for a few years before running back into threatening wolf territory by chance and was invited to join.
He proceeded to slaughter the formas of that pack and became the leader. Rejecting typical standards for threatening wolves and started one of the most aggressive assaults of decimation in that area.
After being to harsh for to long he got checked TM other packs and eventually ran out of his own pack severely wounded
In that moment of limbo he was tranquilized (after a few weeks of being on his own and wandering around) and brought to a facility as a test subject for a parasite
He was infected which essentially killed him and the parasite took over his body. At this point the parasite believes its a threatening wolf due to the nature of how it works and retains all of scars memories believing it is the original scar.
Experiments, college students, and eventually a climax of poor security and repressed anger lets scar escape into the vents. A small sector of the facility is slaughtered by scar.
The parasite takes on the form of a threatening wolf again and hides with other threatening wolf subjects in a desperate attempt to escape.
The group of threatening wolves are clipped, de-fanged, and spikes are trimmed before being sent off to a sledding company since they were excess subjects no longer required.
Does several trips in the 'yukon' (basically the type of environment he was sent to.) As either a backwheel dog or front wheel, depending on the team he was either hated or severely hated. For good reason typically. His temperament was god awful and usually started fights to the death or near death.
He was passed between several teams for having behavioral issues and refused to start fires a lot which was a big problem for humans who dont want to freeze to death.
He was passed to a novice sledder who also had a poor temper and beat him severely. Scar was also appointed the front lead to break ground. Since scar is a parasite and not actually a threatening wolf at this point he could read some maps and understood the concept of trade at this point.
Upon recognizing there was a specifically long and arduous journey he waited until at the mid point to begin slaughtering the other sled dogs methodically. Ultimately leaving him and the sledder. this was a roughly 3 day accomplishment until they were the only ones left. With no supplies, no dogs besides scar, the sledder basically freaked out and killed himself by wandering into the snowy forest left to the elements.
My latest neomata in this timeline is scar standing in the snow with the harness on listening to the guy wander off. He is covered in blood and lashes but ultimately ok all things considered.
That's about all I have so far. It's a bit long. But i do think it's cool (?) a lot of events i notice are 1 to 1's of traumatic events in my life. Which I think is rather cool. I expect the neomata to expand as I age as a second writing of my life.

Discord Exchange Between Miss Mina Murray and Miss Lucy Westenra
Mina: Hello there! I’m sorry I haven’t sent a message in so long. Work got hectic for a little while.
Lucy: I’m not surprised, Miss Deputy Head Teacher! :) However are you?
Mina: Missing you! I wish we could be out by the sea right now, talking about our hopes and dreams.
Lucy: Talk like that and I’ll come down there, sweep in, and carry you off to Whitby! Not that you won’t be here pretty soon anyway, but it’s the principal of it.
Mina: Oh no, anything but that! XD I’ve been trying to expand my skills lately, too. I’ve been practicing html and learning more about photography.
Lucy: Oh, have you been helping him with that part of the blog? I had a chance to glance over it the other day – the pictures he posted from Hungary and Romania are so pretty!
Mina: Exactly! It must be so nice to be able to travel and see them in person… I hope we’ll have a chance to go together eventually. I was thinking of doing my own entries when I come up to visit. Do a bit of a Whitby travelogue that I could add to whenever it seems like fun or something interesting happens. It would be nice if we could each see the interesting things going on in our lives when we have to be away from one another.
Lucy: Aww <3
Mina: It could be a practice thing, too – observing, interviewing, transliterating conversations like a journalist. I heard you can learn to remember almost everything you hear in a day. I feel like I’m just sending you a wall of text now, though – I’ll tell you all about it when I visit.
Lucy: No problem! I love hearing what’s going on – and I did ask more about it. Lay it on me!
Mina: You’re too sweet <3
Lucy: You think I’m sweet now, you’re gonna get so many cavities. Jonathan when he gets back, too. It’s been too long since I’ve seen him!
Mina: Well, he should be heading back in a week according to the last email he sent, so you’ll have your chance.
Lucy: I can’t wait! Oh, I have to go. I have someone I need to go see, too!
Mina: !!! So the rumor is true? I heard about you and a tall, handsome, curly-haired man! Come back here this instant and tell me more!
Lucy: Nope nope gotta go! You’ll just have to wait.
Mina: Bah. The 10am bell just rang anyway, so I have to go too. ttyl
(A/N: This one is real different y'all. I tried not to totally screw it up.
Adorable nerds feel like the type who would use XD unironically in casual IM conversation. I might just think that because I do.
Getting across the same ideas in a MUCH more casual form of communication is interesting, while also having to make it look like Mina’s not just rambling over Lucy… Without taking away from Lucy’s later entries. @_@
Also-also, after a whole bunch of research on what a deputy head teacher does in the UK these days, you can consider everyone aged up about 4 years from where most people consider canon to be.
Also-also-also Mina’s not looking at dropping her job, but work-life balance is way more emphasized now than it was, so they’re sharing interests and hobbies and supporting each other that way instead.
I knew with Mina things would get much more complicated because of how VASTLY different things are for women now, so… I did my best. We’re going to “roughly correct vibes” at this point. XD;
this chapter was way harder than usual and i was already very tried from waking up to do a 2.5 hour car trip at 5am. I tried. I apologize if it is bad.)

Little Lion Man (.5)
Tang takes the kids to the zoo and surely nothing goes wrong <3
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 8.5 Part 9 Part 10 Part 10.5 Part 11
Ao3 Link
Tang was bad with maps, even on a good day.
Well– excluding maps of the Ming Dynasty, which he studied extensively in many classes and found rather fascinating– but that was the only exception. Plus– it wasn’t like he could really list where any of that mapped up in modern China so…
Yeah, Tang was bad with maps.
Which was why, roughly thirty minutes into this whole field trip, he, MK and Mei were already thoroughly lost and confused.
“Mr. Tang, I wanna see the monkeyssssssssssss,” MK pulled on his sleeve.
“I know, I know– I just– I thought they were right here, but this is just goats and stuff– I really wish these pictures weren’t so small,” Tang muttered to himself as he tried to examine the map.
“Nevermind the monkeys MK– The reptiles are right over there!” Mei pointed.
“Look, we agreed to see the Monkeys first, and then we’d see the reptiles at their feeding time, remember?” Tang reminded the girl.
“Yeah… but they’re right there, Mr. Tang– can’t we just–”
“That’s not fair though!” MK cut her off. “We agreed! I wanna see the monkeys first!”
"Mei, MK is right– we agreed monkeys first– plus don't you want to see them eat the spiders and bugs and stuff?" Tang tried to remind the girl again.
"Wait– did you said spiders…?" MK froze.
"Mr. Taaaang– you weren't supposed to let him know that!" Mei facepalmed. "Now I'll never get to see the komodo dragon."
"Oh MK– do you have arachnophobia?" Tang placed a hand on his shoulder.
"What? Why would MK not want Arachnids to kiss?" Mei asked and Tang turned red.
"N-no, no– arachnophobia is a fear of spiders and other arachnids," Tang coughed and explained.
"Oh– well then he definitely has that," Mei said and MK nodded in agreement.
Tang rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Would it help if I told you the spiders would be dead and are actively being fed to their predators so there’s nothing to be afraid of?”
MK shook his head. “They’re so creepy,” he shuddered.
Mei groaned. “See??? This is why I didn’t wanna mention it,” she crossed her arms and huffed.
Tang didn’t want to entertain this nonsense any longer, and so tried once again to study the map and his surroundings. They were at the Addex exhibit, which was near the sea lion show as well as giraffes and yaks and basically a whole bunch of deer-like animals.
As he looked around, it seemed the Sea Lions were to the right, and the deer were south, so if he went west… no, no that’d take him to the Zebras– well, if he cut through “Prairie Path” he could possibly make it back to the monkeys– though hopefully they wouldn’t get distracted by the candy shop in the middle of that path– UGH, why was this so tricky? And why couldn’t Pigsy be here?
He was proving himself. This was a test– a test that, like most, he didn’t study for, but he’d be fine… right?
“Mr Taaang!” MK suddenly said.
“What MK?” Tang sighed in annoyance.
“Mei ran off to the reptile room,” MK pointed into the bustling crowd.
“WHAT—?!” Tang immediately started looking for her, but due to this being a field trip, she was practically swept away in an ocean of blue and red uniforms.
“C’mon MK– let's go find her,” Tang took MK’s hand, but MK pulled back.
“Wait– but that’s not fair! W-we were s’pposed to see the monkeys first!” The kid repeated.
“I know MK, but we cannot lose Mei or else Pigsy will literally never, ever, ever trust me again,” Tang pointed out, and tried to get his hand again.
“B-but–”
“MK,” Tang snapped. “Do you want Mei to get lost or hurt?”
MK shook his head and looked at the ground.
“Good– let’s go then,” Tang successfully took his hand and together they stumbled through crowds until they entered what could only be described as the most humid building in all of existence.
“Mei!” Tang immediately called out, but nobody so much as turned their head. Tang rubbed his forehead and approached the nearest zookeeper.
"Uh– hi there," He waved awkwardly. "Have you seen a little girl in this uniform, with weird pigtails and hair that's finally starting to even out but still kinda looks like it was cut by a blind butcher?"
"I wouldn't say it was that bad," MK muttered.
"I'm sorry sir, but there are many students from Megapolis City Academy today– as you can clearly see," the woman gestured around. "Do you have anything more specific to go off on?"
"Uh… she wants to see the komodo dragon– where is that?" Tang asked.
"Ah, yes– our most popular room. Go down the right and you'll see a giant sign," The woman pointed and Tang nodded graciously before taking MKs hand and practically dragging him over there.
Lo and behold, there was Mei, standing atop the ledge staring intensely at the large reptile.
"Mei– holy crap– you cannot just run off like that-! You scared me half to death!!" Tang scolded and sighed a breath of relief at the same time.
"This isn't a real dragon," Mei frowned.
"Of course not– dragons are gigantic– not to mention they only live in oceans and rivers and stuff– and it's crazy unethical to trap a conscious being," Tang placed a careful hand on her shoulder.
"How do you know it's not conscious?" Mei asked.
"Well uh– it can't talk, like you or I," He shrugged. "Even the ancient dragons could figure out speech. Anything that hasn't at this point probably lacks the capacity from a– uh– scientific standpoint."
"Hmm… maybe that's why he isn't talking to me," she sighed and got down.
"Sorry Mei," Tang consoled despite his confusion.
"Whatever. I guess he is kinda cool– besides, the lady says feeding time'll start soon! Maybe I'll get to feed it some deer meat!" Mei beamed, meanwhile MK looked like he was going to be sick.
"Oh– I don't think that's how it works with kimonos– they're very dangerous lizards–"
"Well I'm a dangerous lizard," Mei crossed her arms.
"Mei– you are seven years old, and I swear to the gold star of Venus I am not having you die on my watch," Tang put his foot down.
"But you said we'd be here for feeding time! And it's gonna be soon– those stupid monkeys will still be there," Mei whined.
"Monkeys are a lot cooler than stupid old lizards!" MK fought back.
"Why did it have to be the day I'm watching them?" Tang looked at the ceiling and muttered.
"A komodo dragon could totally beat a monkey in a fight," Mei snipped.
"Puh-lease! Sun Wukong could totally wipe the floor with Ao Lie!" MK smirked.
"What?! Taaang-! There's no way that's true!" Mei turned to him.
"Ah geez– can't we just have a nice day you two? Monkeys and Dragons have very powerful aspects for their specific environment and circumstances– so how's about we accept the beautiful biodiversity of earth, and call it a day, hm?" Tang pleaded.
The kids stared at him blankly.
They then looked at each other.
"I bet I could beat you in a fight," Mei smirked.
"What?! I'm not a monkey!" MK protested.
"Aren't humans just monkeys?" Mei looked to Tang again.
"W-well– yes– but–"
"See? I'll totally kick your butt," Mei cracked her knuckles (or at least attempted to).
"Mei! MK! Can you please stop fighting?" Tang begged.
"Then tell him lizards and dragons are cooler!" Mei demanded.
"Mei, I–"
"You said we'd see monkeys, then lizards-! You promised! And I hate spiders!" MK was getting teary eyed.
"I know MK–"
“But it’s almost feeding time already! And he promised me that we’d be there-! And they’re dead!”
“Okay-! You know what–?” Tang took both of their hands and pulled them out of the room, out of the building and back outside. “If you two keep this up, then we won’t see any monkeys or more lizards, or any feeding times, understood?”
“B-but–!” Mei tried to protest.
“No– because you know what? You scared the crap outta me running off like that– and quite frankly, I-i don’t think I can let that go,” Tang crossed his arms.
“B-but I didn’ even do anything wrong!” MK cried.
“I-i know, MK–"
"What?! He was being a total meanie about lizards!" Mei gave him a look.
"Mei– please–"
"This isn't fair, Mr. Tang--y-you said– a-and I don't wanna see spiders– I wanna see the monkeys-!" MK protested as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"MK–"
"Oh sure, take his side," Mei mumbled.
"Young lady, that is no way–"
"I wish Pigsy had taken us instead!" MK suddenly shouted at Tang, stunning him.
"M-MK, I–"
The second the scholar opened his mouth, the boy booked it into the wild– just quick enough to slip out of Tang's reach and causing the scholar to trip onto the ground, hurting his ankle and hands.
"Wait– MK!" Mei called for him, but her friend was long gone.
"Ngh– cmon Mei," Tang slowly pulled himself up, cursing internally at his scrapped hands.
"Wait– but the–"
Tang shot her a look and Mei immediately shut up.
Tang took the girls hand and together they tried to chase after where MK had gone, but frankly the kid was a runner and with crowds this big and paths that winding, it was almost a lost cause in seconds. It didn’t help that Tang had tripped either, as his infamously weak ankles felt even weaker and he needed to sit after five minutes.
"W-well we know he wants to see the monkeys– so why don't we just go there?" Mei asked as Tang stopped to breathe.
"Because we don't even know where they are– much less MK," Tang sat on a bench and massaged his throbbing ankles.
"Why don't we ask an adult for help?" Mei asked, sitting next to him.
“You know I’m an adult, right?” Tang gave her a look and she half-shrugged. "Besides, if I lost MK and told an office, they'd call the school and then they'd call Pigsy and I really don't think he wants that right now," Tang rubbed his forehead.
"Is everything always about Piggy to you?" Mei asked in a confusing tone.
"I– no, of course not-! I want to have fun with you two, not just for him– you two are cool and nice and– gah– I don't know what I'm even saying anymore," Tang cursed himself.
Mei went quiet for a moment, legs swinging as she watched the crowd and Tang weighed his options.
Either go to the zoo's security office and report MK missing, getting him flagged by the school and turning Pigsys mood from bad to worse to awful, or believe that through whatever instincts MK had he was going to find the monkeys– even if Tang himself very much couldn't.
"I'm sorry for running off, Mr. Tang," Mei suddenly apologized.
Tang sighed, "Thank you, Mei, just don't do it again."
Mei nodded and scooted a little closer to the scholar, slowly resting her head on his arm, which surprised him.
"I… lizards are cool though, right?" She glanced at him.
"Of course, Mei, but you gotta respect what MK wants too," Tang shrugged his arm playfully.
"I-i know, but--w-well Mama and Baba used to take me to see the lizards eat when I was little," she looked at her feet. “The komodo is new though– and I– well I dunno…”
Tang paused. "Is that was this is all about? Do you miss your parents?"
Mei nodded slowly. "I-i know I shouldn't– that I have you and Piggy, but–"
"Mei, you're allowed to miss them until the sun burns out of the sky– it was a terrible thing that happened to you, something you might never truly get over, and that's okay," Tang wrapped an arm around the girl.
Mei nodded again. "I… I want MK to see the monkeys."
"Me too– I just feel really bad for getting us lost in the first place," Tang sighed. "Sorry you two couldn't get a better chaperone and group."
Mei just kind of shrugged. "No one else wanted us."
"What–? Mei, there's no way that's true," Tang turned to her.
"No, it is. I heard Mrs. Yang talking about it once. They said if we were together and by ourselves then I wouldn't fight Qiang or anyone else and nobody volunteered to have us except you because they don't want troublemakers who– run… off…" Mei's face fell as she realized.
Tang hugged her for a moment, before asking, "You wanna go check the monkeys first?"
Mei nodded and after Tang worked up the courage, they asked some of the zookeepers and made their way to the monkeys.
Lo and behold, MK was standing right in the middle of the interactive dome– and to Tang surprise, all of the monkeys were absolutely laser focused on him. They were jumping around, showing him rocks, and even attempting to reach through the dome to… groom?
"Does this… normally happen..?" Tang asked a zookeeper, who shook his head.
"Never seen any kind of monkey take a liking to a visitor this strongly– especially rhesus macaques," He said, stroking his stubble.
"Uh huh…" Tang agreed when Mei tapped his arm.
"Is it just me, or is MK lookin’ a little… goldy eyed?" Mei tilted her head.
"Mei, I'm sure it's just the lighting," He assured, though now that he got a look MK almost looked like he was glowing..??? Nonono, it had to be the light.
"MK!" Tang called to him, but the kid was too focused on playing peekaboo.
"MK!" Tang tried again, and one of the monkeys looked at him with a head tilt.
"Oh boy, we've totally lost him to his special interest," Tang half joked, but Mei didn’t know what he meant.
Seeing no other option, Tang walked awkwardly over to the interactive kid area, even having to go so far as to crawl on his hands and knees before he was next to MK.
“Having fun?” Tang asked with a small but smug smile.
MK jumped– bonking his head on the plastic dome, and causing a distress call through the swarm of monkeys.
“ACK– Sorry– I didn’t mean to scare you– though you did kind of scare me– so… even?” Tang tried to joke.
“I– y-yeah,” MK fidgeted with his blazer. “I-i– I’m sorry Mr. Tang– i just– a-and when you promised– I like promises– b-but not when–”
“I know, I really am sorry– this whole mess is my fault,” Tang sighed and MK quickly wrapped his arms around his neck, which filled Tang with relief as he hugged him back.
“I’ll never run away again– never, ever, ever!” MK declared, and Tang chuckled.
“I know, MK, I know,” he rubbed his back until MK was good and ready to let go.
“A-are you gonna tell Piggy?” He sniffled.
“I don’t know,” Tang sighed. “We can’t have this become a pattern, you know?”
“I promise I won't! Never ever for forever! N-no matter how sad or scared or angry,” He kept promising.
“Alright– alright, I won’t if you won’t,” He laughed a little and wiped a tear from MK’s cheek. “Now, how’s about you head out and you and Mei can swap apologies, alright? And then maybe you can let me make up for this whole disaster that is all technically-not-technically my fault by heading to the gift shop a little early, hm?” Tang smiled weakly.
“Oh– really?!” MK lit up and the monkeys hooted and hollered in excitement.
“Totally! Pigsy lent me some money the other day– plus he said he’d pay me back– so we can totally get something– anything,” Tang ruffled MK’s hair, which made the kid laugh before crawling out of the space and rushing over to Mei at such a pace Tang struggled to keep up.
“Mei-! Mei-! Tang’s gonna let us go to the gift shop!” MK beamed.
“Woah– cool,” Mei didn’t seem as excited (rich kid, go fig) but she feigned it for her friend.
“Ah ah ah– apologies first,” Tang stopped the two of them.
“Oh– uh–” Mei bit her cheek. “M’sorry I tried to stop you from seeing the monkeys and also said I’d fight you.”
“M’sorry I said lizards are lame and insulted your great million times great grandpa,” MK said.
“S’okay– you’re probably right from Mr. Tang’s stories,” Mei shrugged with a little smile.
“Not when it comes to underwater fighting! Monkey King sinks like a rock– cuz he is one,” MK said, and Tang nodded in agreement.
“Woah,” Mei’s eyes lit up.
“Alright you two, hug it out,” Tang laughed a little and the pair of besties instantly hugged each other tight.
“Can we go to the gift shop now?” MK asked the second he and Mei stopped hugging.
“Okay, okay–” Tang laughed, digging out the map. “The gift shop should be just on the other side of the monkeys so we can take a look at all of those while we make our way– does that sound good?”
Mei smirked, “Last one there is a–”
“Uh-uh–” Tang immediately grabbed both of their wrists, “–We are not doing that again.”
Mei laughed, “I was joking.”
Tang suppressed a laugh. “Yeah, not funny though.”
“Mmmmmmmmmmmm, it was a little funny, Mr. Tang,” MK pointed out.
“Why thank you, dear MK,” Mei grinned.
“Uh… no problemo, dear Mei,” MK grinned back, making the two of them burst into laughter.
“Alright you two– let’s go,” Tang said, finally letting go and thankfully the kids didn’t realize that it would be undoubtedly hilarious if they did decide to run off now.
“So why were those monkeys staring at you MK?” Mei asked.
MK shrugged. “I dunno. I think they just get me,” He grinned a little.
“With all the bananas you eat? Totally,” Mei snickered, and MK laughed too.
“I can also climb good! Up stairs, on cabinets, on trees– I’m a total ninja,” MK bragged.
“Oh I can believe that,” Tang laughed along, and MK had a little more pep to his step after that.
When they reached the gift shop, Mei bolted to the stuffed animals and started looking for something big (sorry Pigsy), meanwhile MK was more keen to browse.
“This magnet’s funny,” MK chuckled and showed Tang a magnet with a howler monkey drinking coffee out of a mug that said “I HATE MONDAYS”.
Tang snorted, “Is that what you want?”
MK hemmed and hawed before shaking his head and setting it down. “I want something that I can have in my room that’s– like– mine, you know?” He looked up at the scholar.
“Of course,” Tang understood. “Do you want a shirt? Or something like an action figure or toy or something?”
MK thought about it, eyes glancing over at the shirts before he shook his head. “Mr. Piggy’s got me lots of shirts and stuff, I’m okay.”
“What about a snowglobe?” Tang looked at one that had a bunch of dinosaurs lighting firecrackers for what was supposedly New Years.
“Mmm, I dunno I–” MK’s eyes were suddenly stuck over where Mei was, and when Tang noticed he followed his gaze to a long armed monkey stuffed animal– complete with a red hat atop its head.
“Ooo, you want one of those?” Tang smiled, but MK shook his head.
“No– I’m not allowed soft toys– makes ‘soft boys’.”
Tang furrowed his eyebrows, “That’s not true, MK– and besides, I’m sure Pigsy wouldn’t mind,” he gently reminded the kid of his new state of life.
“Oh–! Right! Yeah!” MK instantly lit up and ran to the plush, instantly giving it a hug test before nodding. “Yep– this is the one! I love it,” he beamed.
Tang laughed, “I’m glad you like it– Mei, do you have anything?” He called out to her and she hid her plush behind her back with a mischievous grin.
“I wanna get me one of these bad boys,” Mei revealed her selection to be a rather large dragon plush with quite the immaculate detail (which would of course raise the price– sorry Pigsy but Tang really needed to make it up to them).
“Ooo, what’s his name?” Tang asked.
“I’m namin’ her Jade– like the rock and color,” She grinned at the plushie.
“You know– Jade is half the size of you. Are you sure you’re gonna be okay carrying her around all day?” Tang pointed out.
“I am a big strong dragon girl– I think I got this,” Mei flexed one of her arms.
“Alright– but I’m warning you that if you’re too tired by the end of the day, I’m not holding it,” Tang said.
“Psh, I totally gots this, Mr. Tang,” Mei waved him off and Tang rolled his eyes before going to the checkout.
…By 1:03, Mei’s arms were tired of holding Jade and Tang was basically the certified toy carrier as Mei and Mk ran to get as close to the exhibits as possible, and Tang didn’t want either of them to get left behind or damaged. After looking around at leopards and gazelle and bears, the three of them had lunch and ice cream before it was time to head back home.
Tang was technically supposed to have brought the kids to the restaurant, but he did have a spare key, and the kids were pretty tuckered out, so Tang decided to take them home instead– shooting Pigsy a quick text to explain.
Tang was let right in, thanks to Pigsy adding him to his security listing, and in not too long, they were finally all home free–
Except Pigsy was there with Gatita on the couch.
"Uh… hi?" Tang approached and Pigsy nearly jumped out of his own skin.
"Hey-! How was the field trip?" He asked, and Tang raised an eyebrow.
"It was cool! All the monkeys loved me!" MK gloated, "And Mr. Tang got me a monkey!! I love him so much! I’m gonna name them Luanshi– that means pebble."
Pigsy got up and looked at it with a crooked smile, "Yeah I think it suits ‘em"
"Ooh, Mr. Tang! Show him mine!" Mei demanded, and Tang pulled out the large dragon plush from the gift shop bag.
"Wow– how's about that? She looks just like you," Pigsy snorted.
"I don't have a mustache," Mei giggled.
"Eh, more in spirit," Pigsy ruffled her hair and she laughed as she pulled away.
"So… what's she doing here?" Tang glanced at Gatita, who stood up from the couch now.
"I think I should get going now, Mr. Zhu– it was lovely seeing you all again, take care now," Gatita smiled warmly at the four of them before taking her leave, which didn’t help Tang’s suspicions.
Pigsy took a long breath before forcing a more jovial expression for the kids. "I bet you two little rascals are tired, huh? So how's about you go rest in your rooms for a bit?" He looked at MK and Mei who ultimately agreed and headed to their rooms to crash.
"So…?" Tang asked, a bad feeling forming in his stomach.
"Woah– hey now– it's nothin' like that Tang, I swear," Pigsy practically read his mind.
"Sorry, I– uh– I didn’t mean like that–" Tang rubbed his forehead. "It's just a little weird to see Gatita so relaxed– she's usually so proper it's borderline ethereal," He laughed a little.
"Yeah, well she was just helping take care of me after I- uh…" Pigsy stopped and rubbed a white bandage on his hand.
"Oh– did something happen at the restaurant?" Tang got concerned.
"Yes and no," Pigsy sighed, going to the fridge and getting a soda.
"What does that mean? Was there a bad customer– did that one lady come back? The wife of the inspector or the one who accused you of kidnapping? Either way, they’re totally gonna pay" Tang riled himself up.
"No– no, not like that, I–" Pigsy looked everywhere except at Tang.
The demon sighed. "Remember how I told you about… Sandy?"
Tang's face fell and he nodded.
"...that was eight years ago today."
"Oh…" was all Tang could think to say. His instincts told him to hug Pigsy, his fingers twitching to urge him on, but the scholar didn't move.
"Y-yeah, and I got a bunch of phone calls too– or maybe I didn't and I was hearin' things– either way I was set off and made a complete fool of myself by not even turning on the sign outside, or setting out the stools or whatever," Pigsy scratched his neck and went to the couch, where Tang followed.
"Sounds serious,” he tried to console.
“It was…”
Tang placed a hand on his knee. “How’d she find you?”
"She had apparently called me twice to ask if I wanted to get lunch or something to check up on the state of things. When I didn't answer or open the shop she got concerned and went lookin for me," Pigsy explained.
"Oh, well that's good," Tang smiled a little. "I'm glad you were taken care of– and sorry I couldn't be there."
"Don't sweat it– I knew what I was doing," Pigsy tried to laugh, but he just sounded sad. Thankfully this time, Tang listened to his instincts and held Pigsys hand.
"I'm so sorry," He looked into the deeply tired eyes of his– Pigsy.
"It's okay, she gave me a good talking to," Pigsy squeezed his hand, and Tang dared to sneak a little kiss on the cheek.
"I'm glad," Tang smiled a little as he saw Pigsy blush.
"Y-yeah– I… it was really embarrassing– I'm only half glad you didn't see it," the demon confessed.
"Do you need to talk about it more?" Tang asked.
"No… no, Gatita did a good job of getting it all out– I'm tired more than anything," the demon informed, taking a drink before stretching his arms out.
"Ugh, I feel you," Tang agreed, instinctively curling up to Pigsy’s side, which the demon didn't protest.
"They didn't give you too much trouble, did they?" Pigsy snorted and relaxed his eyes.
"Nah, it was mostly just me and not being used to kids– but I'm making progress I think," Tang blatantly lied.
Pigsy yawned. "That's good– Proud of ya."
Tang smiled cheesily as he snuggled even closer to his Pigsy and said, “Thanks,” as he too yawned.
‘Yeah, no problem,” Pigsy tried to joke off the thanks, but Tang nuzzled closer to make sure he knew it. Pigsy chuckled, before relaxing even further.
In a matter of minutes, the lovers were fast asleep without a care in the world for any peering eyes or sneaky kids– today had been exhausting, and they deserved all the rest they could get before acting like nothing had happened, which was just the way they liked it.

Pt. 1 , Pt. 2 , Pt. 4
Upon returning to your home, you swam straight to Sanemi’s alcove. Burrowing yourself deep into the sand for safety. Not coming out even when he returned and inquired about your day. It was clear to him that something had happened but you weren’t talking. He left and came back with food. Relaying that he had reported you to be overworked and in need of a break. That you had been granted leave and your pod leader hoped you recovered soon but to take your time and take care of your health. You still said nothing as you felt Sanemi burrow down next to you. You did, however, cling to his chest and bury your nose in his neck. Roughly bumping his gills which earned you a reprimanding hiss.
“Sorry” you mumbled out tiredly. The drama of the day finally sapping your energy and wearing you down. “I don’t wanna talk. It was just a long day,” you spoke quietly. He nodded and began to pet your head soothingly. Trying to calm you down as best he could. You fell asleep, waking only when he made you, forcing you to eat even if you didn’t feel like it. You weren’t mad when he did either. You needed to eat to keep up your strength and to stay warm. Thanking him quietly you returned to your slumber. Trying to sleep away the feelings of fear that your trip in the dark had stirred up.
Your dreams were troubled over the next few days. You rotated from sleeping with Tengen and his mates, to sleeping with Sanem, to sleeping with everyone. Just wanting to feel connected and safe. The group never pressured you to talk but their worried glances almost broke you. Almost, because had you told them what was up they would have fled to Gyomei and that would have forced your pod to move.
Even now you didn’t understand why you didn’t want that to happen. What you did know was that even if you were terrified, you didn’t want to leave the area. Your curiosity somehow still lived on even if you were scared of what had gone down. Instead, you kept to yourself and gradually processed all the information. You had gathered about him and his world. Albeit it was not much at all.
It was both a boon and a disadvantage that you were born with a dual nature. In this instance it worked and kept you from wallowing in your fears for too much longer. Knowing your psuedo family group was growing more and more concerned by the day. Today, you resolved, you were going to stop sulking and get back to life. While avoiding the twilight zone as you were calling it.
You gave yourself a mental prep talk and swam out. Back into the vast open waters of your ocean. A happy cheer escaped you as the currents gently glided over your fins and scales. You flared out happily and did figure 8’s. Swimming to the coral reef you had tended to many night ago. Deciding to pick up where you left off you began tending to the reef. Taking note of areas that looked to be falling ill so that you could let your pod healers know and they could come do what they did and nurse the areas back to health.
You were placing an anemone on top of a crab to wear as a hat when you were tackled by a large masculine body. “You're out!” Tengen cried. Rolling with you gently in the water. Earning him a quick bite to his webbed hand that ventured too close to your mouth. He yelped, released you and frowned.
You shrugged back at him and returned to your current task. Putting a living hat on this crab. Tengen hung around pointing out other crabs who looked lonely without a little buddy to help them out. Together the two of you made sure all the crabs in your section had little tentacled friends to help them survive. You high fived each other and settled onto a flat part of the reef. “Still don’t want to talk about it?” he asked nonchalantly. Peeking at you through some weird sea grass looking stuff. You weren’t sure what it was called. It was just really pretty emerald green and soft as hell. Your head shook no and he let the conversation drop. Your business was yours. He was just glad you were no longer wallowing.
You both lounged and bullshitted for some time. Him catching you up on what all you had been missing while you were in your reclusive state. New hatchlings were expected to break free any day now. Happy information the entire pod would be thrilled about. You trilled excitedly. Tengen’s eyes darkened with lust and he responded with a trill of his own. Gently gliding in the water till he was above you. Slowly he lowered himself on top of your body. “Are you feeling?” he queried cautiously. You leaned up and kissed him confidently. Pulling his face closer. Teeth clinking and tongues mashing as you both desperately tried to claim dominance in the kiss.
You were forcefully separated by a distraught looking Sanemi who had interrupted y’alls activity by physically pushing you both apart at the middle. He looked apologetic but that was quickly replaced with worry. “That thing was recently sighted nearby. It’s not moving closer but it’s circling. Gyomei wants everyone to retreat to shelter.” He relayed distressed. Both you and the silver haired siren sobered up immediately. Your trio headed towards your cave with haste. Inside your gut you had a weird feeling telling you not to retreat and to seek out the creature instead. Deep down you knew this was a bad idea but you hadn’t been listening to the sensible side of yourself so far so why start now?
You peeled off and dashed away from your companions towards the direction of the shelf. The other two yelling behind for you to stop and asking if you were crazy. Your bond with them meant they would follow and capture you if you didn’t get away so you put your all into streaking across the reef till you got to the edge. The advantage of surprise did you well as you did make it to your destination before they caught up. Unfortunately for you, your senses had been so focused on evading them that you had swam out just a little bit too far.
You looked back and realized you had fucked up again when you saw them stop and panic covered their features. Their hands outstretched towards you but they made no move to go forward. Turning your head to face front, you were greeted with the excited face of the mer who had dragged you into that horrific darkness some time ago. You awkwardly waved hi and floated there dumbly, cursing your gut feelings but trusting they had not led you astray. You held your body as still as you could as the red menace looked your over.
He advanced on you and for once you could see his entire body. He was built like a serpent. A long continuous dorsal fin ran the length of his body. It looked fragile but you had a feeling the barbed tips that jutted every 3m out were pretty sturdy and not for show. You had expected him to have more of a paddle like form of propulsion like an eel based on what you had seen below but were surprised to find that he had a gigantic (compared to yours) lunate tail that had serrated edges. Tapering off into feathery looking, chiffon like webbing. His golden scales ran across his body in a way that made it look like light dancing off the red. He was so hypnotizing to watch.
Dumbly you swam closer till you could touch a part of his massive length. You heard 2 shocked gasps behind you and a pleased hum from somewhere around you. The predator’s body languidly coiled around you halting all your movements and trapping you within the tight rings he was making around your being.
“You stopped coming.” the owner of the body scolded. “Where did my brave little fish go? Was she scared off by the things that lurk beneath? That didn’t seem to bother her before.” His upper body came into your view as he rested his arms and head on a ring close to your chest. “Why did you disappear, little fish?” He asked you, an undercurrent of warning in his words.
You avoided his gaze and refused to speak. How dare he as you such bullshit questions!! He knew damn well what he had done and you were not going to give in! One of his clawed hands forcefully grabbed your face and turned it back so you had no choice to look at him. You heard your friends hiss with rage which was cut off by a quick, murderous glance from your captor. “Who are these two to you?” your potential executioner asked. You weren’t sure what his intentions were now. “Uhhh....it’s complicated.” you supplied not wanting to confirm or deny anything with the monster that held you. He growled bared and his teeth at you.
Your anger flared at him and you returned the display of dominance as best you could. His disposition changed and he smirked. “Do the thing you did before.” he ordered. “What thing?” you asked him. “The thing from here.” He poked your throat none too gently with a lightly, red scaled finger. You blinked and did nothing.
“I have no idea what you are talking about but don’t poke me again or I’ll eat your finger.” you threated him. He trilled happily and poked you again. So, you bit him. Hard enough to draw blood but you didn’t consume or separate his digit. “You’re liar, little fish. You said you would eat me.” he purred out happily. You spat his blood back at him in the water and narrowed your eyes in fury.
“Fuck you. Stop being evasive. Why are you here and what the fuck do you want?” you demanded. His eyes lit up even more. At this point there was no doubt in your mind that your defiance excited him and piqued his curiosity. Probably the only reason you still lived. Yay for the duality of your nature. It got you in trouble but it was also your saving grace, sometimes. That was pretty fucked up if you thought about it.
“Make the noise you did with us before.” he commanded again. You dumbly went “Uhhhhhhhhh....no clue” and shrugged as much as you could. You heard muffled whispering behind and took it that your friends were trying to figure out what was going on. You didn’t have long to ponder these thoughts before the creature holding you quickly switched his outward presenting emotion. Now he looked predatory and malicious. You began to coo to pacify him an instinctual thing. Once you began, he stopped his aggressive display and pulled you to him with his arms. Releasing you from his wrappings. “Keep going,” he demanded with authority in his voice.
You did as you were instructed. And watched with curiosity as his lids began to settle and he relaxed. Pulling you flush against him. Wrapping you up with his massive pelvic fins that had tiny barbs on them. They bit into your flesh but not painfully. Instead, you felt a gently, soothing euphoria. “Am I being drugged?” you wondered aloud.
“Mmm, unexpected yet pleasant side effect. Normally it’s used to disorient but you seem to be flushing instead.” he supplied. “So yes,” you finished for him. He shook his head no. “That wasn’t my intent. I was trying to be careful but it seems I’ll need to try harder next time. I accidently nicked you.” he supplied sounding somewhat apologetic. “Next time!?” You and your friends asked. The Leviathan glared at your companions then leaned into you and nuzzled you. “I thought it would have dawned on you by now. You’re mine, little fish.” he murmured against your gills.
Your brain came to a screeching halt. “The fuck!? I belong to nobody. You can back that shit up right now.” The men behind you agreed and you felt the mer holding you stiffen. “You reject me then?” he asked you. Voice betraying nothing.
It was in this moment that the brain cell the three of you, Sanemi, Tengen and yourself shared began to work. The Leviathan had not killed you and you had met up a few times. The Leviathan had left its domain not once but twice to seek you out. It wasn’t being aggressive as all three of you had been raised to assume. If you really thought about it then to a normal Siren this would look like the awkward fumbling of an adolescent trying to entice a potential mate.
Collectively Tengen, Sanemi and yourself shook your heads. The wrong action as the mer that held you growled deeply. “Shhh, I was thinking.” you snapped at him. Earning you a few “Oh’s” from tweedle dee and tweedle dum. “What do you mean by rejecting you? I don’t remember ever starting anything with you.” Flippant as always you sassed him. He pulled back and stared at you incredulously. “Then what have you been doing this entire time.” he questioned. “Trying to figure out what the fuck you are. Like I know what you are but why are you like this?” you pushed off him and motioned to his entire being.
Slowly and carefully, you fanned yourself back to you friends. The serpent like man moving along with you. “I wasn’t the one who started this game. You did by coming back and teasing me. Dancing just out of my reach to prove your finesse and capabilities.” You raised your hands in a “what the fuck” motion. “I was trying to inspect you without getting too close.” He grumbled and grabbed your hips. Pulling you against his. “You didn’t fight me when I pulled you close. Instead, you made that noise.” Behind you the peanut gallery snickered. This situation was ridiculous.
“Woah, there buddy, it seems we have had a serious miscommunication. I was being young and dumb checking out the new bad boy on the reef. I’m not sure what the custom is for y’all but that doesn’t really mean a lot besides I have questionable judgement.” You heard Tengen mock you and raised your hand to flip him off. The Leviathan halted your movement and gazed into your eyes. “That doesn’t answer my question. Do you reject me?” You didn’t reply. Instead, you arched your back so you could look at the other two, albeit upside down. You had expected them to look frantic or have morbid curiosity. Instead, they looked irritated as fuck.
“Little fish, I am waiting.” the large creature holding you spoke bringing him back to the forefront of your mind. “Uhuh, I’m thinking.” you shushed him. Your response earning you dark glares from your two compatriots. “You’re jealous!” you blurted out looking at their faces. The mer holding you gazed over at them and smiled. “Complicated?” he snarkily asked.
The two smaller males flipped him off and focused their angry eyes on you. “You can give him a fucking response but not us?” Sanemi spat out. You cringed and Tengen nodded in agreement. “I understand that the circumstances are different but it’s still fucked up. You said before that it was because things felt off. But that doesn’t seem to be an issue now.” he accused aloud. You cringed again and panicked. Speaking quickly, you attempted to defend your actions. “The circumstances do matter. First off, this dude can eat me.” The Leviathan began to snicker loudly.
You side eyed him then returned your gaze to your partners. “Second of all it’s true. It felt weird. Like something was missing.” you reaffirmed. Three pairs of eyes widened at your admission. Your face was tilted back to the large mer holding you. A pleased sneer on his face “So you do accept. You said -felt-” the Leviathan started. “That is past tense.” The blonde and red headed man was cut off by the white haired-green tailed siren male nearby.
You thought over the words you just said and realized that you had indeed implied acceptance. “Uh...oh shit. Shiiit. Nooo. No? Nooo. Fuuuuck.” you rambled to yourself. The Leviathan released you and laughed heartily. “You accepted me before you even realized it yourself. Impressive.” he wove himself into a giant infinity sign. “Stupid but impressive.” he chuckled to himself.
Sanemi and Tengen swam forward, confident they would be safe now. “Buuut I don’t..” You started up again and were hushed by Sanemi. “Before when you thought about announcing us as mates you said things felt incomplete.” Tengen started. You nodded. The red mer still making his loops, lazily. “Think about it again but include that thing.” Sanemi pointed to the creature sneering. You spun in a circle while you thought. Realizing the tilted feeling you had wasn’t present when you added all three men into the picture. “Aww shit.” You hissed. “Nooooo,” you whined. “I don’t understand. I don’t even know its name.” you lamented turning into a limp noodle.
“Kyōjurō, and I am a he, not an it.” he spoke suddenly behind you. The two pale headed mers whistled and shook their heads at you. “Not going to question it but, you know we need to report your activities and this development to Gyomei now.” they said simultaneously. You bit your lip and nodded. “The one in charge?” Kyōjurō inquired. “Mmm, kinda. He’s just the biggest and has natural leadership so we follow him willingly.” you informed him. His arms wrapped around you again. “Then let’s go see him. It seems I will need to declare my intent to have you as my mate with him.” he commented flatly. The other two males coughed and glared at him.
“Hey, new guy, settle down. There is three of us. Not just you. We were here a long time before you.” Tengen defended himself and Sanemi. “All three of you shut up. I am still processing this.” You groaned out. Wrapping your arms against the Leviathan’s neck. “Let’s go get this shit over with so I can die of embarrassment in peace.” You lamented. The three men growled at you unanimously.
“I don’t mean it like that. Just shut up and go.” you ordered. The Leviathan holding you complied with a head nod and set off gliding through the water with ease. Following the two smaller Sirens in front. Occasionally he would glance down at you, laugh and then smirk. The situation amused him to no end. When he laughed the water would vibrate around his mass. And action that reminded those present that were sirens just how powerful the creature now swimming and holding you actually was.
As you got closer to pod territory he stopped abruptly. His tail shot out and blocked the other two from their path. “I had an idea.” He drawls. You look over at your friends and shrug. You have no idea what is going on. He peels away and swims around the reef. He looks frustrated and annoyed until he finds a dark cavern that appears to be fairly deep. He hums happily and swims inside. The other two join you both warily.
“Perfect.” You are released and he swims up to the top of the cave and rests on the ceiling. His massively long body stretched across roof of the cavern and trailing down of the walls. A true giant of the deep. Tengen and Sanemi swim up next to you and the three of you stare up at Kyōjurō. “Sooo, are you gonna tell us why we are in here?” you ask boldly.
Kyōjurō snatched a passing fish and at it slowly. Ignoring you. Tengen and Sanemi looked at each other confused and trying to make sense of what was going on. Kyōjurō’s dorsal fin began to ripple. Your eyes were drawn to the movement and once again your dumbass started to glide through the water to him. He trilled happily and detached his upper torso from the cave ceiling. You swam closer as he dropped down slowly and swimming around you. Showing off his massive length and the power that came with being what he was.
The other males snapped their fingers simultaneously as they realized the intent behind coming here. They joined Kyōjurō in displaying off their physiques and agility. The Leviathan was pure power. He was beautiful and daunting. Allowing you to touch and feel his muscled torso and lower, serpentine half as you pleased.
Tengen slid up behind you. You were familiar with his and Sanemi’s bodies and they were familiar with yours. The large silver and purple mer’s hands slide up and fondled your breasts, tugging gently at your nipple, causing you to gasp. He traces his tongue up your neck and your eyes flutter as you arch against him. Sanemi guided you to his mouth and began to kiss you. You wrapped your hand around his neck and applied pressure. He growled, biting your lower lip. “Behave” he commanded. “Make me” you rebutted. Kyōjurō paused above you and turned your head towards him. “Easily done, little fish.” he purred. His eyes drew you in and you found yourself relaxing into their depths.
All of your fins fanned out and fluttered about in a rather attractive display. Tengen trailed his fingers down to play at your abdomen. Gentle, soft caresses enticed your senses and arousal beings to spark within your body. The platinum haired siren’s warm tongue ran up your neck, the slick muscle caressing your gills. Sanemi watched impressed. The smaller male siren in front of you sunk down so he was level with your chest and began to suck on your breasts, swirling his tongue around your areola sensually then biting softly as your tail thrashed about. Normally Tengen would be the one to halt your movements but this time it was Kyōjurō’s massive length that held you physically while his eyes kept your mind captive.
Kyōjurō grabbed your face and began to kiss you with a fervent passion. Your mewls and purrs turned into moans as they bombarded all your senses. Showing you their beauty, grace and strength. That they could and would care for you. Wanted to please you. Your body relaxed with their ministrations. Eyes closed as you enjoyed the feeling of their hands and scales rubbing against your body. A pair of familiar pelvic fins brought you closer and aligned itself with your cloaca’s opening.
Your eyes opened into slits as you try to see whether it was Sanemi or Tengen. You saw Sanemi and felt his hands caress your jaw. He tilted his head asking silent permission while giving a tentative push towards you. You allowed him access and opened up for him. You felt his dual penises slide into you and let out a high-pitched whine of joy as you feel him traverse through you. Tengen held you in place to keep you from floating off and Kyōjurō limited your tail thrashing so you wouldn’t propel your group in a random ass direction.
Sanemi slowly pumped into you. He was more passionate and intimate with his affections. The slow kind of torturous love making that drove you insane with pleasure. Nipping at your jaw or tracing loving patterns across your flesh while fucking you senseless. Kyōjurō would sometimes hum or ask for your input on what felt good, how you were feeling. Tengen was overstimulating your touch receptors with his pelvis and other anterior fins. Feathering your body and grinding against your scales.
Your eyes closed again as you let yourself go. Losing yourself in the all the sensations bombarding you at once. Sanemi bit your neck where your jaw met as he came inside of you. Holding you in place and coaxing submission out of you. Your body stilled completely as instinct took over and demanded your compliance. You rode out the waves of your own orgasm, that had hit at some point during his own, closing your eyes again and purred. Sanemi pulled out with a happy chirp and was quickly replaced by Tengen’s massive penises.
The larger of the two male Sirens wasted no time pile-driving you with his two hard, ridged appendages eliciting a yelp from you. Sanemi used his body to brace the two of you as the other mer jackhammered into your opening. Not even giving you the time to catch your breath. You opened your mouth to moan and he pushed two fingers in. “Suck” he commanded. You moaned around the digits and complied. Going down on them like they contained the most delicious nectar. Your tails entwined, Kyōjurō having released you when your partners had swapped. Watching curiously and making mental notes what set you off.
Tengen whispered the dirtiest shit he could imagine into your ear. Sanemi joining in, mildly degrading you about your enthusiasm to comply to the Tengen’s demands. Teasing you with the prospect of sucking off something else once he had recovered. You came again from their words alone. Shuddering from the constant stimulation and pulling the Silver-haired siren deeper into you. Your canal pulsates and desperately tries to milk him for all he has.
Tengen stubbornly held out until he felt Sanemi fingers caressing your opening and lightly graze one of, his penises. He grabbed your jaw harshly and planted a bite on the opposite side that Sanemi had. Once his fingers are removed from your mouth, you emitt a noice that sounds like a groan and a whine together as you mourned the loss of his fingers but relishing the feeling of his claws raking down your hips. The larger male siren releases you and floats away a few meters. Deeply breathing and eyeballing you hungrily.
This wasn’t your first rodeo with them. You knew that given the chance; they would both devour you until you were unable to move at all. However, in your fucked out state you had forgotten there was another member present. His presence was thrown into the forefront of your mind as he sidled up in front of you and aligned himself with you being. Now the fear and desire for/of the unknown began. He looked you over as he wrapped part of his serpentine body around your tail again. Aligning himself with your opening that was currently seeping out semen from the other two men.
Kyōjurō paused as he started to wrap his barbed fins around you then pulled back. “Our mating practices are different.” He stated with desire filling his voice. You opened up your eyes and stared at him. “Fucking is fucking.” you scolded him, lust driven into aggression. Kyō shook his head, put his hands on your shoulders and forced you to be still and pay attention to him. “No, it’s not. Your species is docile in attitude and while physically we are compatible. Very, very compatible.” he emphasized compatibility by hungrily devouring your body with his eyes. “It’s the other things...” he trailed off looking away from you. Tengen and Sanemi perked up and swam around the both of you watching, intrigued and most importantly of all, nosy as fuck.
Your mind was focused on sex and you did not want to hear this bullshit. Even though your mind was pretty sure what Kyōjurō had to say was important. Listening to the Leviathan would have been the smart thing to do. Instead, you grabbed his throat, bared your fangs and gave him your most intimidating snarl of aggression. He shut up quickly and faced you. Looking beside himself with excitement. His pelvis began to undulate against your body. “Fuck. Me. Now. Bitch.” you commanded.
You did not have to tell him twice. He complied immediately and slipped his two cocks into your slit, stretching you the fuck out to perfection. Initially it was uncomfortable because he had just slid inside with one thrust instead of allowing a gradual adjustment. But then you felt the sharp barbs of his pelvic fins wrapping you up and the euphoric sensation kicked in causing your mind to reel in pleasure. “Just to ease you up. You were clenching rather hard,” he ground out with his eyes closed.
Your body was tight as hell around him. You just barely fit around his genitals, but the restrictive squeezing was sending him. Kyōjurō leaned back and pulled you on top of him. Thrusting up into you, while also giving the other males free access to you if they wanted. Otherwise, they could watch the show.
With them you were compliant and sometimes bratty. With him you were dominate as hell and it excited both Sanemi and Tengen. Who the hell was this Siren and where had she come from? You were choking the only creature in the sea that could challenge you. Not only that, you were giving him orders. Telling him how to treat you. Where to touch you. How to touch you. If he feigned resistance, you might slap or bite him.
Tengen and Sanemi badly wanted to join but didn’t know how to do so. Instead, they jacked each other off and watch the two of you combatively fuck. Kyōjurō swam around while fucking into you with wild abandon. Pleased that you responded similar to a female Leviathan in his mind. Kyō continued to bait and taunt you. Sometimes he gave mercy and did something that he knew would drive you wild like it had with the other two.
You orgasmed again… and again… and again as you saw stars behind your eyes. Kyō could barely keep it together from your previous tightness. The pulsing from your peak drove him over the edge and he bit down hard on your shoulder, in the gap between collar bone and clavicle. Off to the side of Sanemi’s own claiming mark. The pain sent you to another plane of existence in a good way. A very good way.
He wrapped his body around the two of you. Obstructing visuals of the both of you from Tengen and Sanemi’s prying eyes. Kyōjurō pulled you into his chest as he removed his girths from your body. Your cloaca closed up and his penises slid back into his body. As y’all came down from your highs he relaxed till he finally became a limp noodle himself.
He kissed your forehead and purred. “Very well done. You're not such a little fish after all.” You harshly booped him on the nose and swam out of his coils. “Careful, I don’t have a recovery period.” he warned as he untangled himself and returned to the cave ceiling. You yelp and dart closer to the cave floor. Well out of any of their reaches. “So, anyways...” you started, hoping to divert their attentions away from fucking, now knowing that your new arrangement could result in you just getting fucked constantly. “Now that that is over with and I have been slightly mauled we should probably report to Gyomei and OH SHIT! YOU FUCKING BIT ME!” you stare up at Kyōjurō who is watching you bored. “I did” he calmly replied.
“No! I mean you know what I taste like now!” You exclaim. Worried if that changed anything. The warm colored, serpentine mer’s eyes darkened and the whole atmosphere changed. You had the distinct feeling you had just fucked up. You had just majorly fucked up. Within a breath he was down from the ceiling and in front of you. Your face held firmly in his hand. “Why would I eat you? Do you not trust your mate?” he spoke with an unnervingly calm tone.
You wanted to pull back but your danger sense was telling you no. “Uh...” you dragged out. not sure if you should reply to him or not. Kyōjurō began to growl as he released you. “Your species is idiotic if you consume your mates.” venom dripping with his words. You flinched and heard Tengen whisper “Yikes.” “We don’t but you aren’t one of us and I am not one of you.” you defended yourself and your species. He looked down on you giving you the impression his opinion had drastically fallen. Both of you and other Sirens. “What!? You are still a you creature and I am still technically on the menu.” You were beginning to panic inwardly as you reminded him of the food chain order. He released you and crossed his arms. Still glowering at you in contempt. “I am not in the habit of fucking my food. I fuck to mate. I mated you. I am not going to eat you.”
He turned around and swam quietly back into darker part of the cavern. Weaving his body between the sharp jagged masses that rose up from the cave floor and stabbed down from its ceiling. The two male sirens rushed towards you and each touched your shoulder delicately. “We should go.” Sanemi pushed.
He your shoulder and grabs your hand to pull you behind him. You started to protest but Tengen cut you off. “He’s pissed and offended. He knows where to find you. We need to give him space.” You looked back once more into the darkened cave and gazed upon Leviathan within. His eyes smoldered and burned into your soul. You turned away quickly and fled. Needing to sort yourself out but also realizing you needed to report back in with your pod. A feeling of dread settling down into your gut. Resigned to your fate you silently swam with the other two. Their attitudes picking up as you got further and further away from the creature of the deep.
You weren’t sure when you had arrived, so lost in your own thoughts. Tengen had grabbed you before you ran smack dab into Gyomei, your pod’s leader. Gyomei was a large, grey colored siren with a body that was faintly sharklike but elongated in an almost unnatural manner. He was long, lithe and serpentine much like Kyōjurō now that you thought about it. His eyes were completely white as he was blind. He didn’t fit the normal bill for a leader by regular standards, but his other sense more than made up for his lack of sight. He could feel prey or opponents before most of you could see them. Something that had always fascinated you. Right now, he was facing you with his mouth lightly parted. It almost looked like he was sampling the taste of the waters around the both of you.
“Hah, hah! We’re mates now!” Tengen boldly declared to the absurdly large mer in front of you. Sanemi confirms this with a few of the your podmates in the area offering cheers. Gyomei however remained silent. One of his large hands reached over and touched at your neck. First feeling Tengen’s bite and then Sanemi’s. He shook his head and trailed down under Sanemi’s bite till his fingers touched Kyōjurō’s. It stung and you flinched. “Might want to be careful. I wasn’t exactly gentle with my claim.” A familiar voice said from behind you.

me when i say Fuck It to gun's timeline because two weeks is just Not Enough Time in my eyes to properly hold a missing person search throughout several counties and give them time to actually yknow. search ( which we know is already debatable but at least long enough to make it seem like they "tried" yknow? ) before calling it all off.
( which also this does not have to be adopted by anyone else - im just rambling and all but i do believe two weeks is just. not enough time at all- )
maria left for that last trip just before the uni of texas' spring break started. which typically seems to land somewhere between early-mid march (8th-16th). meaning she disappeared in that week.
( im inclined to say maybe within the first 3-4 days of her leaving is when she was taken, probably after she'd been driving most of the first and stopping at random to take photos. also inclined to say she left earlier than break actually started due to how any places she probably wanted to get to ).
her car was discovered abandoned - which could have easily been moved to a different location than where she actually went missing. and that could have taken any number of days to have been reported to local sheriffs after being called in by someone passing by, and which wouldve taken longer to look into before making that house call to her family and announcing her being missing ( esp considering its the 70s so...things were much slower to be processed, searches to be formed took longer to find enough bodies to look, etc ).
so im thinking im pondering im perceiving this roughly :
beginning of march: - maria leaves 2-3 days before spring break actually started. - by the time break is underway, she's made it to her initial few planned stops but is taken, her car hidden briefly, to be gone through. mid-march: - by the time spring break ends and classes resumes, maria never returned to her apartment or campus. - friends probably assumed she'd gotten sick maybe or something went on back home. - her car is discovered that week being back from break, found someplace else, and family is notified. - police start the investigation and search for her once confirmed she hasnt been in contact with anyone back home since those first couple days being gone. - that first-72-hours of easily finding a missing person window now out the door which makes them less concerned of finding her alive. that coupled with the sawyer/hewitt influence around the different departments? they seem less eager to do their jobs, they appear to be avoiding sending search parties at all to look around a certain region. end of march thru april: - when ana catches winds of talks of them suspending the search by the start of april when no leads have been found i think is when she actually leaves their hometown to go find the friends, see if they know anything, come up with a plan to go searching for themselves. - danny told everything and he speed-demons back from his trade schools' training by the coast. - the friends start scouring every place they can think of that maria could have gone to - both that she'd been to before, and where she'd mentioned to them she had planned to stop at or drive past during this trip ( which i imagine must've taken them yknow. a while to do. cause i'd assume they wanted to be thorough since the police weren't. ) - they keep meeting dead ends with every place they go to til they reach newt, and ultimately come across drayton, luda, etc etc. ( insert teehee forbidden knowledge )
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ like give it at least a little over a month to give shit time to unfold and grow more frustrating and confusing yknow? give it time for hopelessness to settle in to make that excitement of hearing from the scattered hewitt-sawyer family members of some possible leads refill them with the hope that maybe they've finally caught onto something!! that she was seen, that shes nearby maybe!!!

It’s the Luck of the Daddies! [Buddy Daddies St. Patrick’s Day HC]
Tumblr media
Here’s some roughly typed and wholesome BD before I head to work and miss the new ep.10 release today. I’m really just craving some fluff before all this upcoming angst. [Confession time: I really had to look up how people in Japan celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.]
- Miri learns about a specifically interesting holiday that’s upcoming in March from daycare. It’s super duper GREEN, like everyone has to wear something fun and green, and it’s Miri’s new favorite color obsession for the next 2 weeks. That’s not all there’s rainbows, and yummy candy, and parades and parties. It’s like everything a magically motivated 4-year old could ever want. She’s super excited to celebrate it with her papa’s.
- Her papa’s on the other hand, have had basically no clue what she’s been talking about. Kazuki was the first to put it together. (with a little help from Ms. Anna’s notes from daycare) He’s had his fair share of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, I mean when else does he get to share his minute obsession with expensive beers and Irish whiskeys with other like minds? Although, he has to admit, he has not the slightest clue on how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day from a kids perspective.
- The morning of March, 17th starts off as an interesting one. Aozora Daycare has invited parents and guardians to join them for a trip to the local St. Patrick’s parade. Kazuki has spent most of the night looking up different Irish food recipe's to make for everyone. He’s quickly come to realize that most of this isn’t exactly what a little kid would want to eat. (he’s only slightly traumatized over what Black Pudding is). For the lunch today, he’s come to the conclusion that a variety of Korokke’s and mixed salads will do.
- “PAPA KAZUKII~ Where’s my big green bow?” Miri is getting herself dressed up today, all by herself, she just needs a little help fixing her hair. Kazuki and Rei have their usual single round of rock, paper, scissors, to see who’s on hair salon duty this morning.
- The loser today: Rei
- He’s actually not that bad at doing Miri’s hair, even if all he can manage is a simple high ponytail. It doesn’t have to be perfect, a hyper little kiddo like Miri would mess it up throughout the day anyway. Rei doesn’t mind the bonding time he gets with Miri as he brushes through her hair, and wraps a big bow decorated with clover and rainbows into the knot. “Thanks Papa Reii~ I love it!!”
- On the walk to daycare today, the three are stylish as always, not too extravagant though. Rei definitely had to talk Kazuki out of buying an expensive all green suit, they don’t need to grab everyone in towns attention again. Kazuki settles on a puny green T-shirt and Rei has a solid colored one. They’re safe for now from Miri’s tiny but somehow also violent pinches. (Rei absolutely learned this the hard way, those fingers are small but man, can they sting.)
- “Papa’s are we going to catch a leopard-nyan today?” Miri asks looking up at the two holding her hands. She’s lost them. Rei tilts his head down to her and squints “a what?”
- “I think she means, Leprechaun, Rei, is that what you mean, Miri?” Kazuki laughs. Miri responds with her hands balled up as one does to mimic a cat. “That's it, Papa! Nya☆"
《 And that's all I have for now!! I'll hopefully write more on this tonight after work. Other than that, Happy St. Patrick's day, everyone, take care and stay safe! 》

After rereading chapter 4 of SYHCME, I’m wondering how that night went for Eddy when she got home to Stede.
(yes! I had the very scene in mind, but obviously was with Read's POV, so here's Eddy coming home, barefoot and tired)
“Are you all right?” Stede asked first. Eddy stood in the doorway, frozen at the precipice for a single moment. They could hear Jim pulling away, out of the light spilling from the front door. Stede was just inside, one of Eddy’s robes on and fear in his eyes.
Fear for them? Or of them? Eddy felt frightening just then. The pulse of rage hadn’t left them, thrumming hot and wild through their veins. They wanted to run or fuck or fight, but they also very much wanted a bath and their bed.
“I will be,” Eddy settled on and stepped inside. Her bare feet met the cool wood floors and then she was another step in and then straight into Stede’s arms. He hugged her without reservation, if anything, holding her a little harder than usual. Scared for her then. That was all right.
“Darling,” Stede said quietly. “Why don’t you go put the gun back behind the medicine cabinet before we do anything else?”
“You knew?” she closed her eyes and dropped her forehead to his shoulder.
“The contractor had to ask me about it when you were away for the day, back when we had the second floor being worked on,” Stede didn’t sound upset, just a little sad. “I thought that if it brought you some peace, then it was fine. It wasn’t as if the children could get to it with that clever design of yours.”
“I should’ve told you,” Eddy knew they should’ve. It had been on the tip of their tongue, but never managed to trip away.
“Maybe,” Stede stroked her back. “But I think....were you glad to have it tonight?”
“Yes,” she said without any further consideration. “Very.”
“Then it’s good you had. But now....”
“Yeah, give me a minute.”
The medicine cabinet in their bathroom was set into the wall, built in and deep enough for a lot of lotions and potions. At the very top drawer (where really only Eddy could easily reach), there was a small catch. She thumbed it down and the cabinet click and she could pull out from the wall. There was a gun safe behind it and she numbly punched in the code (the date of the crowbar incident and she’d have to change that now, a memory too firmly associated with Jack to be bearable) and set the gun back in it, before locking back away and closing things up.
They looked at their reflection, but it reported nothing particularly different. They folded their lips into a smile, but it wouldn’t stay. Fair enough. Flicking off the lights, she headed to the bed, shedding the pajamas as she went. Those were for lounging in mostly, she tried to sleep with as little between her and Stede as possible.
Stede was already back in bed and when he spotted her, he switched off the lamp and lifted the covers. She shimmied in beside him and sighed as he put his arm around her waist.
“Do you want to tell me about it?”
“He’s dead,” she said flatly. “I didn’t do it, but I came damn close. I did shoot him.”
“Is that likely to be a problem?”
“No. It was a pretty easy cover up and Jack was never organized, but he got downright sloppy. No one’s going to be looking for him.”
“No one’s loss,” Stede deemed, a little coldly. “What about Bones?”
“He picked better than he knew. Maybe he even fell for her at some point, but she was a kid,” they said roughly. “Just a kid, Stede. Alma’s age when they met.”
“I can’t even imagine,” he said softly. “Though I suppose you can.”
“At least Hornigold wasn’t trying to get me in bed,” Eddy said, disgusted. “Jack tried to make her like us, but she’s more suited to grifting than violence. If he’d used her right, she could’ve been a real weapon.”
“She wasn’t?”
“He forgot that Hornigold gave us a group. We didn’t need to go looking for other people. Maybe we weren’t friends really, but we weren’t alone. At least not then. He left that girl to fend for herself and she’s clever. She found what she needed.”
“I suppose I can’t fault her for going after someone that made her feel safe,” Stede sighed. “But did it have to be Read?”
“A kind blond person with a big heart and no limits?” Eddy smiled fractionally. “Yeah, can’t relate. Who’d do such a thing?”
“I don’t think you needed me to make you safe,” Stede corrected, but he was smiling too.
“Course I did. Still do,” Eddy kissed him at last, snuggling closer. The fight was going out of her now, spine decompressing. “Different kind of safe maybe. Still counts.”
“Do you think they’ll stay together? That’s quite a stress to put on a young relationship.”
“I don’t know. Read has the self-preservation of a lemming, so probably for a while at least. Bones seems to want to stay.”
“We’ll have to find a way to make her feel welcome.”
“Probably,” Eddy sighed. “Conniving little fox. She didn’t actually do anything, but lie and I can’t hold that against her really. Plus we did kill her husband a little and she seemed to genuinely like him for some godforsaken reason.”
“Izzy finished the job?” Stede guessed.
“Yeah. You know,” she started then stopped. She wasn’t sure Stede did know actually. Had she ever fully put that to words?
“Ugh,” Stede turned his face into the pillow. “I should send him a thank you card or something.”
“What? Why?” Eddy blinked out of her contemplation.
“It’s not exactly his job description anymore, honey. Bit above and beyond. I’ll send the horrible rodent something. Not a fruit basket. Maybe flowers. He’d hate flowers. That would be fun.”
And she knew, of course, that it wasn’t Izzy’s job anymore. Had never technically been his job except it always had been. Her blade, her bullet. Sometimes he’d been a mercy, frankly. Though no one would’ve thanked him for it, she supposed.
“He likes black licorice,” she recalled. “He might enjoy some of that.”
“What is wrong with him, honestly?” Stede huffed. “Disgusting.”
And Eddy had to laugh. Because that was the most worked up Stede had sounded all night. Figured.
When she slept that night, it was wholly undisturbed by dreams and her husband’s breath on the back of her neck. Safely home.
