The feeling when you’re about to watch Avatar 2, and fucking HP Legacies is one of the commercials.

And then the guy next to you starts talking with his friend about how he’s pre-ordered the game and everything (during the commercial, not the movie), and it’s like … he’s about to watch a (pretty dang good) movie about “colonists and colonising bad”. The only weird thing in the movie is how much English the native populations suddenly are speaking, despite, y’know, this not being America and other than the Sullys, they really have no reason to be speaking a lot of English, cuz they’re on Pandora, so why not speak, y’know, Na’vi? But back to topic: I keep thinking “Does he KNOW what that game is about?!? Is he aware???” Cuz, like, it’s pretty much how creatures based on a medieval, very dangerous Jewish stereotype wants the same rights as humans. They’re as intelligent as humans. Why exactly can’t they have wands like witches and wizards, Joanne? Is it cuz they’re “evil”? Is that just some character trait you’ve given them? Ah, that reminds me of how they betrayed the main characters in “FBaWtFT” btw, which is weird, cuz the evil guy in that series is (also) based on Hitler and nazis, so why’s the Jewish stereotype helping the evil nazi-based characters, Joanne? Still, ignoring that, why can’t they have the same rights as other equally intelligent races, Joanne? You go on about “women’s rights are being taken away cuz scary trans women aren’t being oppressed like they used to!!!” but the Jewish stereotyped creatures shouldn’t have equal rights? I mean, we already have a (as I’ve come to learn, and can actually see now) stereotype of the “happy slave” in house elves, who didn’t want equal rights and just loooooooooved to serve their superior wizard masters, (especially the ones representing the ones who’re nazi sympathisers or nazi-stereotypes themselves for some reason, what’s up with that, btw??) who’re as smart as humans and have their own magic, what’s with the amount of “as smart as humans, but shouldn’t have the same rights as them”-stereotypes? Like, the thing that really fucks with me, is that she must’ve been called out about it in the middle-time after the series ended and the new prequel-series began, and not just did I, as a fan at the time, not hear any of it cuz it didn’t reach those circles, she MUST have heard of it, and not just didn’t she never feel like clarifying it, she DOUBLE DOWN IN IT!!! It’s the duality of growing up with a series that claims to be about the power of love and friendship, and which uses the concept of racism and antisemitism to show that muggleborns are being oppressed for no reason other than “nazis are bad” which they are, but then it uses irl stereotypes made by antisemitic and racist people to justify suppressing others, so it’s doing the exact thing that it claims is bad and it’s so fucked up, cuz I could SEE it back then, I would’ve gone “you’re crazy, have you even read the books?!?” like some grandstanding, superior asshole, then the ones who’re saying all this DID read the boobs and saw the deeper, buried meanings better than I, someone who used to be a fan since before the first movie came out, ever could!!! They saw things I was too privileged to understand or need to care about, cuz I was a white, casually Christian kid in a white-majority, casually Christian-based country. I didn’t see those things, cuz I never needed to care about them for my own sake! And it’s so fucked, all the money people like me gave to her. All the praise and all the admiration! She was my hero! She was exactly what I wanted to be, and she no doubt ignored all these well-meaning warnings, until there was no way to deny that … she just doesn’t care! She’s ignored the well-meaning, constructive criticism on purpose, until she can’t claim to “not know” anymore.

Honestly, I can’t help but wonder, if we’ve all gotten it wrong? The muggleborns aren’t “Jewish people being hunted by nazis”, but women being oppressed by men, except you could even have used that as a metaphor for “muggleborns are trans people, and they are the gender they say, and death eaters are cis people who’re attacking them cuz they’re bigots” but that’s not something Joanne wants to imagine could fit cuz “trans men are obviously poor, confused girls being forced by patriarchy to become fake boys to survive in a male-dominated world and trans women are violent, raping perverted men in dresses!” (fuck you JKR, I hope you lose every cent you have and have to go back to writing on napkins while being unemployed, you bigoted bitch, I hate you so much, fuck, why did I admire a monster like you for so long!) so that wouldn’t be a good metaphor in her mind! … she could’ve gone back and made the reverse of HP legacies, a game where the OG mc learns of how the goblins are actually still being oppressed, how those “wars” were the real nazi-reference except if the bad guys won, and how magic creatures have been exploited and oppressed for centuries if not more!!! She could’ve taken the criticism to heart and shown she’d seen it and understood it, and she could’ve FIXED IT, but she doesn’t want to!!! It would’ve been so easy, but no!!! She doubles down! She makes a fucking Ye West style rant except it’s in the form of a fucking game she can earn money on, and I just wonder: does the guy next to me in that cinema KNOW that he’s supporting a game based on a dangerous, fucked up conspiracy about a suppressed group of people, who’ve been hunted and treated like shit for centuries? Does he KNOW that? Or is he unaware? And more importantly, is he WILL-FULLY unaware? Is he stubbornly sticking his head in the sand, plugging his ears, covering his eyes and refusing to hear the truth? Is he hiding behind “I have autism, it’s my special interest, I’ve been a fan for more than half of my life, I can’t just accept that my life has been gleefully about supporting a bigot, I can’t accept that my inaction and ignorance has been indirectly hurting people I’ve been claiming I support wholeheartedly, I can’t accept that I’ve purposely ignored warning voices for more than a year or more!” Is he like I was? I can relate to that thought. The desperate, inner voice going “I’m not transphobic, I’m not racist, I’m not antisemitic, I’m a good person, my favourite book series is about acceptance and love and anti-racism, I can’t be a bad person!!!” But I was. Not directly, never directly. I never did it myself, but I supported her and she used that to hurt others, to cause harm. And waking up from that stupid, pink-tinted, fairytale dream of “I’m not a bad person. I’m just enjoying a book series that means a lot to me, that helped me get through so much!”, it really SUCKS!!! Yeah, it helped you through shit … but some moronic asshat out there will claim some other bad person’s intellectual property helped them get through tough times, and you’ll still be able to go “but you’re supporting a bad person!” and how hypocritical and gross are you, if you can’t apply that same logic to yourself. Yes, it made you pull through, it “saved you”, but now it’s hurting others. If a dog that you love is biting others, you put it down. That’s your duty, no matter how much you love it. If you’re in the privileged position of not needing to know, but you DO KNOW, then you ARE a bad person for ignoring it. It doesn’t matter what it used to mean to you. It doesn’t matter how much it twists your gut. It doesn’t matter how bitter the taste in your mouth is. It doesn’t matter how much bile you feel burn your throat. It doesn’t matter how much you cry. You put that dog down before it ends up biting someone to death. You put that book down before someone gets killed, because someone else, someone just a bit more sick than you, decided to use the author’s words as an excuse to do something deplorable. If you want to claim you’re not a bad person, stop being one.

Get to know me - Alphabet

DAY 19 - S

1) Samhain

My all time fav pagan Holiday! Samhain is actually the same thing as Halloween, so I think Ive said enough by written about Halloween... Oh! I can just add that I have written my own Samhain ritual to honor my ancestors and Pagan Gods. On my Samhain altar, I always have black and orange candles, chestnuts, dried autumn leaves, cookies for spirits, acorns, cones, pumpkins and a little broom made out of twigs.

2) Saphael

My fav Shadowhunters ship! In the books... yeah, there isnt actually anything to ship, Raphael isnt that much into Simon like in the TV series and he is portrayed quite young in the books, but in the TV series... YAY!!! I love this ship soooooo much, actually even more than Malec! Raphael always cared for Simon and his safety and when they met after a long time in the ending episodes, I cried so much, because their little reunion made me happy... Im very sad that there is apparently a scene, where Raphael caresses Simons face but it wasnt involved in the series! Im planning to do a vid for Saphael, I even started it, but then my old pc crashed down and everything was lost and I was so mad, that I didnt start over, but I think I will do it one day.

3) Shadowhunters

Speaking of Saphael, I just cant forget the whole Shadowhunters-thing. I absolutely love it! The book, the TV series... well, the movie didnt impress me at all. And although the TV series is a little bit different from whats written in the books, I dont care, its just great and Im recommending it to everybode who likes a good fantasy. My fav character is Simon and Raphael and Magnus <3 I never really liked Jace... well, I like him, but I never found him as atractive as other girls did. Oh, and I just hate Clary :D I dont know why, she seems so... dumb to me XD yeah, maybe its because she was just thrown into a new world and didnt know what to do, but... I dont know, I just feel like her decisions and actions were dumb all the time :D

4) Sterek

My fav Teen Wolf ship! I like Sciles too, but... I always thought that Scott had more chemistry between him and Isaac. Sterek is just... TOP! Cute and funny and oh so amazing :D I made a vid for Sterek, sadly, I cant upload it, because of the copyright... :( so I need to figure out how to put it online...

5) Snow

I looooooooove snow and I always had! I remember waiting for the first snow as a kid and I was so excited when I saw the first snowflakes fly through the air! I was able to spend hours playing in the snow outside, completely alone, making igloos. Im still waiting for the first snow even as an adult, sadly the winter isnt the same as it was when I was little, so we dont get that much snow these years :( I hope we will have a beautiful winter with snow again so my baby girl can see what I saw when I was a kid and what I found completely magical :)

6) Supernatural

Ooooh! One of my fav TV shows!!! Its absolutely great and amazing and perfect and... I dont know what else to say! Just go and watch it, if you never did, its totally worth it! My husband is also a big fan of it! Its gonna end soon, so Im incredibly sad about it, luckily, it has 15 season to watch over and over again :D My fav character was always Crowley and I was devastated when he died. And I also love Sam so much <3 and I hope he doesnt get a bad ending, although I feel he will :(

7) Stiles

My baby cutie <3 Isnt he just amazing? I think Dylan O´Brian is one of the most beautiful beings in this world, dont fight me! Stiles as a character is just perfect, he is funny, brave, inteligent and, although he is human, the pack would be totally f*cked without him :D BTW Nogitsune-Stiles was hot as hell *heart eyes* I actually once had a dream about dating Scott (which I dont know why the hell was I dating him, I dont even like him :D Yeah, true alpha... who never really kicked some ass... :/ ), but kissing Stiles XD it felt pretty real... mmmhmmm :D

Hello and welcome everyone to Comic Tea Party’s Week Long Book Club~! This week we’ll be focusing on Cloverlines by Wednesday Ash, asteRiesling, Nachocobana, and Nadikusmo~! (https://tapas.io/series/Cloverlines)

You are free to read and comment about the comic all week at your own pace, so stop on by whenever it suits your schedule! Remember, though, that while we allow constructive criticism, our focus is to have fun and appreciate the comic. Below you will find four questions to get you started on the discussion. However, a new question will be posted and pinned everyday (between 12:01AM and 6AM PST), so keep checking back for more! You have until November 11th to tell us all your wonderful thoughts! With that established, let’s get going on the reading and the chatting!

QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?

QUESTION 3. What do you think happened between Damon and Karen that caused such a rift in their relationship? Will Karen sign the divorce papers or is she going to continue to cling to Damon? How will this affect Damon’s future?

QUESTION 4. Several characters mentioned that Aimi is a “failed idol.” What do you think happened that caused Aimi to fail as an idol? Do you think this will have consequences for Aimi and/or the band at some point?

Hey guys, I'm looking forward to reading all your thoughts about Cloverlines

1. Aimi pulling the strings to get Yuuki into the band was my favorite. Just how she goes from being some spoiled brat who uses her charms (aka the PHEROMONES she puts on for her live performances!!!) to get free meals to being surprisingly sweet towards Yuuki.

2. Commenter "TrAsh" said it best - Damon truly is "daddy material". In all seriousness, it was hard to pick between him and Aimi, just due to how much I love Aimi's surprisingly brilliant trickster personality but... I just feel so bad for Damon, I want to give him a hug

3. Have you met Karen? Hmm... I suppose it could be some major argument, or Damon wanting to focus more on the band, but it may just be that they grew further apart as people...

4. (has anyone besides Monica actually said this? i don't recall) Anyway, I think Aimi failed as an idol because she sabotages every piece of equipment in sight if she doesn't like some aspect of the performance/recording session (the songs, the people she's working with, etc). Was she justified in ruining a bunch of careers (including her own) like that? Well... idol industries in the real world are pretty exploitative, so probably.

QUESTION 5. Do you think Yuuki will adjust to his new life on Earth and the band in general? Will his addition to the band be good in the long run, or will Yuuki continue to cause problems in his own way? Also, do you think Yuuki will become homesick?

QUESTION 6. Cloverlines has suffered several changes in band line-ups. Do you think Aussie might try to return to the band? Alternatively, how might his solo career affect the group? What about Monica? Will she manage to stick with the band despite tension?

would like to chime in for a bit above: having it be a fictional religion allows for less baggage when depicting its effects i feel, cause I wanna show what are the effects of it, without any risk of offending reasonable people otherwise

it's good to have an objective view on something inherently subjective, and fictionalizing the aesthetic elements allows a way for that

Yeah for sure, things are safer with fictional concepts but I think real ones can be good to depends I guess. It’s super fun to make up stuff though

QUESTION 7. Despite the band focus, the world in the story keeps turning. How might the recent terrorist events affect Cloverlines or other bands? Who do you think Mirai was? What others aspects of the world caught your attention?

okay time to answer some questions. 1) My favorite scene so far is the one where Damon and Karen have dinner. I really liked all the subtle and not so subtle ways it showcased the state of their relationship. this is not to mention that i liked it wasnt even technically about their relationship, it was about Rinne. the fact it became about their relationship felt both very realistic and very revealing. 2) Damon. I think he has the most compelling of the conflicts and hes the most sensible of the group. He provides an essential grounding influence in the fact of everyone else being a bit more exaggerated, and if anyone is gonna make the band succeed, its damon. also, he has great hair. 3) I assume what happened is exactly what we saw at dinner: they have a personality clAsh. In the end though, I'm gonna theorize that Karen probably pushed Damon a bit too hard..maybe to succeed in music, and Damon just bailed because it wasn't the way he wanted to do it. overall, though, i think the route of their problems stems from the fact that damon is ambitious and laid back while karen is ambitious and aggressive. i think karen will sign the divorce papers eventually. but she's definitely going to cling for a while. however, i think shell slowly ease off as stuff with rinne starts to happen and changes some of the dynamic of the story. 4) Have you met Aimi? XD That is what happened. Aimi is 1000% not the type to follow orders and will do whatever she wants. Thus, this would make her a poor idol since shed be told constantly where to go and what to wear for her image. Damon is a saint for not having fired her. XD Overall, though, the fact she might be a "failed idol" is irrelevant i think. at the end what will have consequences is aimi continuing to do as aimi do.

5) Yuuki seems pretty well-adjusted as is, so he'll probably be fine. I do think there's gonna be more issues with Yuuki as part of the band though. Cause they basically hired him out of desperation and of the two gigs weve seen, we got weird guitar sound one and blasphemy one. so i think as a whole we havent gotten to see a good demonstration of whether yuuki is good or not. so it might take a while for him to fit in with the band. but to be fair, id say this about most of the members. they really need to work on their synergy as a band imo XD. i think yuuki will only become homesick if his fleet comes near enough he could viably go home. cause then its a tangible goal versus some theoretical could do it thing. 6) Idk if will, but I do think it'd be interesting to see Aussie go "i want to come back." Create some drama where the group has to pick between Aussie and Yuuki and test the limits. Solo career wise I think it might actually help the group. If Aussie is successful and is like "i was in that band" others might take more of an interest. As far as Monica goes, she'll probably stick around. I think the worst of the tension already came and went. 7) I assume the terrorist attacks will keep up and they will inadvertantly expose Rinne and cause all the scandal. Though given the comic's tone I can't really forsee any serious consequences. As for Mirai, IDK. Good question. I assume it was a real person who did something significant which is somewhat interesting to consider. For the world in general I'm really curious about how spread out the population is. Cause the galaxy is a big place. And the astronomy nerd in me wonders what the travel technology is like.

QUESTION 8. Rinne, a robot, has a strange vision and keeps asking if Monica is Mirai. What do you think is happening to Rinne? Is Karen right to be worried about Rinne’s sentience? What is Rinne supposed to “create?”

because in the opening earth is described as the entertainment of the galaxy

the nearest habitable planets we've found so far are like 30 light years away? and the milky way is over 100k light years across

anyway my guess is that Mirai is just some robot's rights revolutionary dude, and any surviving sentient robots seem to treat them like some sort of deity. don't think Monica is Mirai though. Rinne just gets confused easily.

also what does Rinne create? sick beats! next question!

i want to see them do more shows! yuuki doesn't have all that much experience under his belt and... honestly, I just want to see a performance where he isn't playing a song ten seconds after finding out about it

8) I definitely don't think Monica is Mirai. I'm starting to think Mirai is an artifical intelligence maybe. Or was a person who made artificial intelligence which is kind of a big deal. but this is what's happening to rinne. she's tapping into some sort of programming that expresses mirai's ultimate desires for her creations. that being said, i do think karen is right to be concenred. not because rinne is dangerous, but because shes right. if its illegal, their band is gonna be screwed if they get discovered. 9) i somewhat agree with the joke answer that they gotta do something about aimi. i feel they wont succeed as long as they continue to tolerate her impulsive willfulness. not to say theyll have no success, but theres a diff levels of success and theyll never become top tier if her shenanigans continue to bury them in controversy. 10) as i said before, i really would like to see more concerts with the band in general. cause i think its an important experience for them to bond as a band and as characters. i also look forward to karen moving past damon because i think itll be interesting to see how she finally matures enough to reach the conclusion.
