Thoughts on Inside Job part 2

Just finished watching part 2 of Inside Job. Not really sure what I was expecting after leaving part 1 on a cliffhanger like that to be honest so I was approaching this with a lot of curiosity.

How would they approach the relationship with Reagan and her dad? Would he be some sort of final boss that they would be planning on taking down while pretending to work with him? Would there be some betrayal where some characters join with him and would there be a mystery of Reagan trying to find out who she can trust? Would they explore even more the idea of Reagan having a talent for being a supervillain while having her battle with her sense of morality?

There are so many ways you could tackle this status quo!!

And the route they chose to tackle is... Somewhat questionable in my opinion...

Basically, they give Reagan a love interest, make her act like an insecure teenage girl around him, have a couple of filler episodes, and then finally have an actual confrontation with her dad in the second to last episode and finish the season with Brett playing basketball with a dog...

Definitely wasn't expecting that I'll admit.

Overall... I did not like this batch of episodes honestly. I felt Reagan's boyfriend was incredibly generic and her relationship with him was rather dull. The dude basically has two character traits, he likes Reagan and hates his job. I found him reeeally boring.

Reagan's dad, who I thought was going to be a big thing for the story, is mostly in the background just complaining about how he can't get Reagan's mom back... And then they kinda try to make us feel sorry for him? After all he did? That just feels wrong.

Reagan herself kinda feels like a secondary character this time. The whole part one was basically her show, it was about her character development, her struggles, her journey, her goals... But now her only character was "I want my boyfriend to like me!!"

I don't know what happened, it just felt like the writing took a few steps backwards. The storylines they do just felt so... tropey. So many episodes, so many of the lessons, so many of the jokes... They all felt like old tropes we seen before. The fungus episode was probably the worst one, that just felt like a waste of time completely.

I kinda wanted more stuff with Reagan's mom or more Reagan and Gigi moments. These were my favorite parts for some reason.

Reagan and Gigi actually have a nice but very underused friendship, and Reagan's mom is honestly a much more interesting character than I remembered. Her episode with Keanu Reeves was probably the best one we had and her almost having a thing with the Mickey Mouse robot actually made me curious if they were going to go somewhere with that.

At the end of the day though, I'm still kinda disappointed. Doesn't really feel like we accomplished that much on went anywhere that interesting. The final episode leaves off with a rather depressing place for Reagan to be regarding her happiness, but it feels like it kinda comes out of nowhere to me.

I would definitely love to see more exploration of the idea of her having to choose between being happy or doing her duty for the greater good, I feel like that's a great conflict to talk about! But I need a little more than "Oh no, I can't be together with this one guy that was barely introduced and has barely any character" to give more depth to this topic.

So yeah, didn't do much for me, maybe it did more for others, and hopefully my feelings will change if they ever make another season.

Having now gotten through Batwoman s2, I have a couple of content problems. Not theme problems or really even plot problems - I actually really enjoyed s2 overall! Approximately equal to s1!

Don't think the through plot was as strong, but I think that had more to do with having to reshape the series after Ruby Rose left, so I'm not going to fault them for that. The Kate/Beth dynamic was central, and you lose something when you lose Kate. That was inevitable. And they did SO WELL with introducing Ryan and I love her (maybe more than Kate, who I didn't really click with) and I love the issues they addressed with her and I really liked the themes they dealt with in s2. They didn't pull punches, and I mostly enjoyed that. (Would've liked more time given to the Luke development at the end of the season, but you know, they have room for that.)

My main problems with s2 were 1) lack of on-screen lesbian pda comparative with s1 and 2) the focus given to the Alice/Ocean romance.

Gonna start with the second and then make my way to the first and comment on the interaction between the two and how the second highlighted the first. Okay? Okay!

I did not like Alice killing Mouse at the end of s1. That felt completely out of character for her after the whole season. I understand her potentially seeing him as getting in the way of what she really wants, but killing him felt wrong to me.

Alice/Ocean felt like a shoe-in for replacing the Alice/Mouse dynamic except now let's make him hot and romantic instead of found family. And to be honest? It wasn't as good. The Alice/Mouse dynamic was so well built throughout s1 that the jump to "oh, they forgot they were lovers, and Alice forgot this really important part of her life, and now she remembers and he's suddenly super important and she has to choose between him and Kate" - like, look. Mouse was better for that purpose. Anyway.

I didn't feel the chemistry between Alice and Ocean, for the most part, and using "suddenly remembering erased memories" felt like a bad. set-up. to jump start an old relationship from nothing that we as the viewers are supposed to have this connection with, but we didn't see it develop. Not really. We get the memories and a lot of backstory information told to us, but that's not the same. (As opposed to Kate/Sophie, where we are given both the backstory and the real time present development regarding the complications that happened in the backstory.)

And because I didn't feel the strength of Alice/Ocean, I didn't get that big impact of Alice having to choose between him and Kate or of him dying. Multiple. Times. (And that's another thing - with killing the same character multiple times in a short time span, like, look, I'm going to stop caring. Even if it is twice, that's a general same emotional point being hit and idk. I just. Didn't feel it.)

But the other issue is that the frequent use of physicality in the Alice/Ocean relationship highlighted that NOT happening with the Ryan/Angelique relationship.

Now! I do not have a problem with - like, I don't need my ships making out or sleeping together on-screen. Not necessary to me. I am a simple ace. Handholding and hugs are okay, etc. But it felt wrong to me that the straight couple (Alice and Ocean can be other things but we don't know, so please don't @ me for that) had so much kissing and etc. but the lesbian ship. did not. Especially after s1 where Kate kissed Sophie and Reagan and Batwoman kissed Sophie and Sophie and Julia were together and Kate slept with Reagan and we got sheet cover up stuff with that--

I'm not saying any of that is necessary but when you put so much physicality into your lesbian ships in s1 and then drop that (with the exception of the Kate/Sophie kiss in the finale) and replace it with het physicality - like, that's concerning. To me, at least.

And to be fair, that wasn't a big thing to me, just something I noticed as the season went on - that a show so focused on reminding us that these characters (and the villains!) are lesbians, we're not seeing much with that. We see implications or evidences (Ryan and Angelique definitely slept together!) but most of the physicality on screen was handholding or hugging compared to the multiple kisses and backstory making out Alice/Ocean got. And for a show that uses lesbians as a main draw, idk, I have a bit of a problem with that. Not a big one? But enough that I. wanted to bring it up, idk.

Anyway, tl;dr - Alice/Mouse platonic/familial relationship > Alice/Ocean romantic one; more lesbian smooches next season please and thank; you've got Bridet playing Ivy like. THE OPPORTUNITY THERE.

Sorry if this is belated commentary. I really liked s2 on the whole! Just not Alice/Ocean. And missed the lady smooches, idk.

Tagged by @simmeronnie Thank you so much. I decided to use this as an excuse to create my founders of my ts3 legacies in ts4.

Rules: Post all of your founders together to compare and contrast them! Share some details to see how similar or different they are. This can be done in CAS, or you can jump in game, or you can share old screenshots!

1) The Van Winkle Legacy - Founder Peter Van Winkle

Just the average absentminded scientist.

He is immortal due to being tricked by Emit Relevart.

He was married twice.

First wife Valari - their marriage ended in divorce

They had 4 children together

Second wife Jean - she died of old age

They had 4 children together

Valari was killed in a fire she set herself to kill Peter in after luring him into her trap by kidnapping his son.

Peter is now moving on from having lost Jean and is dating River. When Gen 6 starts we’ll see if she becomes wife number 3

Gen 6 currently on hiatus but I am working on it

2) Not So Ordinary Life - Founder William Bennett and his wife Jessica

This legacy started because William kept getting abducted by aliens. I asked myself one little question...what if the aliens weren’t as friendly as the game made them out to be? What if they had an agenda all their own? Thus the Bennett saga began.

Why Bennett? Because I gave him the same last name of my favorite character Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice

William was abducted 4 or 5 times. I don’t honestly remember. It did result in two pregnancies.

The alien experiments done on him unfortunately had lasting side effects on his wife. She became prone to fits of anger, jealousy, uncontrollable sexual urges that resulted in multiple children she was unable to take care nor any desire to do so. Also resulted in an affair and a child from that relationship as well. Until she completely lost it and tried to kill her entire family.

William stuck by her because he felt guilty because of what the aliens had done to him.

He also lost his oldest child Sydney in a tragic house fire. She later came back to life through a science experiment but that’s another story.

Gen 6 currently on hiatus but being worked on

3) Not So Peaceful Life (a side legacy of NSOL) - Evelyn Bennett and her husband Shon Olivia

Evelyn is William’s alien daughter.

She married her older sisters boyfriend after meeting him again once she went away to University.

They were reluctant to move their relationship from friends to something more.

Shon’s estranged father hated her and on more than one occasion tried to kill her. He had been abducted by aliens that drove him to drinking.

Shon and Evelyn also took in his children from a previous relationship before he was sent to live with his Aunt. He didn’t even know about them until a case he was working on in Bridgeport let him to his ex girlfriends door.

Shon had two kids with Evelyn and two with his ex.

4th gen is on hiatus.

4) Not So Quiet Life (a side legacy of NSOL) Casey Bennett and his wife Lynn

Casey is the 3rd child of William and Jessica

Sydney sacrificed herself to save him in the fire that took her life.

Casey and his younger brother Gene never really got along until years later when Casey had his own breakdown and developed a drinking problem. Gene helped him through it.

Casey got a girl pregnant while he was at University and they lived together for the sake of their son Eddie.

He came home from work one day to find her gone and his son alone crying in his crib.

Through the help of is older brother Robert he was able to find a suitable nanny for his son.

He later married his son’s nanny.

Casey had two kids with Lynn besides Eddie.

Glitter is the continuation of his legacy with Hannah, Benjamin and Christopher Bennett.

5) Not So Reckless Life (a side legacy of NSOL) Gene Bennett and his wife Aimee.

Gene had emotional problems that developed after the death of this older sister Sydney. He felt responsible for the fire because he took out the batteries from the smoke alarm to operate a toy.

He got into drugs and drinking as a teenager but nothing really helped with the guilt he felt.

He became suicidal.

He became a target of his mother’s to vent her anger and unreasonable hatred on not helping with his own emotional problems.

Things started to turn around when he met his girlfriend (can’t remember her name) They lived together until he decided to sign up Sim Star Idol

Everyone was against him joining the show afraid that the pressure would be too much for him and he’d start drinking again.

If it weren’t for his brother Robert’s firm belief in him that he could do it that he did the show.

He didn’t win but he did meet the love of his life Aimee Vera.

Aimee’s parents were less than thrilled with her choice in men and did everything they could to break them up.

Aimee gave into their demands when Gene found out he was the father of twins from his previous relationship and she had died in child birth leaving him twin girls to raise.

He had a total of 7 kids.

Knights of Hope is the current gen and will continue once Glitter concludes. Currently on Hiatus

6) Bring Me Back To Live (a side legacy of NSOL) Sydney Bennett and her husband Tain Sugihara.

Sydney died in a tragic house fire as a teenager.

She was brought back to life by a highly experimental procedure

The scientists wanted to generate good will and funding for their experiment so they insisted she marry and they hosted a BC for her.

Tain Sugihara was the lucky winner

The experiment that brought her back to life led to her death five years later.

She had triplets but it was her son Jackson who developed the genetic degradation that would eventually lead to his early death.

The scientists wanted to continue the experiments in the hopes of perfecting or even duplicating their one and only successful resurrection.

Made to almost the end of gen 5 - indefinite hiatus

7) My lil Reagan’s Robin Fairchild and Dominick Reagan started it all.

I will one day post their story.

It is written but I want to fit it in so that it makes sense with where I’m at with my Reagan stories.

These two would be the grandparents or Jonah, Jayden, Raelyn and Sage.

Sage’s purple hair comes from Dominick

Dominick is a ghost now living with his elderly husband in their youngest son’s home.

My TS4 game play consists of mostly their descendants

8) Island Living Game play - Octavia Griggs and Wilson McCabe

I’ll probably just play them until the kids age up.

You may see their kids married to other sims later on

It was started to test out Island Living

9) 4x4 Challenge and game play - Reo Carmichael and Kasen Rocca

Reo is a well known actor

Kasen is an up and coming artist

The challenge was to start off with a 4x4 house and every 10,000 dollars they make they can add on another 4x4 room. They have to spend all but 500 dollars in the renovation.

Once the upstairs is complete and their kids are aged this challenge will end.

I have plans for their only son He will have his own challenge to accomplish

Hmm that’s a lot but the majority of my TS3 stories are on hiatus but will be coming back. I just want to have stuff written in advance. I do see I get obsessed with families mainly my Bennett’s and Reagan’s. I love my Van Winkle’s too but I tried to keep all the stories in together since they tell the same overall story.

Sorry I got a little long winded but I do love to talk about my stories and this helped me realize what I lived about them. Also why I struggle to let any of them even BMBTL.
