What are your top problematic heroes? I just finished devil in winter for the first time (what on earth I was thinking waiting this long I'll never know) and now I have a craving for more villainous heroes

Happy Devil in Winter reading, lol. If you haven't read It Happened One Autumn yet, Westcliff is definitely consider a Problematic Hero (with good reason) and that's a great book. Often, Sebastian is considered the By Far Most Problematic Wallflowers hero, but tbh I think a lot of that comes from people reading Devil in Winter first or solo and registering Westcliff as the Noble Counterpart. When in reality, he's actually preeeeetty wonderfully problematic. I'll always say, Sebastian is always like "I never would've actually *airquotes* rape your friend" but Westcliff saw Lillian drunk off her ass and trying to fuck him and went ".... why not".

Others include:

--Dorian Blackwell, The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne. Crimes include: murder, drugging and kidnapping the heroine, hiding his actual identity from her for MOST of the book lmao, maybe some light dubcon...? She was verbally into it, but whatever, and of course that time he insinuated she was sucking her boss's dick when they met.

--Carlton Morley! The boss! His actual hero book is Seducing A Stranger by Kerrigan Byrne. Crimes include: committer of various illegal beatings, is technically? Law enforcement? But I'll let it slide this one time, fucks the heroine and takes her virginity without asking if she's a virgin (his friends later: but did she seem like a virgin??? him: idk what's a virgin seem like) so it's P INTENSE EXPERIENCE, generally thinks his pregnant wife is a murderer for most of his book.

--Derek Craven, Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas. Crimes include: tried to strangle a bitch, was pretty mean to her beforehand, slept with someone other than the heroine, which I don't care about because they weren't together at the time but lots of people do care. I'm sure he's killed people, but a lot of people focus on the strangling thing. Whatever, I'm good with it.

--Edward Alcott, The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath. Crimes include: pretending to be his identical twin to his twin's pregnant wife for MONTHS. MONTHS. THE BABY WAS BORN BY THE TIME SHE FOUND OUT. And he was totally gonna just keep going with it, until she said some dirty shit in his ear and he called her a dirty girl and she went *GASP* MY HUSBAND IS DEAF IN THAT EAR--YOU'RE HIS BROTHER!!!!! What a way to give up the game. I love him, I think he did nothing wrong.

--Duncan Maxwell, Forbidden by Elizabeth Lowell. Crimes include: taking the heroine's virginity when her brother SPECIFICALLY asked him not to, later getting mad at the heroine for shit that honestly wasn't her bad, then being all "I'm gonna marry someone else and keep you as a mistress" lmao foul. Love it.

--Royce Westmoreland, A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught. Crimes include: having coercive sex with his 17 year old heroine, then dragging her to the altar to force her to marry him because the king said he had to and being like "I don't wanna be here either girl". I'm sure he's killed, like, thousands. Yields one of my favorite quotes in romance:

“You are mad!" she snapped, her chest heaving. "And you are a devil!" "And you, my dear," Royce imperturbably replied, "are a bitch." With that, he turned to the horrified friar and unhesitatingly announced, "The lady and I wish to be wed.” 

--Maximus Batten, Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt. Crimes include: it's been a while since I read Maiden Lane, but I believe he slapped his sister because she fucked around on her fiancee... It was a different time. He also fucks the heroine (a loooot) while courting the woman she's the lady's companion of, and clearly plans on just... continuing to do that after marriage. I love him with all my heart.

--Mickey O'Connor, Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt. Crimes include: is a (river) pirate. Makes the heroine look like she cheated on her husband and allows her to be publicly shamed. Abandons his baby (at an orphanage!!!). General criminal activity.

--Valentine Napier, Duke of Sin by Elizabeth Hoyt. Crimes include: kidnapping, murder, blackmail, watched the heroine while living in the walls of his own home like a rat. Made a (joking) comment about defiling his heroine's niece. Is fully certifiable.

--Clayton Madden, Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe. Crimes include: beating people, scamming patrons at his illegal casino, lying to the heroine about his goals the entire book, basically.

--Ewan, Duke of Marwick, Daring and the Duke by Sarah MacLean. Crimes include: sorta trying to kill the heroine? It's a little complex, they were kids. Definitely trying to kill his brothers at points. HE HAD GOOD REASONS IMO.

1983 (FNAF 4). michael, age 15, kills his little brother (evan afton) by mistake with the help of his friends.

1987 (FNAF 2). michael, age 19, works part-time at freddy fazbear's pizzeria, in hopes of getting work experience. he works as a janitor.

1990. elizabeth afton dies. bye bye lil sis i hope nothing bad happens because of this

1991 (FNAF:SL). michael, 23, gets sent to the warehouse for circus baby's pizza world to investigate something to do with elizabeth and baby. gets scooped. L (meanwhile this is probably when fatha gets sprunged. oops!)

1993 (FNAF 1). michael, dead but not, also 25 technically but might as well be 250 with how his skin is rotting, gets a job at the newest freddy fazbears in hopes of finding out more about his father and what happened there. gets haunted. goes full conspiracy theorist

2014 (FNAF 3). fazbears frights happens! unless in a verse stated otherwise, michael is the nightguard, and finally knows what the fuck happened to his dad. hopes to god the fire was enough to kill him. (it wasn't)

2023 (PIZZA SIM). michael gets hired by henry to run his own restaurant. finds father again. also finds the other fucky animatronics. gets burnt to a crisp with the others and hopes to god THIS fire was enough to kill william (it still wasn't.)

??? (SECURITY BREACH AU). no michael is not glamrock freddy. this is not a safe space for glammike. but i believe in an au where michael haunts the pizzaplex because fatha Won't Fucking Die. so he's stuck until he does. it sucks, he hates it, he wants out.

YOOSUNG:

When MC walked through the door with herhair dyed pink, at first Yoosung didn’t notice. He had been playing LOLOL asusual and when MC entered saying “Hiya, Yoosung!” in a bright voice, he turnedhis head only a fraction of an inch to glance at her and say hi back

But after a minute or two he started tothink something was off

He finished killing a monster and turnedaround fully to find MC expectantly waiting for him to make that exact action,her arms crossed with a smirk on her face

IT’S AWESOME omg he loves it. Hepractically flies out of his seat saying “I knewsomething felt different!” and immediately starts playing around with it,looking at it from different angles and lighting

He remembers when he first dyed hishair, it had seemed like such a drastic change but now it felt perfectly normal

It’ll take getting used to because it’sso sudden, but he’s positive he won’t ever get tired of it because he thinksit’s so flippin’ cool

ZEN:

Unlike Yoosung he notices immediatelyand at first his jaw just drops

His hair is a strange color too but he’shad it that way since he was just a little kid. Now without any warningwhatsoever, MC just suddenly has bright blue hair

And for a second he can’t even sayanything which makes MC really worried at first… Does he not like it? Maybe I should’ve mentioned it beforehand…

But Zen reassures her that he reallydoes love it, it was just the unexpected factor that made him have that initialreaction

he wants to style it so badly now 

He takes SO many pictures of it likehundreds of pictures and he stares at them constantly. He’s alwayscomplimenting MC’s new hair and showing it off in the group messenger

She never expected MC to do this, especially without making any mention of it beforehand and at first tbh Jaehee isn’t sure what she thinks about it

It’s just… such a big change. And it’s very noticeable

It is really pretty though and it’s certainly unique, and that’s part of what she adores about MC

So she does warm up to it pretty quickly although she finds herself distracted by it often, not in a bad way but she does like to look at it just because it’s so fun and different

After a while she even starts wondering what color her hair would look best dyed in

He thinks MC looks great nomatter what hair color she has. After the initial surprise of seeing hertentatively walk in the penthouse with red hair, he starts asking all sorts ofquestions about it like how it works and how long it will stay in

But he is open to trying out different colors and insists on coming withher the next time she has it done

Suggests colors that he thinks wouldsuit MC and likes to coordinate outfits to go with it which MC absolutelyadores

Debating whether or not MC would lookgood with white hair because she would match Elizabeth’s pure white color or ifit would remind him too much of Zen and ruin it

But now whenever MC surprises him with anew color he comes to expect it and immediately compliments her and wants totake her shopping

SAEYOUNG:

WHOAAA he adores it

When MC walked into his work room saying“Saeyoung check it out!” he turned around and practically scREAmed like alittle girl

Like Zen, he was naturally born with differentand bright colored hair

Saeyoung’s been suggesting that MCshould dye her hair for a long time actually, but when MC finally did it shereally wanted it to be a surprise, so she picked out a sky blue color that wasstill pretty bright and it turned out gorgeous

He can’t stop looking at it and runninghis hands through it and just generally making a huge deal out of it

Yells at the messenger to look and fromthen on asks if he can come with MC when she dyes her hair next or if he canhelp her do it himself

V:

I’m going to go out on a limb here and saythat V’s hair wasn’t always blue

So MC is extra excited to show off hernew purple hair to him when he comes back from a particularly long work trip

He walks in the room super thrilled tocome back to MC and at first doesn’t even notice the hair because he just wantsto hug her

But when he pulls back he’s an equalmixture of surprised and pleased. When they stand next to each other, V and MClook pretty good together and the colors complement each other quite nicely

Everybody who sees them togethercompliments them on how good they look as a pair and it just makes the two ofthem so happy like MC is so darn proud of herself

V didn’t think it was possible, but hiseyes are drawn to MC even more than they were before

UNKNOWN:

He’s been debating changing his hairback to its natural color ever since the whole hacker situation died down andhe met MC and they started their relationship

And MC actually suggests that they do ittogether, which is a pleasant surprise for him. It makes him feel a lot morecomfortable about the situation to not do it alone, even though technically he’schanging it back to the way it was and MC is doing the opposite

She decides to get a slightly lightercolor than Saeyoung and Saeran’s deep red which is so cute to Saeran but hedoesn’t admit it

There’s a picture of them standingtogether with their new hair and looking really happy and Saeran looks at itall the time, whenever he can

He decides this is one of his favoritememories that he’s made with MC at his side
