“no, i don’t hate you.” — steve
it makes her smile. the words that come out of steve’s mouth, it’s the nervous smile. the one that tends to hide behind pursed lips. it’s all smoke and mirrors with nancy wheeler. not because she is dishonest, or wants to trick people. she just has learned that walls somewhat protect her. but with jon so far away. and with everything reaching it’s boiling point, steve and her fell apart. with good reason. if steve hated her, nancy would understand. they never talked about what happened. steve didn’t want to and nancy didn’t push it. she’s aware. she knows somewhere along the lines she messed up. and that’s, easy to see now. everything so far away and behind them. time has done wonders for steve harrington. she can tell. but it’s her who feels lost now. she always knows what she wants. she never really does. she’s looking at him, with baby doll eyes. a thousand emotions fighting their way to the surface. she let’s out a sigh, uncrosses her arms then. hugs herself like she usually does. let’s the silence build up between them. most of the times she would bottle things up. she has been doing that, her feelings come out in bursts more than anything else really.
“that’s...comforting to hear.” she starts, it’s honest. nods a little when she says it “-i mean, i wouldn’t blame you if you did. but i’m glad you don’t.” stares out. hesitates in talking more. her alone with her thoughts. how it usually is. but loneliness could be such a burden. she needed to start dealing with it. “i should...reach out more.” leaves the thought unfinished, vague and open. but nancy wheeler is a lock with no key at times. what she means is, that she should reach out more, because whether they work or not or whether she is dating jon, that doesn’t phase out the fact that she is alone here now. she could use a friend. and steve maybe could too.
