He’s kept a few enchanted objects over the years that were likely better off destroyed — but that’s neither here nor there! “It’s over five hundred years old, and used for sacrificial magic.” His gaze flickers back to Elayne. “No wonder that coven of witches is after you.” Or is there more to it than that?

“Just try to stay still, all right?” Kasper’s tone is soft as he and Katarzyna sit with their backs pressed to the building behind them. Although he can feel the sensation of the chill bricks he’s leaning against through his shirt, he resists the urge to become distracted by it as his index finger lightly traces along the veins in his sister’s left forearm. The blood vessels appear diluted by an inky blackness beneath her skin — poison, from the other witch they’re attempting to catch who’s also using a structure as a shield just as they are not too far away. His lips press into a firm line; the toxin is taking longer for him to purify than he had anticipated. “Damn, his magic’s even murkier than they told us it’d it be.” Currently, that’s the only reason Kasper cares whether they catch him alive or not; it’s rare that they stumble across unusual magic sources after hundreds of years at this, and he’s curious. 

Once the evidence of it is visibly gone, his gaze shifts to Katarzyna’s visage. “Did I get it all, or do you still feel it?”

The less this girl knew about the knife in Kasper's hand, the better. Perhaps her safety depended on it in more ways than one, yet she didn't appear as concerned with her own well-fare than he would have expected. Nevertheless, his tongue loosened a bit more than maybe it should as her pretty eyes lingered on his. "When I told you before that this is used for sacrificial magic, I didn't mean only in a ritualistic sense. Instead of just killing a person to complete a spell, the blade binds its victims to it so their now undead bodies are beholden to the wielder — if they're aware of how to use it correctly, that is." Then, Kasper paused for a beat, his gaze trailing along her features. "But you must've at least known it was important, or you wouldn't have bothered to take it for yourself, I wouldn't think." She was very interesting, wasn't she? Drawing the weapon a little closer to himself with a hint of a grin lilting his lips, he continued, "So, why did you?"
