clean up!

busboy!mingyu + waitress!you

so you and mingyu work in the same diner in the same town

you've been working there for nearly 2 years when mingyu applies and gets a job as one of the busboys

all the girls and guys stare at him when he's making his rounds, taking dishes and wiping down tables

his height is handy when you need help to reach something up on the shelves

which makes him a favorite among the cooks in the kitchen when they can't reach stuff

and among the waiters/waitresses when you need to pass out plates at tables bc of his long arms

your manager thinks of promoting mingyu to a waiter, but then they remember how clumsy he is

he broke five dishes within his first week bc he kept forgetting his nonslip shoes

okay, even when he got his nonslip shoes, he kept breaking things

mingyu also drenched your hostess with water bc he tripped over a leg of a chair that he forgot to push in

but your manager doesn't fire him bc he does bring in a lot of customers with just his looks and charming smile

he usually has his hair down but the days his hair is slicked up, everyone compliments him

"you could say I clean up well, right?? :) "

tHIS DORKKK

all the old ladies always chat him up and he'll make polite conversation back to them

when a baby makes a mess at a table and there's mashed peas and potatoes everywhere, mingyu is immediately there with a clean rag for the table and he's playing peek-a-boo with the child

his friends all come and visit him during his hours

one of his bestest friends, wonwoo, is always there during the tail-end of mingyu's shift

he's reading in a booth in the back and mingyu is always stopping by the table and bothering him instead of vice versa

"wonwoo, stop bothering mingyu, he's on duty rn"

"he's bothering mE!" wonwoo says, "he stops by every 5 minutes"

"mingyu, shouldn't you be working?"

mingyu just pulls out an innocent look, "he's lonely tho"

when you're both closing at night, he'll be the one wiping down the windows and closing all the blinds and cleaning while you're doing most of the money responsibilities and stocking up behind the counter

you vERY CAREFully hand him dishes to stack up in the back bc you can't reach

when mopping the floors, he'll forget that his own shoes are dirty and create tracks all over the place

when you finish locking everything up, he always walks you to your car

he usually flirts with you but doesn't know when or how to exactly

mingyu has a sure fire way tho: he'll purposely places things on the top shelf so you have to ask him for help

"mingyu, can you get that box of straws from the top, please?"

"sure, no problem;) "

"how is my apron on the top shelf? I thought I put it on the hook before I went to the restroom???"

and there's mingyu to your rescue

"you need something (y/n)? ;)))) "

mingyu's always on the tables you serve, so that he's the one helping pass out food and clean up

he'll look at you with puppy eyes and stare after you during his shift when sitting with wonwoo he knows he's supposed to be working

he's just in love with you and your strong, organized professional demeanor and how you always have a smile on your face, how easygoing and sweet you are with all the customers, how nothing like a rude customer can get you down

and wonwoo is like 'just ask her out'

and mingyu launches into a long list of why he can't

wonwoo threatens to tell you that the first time mingyu met you, he sneezed into his hand and shook yours and then you used that hand to help serve food

they fight with silent looks till wonwoo waves you over and nudges his bestie to speak up

“(y/n)," he'll start out in a deep breath. "will you fdjskljfdsafj"

he's mumbling out the last part till you have him repeat it with a clear voice

"yes, mingyu. I will go out with you"

"wait what?"

"now get to work, you can't take me out on a date here at work"

"or can I?" he mumbles under his breath as you walk away

the night ends well and mingyu walks you back to your car and you two set a date for your date

when you said yes to a date, you honestly didn't know what to expect

he texts you "what's your favorite food in the whole wide world?"

you text him your answer and you don't get anything back but a "got it :) " one hour later

he picks you up at 8pm sharp

and you're definitely impressed with his choice of a suit and tie

to which he'll reply

"you could say I clean up well ;) "

you almost threaten to close the door in his face

but he blindfolds you and takes your hand and drives you to the diner

bc (he reasons that) 1) it's the place where you first met and

2) he has a surprise!!

he takes you to the back of the kitchen and just has you sit on the counter while he cooks up your dinner

when he takes off his suit jacket and rolls up the sleevES

LoRD HELP

you both talk about your day, his day, the newest gossip from the regulars

y'all talk about everything and anything

he narrates what's he's doing as he's cooking and does all the cool tricks at the stove

he's been lowkey practicing that at home

what a dorkkk

you're v surprised nothing is on fire or charred

the smell is amazing, and you already feel your mouth watering

he gives you a taste test of everything before the dish is put together

he plates his creations and carries it to your guys' booth in the back

one of the dishes is your favorite food in the entire world, but with a special gourmet twist to it

mingyu feeds you but then he shovels a giant forkful into your mouth

how romantic;)

after dinner, he slides into the same side of the booth and y'all kick your feet up on the opposite seat and you lay your head on his shoulder and just sit there in food coma bliss

he plays with your hand and talks about other recipes he's planning to cook, how he prepped for this dinner all day and made the same dishes for his friends (and how they dEVOURED EVERYTHING WITHIN MINUTES)

just when you're about to fall asleep bc food coma and bc mingyu's voice is just so relaxing and so niceee, he wakes you up to clean up before it gets too late

and you know what sucks now?

you have to do dishes

bc mingyu played chef and waiter, it's your turn to play busgirl

mingyu sits on the counter and watches (with heart eyes) as the soapy bubbles reach your elbows and you splash water all over the apron that's covering your dress

when you drop a plate into the sink, the water comes up and splashes some bubbles and soapy water in your eye

you reflexively take a step back and shut your eyes

but suddenly you feel a large hand on your cheek, someone blowing air over your eyes and forehead

when the stinging in your eyes stops and you open your eyes, mingyu is standing so close to you and you suddenly forget about sound of the running water and how your dress is soaked with dish water when his lips are on yours

and that’s how you're standing in the back of a diner kitchen kissing kim mingyu till you feel your shoes soak in water

the sink is flooding and mingyu’s feet are exactly over where the stupid floor drain is, blocking the only draining system

you both spend time cleaning the kitchen so that your manager has no idea what happened

bc turns out mingyu “borrowed” your manager’s spare keys without his knowledge

which makes y'all lowkey trespassing

this bean will literally do anything for you, even it means a little breaking and entering into the workplace

he kisses you again in his car, right before you have to get out

the next day at work, you two are in such a chipper moods and everyone knows why

mostly bc your manager reprimanded you two in their office bc your diner does have cameras everywhere and literally everyone put their ears to the door to listen in

but they're okay with you two dating as long as y'all remain professional in the workplace

mingyu does sneak you pecks on the cheek everytime you pass each other in the kitchen

but his clumsy butt ends up missing bc you're in such a rush, he kisses your ear

nothing really changes except there's more diner dates, but this time with your boss's permission!!!

when you two are closing, mingyu will sing at the top of his lungs with the radio up and dance recklessly with the mop

he's always cooking in the back of the kitchen, even when he's not supposed to be cooking in the back

but his stuff is always delicious, no one yells at him

he puts more stuff on the top shelf to annoy you

"miNGYU, STOP PUTTING MY APRON UP THERE"

you threaten to call someone else over to help you or buy a stool to keep on hand

and he promises to stop doing it… so much;)

your breaks are spent with wonwoo and mingyu in the booth, and mingyu can't keep his eyes off you nor wonwoo

he just loves his best friend and his best girlfriend so muchhhh

he is such a dork

this tall string bean will make work so busy with his handsomeness and highkey annoy you during your shift while also winning over all the men, women, and children who walk through that door

he'll cook so much for you and spoonfeed you a giant bite of food, you'll never go hungry

kim mingyu will always break a plate once a week but he'll never break your heart :)
