THE CROWD IS ALIGHT WITH ENERGY.

nerves are at an all time high, thrumming with anticipation. fifty-two contestants had danced, sung, and rapped their way throughout the competition, and through unfortunate trials and tribulations, only eight girls stand on the stage after the last challenge. all eight stand hand in hand with varying degrees of excitement and emotion bright on their faces. these eight had been chosen by fans, proving their worth throughout the stressful twelve week run. and now it was time to see who the public had chosen as their aces.

the show’s host, former hotshot idol turned renown actress OH HYEWON, walks onto the stage to thunderous applause, smiling and waving in a stunning gown. she waits for the crowd to die down before addressing the masses.

“these past few weeks have been stressful,” she begins, her steady voice amplified by the mic pinned to her front. “talented girls with dreams let go so early. but i hope they know that if you have the passion for it, this is not the end of your career. let us give a round of applause for them.”

the crowd erupts into cheers as most of the eliminated girls stand up to bow and wave, tears in some of their eyes. the eight on stage wave to them, causing the crowd to cheer even louder.

“hopefully the companies watching have seen your efforts and you will debut on your own time. but as this is the finale, i will announce the rankings for the final time.”

the lighting dims to something more serious, tension filling the air as hyewon accepts an envelope from a staff member.

“as you all know, only the top four will debut. so with that being said, in eight place we have… PARK DAEUN!”

daeun lowers her head, her bangs falling forward to hide her emotion. the girls next to her immediately begin to comfort her, but everyone else hangs on to hyewon’s next words. with time, the spotlight on daeun dims, shrouded her in darkness.

“in seventh place, KANG DAROREUM!”

hyewon’s expression softens in sympathy when daroreum immediately bursts into tears, daeun reaching over to squeeze her hand in solidarity as the other girl’s spotlight dims above her as well. despite the darkness, the silhouettes of the girls can just barely be made out to be holding on to each other for comfort.

“sixth place goes to.. YAMADA EMI!”

emi’s expression is stone still, seemingly not surprised, but for the briefest of moments annoyance flashes on her features before smoothing out once more. her spotlight dims above her without a single tear shed.

“we now have five contestants left—CHOI JANELLE, AHN EUNJI, ITO YUINA, PARK AHYEON, and HEO MICHA. well done for making it this far.” hyewon smiles as the audience cheers for them, the girl’s families appearing on the jumbo screens before focusing on the mc once more.

the girls all step forward once told to with joined hands, nervously smiling at one another. hyewon scans the envelope to reveal the fifth ranking contestant—and her smile wavers.

“in fifth place,” she begins, her smile perfect despite it not reaching her eyes, “..is CHOI JANELLE.”

the arena is stunned into silence before all hell breaks loose.

janelle crumples to the ground in a heap of tears, sobs wracking her entire body as ahyeon and yuina immediately fall with her to comfort her. security leaps into action as a member of the crowd surges to physically grab eunji, shaking her as they spit obscenities in her face. eunji falls back into micha when the offender is pried off of her, quivering in the older girl’s arms as micha tries her best to calm her down.

hyewon immediately jumps to comfort eunji, ensuring she’s okay before ushering her and micha off stage to safety and gently moving to comfort janelle herself. the other rankings long forgotten, the live broadcast cuts to the final rankings of the show.

netizens were quick to take to social media to express their discontent and outrage towards the events that had transpired, accusations of rigging and favoritism taking the forefront.

nevertheless, a few hours after the show drew to a close, KQ announced that the girls would officially be debuting with a single sometime early june.

A few years ago, we wrote an article on the mysterious trainees the new company had after a particular dance video went viral featuring the eight men you know and love today dressed in black with hats obscuring their faces. Curiosity getting the best of the public, it wasn’t long until the world was introduced to KQ’s FELLAZ. Fast forward to now, and ATEEZ is teasing a sixth mini album and is garnering budding fame in the western sphere for their loud and rambunctious sound. But ATEEZ is not the only one with news this month.

KQ Entertainment announced news of a survival show earlier this month, releasing a smattering of peculiar images showcasing the show’s theme. Based on fan perception and online digging, the show features eight unknown female trainees of their own as well as a whopping FOURTY FOUR external contestants from various other companies. Rumors of who the lineup would consist of were heavily debated online, from JANELLE of TWINSTAR’s TEENSTAR making waves due to her expressing a return to the entertainment industry to KANG DAROREUM, a rumored nepo baby born in the States and daughter of a producer at SM. Word on the eight that the public is now calling KQ LADIEZ has not been released to the public.
