Sonic Seducer, June 2015
The exotic blossoms of a band break: After Rammstein said goodbye to the collective scene after their furious final show at the Wacken Open Air in summer 2013, the individual group members are slowly but surely returning with solo projects. While guitarist Richard Kruspe kicked things off last fall with the release of the second long play from his all-star artist collective Emigrate, spring 2015 will also be dominated by the Berlin industrial metallers. While keyboardist Flake Lorenz is trying his hand at writing books, frontman Till Lindemann is also letting the sparks fly again in every way possible: On the debut album of his solo effort of the same name, the flame-retardant muscle man has enlisted the help of Hypocrisy/Pain mastermind Peter Tägtgren. Together we'll be firing on all cylinders for 'Skills In Pills' from June onwards - and all in English!
The good news at the very beginning: the all-clear can be given. Despite all the rumors and speculation, the founding of Lindemann does not mean the end of Rammstein, as Till solemnly explains in the preliminary discussion about his latest field of musical activity. "Peter and I have been planning this project for ages. We had to keep postponing it because of time constraints — either he was on tour or I was busy with Rammstein. For me, Lindemann means more of a vacation from Rammstein. 15 years together is a long time. During this time we lived almost exclusively for the band and neglected our private life a lot. Some band members have small children and we are aware that we need more time for our families and whatever else is going on these days. It was urgently necessary for some of us to take a longer break from Rammstein. A break during which you can collect yourself again and really relax without the next appointments being on your calendar."
Anyone who knows the New German Hardness pioneer and the Scandinavian death metal veteran knows: you won't rest for a single minute on the twelve tracks of 'Skills In Pills'. On the contrary. As the names Rammstein and Pain suggest, on their first album the Lindemann/Tägtgren duo created a darkly bombastic, subtly electro-fied hybrid monster that stomps through the metal forest with glowing eyes, broad shoulders and a dirty grin to make his way through the mainstream and underground regardless of the losses. A real man's record, the result of a German-Swedish friendship that has now lasted a good 15 years. A long shared history that, according to Tägtgren, "starts with bar fights and continues through vomiting in Chinese restaurants" to the present day. Sounds too weird for a PR stunt, as Lindemann confirms. "We met when Flake and I got into a fight in a small bar somewhere in the north of Sweden. Peter somehow got in the way. I previously only knew him from seeing metal clubs and bars in Stockholm, but had never spoken to him. Back then we hung out a lot with the guys from Clawfinger and our mixer at the time, Stefan Glaumann. A time when I was out every night and knew all the clubs. Peter and his brother really saved our asses in that fight and kept us out of a lot of trouble. He calmed the heated tempers and said to these guys: By the way, that's the singer from Rammstein, they're okay. Afterwards there was home-made beer for the whole house. Then we all crashed really badly together."
Instead of burning off their excess energy in trendy shops in Stockholm, LindGren now prefers to spend her time on 'Skills In Pills'. With instant neckbreakers like 'Ladyboy' and 'Golden Shower', the bizarre fetish metal smash 'Fat' and the polarizing family planning guide 'Praise Abort(ion'), the duo will be open-mouthed and perhaps one or two scandal headlines from June onwards in relevant tabloids. The new pieces are based on Till Lindemann's notorious, deep black humor, which was often misunderstood in Rammstein and in his two previously published volumes of poetry. In English form, all non-German-speaking regions now have the chance for the first time to immerse yourself in the eerie and beautiful world of thoughts of the R-rolling fifty-something. Brutal humor for everyone.
"It’s just part of my job. I've always tried to let a certain kind of humor shine through; even if sometimes it wasn't much fun to record the songs. I can't judge whether this is the light, carefree side of Till Lindemann. The biggest difference is definitely that the songs are in English - a completely new field of work that I'm working on today."
The album was created in Peter Tägtgren's semi-legendary The Abyss studio in the tiny village of Pärlby, around 200 kilometers northwest of Stockholm. Where over the last twenty years milestones have been recorded by mostly black metal formations such as Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral and of course Peter's numerous in-house projects, last summer they clubbed their way through their collection of acoustic pills in a relaxed mood. Relaxed feel-good atmosphere à la Lindemann. "In his studio you can literally throw a fishing rod into the water from the comfort of your own home. Peter did the editing of the songs and I fished during my breaks from recording. We approached this project without any great expectations or plans. We just wanted to do something together. Everything has developed step by step into what you can hear and see today. Initially we thought we'd record a few songs and put them online to see how people would react."
"We are very serious about music," concludes Peter Tägtgren. "We are extremely proud of what we have created together with this album. But at the moment the project is still in its infancy. You have to see how much the audience likes our work. If it goes down well out there, I could imagine playing concerts with Lindemann. But at the moment it is still too early to judge. We'll wait for the feedback first."
The Lindemann album ‘Skills In Pills’ will be released in June; The detailed interview with Till and Peter can be found in the next issue.

Recently I've gotten into Gerame, so you have any good fanfic recommendations?
YES 👏I 👏 DO! 👏
I usually get all of my Germerica fanfics from AO3, but there are a few good ones on fanfiction.net and, if you're REALLY desperate, Wattpad.
For now, I'll only be listing a few I really enjoyed on AO3.
If you're looking for some fluff, I recommend "Apfelkuchen or Apple Pie" (America teaches Germany how to make an apple pie), "Paper and Pens" (Germany, the King of Hearts, writes all of his frustrations into a letter that accidentally gets sent to America, the King of Spades), and "Family Ties" (America introduces Germany to his guardians, France and England, and he tries to make them get along with Germany. It has a side of PruCan as well.)
If you're looking for something with a little angst, I recommend "Not Tomorrow" (America is hired as a body guard to protect Germany from his psychotic ex-husband, Russia), "Symphony" (America and Germany help guide each other through their PTSD with the power of love and dogs), and Acceleration Waltz (America and Germany fight anti-German sentiments of the 1950s together).
If, for whatever reason, you're looking for something "spicy", I recommend "I Want to See Everything" (America and Germany have some "fun" together in the open spring air of Berlin. Privately, of course).
If you got any questions, let me know!

Klara Lidén, "Untitled (Trashcans)" Mixed media.
Klara Lidén (b. 1979) is an artist who has truly broken through, and is now regularly exhibited internationally. Galleries in Berlin, London and New York represent her and she has already had several important museum exhibitions, including a solo show at the New Museum in New York, curated by Massimiliano Gioni of the Venice Biennale. Furthermore her work has been shown at the Serpentine Gallery in London, at MoMa in New York, at Jeu de Paume and Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and at the Venice Biennale.
The art world's heavyweight curator, Hans Ulrich Obrist, has spoken of her as "one of the great artists of the 21st century".
In November 2013 Klara Lidén was awarded the prestigious Friends of Moderna Museet Sculpture Prize. The jury's statement read as follows:
"Klara Lidén is an artist who explores with precision the poetic and political possibilities of a space. Her sculptural works involve the body, architecture and the city in their examinations of the limits of the public and the private. In a number of exhibitions shown across the world she has succeeded in extracting surprising artistic energies from everyday materials and spaces."
Both in her films and her installations we encounter an artist who refuses to exist in a mundane system and who refuses to be engulfed by societal and cultural structures. She de-constructs and re-constructs, she removes something from its context and gives it a new dwelling in another place.
Klara Lidén's work was shown at Moderna Museet for the first time in 2007. She called her exhibition "Unheimlich Manöver". What she did was to empty her flat of its entire contents. Every single thing was packed and pressed together into a gigantic mass, which was then displayed at the museum.
After her big international breakthrough, including a special mention at the 2011 Venice Biennale, where she exhibited the auction's "(Untitled) Trashcan", Lidén had her second exhibition at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. This time she blocked the entrance to the exhibition space, forcing the visitors to go back through the main entry and instead, in order to access the rooms where a comprehensive retrospective exhibition was laid out, enter by a side door. Through seemingly simple methods she guides the viewer down new tracks, often making us realise, with both humour and a certain sense of blushing shame, what creatures of habit we are and how easy it is to upset what we expect of the world around us.

“Haus Bastian / Bastian Gallery”, Am Kupfergraben 10, 10117, Berlin, Germany [2003-2007] _ Architect: David Chipperfield _ Photos by Spyros Kaprinis [25.01.2023].
“The gallery building ‘Am Kupfergraben 10’, completed in 2007, is located on the Kupfergraben canal, a prominent site overlooking the Lustgarten and Museum Island in Berlin. It occupies the footprint of a building destroyed in World War II. A gap remained for decades, and just over twelve years after reunification, a private competition was held for a project that would complete the city façade facing the Neues Museum. It is a contemporary building that reacts to its immediate historic context, referencing the past without replicating it. The structure is made of reinforced concrete, while the façades are brick masonry interspersed with reconstituted stone with no visible  expansion joints. A seemingly monochrome façade is achieved by using salvaged bricks ranging in colour from red to ochre, carefully cleaned and laid in English bond, and subsequently pointed and slurried in a single operation.”

János Másik - Trance Balance - remastered reissue of 1989 album from Hungary; with its mixture of rock, electronics, and world music it sounds like a Crammed Discs release of that era
Foam On A Wave is proud to present the first international issue of this chameleonic, shapeshifting record, from one of Hungary's most prolific musician and film composers, János Másik. At times it calls to mind 23 Skidoo, Talking Heads and The Pop Group, at others it sits in its own corner of the room. 1989 was a revolutionary year. For many in the West the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the Autumn of Nations; the End of History and the triumph of progress. In Hungary, the year saw the Round Table Talks establish a new multi-party democracy and the effective end of communist rule after 40 years - Rendszerváltás; 'regime change'. It's hard to ignore these cataclysms while listening to Trance Balance. After all, its initial release was on Hungaropop, 'one of the first privately owned, independent labels launched after the liberalization of the market in Warsaw Pact-era Hungary' (we highly recommend delving further into their remarkable catalogue). Is music always an expression of the shifting political landscape? Or does it exist beyond it? These are all questions that percolate as the needle drops. Freud, a ghost from the Dual-Monarchy, runs in streams through the album sleeve. Trance Balance itself is reminiscent of a trip, transporting the individual through a semi-conscious dreamland. Synthesisers woosh and swirl overhead. The percussion is propulsive. Voices take on the guise of characters, guide-like, beckoning. There are Brechtian interludes where the musical fourth wall is punctured. At points, the listener awakes to playful refrains, bohemian folk song and calypso detours. This is a masterwork of musical surrealism - an act of pure intuition - free and honest. A manifesto in all but words. We'll let you decide how much it has to do with politics.

Top 10 Tips for Studying Abroad in Germany
Tumblr media
Germany, known for its prestigious universities, vibrant culture, and rich history, is a popular destination for international students. To ensure a successful and enriching experience, it’s essential to be well-prepared. Here are the top 10 tips for studying abroad in Germany, guided by insights from German Education Consultants and other experts in the field.
1. Understand the German Education System
Germany's education system is renowned for its high standards and unique structure. Familiarize yourself with how it works to maximize your academic success.
German Study Abroad Consultants emphasize that Germany offers a variety of programs in both public and private institutions. Public universities are often tuition-free, which attracts students from around the globe. However, understanding the application process and academic expectations is crucial.
Additionally, many programs are taught in German, though there is a growing number of English-taught courses. Higher Education Consultants recommend checking language requirements early and preparing accordingly.
2. Learn the Language
While many Germans speak English, having a good command of the German language can significantly enhance your experience.
Engaging with locals, understanding lectures, and navigating daily life becomes much easier with some knowledge of German. Study in Germany Consultants suggest enrolling in language courses before and during your stay. Not only does this aid in your studies, but it also enriches your cultural experience.
Moreover, proficiency in German can open up more academic opportunities and improve your chances of securing internships or part-time jobs, making it a worthwhile investment.
3. Financial Planning and Budgeting
Studying abroad can be financially challenging. Proper budgeting is essential to ensure you can focus on your studies without financial stress.
Start by researching the cost of living in the city where you plan to study. Berlin, Munich, and Frankfurt, for example, have different living costs. Overseas Education Consultants often provide detailed cost estimates to help you plan better.
Consider all expenses, including accommodation, food, transportation, health insurance, and leisure activities. Applying for scholarships and part-time jobs can also help alleviate financial burdens. Many German Study Abroad Consultants can guide you through the scholarship application process.
4. Accommodation: Finding the Right Place
Securing suitable accommodation should be a top priority. The demand for student housing in Germany is high, so start your search early.
You have several options: student dormitories, private apartments, and shared flats (WG, or Wohngemeinschaft). German Education Consultants often recommend student dormitories for their affordability and social opportunities. However, if you prefer more privacy, a private apartment might be better suited to your needs.
Remember, location matters. Proximity to your university and essential services can save time and money. Study Abroad Consultants can offer valuable insights and connections to trusted housing providers.
5. Navigating the Visa Process
The visa application process can be daunting, but it’s a critical step. Start early and ensure you have all the required documents.
Typically, you’ll need proof of university admission, financial resources, health insurance, and a valid passport. Higher Education Consultants can help you navigate the specific requirements and timelines to avoid any delays.
Once in Germany, remember to register with the local authorities and secure a residence permit. German Study Abroad Consultants often provide checklists and support to ensure compliance with local regulations.
6. Health Insurance: A Necessity
Health insurance is mandatory for all students in Germany. Understanding your options can save you from unexpected medical expenses.
Germany offers two types of health insurance: public and private. Most students opt for public insurance due to its comprehensive coverage and affordability. However, some international students might be eligible for private insurance, depending on their circumstances. Study in Germany Consultants can provide tailored advice based on your needs.
Ensure your health insurance covers you from the moment you arrive in Germany. This proactive step ensures you are protected right from the start.
7. Embrace the Culture
Germany has a rich cultural heritage and vibrant social life. Immersing yourself in the local culture can make your stay more enjoyable and fulfilling.
Participate in local festivals, visit historical sites, and engage with German traditions. Overseas Education Consultants encourage students to join clubs and societies to meet new people and make lasting friendships.
Understanding cultural norms and etiquette is also important. Simple gestures like greeting people with a handshake and being punctual are highly valued in Germany. Higher Education Consultants often organize orientation sessions to help you adapt to the new cultural environment.
8. Academic Excellence and Resources
German universities are known for their rigorous academic standards. Utilize the resources available to excel in your studies.
Most universities offer extensive libraries, research facilities, and support services. Take advantage of these resources to enhance your learning experience. German Study Abroad Consultants recommend attending orientation programs to familiarize yourself with these facilities.
Additionally, building a good relationship with your professors can be beneficial. They can provide valuable guidance, support, and potentially even opportunities for research projects or internships.
9. Networking and Career Opportunities
Building a professional network is crucial for your future career. Germany offers numerous opportunities to connect with industry professionals and gain practical experience.
Attend career fairs, workshops, and networking events organized by your university. Study Abroad Consultants can often connect you with alumni networks and industry contacts.
Internships and part-time jobs not only provide financial support but also enhance your resume. Many Higher Education Consultants have partnerships with companies and organizations, helping students find suitable positions.
Conclusion
Studying abroad in Germany can be a transformative experience, offering academic excellence and cultural enrichment. By following these tips and leveraging the expertise of Overseas Education Consultants, and other professionals, you can navigate this journey successfully. Prepare well, embrace the opportunities, and enjoy the unique experience that studying in Germany offers.

Are you considering pursuing a Master's in Finance in Germany? With its world-renowned educational institutions, vibrant cities, and diverse culture, Germany has become a popular destination for international students seeking quality education at an affordable cost. But, understanding the expenses involved is crucial for planning your studies abroad. In this guide, we explore the cost of Master in Finance in Germany, exploring tuition fees, living expenses, and potential financial aid options.
Tuition Fees
Tuition cost of Master in Finance in Germany can vary depending on the institution and whether it is a public or private university. The good news is that many public universities in Germany offer Master's programs with low to no tuition fees for both domestic and international students. This is a significant advantage compared to studying in countries like the United States or the United Kingdom, where tuition fees can be higher.
For international students pursuing a Master's in Finance at a public university in Germany, you can expect to pay nominal administrative fees, typically ranging from €150 to €400 per semester. These fees cover administrative costs and include contributions to student services, such as transportation tickets and access to university facilities.
