Four Lashkar-e-Toiba militants killed in two encounters in Kashmir

Four Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, including two who were involved in killing a female TV artist, were killed in two separate encounters in Pulwama and Srinagar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday.

An encounter broke out at Aganhanzipora locality in Awantipora area of Pulwama district late on Thursday night, a police spokesman said.

He said two ultras, who were responsible for killing TV artist Amreen Bhat in Budgam district a day earlier, were trapped in the cordon.

"Both killed newly joined local #terrorists identified as Shahid Mushtaq Bhat R/O Hafroo Chadoora #Budgam & Farhan Habib R/O Hakripora #Pulwama. They had #killed TV artist on the instruction of LeT Cmdr Lateef. 01 AK 56 rifle, 4 magazines and a pistol recovered," IGP Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar tweeted.

Another encounter broke out in Soura area of Srinagar city where two LeT ultras were shot dead, the police said.

"10 #terrorists including 3 from JeM & 7 from LeT #terror outfits killed in 3 days in #Kashmir valley. Heinous #murder case of late Ambreen bhat solved in 24 hours," Kumar said in another tweet.

In Jammu and Kashmir today, as in the Punjab during the height of militancy, the judiciary was frozen into inaction by what it perceived as its duty in the face of armed militancy. As a result, it lost the love and the faith of the people. This is a dangerous alienation. It is when times are most difficult that the judges are required to stand firm and take a stand to uphold the Constitution come what may. For, when constitutional protection disappears, the end of democracy becomes an immediate possibility.

Whenever I discuss Kashmir or Israel, I end up making every side mad.

I tried writing an article on it and pitched it to left and right-leaning publications. Both said that it didn't "match the coverage we're looking for", or words to that effect. Maybe I'm just a bad writer.

But I think the reason that my opinions on Kashmir/Israel are so annoying to so many people is because I don't follow the usual BS narratives.

The article I wanted to write was a plea for honesty of purpose. That's because no one and I mean NO ONE is willing to just admit the reason they support a side in those conflicts is because geopolitics/nationalism/religion or — most likely — the person who first introduced them to the issue had this bias and so they have it too.

Just be honest and internally consistent with your stance, that's all I ask.

Say what you want about the utter immorality of Athens in the Seige of Melos, at least Thucydides was honest when he said of their motivation, "The strong do what they can, the weak endure what they must."

It's an ideology I disagree with, but fuck it, at least it's honest.

Kashmir and Israel are both situations where two immoral actors are fighting over the moral (and in Kashmir's case, literal) high ground.

It's all just bullshit reasons versus different bullshit as both bullshit peddlers use their bullshit reasons trying to make themselves look like the good guys™️ and make the other side look evil when the truth is that both sides are doing this for power and nothing else.

#I honestly don't give a shit who Kashmir belongs to or what Kashmiris want as long as I get to visit every now and then #without being afraid of getting shot or blown up by militants who are totally not trained and armed by the Pakistani army #or by the Indian army who have never committed human rights violations in Kashmir #india #Pakistan #desiblr #desi tumblr

Kashmir: ‘We fear that bullet will come out from trees & don’t want to stay in this village’

Sunita’s husband Sanjay Sharma, a bank guard, was shot dead by militants a few hundred yards away from his residence at Achen village on Sunday morning.

PULWAMA: After living fearlessly in the village for nearly three decades post the eruption of militancy, fear and panic has gripped the lone Pandit family of Sharma’s living in this hamlet after the killing of one of their family member Sanjay Sharma by militants last week. Now, they want to shift to Jammu for their safety.

“We did not gain anything from staying back and not migrating after the eruption of militancy in the 1990. Instead, we lost a family member to bullets! We got this reward for staying here and not migrating,” Sanjay Sharma’s widow Sunita Sharma told this newspaper.

Sunita’s husband Sanjay Sharma, a bank guard, was shot dead by militants a few hundred yards away from his residence at Achen village on Sunday morning. She said the family had no enmity with anybody and they were enjoying a cordial bond with the local Muslim population, who stood by the family in this hour of grief.

“We now fear living here. We don’t want to live here anymore. We want to shift to Jammu. We urge the government to provide us accommodation (quarters) there so that we can settle and live and take care of our children without any fear or threat,” said Sunita.

Besides, widow and three brothers, Sanjay has left behind three minor kids — Sakshi Sharma (class 4th student), Diksha Sharma (class 1st) and 2 and a half years old son Shryan Sharma.

“My husband was a poor man. He was working as a bank guard. What will happen to us now? How will I look after my kids as I don’t have any resources,” said Sunita.

She urged the government to provide her government job and take care of the educational expenses of her kids.

Sanjay’s elder brother Bhushan Sharma said the family now regrets staying back in Valley after eruption of militancy in 1990. “Had we migrated also, we would not have lost our brother.”

He said they were living fearlessly in the village since the 1990s and never faced any threat from anybody.

“But after Sanjay’s killing, we feel frightened about staying in the village. We don’t trust anybody now. We fear going out. We fear bullets will come out from trees to kill us,” Bhushan said.

“There is only one solution to overcome this fear and that is our relocation to Jammu. The government should facilitate our relocation to Jammu and provide us accommodation there,” Bhushan said.

He said they fear that if they stay behind another incident can happen tomorrow.

“My son and daughter work in Revenue department. Now the family cannot allow them to go to their offices. We request the government to provide us a quarter in Jammu, compensation to the family, job to the widow of the slain and taking care of the education expenses of Sanjay’s children,” Bhushan added.
