Really don't want to add to the discourse, but although YouTube is accessible and "free," it really sucks. Like YouTube is not good. Things cost money, and YouTube doesn't provide much in that regard. I'm also very sad Watcher is leaving YouTube (I don't even know if I'll follow them) but I can understand why they want to get away from YouTube. I love YouTube as much as any other content consumer but yeah....

#i'm going to start by saying that i understand that there are people who can't afford the subscription #and that i feel like they could have done this in a better way #but i also understand where they are coming from #they're not doing this to get rich #they're doing this to be able to do what they've always wanted to do #from the beginning their goal was to make high quality videos #and that requires money #and the whole reason they created watcher was because they wanted to do their own thing #and if they need to be pleasing the advertisers they can't really do that #i recognize that i'm lucky to be able to afford the monthly payment #but i'd rather pay that straight to the creators #than let google get get such a big portion of the money that should go to them #or see them doing another ad for temu or another pointless or shitty company #it'll be nice to be able to watch the videos without so many youtube ads and in-video ads #but i am worried #they must have done math to make this decision #but seeing the comments #i fear the math has been wrong
