okay speaking of a different beloved author from my youth, the best (yes, the BEST) scene from Garth Nix’s Abhorsen series is when Sabriel meets Touchstone. Like Sabriel falls into this hole in the ground and her cat turns into a giant demon. (these things happen sometimes, ya know?) she finds a statue of a hot naked guy and does necromancy at it and it turns into a hot naked living guy with amnesia and he’s like “You can call me…Bobo the Fool…” so naturally she’s like Huh. WTF. Guess I’ll probably fall in love with him?? 

it then turns out he’s king of the entire goddamn Old Kingdom. and yes, he does choose to continue being called King Bobo the Fool for the rest of his monarchy.

DEEP CUT CROSSOVER that i doubt people will get but alina (or similar tbh, pick a protagonist i’m not picky ) finding nikolai trapped as a ship’s figurehead in a royal cemetery and de-figureheading him with merzost or whatever. then him following her around in a kilt, dual-wielding and calling himself “sturmhond” then later on having to admit he’s a royal bastard and was there when whatever Bad Shit Happened that thru ravka into decay before he was turned to wood/stone for his protection.
