Tactical Pet Choices
So my group had tracked these giants we keep fighting through the woods. We consist of a Dwarf Druid/Ranger, a Human Cleric, a Human Ranger, and a Skeleton Bard (From this post). Along the way, we encounter a large black bear.
DM: Okay, so as you guys are traveling you see a large black bear come out of the woods and stare at you-
Me: I pet it.
DM:…okay, roll animal handling
Me: 19
DM: The bear lets you pet him.
Me: I give him neck scratchies. *To my party* Guys, we’re keeping the bear.
Cleric: [Bard], you know, at higher levels bears get kinda squish. It isn’t really a great tactical choice.
Me: I used awoken on my pet pig (Pigsley). How tactical do you think my choices are?
The bear helps us locate the giants, thanks to the druid, and a short while later we find the Cloud Giants we were tracking. And, much to my DM’s delight, cue the bear revealing itself to be a Cloud Giant Smiling One.
Me: *Turning and pointing at said Giant* If you think that’s gonna stop me from taking you home, prepare to be surprised.
