REASONS TO LOVE THE GLORY PART 2

WE HAVE A perfect anti-heroine. She doesn't pull random crap from any direction and have a new motive every time she loses a loved one. (yeah, she doesn't wait for someone to die to get her shit together either)

She isn't trying to save the world, she is just trying to move on and yet she manages to save more people than what most leads can.

She doesn't half ass shit, she took 20 years to fully fund her plan, get an education and fucking get them all.

She is actually a good person, nobody on this drama as a character has to vouch for that or explicitly say how charming she is. SHE JUST godamn gives her biggest bully time to surrender and go to police herself so she wouldn't have to take revenge and her family wouldn't be suffering.

She is self aware, revenge isn't the best way to do it so she plans to off herself but the people around her know she don't deserve it. There is no scene in the drama where Dongeun's revenge is glorified to a point it seems its okay for antiheros to do fucked up shit with some cool instrumental playing in the bg(scene where MDE calls JJ to get the pervert straight in line, she accepts it is crappy since yesol and HDY had to sort of see that)

She gives people what they deserve, and she finds happiness(she shouldn't have to earn it but she does)

SHE isn't perfect but she does try to have sympathy for people who have been by her side and looks out for them.(reasonable, no love at first sight nonsense, all the people she helped have proved their worth around her.)

She isn't getting justice for the whole world just the ones who have been through the same shit as her and logically tries to make a coherent plan do it all.

DID I say she don't have any supernatural strengths like she breaks down, has ptsd and requires support from YJ's character.

She doesn't wear cool suits and ramps around everywhere to deliver retribution but she kinda plays people like guitar strings and have them kill eo(thanks to her years of stalking skills)

Chemistry between two characters in this drama isn't bait for you to watch this drama. The drama itself is the bait, SHK is fine as hell. As much as I love a romance, this one is just fine as it is.(LDH and SHK are a cute duo, not everything needs to be angsty. Some things are nice when two nice people are together and in love. I'll die on this hill.)

I am voicing my concern for people who don't find LDH and SHK's chemistry palpable. SHK and Jung Sungil look good but ldh and shk flow better. Given the fact, this show has a character who went through a lot, why would she ever choose the bully's ex over a ray of sunshine?

There is no miracle bird that saves the day so the writing gets all the credit lol.

SIDE NOTE: This might be Song Hye Kyo's best drama but also the the best drama out there. some of y'all should not forget this girl has been on the top for over 20 years for a reason. I'd love to see well written stories written around main characters such as this but there aren't many. Multilayered female characters who are not in romance dramas >>

CSS's family is literally the best. Like who else got a mother so tsundere, she eavesdrops on her daughter's farewell speech, comforts her sobbing mess of a husband while her eyes well up, secretly hopes to play a general and save the day for shaoshang's love but won't say a word to her about it

I say, his intellect is bitin' him, zisheng is straight-forward likely because of his work, while YS is much more likely to go in circles with everything much like the rhapsody and poetry he prefers. like all he's done is solve riddles his entire life until recently when he became an official, seems about right why he hasn't got a clue about priorities.

I can't help but say, Yuan Shajian has tough luck, boy just wants to play with Shaoshang but he's stuck with the outdated classical texts on how to court a girl with pride, while zisheng is out here rolling his buttcheeks infront of fam.

boy goes out of his way to get her attention but ends up saying you got a booger up your nose, ma'am. but the whole sequence of him regretting he acted slower, and trying to hold his composure by saying, "Even if Lady Cheng gets married, my life has to go on." got me.

EMPRESS XUAN.

I adore her. My heart couldn't take when she felt like she could never have what NN and zisheng have. Consort Yue might be proactive and more interesting but Empress has the kindest heart of all, she'd even go against emperor for a kid she has known for just months. NN and her do have the epic kind of love that I guess I'd like to see more than Emperor and Consort Yue, ngl they are cute. BUT SCREW IT, she deserves better.

PS: The writer of this show, pls give tips to other writers on how to write cute emperors. He is 90% of the time involved in petty family bullshit but 90% of the time his wives help him out or have the final word. The state affairs he couldn't care less, cuz its hard being an emperor y'all

how elegantly they fall. the royal kids embarrassing themselves this episode, while Shaosheng saves these clowns is hilarious. except consort yu's son, she has dragged all their arses out of mud. the crown prince is a fool, like why do the writers make him spout nonsense like that, I feel bad. He just said, i spent a lot on this gift so like it, like where did the selflessness go? the wine must have been good tho, to see the young prince just try to court CS. Like, who wails like that after climbing out of the lake in front of the person who pushed you in it? AND THIS FALL IS DELIGHTFUL, Consort Yu's stare must have something to do with it. She is the main character at this point, honestly. I'd die on this hill. BUT EMPRESS, WHY DID YOU DO MY BIRTHDAY GIRL LIKE THAT? That painful gaze, she looked at both CY and her husband. also very interesting to see, so many interesting female characters, especially CS and Yang Yang narrative and parallels of Consort Yue and Empress' demeanor, really excited how all of this ties in.

EDIT- loved the dilemma CS is in, her character arc revolves around independence, it makes sense for her to feel the need to protect the ones she cares about. She ain't dumb if you ask me? Cmon now, why will you expect every character to act like a Mary Sue? she's 15 and has trouble devoting herself to someone who does indeed care about her but is young and troubled too. it makes sense for her to have insecurities that lead up to huge consequences. but both of them give in to each other in the end cuz they want to treat each other well.

Like, Consort Yue has no right barging in like that, no wonder the empress is in cahoots with her. How was this the hardest conversation to have through CS's mother? All she had to do was acknowledge she had abandoned her daughter and done her wrong and discipline her the right way. I'll really need a long ass monologue, journal entries, burnt letters written in thin air, or maybe flashes of CS mother sitting on top of citadel and playing the saddest melodies on the flute while she reminisces on how she could have seen her daughter grow up and it won't take her a second to turn the tables on me. I just need the very angsty yearning for CS. Like, give me the second-female-lead mother who's going up against the mighty EMPRESS. I'm all for tough characters turning soft, or characters who have all along been the kindest while they had armored up but can we juss see the tiniest bit of unlady-like messy emotions from Lady Cheng? Well, please don't mess up again and buy yo daughtaaaah those goddamn flashy earrings EVEN THOUGH your daughter has excellent taste in friends, looking at you QiQi who could buy her those, show some love yourself. Honestly, everybody at the freaking palace is super interesting and they'd drive the second half very well BUT let's take a moment to look at all this...

The last two episodes are so wholesome. Consort Yue really left me speechless, like how can a woman so darn fine show up only midway. HERE I WAS HOPING shaoshang's mother making some progress, but those baby steps have got nothing on Consort Yue literally owning that banquet, well someone was enjoying it very much...cough cough the emperor. GIRL REALLY SAID, "I saw an old hag coming in, so here I am." Moral of the story, get a wife like Consort Yue who'd defend you from cranky old aunts.
