Steel A Jeeg's Magno-Mixtape Vol 08

April arrives, and we are all its fools. So let's all settle in, grab a beverage, and agree to be the silly geese we know we were meant to be.

Instead of subjecting you all to a playlist of joke songs (check the readme to find out the torture I planned) I decided to do something a little different that met the spirit of the day, at least.

APRIL SHUFFLE The rules are simple: I set my entire music collection on shuffle. The intent - take the first 20 songs in the shuffle, pick my 12 favorites, and organize them into a playlist. Try to find any emergent themes, good thematic or musical transitions, and have something to say about each track. The caveats - No repeat tracks, nothing that's been on a mixtape before. No skits, obviously. And no songs from the same album. Good or bad, it made it on the mix.

I then had to put together a cohesive song order, and maybe even come up with an emergent theme. Did I find one? Check the readme and you'll see!

The access code is: BEAMCONFUSE

Either way, enjoy the music. It's a very jazzy mix this time around, the perfect playlist to ride out the thunderstorms, eclipses, and freak earthquakes while we wait for warmer weather to arrive.

As in I had to track it down outside of the blind box. I also lift weights, and I love designer toys. So I bought 2 - one for home, and one for my office.

Yet another thrift find from Book Off in Brooklyn.

I love these mini sofubi figures, and Kamen Rider Alternative isn't exactly a merchandising darling. Finding this little figure in the dollar bin was probably the definition of "one man's trash is another man's treasure" because I love Alternative's design. And this is such a great mini vinyl, with really sharp sculpted detail. And a fun little pose.

Another break in the marathon, but this time for a new arrival.

The Toyotarou edition of S.H. Figuarts Ultra Instinct Son Goku. Based more directly on Toyotarou's artwork, with some newly sculpted elements, new face plates, and new in-motion hair. Along with a glossy photo book of every Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts released to date. No new photography, unfortunately. But it's nice to have a collection of high quality prints of the packaging photos.

Not much to say about this one because I haven't opened it yet, but look at that absolutely gorgeous packaging.

Taking a short break from the One Day One Shot marathon to show off some new room displays.

More wooden boxes from Daiso to act as shadow boxes on it wall, with a surprising amount of versatility (and stability) for larger figures.

That QPosket Bulma is the real star here, a fun and bouncy little figure with great colors. We picked that up at Akiba House in Queens for a fraction of the retail price. Just an awesome little accent to the room.

This was a thrift find from a recent trip to Book Off. Gorgeous sculpting and great colors in this little vending machine toy.

It's not often you see toys of the classic Kamen Rider enemies like this. Imorigues was first used in the latter half of the original 1971 series, and later re-used in Kamen Rider V3. Great deep cut monster design.

The storms are rolling in, playing the fanfare that ushers in March. In like a lion, and out with aplomb - we're also celebrating a birthday this month! Read on:

From the Kaiju Hunting blind box series, this piece by Kenny Wong ("Molly" creator) is one of an assortment of artists who contributed to the line - with each artist offering their own take on a classic vinyl Kaiju.

This Yokai themed Kaiju kewpie is a stunning combination of unmistakable vinyl texture, vibrant color design, and a playful little sculpt. It's a wonderful little piece that totally stands out on shelf.
