A Soul for A Soul

The young boy sat in the living room in front of the blank tv. The power has gone out yesterday. He was sitting there, waiting until he felt pain in his stomach.

“Father... Why aren’t you back yet...? You said a month at most...?” He knew there was no food left and if he stayed longer, then he might not be around anymore.

He removed himself from his spot and grabbed the flashlight that was next to the couch, moving towards his father’s room. He flicks the flashlight on to see the inside of the closet, looking for something. “Please forgive me father... but I cannot wait any longer...”

He grabs the box from the closet and opens it to see his mother’s belongings. “Mommy...” The boy whispered as he grabs a photo of what he assumes is his mother and someone close to her. “I guess this is a start...” He grabs his bag and stuffs some of his belongings in it, along with the box. He puts his coat, shoes and bag on, and heads out the front door. Going to search for whomever knows his mother.
