Podoliak’s direct speech: “After a fierce battle, our control over the Chernobyl site was lost. The condition of the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant, confinement and nuclear waste storage facilities is unknown.”
Details: According to him, after the absolutely senseless attack of the Russians in this direction, “it is impossible to say that Chernobyl is safe.”
The President’s Office believes that this is “one of the most serious threats to Europe today”, as Russian troops may be preparing to provoke the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, or “use the damage received during the attack to blame Ukraine, or damage these by far the most dangerous objects ”.

As of 20:00, the situation in the Donetsk operational area is tense, but under the control of the United Forces. Shelling (fire) from the Russian-occupation troops continues.
All military units are protesting Russian naval resistance, and Ukrainian soldiers are showing unprecedented courage and heroism. The United forces were able to demolish the Kremlin’s plan of a quick surrender.
Despite numerous enemy strikes, aviation, artillery and missile strikes, as well as a large number of armed military vehicles, the enemy was unable to advance deep into Ukraine in the East. The Ukrainian defenders managed to repulse the attacks, defend and hold all the key settlements and infrastructure facilities.
In the Luhansk direction during the day, the most fierce battles were for Shchastia, Stanitsa Luganskaya, Lobacheva, Bilovodsk, Starobilskaya. In the battles for Shchastia, two enemy tanks were destroyed and one tank and one ZU-23-2 were captured
In the area of the occupied Sentyanivka, our gunners stopped the fire of an enemy mixed column of armored vehicles, fences and autovehicles.
In the Donetsk direction, the most tense, but under-control situation was in the settlements of Novotroitsk, Novognativka, Pavlopiv and Pishchevik.
At the moment, no new attempts to break through the enemy have been recorded, there is a decrease in fire activity in some areas.
Ukrainian soldiers firmly hold their positions and incur losses to the aggressor.
20:58: What President Biden said:
- The Russian military has launched a brutal attack on Ukraine, a pre-planned attack. We’ve been talking about this for months;
- The United States is imposing sanctions on Russian banks, which together have more than a trillion dollars, we are also blocking four banks, including VTB (the second largest in Russia) and expanding the list of Russian elites that are subject to sanctions;
- Our troops are going to Europe to ensure the security of our allies. I authorize the deployment of additional troops in Germany. We are also preparing for the next steps to support our allies and Ukraine;
- The United States has no plans to send US troops to Ukraine;
- Yesterday I spoke with Zelensky, the United States and its allies will support Ukraine, will provide humanitarian aid;
- The NATO summit is scheduled for tomorrow, 25 February. The leaders of 30 countries will gather there and we will agree on the next steps to strengthen our alliance;
- Putin has caused great pain to the people of Ukraine, the people of Ukraine have shown in 30 years that he will not allow anyone to take away their country. Now the whole world sees that Putin and his close circle have never cared about security, he wants to build an empire. Any country that supports Russia will participate in it.

- The occupiers have fired at the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces 393 times today;
- Russian troops have destroyed 6 posts and shelled 32 civilian objects;
- Zmiini Island is under Ukrainian control, Russian ships have retreated;
- The curfew will still be imposed in some cities. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is asking strongly to adhere to it in order to protect the civilian population.
