A lot of people try to explain this without knowing anything about how voice synthesis works, so here's my breakdown on No, Hatsune Miku Is Not AI, And No, AI Voice Synthesis Is Not Bad.

i swear to god people need to learn the difference between ai generated voice and vocal synth. mastering the art of a vocal synth is hard. you have to tune that shit yourself. you have to edit the vocals and do it all yourself. it takes hours to get a synth to sing a song well. when people make covers of songs with miku they are not just imputing a song and boom she sings it. not like how people do with ai. also, vocal synths were created specifically to assist musicians who struggle with finding vocalists (hiring a vocalist is fucking expensive) or cant provide vocals on their own. vocal synths are instruments and tools that one needs to learn and master, and they get their voice providers from people who 100% consented to having their vocals used. hatsune miku is not ai. using vocaloid or synthv or utau is not anything like lazily ai generating a voice at all. grow the fuck up.

Vocal synth ask game!
The only other ask game I've created was in a small fandom I had an established presence in, so I don't know if this one will get any traction, but i DO what i WANT §(* ̄▽ ̄*)§
Send a number via ask! Sending me one is very appreciated, but I also want this to go around, so anyone can reblog and partake!
1. What program did you discover vocal synth with? (Examples: what program was used in the first vsynth song you heard? / What was the program that someone first talked to you about?) 2. If any, what was the first vocal synth program you used? (If none, which one would you like to try first?) 3. What vocal synth program do you enjoy using the most, and why? 4. When did you discover vocal synth? 5. Do you remember who the first voicebank you heard was? If so, who? 6. Do you remember who the first voicebank you used was? If so, who? 7. Who's your favourite vocal synth producer? 8. Who's your favourite vocal synth cover maker? 9. What's your voicebank wishlist? And who is number one on your list? 10. Are you more likely to pitch manually, or to let an AI do it when available? 11. What's a vocal synth song you listen to a lot lately? 12. What's a vocal synth cover you listen to a lot lately? (Regardless of whether the song was originally vsynth or not.) 13. What do you consider your all-time favourite vocal synth song? 14. What was the first vocal synth song you produced? 15. What was the first song you covered via vocal synth? 16. What is your favourite vocal synth character design? (Feel free to pick multiple.) 17. Do you have fandesigns for any of the design-less characters? If so, please describe or show them! (Examples: VOCALOID default voices, Dreamtonics SynthVs) 18. Do you have headcanons for any vocal synth character? If so, tell us about it! 19. Have you ever created an UTAU, or any voicebank of your own? Tell us about it! (If not, do you ever plan to? Have you imagined what it would be like?) 20. What voicebanks do you own/have at your disposal? (Free and/or paid, your choice.) 21. What's your favourite voicebank that you own, free or paid? Why? (Examples: Does it have the best voice? Is it easy to use well?) 22. What was the program you listened to the most at first, and what is the program you listen to the most now? 23. What was the program you used the most at first, and what is the program you use the most now?
Feel free to let your followers know in your reblog or tags whether you're more of a listener, a producer, or someone who makes covers! Personally, I mostly listen to vsynth and cover songs. When the question allows it, feel free to talk about TTS programs!
(I'm sure this has been done before, but I hope you enjoy mine too (。・∀・)ノ゙ )

Yes! 99 percent of the time i do my own art! I have used ai art in the past(sadly) and sometimes others offer to make art but mostly its my art ^^
Also thank uu!!! Aaa im blessed you seem to enjoy my song !!
Sometimes when I'm bored I like to binge check out songs posted by dailyenglishvoca (since they usually have more lesser known / obscure producers)
So many hidden gems!!! But probably so many still hidden.. how do I find the gems ;__;
If you somehow see this and are a vocaloid / vocal synth producer, please show me I beg of you

Any advice for an aspiring vocap??
dont dump alot of money into it unless you like to collect the boxes like me or are ready to not turn a profit at all. the revenue is very bad so dont go into this expecting money
u will suck at first its a rite of passage go listen to any producers first song compared to their most recent release
seek other producers at your level to befriend and get feedback from. its really good to have a support system of people who are doing the same thing as you.
have fun write crazy lyrics make crazy art release crazy videos
use free tools that are available. synth v has a free version, voisona has one (1) free vocal. utau/openutau and deepvocal exist. aviutl is free and is also what most mv makers use

Also! Along with this, synth v is not generative ai! It uses a kind of ai to pick out phonemes and pitch bends(fro mwhat i understand) its not actually. Generating?
Like. You cant type a prompt into sv and expect a generation, you gotta do the work yourself! Writing lyrics and picking notes!
To clarify because I saw a few people wondering, SynthV works exactly the same as Vocaloid (and other big commercial engines that have been around a while, like CeVIO AI/VoiSona) where the voice providers consent to their voices being used and are financially compensated for it, and there are precautions in place like terms of service users must agree to to use the vocals, but the vps are aware of what they're getting into when they sign up. SynthV was making AI vocals a while before the popularity boom of unethical AI; they're totally separate things.

I wanna ask a fun question. rb and put your favorite vocal synth in terms of voice, your favorite in terms of design, and your favorite overall in the tags, and feel free to elaborate

Mixing Stuff Masterpost for Vocal Synth Users
i'll say a few things here and there on how i approach mixing based on a set of guidelines i've been giving thru learning. i won't go 100% and i encourage you research further on your own as everyone has a different perspective of certain concepts. whats important is that you understand the concept so that you are able to interpolate on it with your own liberties. yeah. please read the links before looking at my commentary or you won't understand what im saying.
Some DAWs, Their Guides, & Some Freebies: One of the first things you should do is pick a DAW and learn how to use it and its functions to streamline your mixing process.
Free DAWs: The Best Available in 2023 by Produce Like A Pro
Audacity / DarkAudacity (i like darkaudacity): has a section of the site dedicated to tutorials on using Audacity!
Reaper: has a 3 hour course FREE course on mixing!
FL Studio: has a demo version you can pretty much use forever with a few.........exceptions. I won't be linking any cracked versions though. Here's a manual for this program since many people use it!

ORDER IN THE COURT!: The order of plugins is more important than you think. These links should also introduce some terms we use in the audio production world (like "gain staging" or "EQing")
WHAT'S THE BEST EFFECTS CHAIN ORDER FOR MIXING? by Icon Collective:
The Order Of Things: Audio Plug-ins by AskAudio
Plugin order is viewed from "top to bottom". BASICALLY... most like to gain stage -> EQ -> compress -> saturate -> MORE EQing -> whatever else at this point, but i do my process a bit differently. don't be afraid to bend the rules a little bit. but the guidelines are there for a reason.....based on what they do
Basics: I'll link to some tutorials to elaborate on what was listed by Icon Collective's list.
Gain Staging: Gain Staging Like a Pro by Sweetwater
Saturation: Saturation in Mixing – Instant Warmth, Glue and Fullness with One Plugin by Tough Tones (soundgoodizer fans make some fucking noise i guess)
EQ: SUBTRACTIVE VS ADDITIVE EQ (WHEN TO USE EACH & WHY) by Producer Hive

Modulation: Modulation Effects: Flanging, Phase Shifting, and More by Universal Audio

Sidechaining: Sidechain compression demystified: what it is and how to use it by Native Instruments (i dont know anything about this lol)
Automation: Mix Automation 101: How to Automate Your Sound For a Better Mix by Landr (p.s learn how to write automation in your respective programs)
Last note: great. these are the main things you should focus on understanding in mixing. now you are FREE my friend!
