Today I saw a post that asked whether or not PB&J sandwiches were better than Grilled Cheese sandwiches and vice versa. I physically cringed and gagged at the mere concept, the idea, the implication the grilled cheese could ever hold a candle to the greatness of a pb&j. An absolutely repulsive sentiment.

Let’s start with the obvious. Grilled cheese could never be better than *any* other sandwich because, in order to enjoy a grilled cheese at all, to not have an overload of the taste of cheese in your mouth, you’d need to make tomato soup with it. 

Let me repeat. Grilled cheese *must* be paired with a whole other soup you *also* will need to cook.

Such hassles simply don’t exist with the pb&j. 

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches only require the ingredients needed in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The texture and flavor of both the jelly and the peanut butter  level each other out, so there isn’t too much of one thing stuck inside your mouth at a time. If you need to eat something with it, a simple glass of milk or even water would suffice. No cooking necessary.

Now you may be saying, “is it not annoying to spread peanut butter and jelly onto bread?” And to that, I will take this time to call you an absolute buffoon.

Making a grilled cheese takes more time and effort a pb&j ever could. You have to get out a pan, some butter, the actual ingredients of a grilled cheese sandwich, cook it for a good 2 minutes, eat said sandwich and wash off the pan and clean off the counters in which you may have gotten dirty due to making the thing. 

You also need a pot for the sauce, which you will also have to clean out, and a spoon to stir the sauce, which you will ALSO have to clean off. Unless you use said spoon to flip the grilled cheese, you will have to turn the grilled cheese over with a spatula, which, you guessed it, you will have to clean off.

For a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you don’t even need a plate. You need something to spread the peanut butter and jelly, sure, but you can have your choice of what that should be- a butter knife, spoon, even a fork if you so choose. You’d only have to wash that utensil twice. Once after spreading one of the ingredients, and another after spreading the last. Plop the pb&j on a paper towel and youre ready to eat. Unless you choose to drink milk with it.

Finally, to end this lack of a debate, let’s take a look at the Venn Diagram of people who favorite grilled cheese and people who live in their mother’s basement until they’re 47.
