this has to stop.
ok so… recently this article about ubisoft came out and i have no words to describe how f*cking mad i am.
i’m only talking about the assassin’s creed part, but you can read the full article here
so… we are aware that most of assassin’s creed games has a male protagonist, right? and thats a problem? absolutely no. the real problem is when we can’t have female protagonists because of sexism. and that’s whats happening with the assassin’s creed franchise.
according to the article, the creative director of assassin’s creed unity didn’t add the option for players to play as a female character on online because “it was really a lot of extra production work” to add women’s clothing and animations to the game. also, élise was supposed to be a playable character for about one hour, but the paris editorial team decided “to nix female playable characters” from the game.
in assassin’s creed syndicate the early script gave equal screen time to jacob and evie, but in the final product jacob has 75% of the quests.
in assassin’s creed origins bayek was supposed to be injured/killed early in the story and aya would become the main protagonist, but her role gradually shrank over the course of development and bayek became the leading figure.
assassin’s creed odyssey went in the same way *pretends to be shocked*. the dev team originally proposed making kassandra the only playable character in the game. but guess what. they were told that wasn’t an option, leading the final game to have a choice between male and female protagonists.
i’m honestly SO disappointed at ubisoft. as a woman, how am i supposed to keep playing games from a sexist and misogynist company like that? i’m just… so mad ya know?..
