I don’t know if you’ve seen the artwork of Bruce Nauman, but just about everything he’s done seems like it belongs in the Magnus Archives. “Carousel” and “Clown Torture” come to mind immediately.

side note that's much more my opinion that i mentioned wanting to share! yes, i realize that this is probably unnecessarily harsh, that's why it's in a reblog so it can't end up in tags. i recognize that the very strong emotional response and trauma, both personal experience and things that are more just shared by the trans community as a whole, mean this is inherently very biased! please do not start attacking me for it. again, my opinion. not fact!
also very incoherent because someone forgot to take our meds. but i'm just going to go with it and ramble!
listing "male" or "female" for every human on their wiki page is super fucking uncomfortable.. you have a pronouns section, why do you need to write your gender headcanons as fact... and why do you feel the need to use those words??
if you're going to list genders that have only been implied at best as fact, especially for characters who are so widely interpreted as nonbinary, especially when the creator has said that there's nothing canon to disprove that and nothing conflicting with it (so no proof of being binary), you could at least. not use terms that make so many trans people immediately think of transphobic comments they've seen or received???
i genuinely do not understand how the fuck no one saw any problem with using "male" and "female". how does that not have dogwhistle vibes to them??? the only times i ever see those used by trans people are in the acronyms mtf and ftm, afab/dfab and amab/dmab, and the occasional person self identifying as female or male (which i support so much, if that's not clear). and there's a damn good reason for this!
yes, woman and man both have inherent gender as words. but they don't have the same level as female and male, the more scientific—and therefore generally seen as more dehumanizing, even by cis people—words for the binary genders. they're also the ones that also are meant to refer to sexes by definition. sure, the other ones get used that way, too, because of people thinking sex and gender are interchangeable, but they're not the ones that actually mean that.
and yes!! it is so fucked up that the words for the binary sexes are gendered!! but they are, and as much as i think that's bullshit and those words should stop meaning sexes and get replaced with something fully genderless. that's not a thing yet! so we have to acknowledge the current meanings when they're relevant.
which definitely includes when female and woman or male and man get treated as synonymous. they are not. they do not carry the same weight, the same associations, even the same meanings. if someone says they identify as female or male specifically, that is a lot more likely to mean binary than someone calling themselves a woman or a man. especially in the case of someone using masc terms for themselves, since so many get treated as relatively neutral by society in general?? it's like citing someone saying "it's ya boi" as proof they are male.
tldr. maybe the wiki editors are trans, maybe they're cis. i'm almost not sure which is worse here, since cis people might not have any idea why it's kind of fucking yikes, but i'm not sure how someone trans could have managed to avoid transphobes and truscum so completely. either way, i don't actually care, because my opinion doesn't change! using male and female in this context has super transphobic vibes, and if you're going to be running a wiki for a series with canonical queer characters and a fandom with almost entirely queer people and a ton of trans people? you'd better be really fucking mindful of whether or not something is going to come off as feeling just like transphobic dogwhistles.
look. look i will try to form a coherent thought later and post that but

they unplastic-ed nikola's fucking gender!!! this is transphobia. (/hj)
less /hj though.. the distortions. they merged their wikis, so i guess now they want to treat them as the same person, and treat each as entirely separate from the human whose merging with the distortion made them? so why are they saying michael distortion has he/it pronouns. either it/its only, or at least acknowledge that he is goddamn uncommon! and with helen... it says she/it...... can someone please point me to even one instance of it/its being used for helen that doesn't have extremely uncomfortable misgendering vibes??
and yet. through all this.. jon is still listed as he/him and male? he does not have a canon gender! it is open to interpretation! if you want to say michael distortion uses he/him, and helen distortion uses it/its, you have to also acknowledge he/they and only implied male jon. or else it's just shitty!
