For anyone having trouble reading it:

Talespin takes place during the same time as The Great Depression. In "Sky Pirates" the pirates sing the lyrics "It keeps us in the air and off the street!" That's why Don Karnage has such a large crew, they're all victims of The Great Depression.

I have come to the conclusion that Don Karnage (from Talespin, not Ducktales) would be the safest Disney Pirate crew to be on.

Captain Hook shot a man for singing badly.

Long John Silver (Treasure Planet) crushed a man's arm to keep up appearances, and his crewmates are dicks

Barbossa shot a crewmate to see if the curse was lifted, showing no care for if he died

NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS TO JACK SPARROW'S CREW

But Don Karnage? Sure, he slaps and insults his crew regularly. But do you know what he did to yhe crewmates who attempted to mutiny against him on multiple occasions?

He not only let them live, but they kept their jobs.

On any other crew, attempted mutiny would be an immediate death sentence.

If Don Karnage is gonna let the attempted mutineers live and keep their jobs, you're probably safe no matter how bad you screw up. You cannot do much worse than ATTEMPTED MUTINY. I mean, even if he tortured them, his torture methods mostly consist of dragging claws on a chalkboard and whatever the heck he was going to do with those turnips and sandpaper.

Also, air pirates would have a larger range of places to loot due to not being restricted to just bodies of water, plus Baloo is the only pilot that consistently outsmarts Don Karnage. He is a VERY successful pirate.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Duck post for a TaleSpin comic titled “Voodoo Baloo” from Disney Adventures Vol. 1, No. 8 (June 1991). I found these scans online (you can find them, too, with a simple Google search), but honestly, I have no qualms posting them since Disney does little to feed or acknowledge Disney Afternoon fans (witness the lousy way they’re treating both the DuckTales ‘17 fanbase and creative team*). 

Anyway, enjoy this nearly 20-year-old story. If you’re like me and remember when it was first published–and indeed, purchased a copy of that issue–then you’ll feel sufficiently old in addition to nostalgic.
