100 years ago today, Saint Pope John Paul II was born. He served as the 264th Bishop of Rome and Pope of the Roman Catholic Church from 1978 until his passing on April 2, 2005. His canonization took place in 2014 under the authority of current Bishop of Rome and the 266th Pope, Pope Francis.

Along with being a part of the Knights of Columbus, I am also a member of my Parish’s Legion of Mary (Our Lady of Grace).

I have been a part of this since October of 2018, but had to take a MLoA (medical leave of absence) in mid 2019. I am excited to be back from MLoA, and I am attending meetings.

Advent Project #001: St. Nicolas Day

Tonight, I went shopping for some much needed supplies for St. Nicolas Day 2019, which is 2 weeks from today (Friday Dec. 6, 2019). This is the 2nd year I have done this, but I do it a tad bit different.

With me living in an adult group home with individuals who have Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DDs), I have to do things different. Last year, I explained a little about St. Nicolas Day, the origins behind the holiday, and why it is significant to my culture. I then asked who wanted to participate.

Those that said they would like to participate, I requested that they leave a pair of shoes by the front door on December 5 (2018), and early the next morning (around 5:45 am), I went to the shoes and had placed chocolate coins inside the shoes. I plan to do the same this Advent Season, along with some other stuff, of which I will update on as Advent draws closer.
