“oh I’m too old for stuffed animals” skill issue. sorry you can’t appreciate little creatures made to hang out with you, I on the other hand am full of joyous whimsy and therefore vastly superior.

I hope so. I think they'd get along :)
have you ever had any other kids live with you other than Keefe or is he the first?
yes actually. There was another Foxfire student (I will keep her name disclosed for privacy) that I let live with me for about 3 years. She had not manifested as a Vanisher, which both her parents wanted her to manifest as, so her parents began to mistreat her- like Keefe's parents, but worse. She then manifested a second time, *which you know is very rare* and didn't end up becomign a Vanisher. So her parents were disappointed to say the least. Her mother then started to treat her with elixirs and balms etc. in the hopes of "washing away" her other abilites and then replacing them with Vanishing. This made her very sick. And she needed almost a year to recover because by the time I found out, her mother had been practically poisoning her for 2 years. So instead of making her live in Foxfire's healing center, I allowed her to stay with me. She stayed the extra two years so she could finish the basic levels and then she moves to the elite levels. anyway we still keep in touch- and occasionaly she needs to visit to be treated for something, since her mom messed her up a lot.
which is also why when I met Keefe, I've always tried to look out for him

Yes to all of this. ily guys- if any of you want adopting, im here :)
How would Elwin/Grady react to Keefe accidentally calling him dad
"Hey, Dad, can you--" Keefe's words died in his throat.
His face paled, and his eyes widened. His stomach twisted and his fingers twitched.
"What?" Elwin said, looking up from his book, his eyes like saucers.
"I... I didn't mean to, I'm sorry, Dad-- shit, shit, I didn't mean that."
"Keefe," Elwin said, his face blank, his eyes wide. A note of humor crept into his tone, and panic flared into desperation in Keefe's chest, like it was fanned with a flame. "Did... Do you see me as a father-figure?"
"NO!!" Keefe yelped, words coming out faster than he wanted them to, "If anything, I see you as a bother figure, because you're always bothering me! I swear I didn't mean to, Dad, I swear, don't get mad, it won't happen again, I promise!"
Elwin set his book down, looking at Keefe. Keefe swallowed heavily, his throat thick.
"Keefe," he said, again, more gently this time. "I adopted you four months ago."
Keefe twitched his fingers, his head feeling hot and his skin ice cold all at once. "I know."
Elwin tilted his head to the side, softly. "If you want to call me your dad, you can."
Keefe shook his head, fiercely, his heart pounding. "No, I don't want to, I promise. I'm not weird and I wouldn't call you that--"
"Are you sure?"
Keefe said nothing, but Elwin's hand set on his adopted son's shoulder. "Kid," he said, "You can call me your dad."
Keefe's ice blue eyes were huge and wide as he looked at Elwin, across the brown wood dinner table in the center of the apartment.
The silence stretched thin and tense between them for forty three seconds.
"Really?" Keefe asked, his voice quiet.
Elwin nodded, a smile gracing his lips.
Keefe relaxed, like strings had been cut, and he sagged forward a bit. "Okay," he said, quietly. "Only if you're alright with it."
"Kiddo," he said, "I've thought of you as my kid for years, honestly. Why do you think I adopted you?"
Keefe said nothing for a long moment. Then, after a second, "I don't know."
Elwin smiled, softly. "I love you, Kid. I'm honored to be someone you can call dad."
That night, when Elwin finally went to bed, he stared up at the cieling in his room and grinned, for an entire minute, because finally, after so many years of loving, his kid thought of him as his dad. His heart could have brust, could have crumbled right there under the weight he knew the word held for Keefe, the meaning behind the casual love his son held for him.
Elwin could have lived in that feeling forever, of a kid looking up to him, of loving him enough to trust him like a dad.
It was a great feeling.
Elwin made a special breakfast the next morning, with pancakes and waffles and strawberry sauce and syrup and whipped cream and tiny little chocolate chips. Keefe's face lit up when he saw it.

If you get injured, and treat yourself before coming to the Healing Center, and it just makes your injury worse, be prepared to get an elixir called "Get Your Butt To The Healing Center Next Time". It's gross. *thisisforyousophie*
