folklore feels like you just found an old collection of letters tied up with ribbon, in a box in someone’s attic and you wipe off the dust and sit down right there to carefully flip through them and you get a glimpse into the world of whoever wrote them

I’m having a break down over The Last Great American Dynasty!!! Taylor tells the story of Rebekah Harkness and all the trouble she caused in Watch Hill Rhode Island with her insane parties, feuds with neighbors and her general debauchery that was the talk of the town. And then she died and Holiday House sat quietly for 50 years, “free of women with madness, their men and bad habits” AND THEN Taylor has the audacity to say “And then it was bought by me // I had a marvelous time ruining everything” because Taylor was know for her crazy parties there and her “men and bad habits” and we know there were tabloids publishing stories of her fighting with people in town. I REALLY underestimated this song upon first listen. Holy SHIT.

are any of us ready to talk about how intimate and close  “give you my wild, give you a child, give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other, family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother” is or are we not emotionally stable enough for that yet

leaving the lover era feels so different to me because in so many ways i feel that it marked the beginning of a new chapter for taylor…..one full of more love and freedom and self acceptance than we had ever seen before. it brought her the most amount of pride, the first album she owned and i think the realization that she can create music however she wants and we will all still be there to show up for her and love her. lover is always going to hold a special place in my heart and while i’m sad to see the era go i feel like everything going forward is almost an ever growing extension of it

My conversations with my mom have always been and will always be some of my favorite memories - from when I was 10 months old in this video from October 1990 to now talking every day on the phone. Our talks are everything to me. Myyyyyyyy goodness I love you Mom. virtually sending taylor the warmest hugs right now, she may not feel it but trust me, it’s there.

taylor had to walk out of her own living room when soon you’ll get better was playing at every lover secret session because she couldn’t bear to hear it, and that’s more than understandable. relating to that song is unbelievably painful and one of the worst experiences anybody could go through. unfortunately at the moment the amount of people who could relate to it is higher than usual. 

so for taylor to share something so personal and vulnerable - something that up until now we know she has steadfastly avoided talking about because it’s too painful - in the hopes that it could bring comfort and hope to those people… that’s just so incredibly selfless and brave that i’m at a loss for words. i couldn’t be prouder. i love you taylor

I’m so sad I won’t be able to see you guys in concert this year, but I know this is the right decision. Please, please stay healthy and safe. I’ll see you on stage as soon as I can but right now what’s important is committing to this quarantine, for the sake of all of us.
