𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 : karen reynolds .

Sean was eight years old and Daniel was a new born when their mother left, leaving his father Esteban devastated. The Diaz family quickly lost contact with Karen's side of the family, Stephen and Claire Reynolds and Karen became an extremely painful memory and topic for both Esteban and Sean.

When Sean eventually reunites with Karen, he is at his absolutel lowest. Having been on the run for months, losing his eye, and having just escaped from federal custody and been banished from the church that was holding Daniel as their miracle, he had absolutely no one else to turn to and was forced to accept Karen's help for the sake of his brother.

Sean was desperate to rescue Daniel from Lisbeth and knew that he couldn't do it alone, even with Jacob's help. Because of this, Sean tried to hear Karen out as she discussed why she had abandoned her family and severed all contact with them.

While living with Karen in the small desert community Away, Sean was finally able to understand what had driven Karen to leave them. While Sean encouraged Daniel to spend time with her and foster a new relationship that he never had growing up, Sean was unable to forgive her for leaving.

He and Karen develop a mutual understanding for and of each other which creates a civil and even friendly dynamic, but their relationship as mother and son was never reconciled.
