I'm am prepping my scented cotton to go into the magma glazed ceramic capsules of my cushion.
This, as well as refreshing the scent of the other capsules, will be my final step towards completing my cushion before handing in on Tuesday.

Printed out and bound my booklet.
I used the same twine from my cushion to bind the pages together. I also knotted the end as a loop to imitate the loop ending the knot of the cushion.
I absolutely adore the texture of the paper, and the quality of the print turned out awesome!

Paper I bought for booklet.
I was really keen to try newsprint, but I might try to use that another time as I think it just wouldnt work with the cleaner look the booklet design has.
This paper has some nice thickness to it, and a gorgeous textured and smooth side. It is subtle but will create an experience for the person paging through it.

I was finally able to get a hold of my last two capsules today!
The scoria-like surface turned out beautifully! The glaze really worked wonders and created a varied and interesting textured surface making for an interesting interaction.
Tumblr media
I had not made any holes before the bisque and glaze, so today I used drills to make the holes I needed to attach the wire and twine.

They all look so diverse and beautiful together!!!

Here they are all attached and the twine is fixed with glue. I'll take another photo of them when I get home laid out with the mat.
My plan is to take my photos tomorrow, edit them and print my booklet out.

My 1:10 scale model of my cushion
(Its soo cute!!)
Ended up using some sand and paint mixed to replicate the texture of the magma glaze.
I've also dabbed some of the capsules with teatree oil so they also have scented properties.

I was struggling to get the twine through the holes I made so I used copper wire instead, and then used the twine to conceal the copper I used.
Now 3/5 of the capsules I've made are ready for assembly for once I'm back on campus.

My Final Relational Map
I stuck to the watercolour look I had in my first attempts, however I merged it with digital illustration.  I extracted John Goodall’s stump drawing from his written article. I lightly underlayed John Goodall’s map drawing of Albert Barracks (Alvert Park), and played with opacity in the type making more important things stronger.  I thought that I could have added more as I tend towards more collage works, but I don’t want to take away from the simplicity and clarity.  The font is ‘on its side’ because I plan to present the map across two pages in the landscape booklet, making it and A4 image, so it’d be viewed in a portrait position.  I also made the ‘Scentury & a Half’ label quite subtle as it would’ve been too strong and prominent over the rest of the map. The title on this map is not as important as all the other elements being able to works together to communicate my cushion and how it relates people in the park.  I think what I am most fond of is the figure walking past the cushion and getting distracted by it, as shown using a ‘!’ exclamation point.

My test capsule has been sufficiently stained and scented!
At first I wasnt sure if it had made a big enough of a difference when I first pulled it out of the tea, but after drying the colour really pulled to the surface of the capsule.
I am really in love with the look of it, but I noticed the sound of the ceramic surface is softer and less sharp. The soaking in my tea/water/oil softened the clay and has disrupted its sound. To retain this sound experience in my cushion I plan to leave one capsule out and to soak the rest.
