I have a small kiln. I have for about bowl sized vessels in it. So that means I’m in a constant restock cycle. Even though I just restocked @putaplant.onit a week or so ago, I’m working on the next restock already. . This also means that I can turn around a custom order on about four weeks. I don’t have a fill a huge kiln, that holds seven dozen mugs. . I am thinking of buying another kiln, one a little larger that will still run on the 60amp sub-panel that gives my studio power. . We’ll see I guess. It’s a long save to afford a new kiln. . #shpottery #bflo #buffalo #monstera #716 #madeinaskutt #supportlocalbusiness #supportlocalartists (at Buffalo, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPiaHEMDvYi/?utm_medium=tumblr

I started using archival wax (renaissance). This wax gives a difference texture, look, feel and changes the coloration of a pitfired pot. . Over the next week or so, I will be using it on the #Obvara fired pieces i recently fired. I'm excited to see what the wax brings out in those. . #716 #shpottery #stayhome #pitfire #pitfiredpottery https://www.instagram.com/p/CAsTpy4jV2h/?igshid=1frkb2bjnvn9g

Potters, at least myself, try lots to tools. Personally I find myself going back to seven to ten tools on a regular basis. . #shpottery #716 #bisontools https://www.instagram.com/p/B-SfnlPj97J/?igshid=13t03x01bvpsz

Changing glazes can have good results, bad results, meh results, etc. We thin out what we don't like, and keep what we find interestings. . The bottom of this vase interests me. The texture is implied, as the bottom is ribbed smooth during throwing. The implied texture is part of the glaze combination. I think this is a keeper for my new glaze options. . #716 #shpottery #amacoglazes https://www.instagram.com/p/B9E6fR2gAI9/?igshid=191wjdck6sxxg

You stand on feet. Why shouldn’t your mugs and bowls have feet? . All my pieces get feet. It is a measure of finish that I enjoy. It shows that I care enough to finish a piece. . This results on a lot of trim scraps, the process and or reclaim and effort. But it is worth it. . #716 #shpottery https://www.instagram.com/p/B9AoWX7DqTT/?igshid=1ker6t37rq7ye

With the new glaze choice I've given myself, every kiln is super exciting. I did do test tiles. However, glaze always reacts with slight differences over larger surfaces. I think this is my favorite combo out of the latest glaze firing. . #716 #shpottery #amacoglazes https://www.instagram.com/p/B84PuU3AJqs/?igshid=lxokjmgvwoxy

Trying out a new mug shape this year. A little wider are the bottom, with a straight taper side. So far, I am personally liking it. This mug hols almst two cups, but it doesn't feel overly large. . #shpottery #716 https://www.instagram.com/p/B8qwdCJAQ3F/?igshid=1bva040kb9dz3

Mugs are, by far, my favorite thing to make. There is a clear process, one step followed by another . I see comments all the time from potters, about not liking mugs. Personally, I’d rather make nothing but mugs . Happy mug shot Monday . #716 #shpottery https://www.instagram.com/p/B8YquW6gMzG/?igshid=1iwvqa8152919

With show application season here, I get to think up interesting names for pieces. . My wife is in charge of show scheduling and applications, VP of Operations as I call it. So, she "requests" that the images have names. This makes it easier for her to include descriptions of pieces in the applications, I guess. . This one I name the "Loch Ness Monster mug". I see Nessy, anyone else? . #716 #shpottery https://www.instagram.com/p/B8G5GCBgx2e/?igshid=1kbq94dx9rhga

I tend to glaze in small batches, with each glaze consisting 4 - 8 mugs. This makes each kiln opening more like Christmas morning, and opening mutliple presents. Here are four of the glaze combinations from the latest kiln load. . #716 #shpottery https://www.instagram.com/p/B739MaBASGA/?igshid=6p76ohrz5r00
