[ Not that it would really be compatible with how the Inquisitor gets the mark in canon (considering they encounter Corypheus in close proximity shortly beforehand), but can you just imagine Alistair in an Inquisitor au. I mean, he’s generally miserable, as most versions of the Inquisitor are, with all they have to deal with, but this isn’t even the first time he’s been dragged through shit like this against his will. And now he’s got some anchor thing and the world is crazy again and oops now he’s the leader but it’s cool he’s more confident now, but he’s still pretty sure this is payback for not always acting like the senior Warden present that he was during the Blight. Also, the events of Trespasser come along and oops now he’s also missing an arm. ]

          THE  QUESTION  OF  TYPE  IS  NEVER  ONE  HE’S  BEEN  CERTAIN  OF  HOW  TO  ANSWER,   and  this  time  is  no  different.    It’s  met,   as  usual,   with  an  unsure  pause,   and  a  sheepish  shrug.    Women  that  are  strong  are  quite  alluring,   he  could  say;   yet,   he  also  likes  some  softness,   those  with  sweeter  sides,   who  CARE.    It’s  a  balance,   but  that’s  how  it  is  with  anyone.    Anyone  can  toss  a  stone  and  find  someone  that  has  traits  they’re  attracted  to.    But  finding  someone  that  has  the  balance  which  makes  them  their  type,   that’s  something  different  altogether.    And   deal-breakers?     ❝  I  don’t  much  like  mean-spirited  people.  ❞     He  shrugs  again.     ❝  That’s  about  all  I  could  tell  you.  ❞

          ❝  I’M  NOT  SURE.    It’s...   not  ideal.  ❞     Everyone  dies,   at  some  point,   but  having  been  a  Grey  Warden  for�� something  like  a  decade  now,   Alistair  knows  he  could  hear  the  true  Calling  any  day  now.    It’s  a  truth  all  Wardens  know;   after  a  certain  point,   they  WILL  hear  the  coming  of  their  end.    Thankfully,   the  AVERAGE  is  a  good  bit  longer  than  ten  years,   but  it  depends  on  the  person,   and  nothing  is  a  guarantee.    And  that’s  not  even  considering  the  possibility  that  something  else  may  very  well  come  along  and  kill  him  long  before  any  of  that  does.     ❝  ---------It  may  be  best  simply  to  not  involve  myself  with  these  things.    Avoid  the  problem  all  together.  ❞     Avoid  dealing  unnecessary  pain  to  someone  he’s  come  to  love,   that  is.    It’s  a  practical  suggestion,   but  one  which  SADDENS  him  all  the  same.

          ❝  I  SUPPOSE  SO.  ❞     If  one  considers  a  lack  of  near-constant  BICKERING  to  be  better,   that  is---   and  Alistair  does.     ❝  What  little  conversation  we’ve  had  has  been  civil,   but  we  haven’t  tested  each  other’s  company  at  length.    Perhaps  it’s  best  that  way.    She...   never  seemed  to  like  me  much---   and  not  always  without  reason,   I  might  add.  ❞     For  his  part,   Alistair  can  admit  that  he  sometimes  very  much  purposefully  got  on  her  nerves.    He  was  young,   and  she  did  and  said  things  to  him  that  he  didn’t  much  like  himself,   which,   of  course,   warranted  such  reciprocation.    Only,   it  didn’t  really,   and  he  knows  that.    Still,   their  personalities  clashed  even  when  no  effort  was  put  into  such  things,   and  Alistair  somewhat  doubts  they  could  ever  be  FRIENDS.    Civil  may  just  be  the  best  they  can  do.    There  are  worse  things.
