Hey lovelies.

I know some of you found out the news later than others, and it's still very raw for you. I'm sending so much love your way, I know you had less support than some of us when you found out and that's got to feel terribly lonely. I've talked to some folks who were fine yesterday, and not okay today, and vice versa. Just know we are here luvs, we are here, and we're happy to talk. We're all going to be grieving for a while. So please be kind to yourselves. Give yourself some grace, it's okay if you can't do much right now. It's okay if you don't finish that gif set, or that artwork, or that fic. It's okay if all you do is get by today. You are doing enough. It's okay if you need to have distractions so you're doing twice as much as you did before. Distraction can help a lot with nervous energy. Give yourself room to be creative, and to let your mind wander, it could use a break. Take some time to laugh if you can. Laughter really can be healing. I wish I had some advice for tonight. I wish I had some better words of encouragement, I know it's all very hard right now for everyone.

Please just know a few things, and you've heard them before, but I need to hear them once in a while so I'm going to say them to you.

You are loved.

You are worthy.

You are enough.

You are beautiful.

You are kind.

TARDIS: I've been looking for a word. A big, complicated word, but so sad. I've found it now. DOCTOR: What word? TARDIS: Alive. I'm alive. DOCTOR: Alive isn't sad. TARDIS: It's sad when it's over. I'll always be here, but this is when we talked.

As I try to process my feelings about the news that Our Flag Means Death isn't being picked up by another streamer, this is a thought that brings me both sadness and comfort. The show will still be here. We'll always have these 18 episodes, that incredible acting, those hilarious moments, that wonderful romance, and Samba's behind-the-scenes gems. We'll always have that, and the show will continue to live on in new ways through fic and fanart. We'll always have that moment when we watched "you wear fine things well," "The Chain," "This Woman's Work," and "you wrote me a lovely letter!" for the first time.

But this is when we talked.

It's going to be sad going forward, knowing that any conversation from here on out will only be from our end. The show has said all it's able to say and won't get another chance to reply. Even though the love will never disappear, we'll always wish we could've had more time.

"Alive" is sad when it's over.

But this show was so alive. In just 18 short(!) episodes, it packed in so much love, so much joy, so much pain, so much silliness, so much acceptance, so much longing, so much discovery, so much bravery. So much family.

So if I may, I'll end on the TARDIS's final words to the Doctor:

TARDIS: There's something I didn't get to say to you. DOCTOR: Goodbye? IDRIS: No. I just wanted to say hello. Hello, Doctor. It's so very, very nice to meet you.

Deep breath.

I am a solidly middle-aged fangirl, and my last real fan community before OFMD was the X-Files. (I feel like I am not the only one here who fits that description).

The news that we aren’t getting a new season of Our Flag Means Death is hitting me harder than I expected.

So I am thinking about Scully.

There’s this X-Files episode called “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose.” The plot is about a guy who can see into the future and tell people how they die.

Scully asks him, "How do I die?"

And Clyde Bruckman replies, simply, "You don't."

I've seen fans speculate that Scully winds up becoming immortal by the end of the series. But, 22 years after the end of the show's original run, that line has taken on a new meaning for me.

Scully doesn't die, she can't die, because I still think about her. Scully is immortal because there are fans still writing her into stories, still making art, still getting inspired by her and pursuing medicine and science.

You cannot truly kill a story. You can cancel a TV show. You can, if you're an asshole, make fun of fan creators and their ideas. If you're really an asshole (and a media conglomerate), you can send them cease and desist letters and tell them to stop making art that breathes new life into that story. But the story will not die.

I draw a lot of hope from the long, long history of fandom. The people who loved stories enough to keep them alive, even when it wasn't clear that there would ever be another "official" work in their lifetimes. The Sherlock Holmes fans. The Star Trek fans.

How does a story die?

It doesn’t.

i just wanna say tho that it was all worth it. the energy and the passion and the refusal to go down without a fight were worth it. giving some studio executives hell was worth it. showing the cast and crew how much this show means to us was worth it. giving a shit about queer stories is worth it.

Not to mention, some of the most important things of all-- I am seeing SO MUCH SELF CARE. You are reaching out to the crew for support, you're taking days off, you're having fun and being creative for you... getting back to pet projects and doing things you enjoy!

You all are doing SO WELL. You are kicking ass, don't forget that! We'll have our down days, but no matter what you are making waves all over the place, bringing positive things to this world! As a side note, I wanted to mention, I know tomorrow can be a tough day for a lot of people. It can lonely, or bring up good or bad memories. Please be sure to reach out to your crew for love if you're struggling. We love you, and even if it's a platonic love, it's overflowing here for you. You are wonderful, and we want to send you all the love we can.

i love the strange reality of being a human person with a human brain. one time someone said something to me in a foreign language (japanese, which i do not speak) and i automatically responded in a different foreign language (spanish, which i do not speak well) and then we both said "what?" in english, an experience made more surreal by the fact that everyone around us was speaking loudly in canadian french (as this occurred in Quebec)
