summary: the one where daisy returns to camp from college and is blinded by her love for him, even as the world ends
wordcount: 3k
Tumblr media
Daisy hadn't had a bad nightmare in months. Not a bad one anyway.
Ever since Percy, Annabeth and Grover came, something had shifted in camp and it was like the doomsday clock had started ticking faster.
That's why she felt the need to protect the kids, to shelter them from whatever storm was coming her way.
What she didnt know was that there was a force out there more powerful than anyone could ever imagine and it had her eyes on her.
Daisy was too powerful. She had too much influence within camp, too many friends. And she was a distraction for their main target.
After the quest, she had been cursed with dreams that told her about all the awful things that the Gods did.
Then they started to fade and the memories of the quest would haunt her as she slept. She had been safe for a while, but as she fell asleep two nights after the kids left for their quest, she didn't know what would be waiting for her.
Tumblr media
In her dream, she was back where it had all started to go wrong. They barely managed to escape the garden of Hesperides where they had been tasked to find one of three golden apples.
The dragon was more than they had expected and both her and Luke managed to stumble out, barely holding onto their lives.
His arm was around her shoulders, supporting her. He had seen her get hit by the dragon but so had he. They just had to keep moving.
She collapsed onto the sidewalk, dragging him down with her as she let out a scream of pain.
They had been running for so long and exhaustion and pain were starting to catch up with her.
"Get up Des, we have to go, come on," They couldn't afford to stop. He hitched his arm under hers and tried to get her to keep running.
"I can't move," she groaned out in pain, a hand flying down to her side.
He set her down gently onto the curb and watched as she pulled her hand away, sticky with blood.
Luke could feel the bile rising up in his throat as he touched the hem of her shirt, looking into her eyes.
She nodded and he lifted the shirt up slightly to reveal the wound. She had been scratched by the dragon earlier on their escape when she pushed Luke out of the way.
He ignored the pain blossoming on his face, the cut most likely to leave a scar as he realised how much trouble she was in.
Luke thought he was going to lose her.
"Fuck, let's go," he muttered before picking her up bridal style and rushing down the street.
The sun was setting and there was nobody around so Luke punched a hole through a cars window before starting it up.
He placed her in the passenger seat and finished hot wiring the car before the engine ignited and he started driving back to camp.
When he nearly hit a curb, she looked at him confused, "Do you even know how to drive?"
"No, but how can it be too hard," he said with a shrug and she just stared at him, horrified. If the dragon didnt kill her, Lukes driving certainly would, "You stay back there, you don't move,"
She let out a hiss of pain when he drove too fast over a speed bump, jolting her and he looked over at her with panic in his eyes.
"You're gonna be alright, just stay with me," he said, trying to keep his eyes on the road whilst also looking after her.
"I'm so tired Luke," she could feel how heavy her eyelids were, just begging to close.
His eyes went wide, "No Daisy, you stay away for me. Stay awake," his hand flew out, resting on her knee to try to rustle her awake, "Keep talking,"
"I wish I could see my mum again, I wish I spent more time with her before she died," her words were getting slurred and he knew she needed help.
Every bone in his body told him that he had to do this. That there was only one place that they could go to rest.
His heart and his head were having an internal battle but as he saw the familiar Conneticut signs and buildings, he knew exactly where to go.
He took a sharp turn, not noticing the way that Daisy's head slumped against the seat before he pulled into a suburban neighbour, looking for a specific house.
Quickly, he pulled up onto the drive and parked in front of some random house.
He turned to unbuckle Daisy and that's when he noticed that she was unconscious. His hand flew to her neck as he frantically tried to find her pulse.
"No, no, no," he wanted to scream out, cursing the Gods for doing this to him. His hands were shaking, unable to find her pulse, "Come on baby, I can't lose you too,"
When he felt that steady thump of her pulse, he let out a sigh of relief, head knocking against the passenger seat in relief.
He walked to the other side of the door, picking her up bridal style once again before pounding on the door.
An older woman opened up. Her hair was brown but turning grey and if Daisy was awake, she would have been able to spot the resemblance in an instant.
It was his mother.
"Luke. My boy, come on in," she said excitingly, ushering her son in.
She closed the door behind her and Luke looked around at the house he had grown up in. It was dark and there was stacks of sandwiches lined up on the tables. Just like he liked.
"Hi mum, please can you give me alone a moment to settle in," he couldn't deal with her insanity right now.
He looked down at Daisy, wondering if his mother could see her through thr mist of not but he didn't care. All that mattered was that she was okay.
"Sure, I'll bake a fresh batch of cookies for you," she said, patting her son on the cheek before walking into the kitchen.
He cringed internally. This was the last place he wanted to be. He couldn't stand to even look at his mother or his childhood house but he had to suck it up for Daisy.
Muscle memory took him towards his childhood room and he nudged the door open with his knee before looking around.
He lay her down on what was now a twin sized bed. That's when he realised that everything else had stayed the same except his mother had bought him a new bed. It was almost like she knew he would come home one day.
"Luke," she mumbled, eyes blinking as they tried to adjust to the light.
Daisy had never felt this much pain before. Not after the car crash that killed her mum and stepdad, not when the monster attacked her on the way home from school.
She couldn't even hold her head up and if it wasn't for Luke having propped her up slightly in the bed, she wouldn't even be able to see him sitting there next to her.
He looked exhausted. She didn't know where she was or how they had gotten there. The last thing she remembered was collapsing in the little North Dakoga town.
Luke didn't seem too injured. All she could see was a large cut over his eye, the blood still slightly oozing from the wound.
He grabbed her hand, moving slightly closer to her. He had been so worried that she wouldn't wake up but now she was here. She was alive.
"I'm here, I'm here," he said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
He fed her an ambrosia squarez hoping that he had given her the correct amount.
"I'm really cold," Daisy said, her voice already sounding more alert.
He nodded, knowing that with the amount of blood loss she had sustained, she wad probably struggling.
"You're gonna have to sew me up," she said and his eyes went wide at the idea.
Without hesitation, he searched his house for his mothers first aid kit before returning back.
She walked him through it, telling him what to do even when it really hurt. He cleaned the wound, apologising profusely every time she swore under her breath.
He even sowed her up again. It was haphazard but it would have to do until they got back to camp.
He fed her an ambrosia square - the last one that they had - and she took a second, tasting her mother's pasta on her tongue.
She felt better nearly instantly, not even flinching as he wrapped the bandage around her stomach.
When he was down, he pulled away, a blush on his face from how much he had touched her. Normally she would make fun of him but it didn't seem like an appropriate time.
As warmth flooded her system and she began to feel better, she realised how injured Luke was.
"Your face," her hand reached up and she brushed against the skin next to it, careful not to irritate the wound.
His face flushed at the touch, "I'm fine, I'm fine. I don't care about me all I need is for you to live,"
"You've got to be alright as well," she responded, eyebrows scrunched up.
Daisy knew that she couldn't live without him. Not now and not ever.
Luke shrugged his shoulders, "Nobody would care if I died," he said, almost like he had thought about it before. His legacy.
"Loads of people would. I would," her voice was soft as she grabbed his hand, "I need you luke,"
They were silent for a second, staring into one another's eyes. Who knows what would have happened if there hadn't been a knock on the door.
"Who's your friend?" A voice said and they both turned to look at the door.
Their adrenaline was still up after the quest and it was survival instincts that made them belive it was a threat.
The woman at the door was just Lukes mother and all she wanted was to make sure they were okay. She held a plate of cookies in her hands, setting them down on the table shakily.
Daisy tried to sit up, wanting to be more polite and actually meet Lukes mother but he stopped her from going too far, hand on top of hers.
When she saw that, his mothers eyes lit up, "Girlfriend? How wonderful,'
"Mom, no-" Luke started, eyes wide.
At that point, he had only just figured out his love for her. When he saw her bleeding out, that was the moment he knew he wouldn't survive without her.
Daisy just squeezed his hand, "Let her be happy Luke," she muttered to him.
She knew what it was like when people were not fully there. They couldn't explain their situation and she knew it would hurt less to just go along with it.
"It's lovely to meet you Mrs Castellan, I'm Daisy Valance," She said, sitting up.
May had the biggest grin on her face. This traumatised woman seemed happy to be able to be with her son for a little while.
"What a gorgeous name for a gorgeous girl," she said, hands shaking as she reached forward for her son who just pulled away, "You must stay for a while,"
"Maybe a few days. Thank you for your hospitality ma'am," Daisy could see how much she wanted them to stay and it pained her to know they would leave again.
"No problem. For my boys girlfriend, you can have anything," She stepped forward, patting her leg before walking out of the room.
It was silent for a little while after that. She didnt know just how troubled his mother was.
"I thought you said she could see through the mist," Daisy said. She knew they must look bad, bruised and bloody.
"She can. Just not very well anymore," he said, a sombre tone to his voice, almost like he was trying to remember how she was before she went insane, "We can't stay for long,"
"Just for a while. I can barely move Luke," she said, looking up at him.
He squeezed her hand, just like she had done earlier, "For you. Anything," he echoed his mother's sentiment.
They ate some of the edible food in the house before she fell asleep, exhausted after the day.
Her temperature had gone up and her wound looked okay and he hoped she was going to be okay. He didn't know what he'd do without her.
When he was sitting on the porch later that night, he heard a rustling in the bushes, pulling his sword out and looking at the figure.
"Son," the man said.
He shook his head, not in the mood to talk to him, "Go away Hermes,"
"I'm here to offer you help. I can get you back to camp tonight," he promised, "You should leave your mother alone, she is fragile,"
Luke stood up, pointing his finger at his father with an accusatory glare, "My girl is fragile. She needs help an-"
His father cut him off with a wave of his hand, "I'll get you a ride back to camp. They can fix her up there,"
"I won't accept anything from you," he said with a scoff.
"I know you stole money from your mother. You're my son after all, mischevious," luke could feel the money burning a hole in his pocket. He needed it to get back to camp.
"I'm not your son. I'm nobody's son," he spat out, turning back to look at his father.
He hadn't helped him at all during his life. He had gotten through life fine without him and he didn't need him now. Or ever.
"Olay. Whatever you want to say Luke," He held his hands up in surrender, knowing it was no use, "I've called a cab and it will be here tomorrow morning. 8 am sharp. It will take you both back to camp,"
"I failed the mission," he muttered, not sure if he was talking to Hermes or himself.
"Does it count as failing if you survived?" He asked cryptically.
Luke shook his head, furious still at his fathers appearance, "If she doesn't make it then it will be failure,"
"Luke," a voice called out and his heart sped up at the sound of her voice. She sounded so frail.
"She needs me," he said, eyes wide.
At that moment, Hermes saw the pure love in his sons eyes; it was the same look he used to have when looking at May.
He turned around, opening the door  to the house and getting ready to step inside.
"Good luck my boy," He heard Hermes say before the door closed.
He went in and sat by her side, brushing her hair out of her eyes. She had this frantic look on her face that he didn't recognise.
"I had a nightmare, I'm sorry, I don't know why I called for you," she said, a little ashamed.
"We all get them," he said.
She shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut like it would keep out the memory, "This one was worst. There was this cloaked man and-"
He grabbed her hand again, holdig her, "Shh, don't worry about it right now. You need your rest,"
She felt weak. She wasn't supposed to be so weak. She was one of the best in camp and here she was crying, bedridden.
"Luke. Can you stay with me?" She asked sheepishly like a little child.
He moved to the other side of the double bed, tucking himself under the covers and lying down beside her.
She lay her head on his chest, feeling safe for the first time in a while. She could feel his heart pounding and she just cuddled up closer to her.
"Always," He promised. He loved her more than life itself and that's what he realised on this quest, "I'll never let anyone hurt you ever again,"
Daisy didn't even hear the end of his sentence because she had fallen asleep, so exhausted from her wounds.
He would get the taxi the next morning that his father had provided. Whilst he didnt need his hospitality, he needed to make sure Daisy was okay and the best place for her was at camp.
He struggled to sleep that night, unable to stop worrying about her and whether she was going to be okay.
Tumblr media
Daisy in the present day woke up with a jolt, her hands pressed against the bed as she sat up.
She could feel her heart pounding in her chest at the memory, her palms sweaty.
Even though the dream was over, she could still hear some voice laughing at her, mocking her naivety like there was something going on that she wasn't privy to.
Right now, she didn't want to think about it. She didnt want to relive the nightmares.
Slowly, she climbed down from her top bunk bed and looked around at the cabin. They were all asleep and she was standing there, shaking and horrified.
Without thinking, she walked put of her cabin, almost in a trance. She wandered into the Hermes cabin and everyone was fast asleep.
She turned and muscle memory walked her towards Lukes bunk. He was on the bottom bunk and she tapped him on the shoulder like a little girl again.
He opened his eyes blearily and when he saw her standing there, he knew something was wrong.
He rubbed his eyes before sitting up in the bed and finally getting a good look at her. Her eyes were red and she looked scared, more scared than he had seen her in years.
It had been a while since she had come here after a nightmare, asking for him to just hold her for a minute - it was only the second time since they started dating.
Luke knew what was wrong in an instant and he pulled her in for a hug, head laying on her chest.
"I don't know why it came back," she muttered before pulling away.
The bed was small but he pulled the cover up, encouraging her to get in with him.
She snuggled up close to him, half on him and half on the bed. She lay her head on his chest just like she had done when they were on the mission and he brushed a hand over her hair soothingly.
"I'm gonna protect you remember. You're safe when you're with me," he promised.
She nodded. She knew it was true. They had gone through so much on that quest but they were both alive and that's what matters.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" He asked, voice quiet.
She shook her head and he knew that it must have been bad. He wondered if she had been visited by the man in the desert yet.
Maybe this was the moment where he turned 100% to the cause, no hesitation.
"I'll be here when you want to talk," he promised.
They spoke in hushed voices for a minute before she fell asleep against him.
He pressed a kiss to her head and this time, he managed to keep the nightmares away. He didn't let Kronos plague her with those dreams again.

It was too early in the morning. She was called into a meeting about the quest, all of the eligible campers being offered up for the quest.
"The oracle has said what we predicted. That this quest will proceed towards the underworld where you will confront Hades," Chiron announced.
She looked at him and Mr D as they stood in a circle around the room. Percy seemed nervous about the situation, about choosing.
Daisy remembered standing here two years ago, hands behind her back, a nervous smile on her face as Luke stood in the exact same spot as Percy did now.
"The entrance to his domain is in Los Angeles, this is where you will journey to. Time is short," he explained.
She looked to her side at Luke. His eyes were trained forward, hands behind his back.
She was more calm. She didn't need to go on the quest, she had enough glory. Actually, her life was pretty perfect and she'd rather not go on the quest.
Luke did, she could see it in that determined look in his eyes. He really wanted to help Percy on that quest.
Deep inside, Daisy hoped that it wasn't going to be her or Luke, especially not him.
He had gone through so much over the years and she knew that if there was one more quest than he would get pushed over the end.
"I have picked many candidates to make sure that you succeed on your quest," Chiron said, gesturing to the others.
Percy took one scan of the room, eyes lingering on Luke and Daisy for a second.
He didn't hesitate before looking across the room, "Annabeth. I want Annabeth,"
She seemed shocked by it but also excited about it all. Daisy looked at her, shooting her a smile
Chiron looked down at Percy, "Customarily, one waits to at least hear a name or two before choosing," he whispered, "Are you sure you don't want to hear more?"
"It's going to be hard to get? Yes?" Percy questioned.
"Extraordinarily," the centaur said, looking at the boy confused. He didn't know where he was going with this.
"If the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs, you'd want someone who won't hesitate when they go it," he said, eyes trained on Annabeth.
Daisy smiled to herself. She could see the looks shared between Percy and Annabeth, there was something going on between them.
Chiron looked at the couple as well. He could see the same look shared between them as there was between Daisy and Luke when they first met.
Contempt.
"The first quest mate shall be Annabeth chase," Chiron said, trying to hide the smile on her face.
"Now on to the next candidate," Chiron said and before he could even say all of their names, percy spoke again.
"I want Grover," he said.
Mr D groaned. He was tired of this biy and his choices, "He's not here,"
"Grover will be my next quest mate," he said with a firm voice.
Chiron looked out at the group and then down at the young boy. He was the one that the camp had been waiting for and they weren't going to refuse him.
He accepted the decision and the rest of the campers were let go and Luke and Daisy walked away.
She took a sigh of relief, a heavy burden on her chest being set free.
"You okay?" Luke asked, reaching down and lacing his fingers with hers.
She looked at him, all of her fears washing away. They were going to be safe here at camp together.
She nodded, feeling shy for some reason, "I'm just glad we weren't picked,"
Luke cocked his head to the side. He didn't understand why she wouldn't want to go on another quest.
After their quest was such a disaster, Chiron had banned all other minor quests and Daisy had seen that as a good thing. Luke enjoyed the chance to prove himself.
She could see the confusion on his face and she just shook her head. Daisy stopped in the middle of the path before stepping to the side.
"Our quest, it ruined me Luke. I couldn't sleep, I had constant nightmares. I feared for my life. I don't think I can do that again," she explained.
He could see the fear in her eyes at the ides of going on another quest and anger flared in his stomach.
This was what the Gods did. They destroyed good people for their selfish games and Luke was tired of it. He was tired of good people getting hurt.
Without any hesitation, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight against him.
"I won't let them hurt you again," he promised, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, "You know I'll protect you from anything,"
She looked up at him and she couldn't resist the urge to get onto her tip toes and press a kiss to her lips, his eyes fluttering closed.
"Though I know you don't need protecting," he said, pressing another kiss to her lips.
"Thank you," she muttered and he tilted his head to the side again in confusion like he always did.
She never told Luke the extent of her nightmares, of the amount of trauma that she went though on that quest.
"You saved me Luke. Not only did you save my life, you stopped me from going insane," his eyes softened as he heard how much he had helped her.
He remembered seeing the vacant look in her eyes after the quest as she would sit in the cabin. The way she wouldn't speak to anyone and just lie there, silent..
It reminded him of his mother.
There was that seed of pride again, at the idea that he had saved her life, not that she owed something to him.
"I'll always save you," he promised. And he meant it, "I love you Desdemona Valance,"
He looked at her and all she saw was love in her eyes. She always knew of the fates, knowing that they hovered around but as she looked at him in that moment, not only did she fall more in love with him, but she finally understood.
Fate was always there. Luke was her soulmate no mater what happened. Even if the Gods pulled them apart he would always be hers and she would be his.
"I love you Luke Castellan," she leaned up, pressing another kiss to his lips.
Her hand fell to his neck and she could feel his pulse quicken against her hand. She smirked into the kiss, knowing he was telling the truth.
He loved her with every fibre of his being.
Tumblr media
Luke and Daisy knew how difficult quests were and they wanted to contribute something to try and make it a little bit easier for the three teenagers.
"How much money did they give you?" Luke asked as they stood in front of the Poseidon cabin.
Percy looked up at the two of them as they stood in the doorframe. He was so caught in his own thought that he didn't  hear them coming.
He looked down at the bag that he had been given, pulling out a little bag of money.
"200 dollars in cash and a bag of these. They might be Canadian, or from chuck e cheese," he said.
He looked at the golden coins and Daisy stepped forward, coming to stand in front of him.
"They're golden drachma. Dollars for human world, drachmas for mythic world. Don't mix them up," Luke said.
Daisy laughed a little bit, a memory hitting her, "Luke learnt his lesson when a very angry cab driver punched him in the face for giving him the wrong money,"
They looked at each other with a knowing look, a smile on their faces as they remembered the quest.
Whilst it had its issues and it had caused them a lot of pain over the years, that was when she really fell in love with him.
"Noted," Percy said, a half hearted smile on his face
He seems nervous, and rightfully so. She was nervous on her quest and she was older than him then, she didn't know how a twelve year old would undertake the more harrowing quest the camp had seen in years.
"We come baring gifts," Daisy said to try and cheer him up a little bit.
She dug into her satchel and pulled out a few things that she thought he might need, placing them in his open palms.
"So I have an extra ambrosia square because they never give you enough, twenty dollars and some snacks for the way there," she said, placing the bag of snacks next to him.
There were so many things she wished she had when she went on the quest with Luke and that was advice.
There weren't many quests given in camp and at the time, hers and Lukes was the most important for years.
She sat down next to him and he looked over at her, a smile on his face of gratitude for the gifts.
"Lukes present trumps mine," she said, leaning in like they had a secret that Luke didn't know about.
Luke handed him the box and Percy looked down at it. He pulled the lid off to see a pair of red converse.
"I don't think shoes are better than crisps," He said, looking at Daisy, "Sorry Luke,"
The older boy smiled, waiting to see what the boy thought about the shoes.
He sat down on the opposite side of Percy before he pulled out one of the shoes from the box.
He held it in his hand, holding eye contact with Percy, "Maia," he whispers to the shoes.
They sprouted wings and Percy looked at them in awe, excited to have two friends who cared about him so much.
"Those are better than crisps," He said, the biggest smile on his fave.
"Theyre a gift. From my dad," he stated, almost bitterly but Percy didn't pick up on that tone.
He whispered the same word to the shoes again and the wings went inside. He placed the shoe back in the box and Percy closed the lid.
"I thought about choosing one of you before choosing Grover," he stated, almost seeming nervous.
Daisy shrugged it off, she didnt mind not being picked, "Grover is a lot stronger than people think,"
"I was afraid," he admitted before he began to ramble, "I have a chance to rescue my mum and I can't let anything stop me. I'm afraid if it gets in the way of the quest then Annabeth will stop it a-"
Luke cut him off, standing up and pulling Percy up with him.
"It's okay. We get it, we went on a quest once too. Just take care of each other out there," he said.
Luke loved Annabeth like a little sister. He couldn't lose her out there, not like he nearly lost Daisy. Not like he lost Thalia.
Daisy stood up as well, standing in front of Percy. He looked so tiny, so young to go on such a dangerous quest.
Her heart was pounding in her chest. She didn't know what she would do if any of these children got hurt because of the Gods.
"Remember what we taught you about sword fighting. Hold fast Percy, you'll make it through this one," she said, pulling him in for a hug.
He held her tight, remembering the last words that his mother said to him. He may not have her anymore, and Daisy was in no way a replacement, but it was nice to have someone to look out for him.
When she pulled back, Percy stepped back as well. Luke placed a hand on the boys shoulder, giving him an encouraging smile.
They were both worried about him and doubted the Gods choice for three preteens to go on such a dangerous quest, but they had to let it happen.
As they walked out of the room, Percy left standing in the cabin alone, he could almost hear his mother's voice.
Hold fast. Brave the storm.

The next day, Luke was called off early in the morning and although she should have been there too, Chiron still had her assigned to looking after Percy.
Chiron saw how special the new kid was and he seemed to have a special gift in noticing these things.
She remembered when Luke came to camp after she got there. Chiron told her that he was going to change everything and here he was, in love with her.
Her life had changed completely since then and she knew that was what he meant. She hoped.
Percy was curious. He was always asking about the stories from camp, about what she had done, about quests she'd been on - which she clarified she'd only been on one.
He laughed at the silly stories about Luke running from the cleaning harpies or her, Nina and Lily jumping into the lake one summer.
Deep down, he knew he wanted something just like that.
They walked into the clearing and she quickly wrapped up the story about when Luke visited her at NYU and had to fight off a gorgon.
Percys brows furrowed as he heard the sound of grunting and swords clashing against each other and when they turned the corner, he watched in awe at the scene.
There were people training with swords and people putting their armour on.
"Camp warfare, all Glory to the Victor's," she explained.
He looked around, a smile on his face as he took it all in. This was the life he was going to lead from now on.
"Where's Luke?" He asked, scanning the area.
She spotted him instantly, seeinf him standing with Annabeth discussing the plan, "Training, see,"
She pointed him out and Percy nodded. He didnt expect Daisy to whistle for him, and definitely not for the boy to look up at her.
She chuckled, watching as he finished his conversation with Annabeth.
"You guys are like the IT couple right?" Percy asked.
Daisy smiled. It was nice for kids who often didn't have stable parents to see a happy couple for once.
They had been branded the IT couple since they first met, an unbreakable duo that became the most powerful kids in camp.
"A little bit like that. We're kind of the oldest in the camp, the most awarded. It's not self proclaimed, don't worry. It was Annabeth who called us that," she said.
She remembered Annabeth being a little girl, 8 years old and asking about the couple. Curious as to what a healthy relationship looked like.
They basically raised her over the years and Daisy cared about her like she would her own sister, or a daughter.
"Annabeth?" Percy asked, curious about her.
"She's the head Councillor of the Athena Cabin and she's led our team to three straight wins, been a long time since anyone's won a fourth," she explained.
Luke ran over, pressing a kiss to his girlfriends cheek before standing next to Percy, ruffling the kids hair affectionately.
"You talking about me?" He asked teasingly.
"No, Annabeth," she stated and he nodded, knowing that they were talking about the games.
They both looked over at Annabeth as she commanded the troops around her..
Percy looked over as well, slightly intimidated by her, "We're on her side all the time, she's his little sister," Daisy said.
The boy looked at Luke. Now it made sense why they were all so friendly, why Annabeth seemed to mean so much to them.
Daisy turned to her boyfriend, "You free for lunch Hun?" She asked.
"Yeah, of course," he said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder before walking the three of them over to the mess hall.
They grabbed some food from the stands and then sat down at the bench closest to the arena where the training was.
"When did you guys meet?" Percy asked, curious about the couple.
They were so popular and so revered around camp that he wanted to know everything about them.
"We met here, he came to camp a few months after I did," she explained, "I ran away from my Foster home again. My mum had died only a year earlier and I hated it,"
She looked at him and all of the memories from their first meeting came back to her.
It was November and most campers weren't there. She's always been a self diagnosed insomniac and couldn't sleep that night.
"I had snuck out of my cabin that night and heard yelling so I ran to the camp sign where I saw Luke and he was with Annabeth and this forbidden girl. Thalia,"
Their screams would be forever embedded into her mind. The image of a seven year old begging for help, screaming out. The image of Luke yelling at the Gods, asking them why they would do that.
They were just kids back then, 13 and 14 and having to look after each other, looking after everyone.
"What does that mean? Forbidden?" Percy asked.
Luke noticed her flinch when he asked that. He had known her long enough to know when she was in her own mind, thinking about it all.
He placed his hand on her thigh, reassuring him that he was there for her and wasn't going to go anywhere.
He remembered her that day, running through the woods to go and stand by them, helping Annabeth up after the death of the cyclops.
She sat there with the girl, bandaging up her arm from where she'd been hit. Then she looked up at Luke, her eyes meeting his for the first time and she became his savior, an angel that he would follow anywhere.
He's still unsure whether it was Apollo or just her but he swore she was glowing that night.
"A long time ago Zeus, Posideon and Hades agreed their children were becoming too powerful so they made a part not to father anymore. Zeus broke that paxt by having Thalia," Luke explained.
He looked at Daisy, checking to see if she was okay and when he saw that she was, he kept talking.
"Thalia didn't make it but Annabeth and me did and we've been family since," he explained.
He had never had a real family before but Annabeth was his sister. He was lucky to have these people around him.
"Annabeth. She's been watching me since I got here. Why?" Percy asked.
"Annabeth is the strongest warrior in camp. I'm the best swordsman, Daisy's the best archer but Annabeth is the best at everything," Luke told him.
"Chiron promised her that one day a demigod would arrive who was fated ro fo on a quest and when that happened she could join. She wants to know if you're the one," she explained.
He scoffed, clearly not caring that much about it, "Can you ask her to knock it off?"
"What if she's right?" Luke asked, leaning in to him.
Percy didn't have much time to think about it because at that moment, Chiron blew the conch, the sound resonating through the whole of camp.
He waited a second before proclaiming, "Heroes. Its time, the games begins,"
"Come on Percy, let's have some fun," Daisy said, standing up and following the crowd of campers running to the creek. He followed quickly, sticking with the couple.
They made it to the creek and everyone was quick to put their armour on and grab their weapons of choice.
Luke tugged on the last strap as he stood behind her, making sure the breastplate was secure. He pressed a quick kiss to where her neck and shoulder met before he rushed off to talk to Annabeth.
Like a little child being dressed by his mother, Daisy helped to put on Percys armour, teaching him where all the straps were and how to tie it all.
It was nice to have someone that cared about him but bittersweet, it all reminded him of his mother.
Luke came back just as Chiron called everyone to attention. Daisy put on her helmet, listening to the centaur speak.
"The first team to retrieve the opposing flag and return it across the river shall be the Victor. No maiming and no Killing," he stated, "Let the games begin,"
He blowed the conch shell again and the red team let out a yell. Their battle cry clearly spooked Percy as he just shook his head.
"I'm gonna need to use my sword," he muttered to himself.
As per tradition, they had twenty minutes to hide and to get situated within the woods before the real games  began with the blow of the conch horn.
Annabeth walked over to the three of them. Luke and Daisy were her go to team leaders but she had a new strategy for today.
"We have twenty minutes before the second conch and game on. You two know what you're doing?" She asked.
"Yes ma'am," Luke said, dipping his head before turning around.
Daisy was paired up with him, the two leading the biggest team through the woods.
"Luke," Annabeth called out and he stopped, looking over his shoulder at her, "While you and Daisy are out there, don't kiss too much,"
"Yes ma'am," Daisy replied, a smile on her face.
She saw Annabeths grin and it made her heart warm. She loved seeing how happy Annabeth was for them.
"Company, move out!" Daisy yelled out and their legion followed them into the woods.
She didn't look behind her but she knee that Percy was going to be confused about the whole situation.
Even though she wanted to bring him along, Annabeth forbade it as she had other plans for him. They just had to let this all work out.
Her and Lukes team ran across the bridge and then into the woods, but they stayed on their side.
This was their usual tactic, to stay in this side of the woods. They were the first line of defense before the flag.
Daisy barely had time to catch her breath before she spotted someone in the distance running towards them.
"Get ready!" Luke yelled out.
When the red team arrived in their clearing of the woods, Daisy jumped into action mode, pulling her sword out.
Her Archery skills weren't needed in today's plan and she trusted Annabeth so instead she held her trusty sword in hand, remembering everything Luke taught her.
She knocked somebody's sword out of their hand, ducking just at the right time and watching it fly into a tree.
Her and Luke found each other eventually, standing back to back as they covered one another from any attacks.
One of the larger guy came over and she knew that her sword fighting skills weren't going to be good enough.
Instead, she used Lukes back and leaned against him before kicking the man in the chest.
She watched Nathan from the Hephestaus cabin tumble to the floor before she moved away, blocking someone with her shield.
Daisy didn't see who it was, but when she turned around, someone had sliced her arm with their sword.
She let out a yell before turning around and going to hit the person but there was nobody there.
Luke heard her scream and when he saw one of the older campers standing there next to her with blood on his sword, he did the only thing he could think of.
He disarmed the teenager, watching their helmet fall off bfore he punched him in the face, watching him fall to the ground.
"We give up," the red team leader said when she saw the way the fire burned in Lukes eyes, almost glowing.
The team cheered but Daisy couldnt look away from Luke. She was glad he was standing up for her but there was something strange in his face.
He had this smug smile on his face and an almost bloodthirsty look in his eyes. But the second he looked at her, his features softened.
"You okay baby?" He asked, rushing to her side.
Her heart filled with warmth as she looked at him, brows furrowed and eyes laser focused on the wound on her arm.
"It's just a cut, I've recieved worse," she promised and he looked up at her. When he saw that there was little pain on her face, he let out a sigh of relief.
"I know, we were both there on that quest," he chuckled, thinking back to the injuries they received then.
Hers was hidden, a large scar over her right side, spanning her ribs. His was more obvious, a scar over his eye.
Luke knew he was doing exactly what Annabeth told him not to do, get distracted by his girlfriend.
He looked out at the group who were chatting amongst themselves.
"I wanna move quick, straight through the woods to their flag," he said.
Chris shook his head, he knew all about the other teams tactics, "We both know Clarisse hunts in those woods for the first few hours,"
"She's gonna cut us down," Lily said as she came to stand beside him.
"Annabeth has a plan," Daisy reassured as she pulled a roll of bandages out of her pocket - she always carried it around.
They knew that the plan was to lure Clarisse out using Percy. Her vendetta against him was obvious and this was going to help them to win.
Chris groaned, looking at Lily. The two of them had figured out that Percy was the plan and both of them didn't really believe in it.
"When it's time, he'll be ready. I know it," Daisy said as she put the end of the bandages between her teeth, ripping it apart before she stuffed the roll in her pocket.
She wrapped the bandage haphazardly against her forearm, Luke tying it gently at the top.
Daisy took a deep breath. She was ready to help lead this team to another victory.
"Move out!" She yelled and their team followed her through the woods.
They knew where the flag was going to be. Clarisse was predictable, she always left it in the exact same place. Every time.
This time, she wasn't there to defend it. There were only a few of her red team lackeys and they managed to take them out fast enough.
The daughter of ares had failed this time, allowing her revenge to take over and it gave them the chance to look up at the flag.
Annabeth normally made it there first and would take the flag but this time, she was elsewhere, looking after Percy.
"You grab it sweetheart," Luke said as he stood behind her.
She looked up at him, the biggest grin on her face before she grabbed the flag and lifted it into the air.
Her team yelled out in a group cheer, all of them glad that they had reached a four time winning streak for the game.
They ran towards the lake, placing the flag down where they had been instructed to.
Chiron was waiting there and he blew the conch shell when he saw the red flag placed down. They had won.
All of the blue team that were out in the woods came out and cheered at their victory, everyone so excited with the win that they didn't see Percy and Annabeth by the lake.
Luke picked his girlfriend up, spinning her around before kissing her passionately, not caring what anyone else said.
She leaned her head on his chest, taking a second to appreciate the moment. The roar of the victory, his body against hers.
She pulled away when she heard someone yell out. The cheers went quiet and everyone's gaze went to the lake.
Annabeth had pushed percy into the lake and he was sitting there, an angry expression on his face.
"What is wrong with you?" He yelled out but stopped when he noticed something.
His wounds were being healed by the water and everyone watched, realising what this meant.
The blue trident sign lit up over his head as he stood up, claiming him ad the son of Poseidon.
Daisy didn't need to look to see the dissappinted expression that befell Lukes face.
She knew that he wanted to have Percy on his team, that if he remained unclaimed then his anger for the Gods would only grow.
"You have been claimed by Poseidon. Earth shaker, storm breaker," Chiron announced.
Everyone cheered for him, the camp alight with the buzz of the blue team victory and the claiming of a son of Poseion.
Daisy grabbed onto Lukes hand, her head falling onto his armour clad shoulder.
"It's okay," she said and he leaned down, pressing a kiss to the top of her head before they went to celebrate with the other, congratulating Percy.
There was the feeling of pride in her heart but buried in there was also relief that Percy had been claimed. He was going to be okay.

The next day, Percy woke up with a jolt after his nightmare. When he looked around, he noticed that the boy from yesterday, Luke, was watching.
He scrambled up, feeling the embarrassment flush over him as he realised that everyone had seen his moment.
"You alright?" Luke asked, holding a hand out and helping the boy up.
"Super," he said sarcastically, brushing his hands on his clothes.
"We all have them you know. Intense recurring nightmares. And the daydreams, and the ADHD and dyslexia. Demigods just process things differently," he explained.
Percy instantly felt at ease with this boy but was still unsure whether Daisy trusted him or not. If she did, then he knew he was okay.
"So are you also?" Percy tried to ask him whether he had a parent or not here, but didn't know how to phrase it, "Do you not know who-"
He chuckled a little at the boys confusion, "Am I unclaimed? No, Hermes is my father but that doesn't matter. We're all on the same team here,"
Percy scoffed. There was this anger bubbling up inside of him at the unfairness of the way that the gods could just ignore their children.
"Why is that okay? Why do they bring us here to ignore some of us?" He questioned.
Lukes face lit up. This was perfect. Percy was perfect and his raw hatred to the Gods was going to help his cause more than he knew.
"If you spend too much time trying to figure out why the Gods do whay they do and you'll drive yourself mad," he said, a smile on his face.
They were silent for a second, neither knew what to do. Percy was supposed to have his tour but his your guide had not yet arrived.
"Luckily you got here for summer which means our resident newby helper is back here to visit," Luke explained, "We'll show you around and tell you what camp has to offer,"
"What's that?" He asked, still not sure what the purpose of camp was or what he could gain from it.
That smirk grew on Lukes face again, "Glory,"
Percy let that sink in for a second, wondering how a camp could bring him glory before he realised that someone was going to be helping Luke to show him around, "Who will be leading us round?"
"She was the medic who looked after you, Desdemona Valance. Most beautiful woman in all of New York," he said with a lovesick expression.
Percys face scrunched up in confusion. He had noticed some tension between them and had assumed it was anger, maybe it was just love.
"She didn't seem like she liked you too much yesterday," he said, folding his arms across his chest.
He laughed, finding it funny that Percy thought that, "Don't you worry kid, she likes me plenty," he promised.
He knew Daisy had walked in by the way that everyone clambered to say hello to her but she just said her hellos and good mornings and walked over to see Luke and Percy.
"Just in time pretty girl," he admired her for a second, long hair tied up with a bow in the back before he looked at Percy, "You remember Daisy,"
Of course he remembered her. He had only felt safe around one person so far and that was her.
"You better watch your mouth Castellan, you keep calling me pretty and I'll get an ego," she teased.
He scoffed, the smile on his face growing, "Apollo kids always have an ego,"
They seemed to be in their own world, not paying attention to anyone else. The older boy tapped his cheek.
She sighed at his antics, trying to hide her smile but it was obvious on her face.
Daisy leaned over, pressing a kiss to his cheek. Luke placed two fingers on the underside of her jaw, maneuvering her so he could press a kiss to her lips.
"Oh," Percy said as he realised that they were dating, now it all made sense.
Daisy blushed, having forgotten that the boy was there. Luke, however, knew he whole time.
"See, she likes me plenty," he stated, an arm wrapping around her waist.
Daisy said her good mornings to Percy before jumping straight into her job, "So, what has Luke been filling your head with?
"Glory," he stated.
She scoffed, looking at him. She knew what he wanted to do, she knew exactly what she saw in Percy and it made that bitter feeling grow in her stomach.
Daisy shrugged it off, hoping that her instincts were wrong as she gestured for them to walk out of the cabin with her.
Luke seemed excited as he explained the concept of Glory to him, molding the boy as he needed, "Demigods have always fought for Glory. They used to call it Kleos, its like this stuff that attaches itself to your name and makes it more important,"
Percy seemed eager to soak up the older boys information, watching him as they walked.
"People listen when you talk, they work harder to be your friend and they think twice before messing with you," he explained.
They crossed paths with Clarisse and her group of friends, the former of which purposefully bumping into Percy.
He was knocked to the ground and she looked at him, turning her nose up.
"Knock it off Clarise, it's his first day," Luke said, almost squaring up to her.
Daisy leaned down, holding her hand out and helping Percy up. He shrunk back, feeling safe in between Daisy and Luke.
"So this is the kid who killed the minotaur," Clarisse said, eyeing Percy up like he was a prey and she was the predator.
"Yeah?" The boy said, trying not to sound too timid.
"You want attention around here, better be ready for it when it comes," she walked off after that comment, her and her group laughing to themselves.
He scoffed, watching her ealk away, "Well she seems nice. Why don't they mess with you two?"
Daisy and Luke shared a knowing look. It was something the new kid would have to get used to, the way that the couple could almost read each others minds.
"They know better," Percy said.
Chris saw the altercation and had rushed over, standing at Lukes side, a hand on his shoulder.
"Luke is the strongest swordsman in camp. Daisy is the best archer and the best medic," he explained.
Percy looked at him. For the first time in his life he had become friends with the popular kids, the people that nobody dared to mess with.
"They leave you two alone because of Glory?" It was almost a rhetorical question and Daisy could see the cogs turning in his head, "People think you're a big deal,"
He was silent for a moment, almost like he was thinking about Glory. This was the way to get his father to notice him, for him to finally confront him.
"Where do we start?" Percy said after a while.
"Archery, my specialist subject," she said before she started to walk up the hill.
The kid finally managed to get a good look at camp. He saw the vast expanses of the strawberry fields and the pegasi as they walked around with the Demeter kids.
He also saw Glory in action. Everyone was nice to Daisy and Luke, saying hello and complimenting them. Some stayed clear of them, eyeing them suspiciously.
Percy knew he had found the good ones and he wasn't going to be leaving any time soon.
When they arrived at the top of the hill, the Archery section was mostly full of other Apollo kids.
"A good source of Glory are feats of skill, so we gotta figure out what you're good at," Daisy explained before saying hello to a few people.
"Watch her do this," Luke whispered to Percy as they watched her grab her specific bow.
She lined herself up against the target and took a shot and they all watched as it hit the bullseye. She shot another arrow out and it hit the same target, splitting the previous arrow in half.
She turned around and looked at the duo, her bow still aimed at the target. She hit it again, slightly higher this time so she didn't split the arrow a third time.
She put the bow down at her feet and everyone cheered. This was her glory, her special skill.
"Thats my girl," Luke cheered, pulling her in for a hug.
She pulled back so just his arm was wrapped around her waist. She picked up the bow, handing it to him.
"You try kid," he looked at the bow, clearly a little hesitant.
He positioned the bow, trying to replicate what she had done but he didnt shoot very well.
Instead, the arrow bounced back and started to bounce through the crowd of people.
Luke pulled her back, both of them ducking as they tried to avoid his aim.
"Should I try again?" Percy asked sheepishly.
She shook her hand, giving him a sympathetic smile, "Definitely not Apollo," she said as they took the bow back.
"Lets try another one," Luke suggested.
From there, they walked to the nearest cabin and their workstation which was just across the hill in the Hephestaus cabin workshop.
"Hey Jake, got a new kid," Luke said and Jake took a step back from the anvil, handing Percy his goggles.
Percy tried to hammer the hot metal, focusing all of his energy onto it. They watched, arms crossed as he tried his hardest.
Instead, the broken piece of metal shot out across the room and this time, it was Daisy who pulled him back so he wasn't hit by the flaming metal.
Percy looked at them as he pulled the goggles off. He felt awkward, and like he was disappointing his new friends.
"Lets have lunch," Daisy suggested, placing a hand on the kids shoulder before they walked away.
She wanted to take some pressure off of him. Glory would find him eventually, he just had to wait for it a little bit.
They entered the clearing and luke lead the way into the mess hall where all the other demigods were sat eating their lunch.
He walked over to the table where Nina was sitting alone and after grabbing food for everyone, they sat down at the table.
"Percy, this is my friend Nina, daughter of Demeter. Nina, this is Percy," she introduced as they sat down.
"Is there a Greek god of disappointment because maybe you should ask him if he's missing a kid," Percy said, defeatist.
Daisy remembered waiting only about four hours before her dad claimed her as his, but that was very common for Apollo kids.
She couldn't imagine the turmoil the boy must be going through seeing as it had already been a day since he joined.
"Oizys, but she's a goddess and her whole thing is more like failure," Chris said as he walked over, sitting down next to Nina
"You're cheery," Nina quipped, rolling her eyes at his comment.
"We'll find what you're good at, I know it," Daisy promised.
He gave her a half hearted smile, clearly upset and angry at the fact that his dad didnt want to claim him.
She watched the cogs in Lukes head turn. She knew he wanted to say something spiteful about the Gods but before he could, the bell went.
"Our turn," Nina said.
Almost like they were under some sort of spell, they all got up with their plates of food and started to approach the fire.
Percy looked at them confused, watching people scrape bits of food off of their plates.
"Is the food here really that bad?" He asked.
"Burnt offering. The Gods like smell so you say it before a prayer," Chris explained and Percy stood up.
"They like the smell of burnt mac and cheese?" He questioned, still confused about all the rituals of this place.
"They like the smell of begging," Luke stated.
As they scraped their food into the fire, Daisy looked at Luke. There was a strange and michevious glint in his eye.
She knew that this wasn't going to end well and her heart sank in her chest. She had to save Percy.

summary: the one where daisy returns to camp from college and is blinded by her love for him, even as the world ends

She took a deep breath, staring at the sign above her head. Camp Half Blood.
Daisy had missed it more than anything in the world. She had visited often to see Luke and he had come to New York to stay with her, but Camp was still her real home.
She slung the large bag she had brought over her back before she walked in, catching sight of a little blonde boy.
"Daisy!" He yelled out and she watched as Will ran up to her, engulfing her in a hug.
She chuckled, feeling everyone's eyes on her as she gave the kid a hug. It was always an occasion when Daisy Valance came home.
When luke heard her name get called his head whipped around and he saw her standing at the entrance, talking to a couple of people.
They began to swarm her and Luke smiled to himself. He always forgot how popular she was amongst the campers and he waited for a second, watching as she crouched down to talk to some of the younger campers.
He could never get enough of her. She seemed so happy as she picked up the youngest member of camp, six year old April who was still unclaimed.
Luke walked over, sword tucked into its sheath. She put down April and watched as the little girl ran over to Nina who could see that the girl needed time with her boyfriend.
She folded her arms over her chest, smiling at him. She had missed him so much.
"Look what the minotaur brought in," he teased, echoing the sentiment from when she got back in the winter.
Daisy couldnt hide the smile on her face, "Charmed as always,"
He stepped closer, pressing a kiss to her lips. He pulled back and she just kissed him again, a hand pressed against his chest.
They both ignored the whistling and cheers from the rest of camp at their sudden displays against affection.
She pulled away, ignoring the smirk on his face. Daisy knew Luke was a big fan of PDA, especially when they were the top campers.
"Get a room!" Someone yelled out and Daisy turned around, a blush spreading over her cheeks as she saw Chris and Lily standing there, laughing.
"I would have to agree with Mr Rodriguez and Miss White over there," Chiron said as he walked over.
He looked at the two of them. Chiron smiled at them, watching Luke wrap his arm around his girlfriends shoulder.
The centaur thought that they were the best couple he had ever seen, even if he had a strange sickness in his stomach like something would go wrong.
"Welcome back Miss Valance," he said.
"Mrs Castellan soon!" Chris yelled out and she stuck her middle finger up at them, cheeks warming up at the thought.
"I'm happy to be back sir, I should go get unpacked," she said, watching as Luke picked up her bags.
They started walking to the cabin and before they both went inside, he dropped the bags at his feet.
"One more kiss," he muttered, wrapping an arm around her waist.
He dipped her slightly as he kissed her passionately, glad that this time nobody was whistling as they kissed. There was finally a second of peace.
"I love you Miss Valance," he mumbled against her lips as he helped her back up.
She chuckled, "Chris been trying to get you to propose?" She joked.
Daisy smiled at the way his cheeks went red at the idea, not out of shame but out of wonder of what it would be like one day.
He looked down at the ring on her left hands middle finger. He had bought it for her for her birthday, a sign that she was his and he was hers.
He had a little necklace that he wore tucked under his shirt all year round. Her name etched into the circle in Greek. He belonged to her just as much.
"You know his humour," he said and she nodded.
"Come help me unpack?" She asked and he nodded, picking the bag up before walking inside.
Tumblr media
She remembered being shocked at the story of Annabeth and Luke when they first arrived at camp.
When she woke up to hear about a boy who had arrived with Grover who had killed a minotaur, it shocked her and she knew that she needed to be on the case.
She had been sitting in the camps infirmary from the early hours of the morning, changing the boys bandages ever half an hour.
Grover had been there for thirty minutes, watching over his friend as he explained the whole story to her.
The boy, Percy Jackson apparently, woke up and looked around, gasping for air.
He was clearly in shock. If Grover was telling the truth than this kid had been through hell and back in the last hour.
"Hey, hey, stay there kid," Daisy said, rushing over.
She pressed a hand on his shoulder and he lay back down. She knew that his wounds were healing but they were still pretty bad.
Percy looked at her. He was confused as to why some teenager in a yellow and white striped pinafore was telling him what to do.
"It's okay Percy, she's a friend," Grover said and the boy relaxed.
Daisy stepped back, allowing him to take a moment to let the whole thing settle in. She knew how unnerving this must all be.
Percys eyes drifted over to the table where the minotaur horn lay. He couldn't take his eyes off of it.
"It was all real," he muttered to himself.
He pushed himself up, sitting up right so that he could get a better look at the room he had spent the night in
"Be careful, you took a hard hit to the head there," she said.
Percy looked over at her confused, almost like he had forgotten that she was even there.
He stared at her in silence, wondering why everyone that he had seen already were teenager. They all seemed too young to be working at a summer camp.
"I'm Daisy Valance and I've been your medic," she said, breaking the awkward silence.
Grover nodded his head a little too enthusiastically, "She's the best medic around,"
She chuckled, "At least that's what they tell me,"
Daisy could see that look in the boys eyes, like he needed answers. She remembered seeing it in Lukes after his first nightmare.
He had a more traumatic journey to camp than she did and by the sounds of it, Percy had the most traumatic trip here than anyone else.
She walked over to the other side of the room, starting to grab the medicine and the ambrosia squares and wrapping them up.
"Everything that happened, did you see it?" Percy asked Grover.
There was a hesitant silence, "I did,"
The unclaimed boy didn't say anything for a second. He seemed heartbroken about the whole scenario.
She remembered how distraught she was after her mother's death and this was even worse for him. His mother gave her life for him.
"I'm sorry, maybe if I would have told you the truth sooner, your mum-" Grover started.
Percy scoffed, cutting him off, "Stop,"
"I know this isn't easy but we should talk about it," Grover tried to talk to him but he wasn't having any of it.
Daisy watched, feeling like she was intruding something but she knew what protocol was; at least one medic had to be in the infirmary at all times when there was an injured patient.
"I don't want to talk about it," the boy said, standing up and pulling his jacket on.
Daisy rushed over when she saw him getting up, knowing that he should rest for a little longer. The boy seemed stubborn and she knew he wouldn't follow her orders.
"Please be careful okay, you had a hit to the head but you should be fine. Just take it easy," she tried to tell him but he didn't seem too bothered.
She pat the boy on the shoulder and he looked up at him, the kindness in her eyes reminding him of his mother.
"You ever need me, I'm here," she promised, giving him a soft smile.
She turned and looked over her shoulder at Grover. She recognised the guilt in his eyes from the incident with Annabeth and Luke and Thalia.
He gave her a half hearted smile when she cocked her head at him, "You look after him Grover"
She walked out of the door and saw that Luke was sitting on the bench.
"What are you doing out here? Its early?" She questioned, tilting her head at him.
"It's mid day," he said and she looked down at her watch, noticing that she had been in there for a while.
He chuckled, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, "Maybe you work too hard,"
She shrugged, allowing him to walk them both across the path. She loved seeing camp in the summer, the bright light, the smell of pine.
"So, you met the man of the moment," luke questioned, curious.
The whole camp had heard about the twelve year old boy who killed the minotaur. The rumours had spiralled quickly and everyone knew.
"I did, he seems upset. His mum died out there so he needs some time," she explained.
They both had parental struggles. She had lost her mother and step father to a car accident when she was 9 years old. His mother was clinically insane.
Both of them had lost so much and managed to find each other, hopefully Percy would have the same.
They walked towards the Hermes cabin and the group cheered when they walked in.
Daisy laughed, the reaction whenever they would hold hands would never get old.
"All right, back to whatever you were doing," Luke said, ignoring them and walking over to his bed.
She sat there for a second before Chris and a couple of Lukes other friends came over, trying to get any news on the new kid.
Daisy, of course, protected her client patient confidentiality and swore that she wouldn't gossip too much.
They were of course mad but when they heard the monotonous tone of Chirons hooves against the floor, they knew they were in for a treat.
"Everyone," Chiron clapped to try to get everyone's attention.
The Hermes cabin all looked at him. None of them seemed too bothered by his speech.
"This is Percy Jackson, I trust you will see to whatever he needs," he said and everyone started talking again, ignoring him.
She looked at Luke, giving him a sympathetic smile before she hopped off of the bed, maneuvering her way to the front.
Chiron smiled when he saw her. He knew that if anyone would look after a new camper, it would be Daisy Valance.
"Ah, your first visitor, have fun there," he said, patting the young boy on the shoulder before walking off.
Percy was silent, clearly anxious about it all, "You're the girl from the infirmary,"
"Daisy," she reminded him with a smile, "Come on, I wanna introduce you to some people,"
He was hesitant to follow her, but nobody seemed to be making fun of her or yelling so he assumed that she was cool, he might be safe with her.
Everyone watched them as they walked towards the back of the cabin and Daisy stopped when she saw a sleeping bag.
"This is where you'll stay until you get claimed," she explained.
He knelt down next to it, looking through the bag on top. She assumed it was the one that he had come to camp with.
The boy pulled out a bag of blue candy from the bag, a sad look on his face before he put it back inside.
"You okay?" She asked and he stood up, giving her a half hearted smile.
He looked over her shoulder, seeing a group of boys standing there and watching, muttering something between themselves and laughing.
Daisy followed his gaze and saw the boys standing there and mumbling to one another.
Percy sighed. He knew it was too good to be true. It was like every other place he went, getting picked on and bullied.
"You gonna be rude and stare boys?" Daisy said, folding her arms at them.
"Please don't pick a fight for me," he asked, awkward.
He didn't see the way that the boy in the middle with the black hair and scar over his right eye stopped immediately at the girls disapproving stare.
She looked down at him, "Dont worry kid," she said and he didn't know where she got the confidence from to stand up to them.
Luke broke away from the group, walking over to them and Percy took a step forward so that he was slightly in front of Daisy.
She smiled at the action. This boy had only known her a few hours and was ready to take on a fight for her. She knew he was a good kid then.
"Look, if you wanna give me a hard time, just do it tomorrow," he said, shaking his head, "And she didn't mean it, so leave us alone,"
Daisy smiled at Luke over the boys shoulder. He could see that she was already favouring Percy even though they had just met.
"I heard what happened to you on the hill and I wanted to say I'm really sorry. I know what you're going through, believe me," he said.
Percy was taken aback by that. He assumed that they were going to get picked on but the boy seemed really sincere.
"Percy, this is Luke Castellan," she introduced,  "Boy wonder and head of the Hermes cabin. When I'm not here, he will look after you,"
He held his hand out and Percy looked at it, clearly suspicious about everyone still.
He had only made one friend and that was the girl standing behind him. He was still apprehensive.
"Like the pretty girl said, I'll look after you," he said, still holding his hand out.
It took him a second but then Percy shook his hand, looking up at the boy with a smile. He seemed nice.
"You get settled Percy and if you ever need me, you find me. I'll be in the Apollo cabin, that gold one," she said, taking a step forward so she was standing next to him.
She placed a hand on Percys shoulder and he was reminded of his mother and the way she would do that when she was leaving him.
Daisy turned to look at Luke with a glare in her eyes, "Be nice"
Percy wondered what the tension between them was. Maybe there was some sort of turf war going on between the two teenagers he had just met.
Whatever it was, he didn't want to be involved in it and he waved goodbye to Daisy as she walked out.
"I'm always nice gorgeous," Luke called out as she started to walk out.
Daisy laughed to herself then, sticking her middle finger up at him before walking out of the cabin. She trusted Percy would be safe with Luke.

The news spread quickly like it always did in Camp Half Blood. Although everyone had seen Luke and Daisy making out by the lake which definitely substantiated the rumours, the rumours still spread like wildfire.
They were the talk of the camp. For years they had been joined at the hip, best friends, partners in crime and now they were more.
Dating whilst at Camp was a hard thing to do because there weren't many romantic spots.
Luke wanted to take her kayaking and strawberry picking and he wanted to do all these things but it was Winter and impossible.
The three weeks went by fast though and sooner than later, she was going to have to head back to the Big city.
Luke and Daisy sat in the armoury together and she just watched as he strapped on the armour on her back just like he always did.
This time, it felt more intimate, more domestic. She turned her head and watched him.
He had hus tongue poking out between his lips as he focused on tying the piece of armour to the breastplate.
When he was finished, he stood up and admired his handiwork, "Good job Castellan," she said, patting him on the cheek.
She went to leave when she felt his hand grasp onto her wrist and pull her back into his chest so she was looking up at him, hands pressed against his chest.
"Hi gorgeous," he muttered, leaning down and pressing a chaste kiss to her lips.
When he pulled away, she moved her hand up, wiping away a little bit of lipstick from her lips.
"What are you gonna do without me?" She asked teasingly.
He hummed in response, "We can always send iris messages,"
She looked up at him, a smile on her face. She had never thought that way about a guy before, so in love it makes you crazy.
"That's very true, and I'll be back before you know it. We can have the whole summer to ourselves," she said.
He leaned down, nose nudging hers, "Perfect,"
He leaned in, a hand on the small of her back as he pulled her as close as he could.
She would never get over the feeling of him against her and she was completely out of it, so out of it that she didn't realise that she was pressed up against a wall of knives.
He moved his hand down to her leg, hitching it up over his hip when she knocked into a collection of spears.
They clattered onto the floor and both Luke and Daisy jumped back at the loud noise.
"This doesn't seem like the best place for kissing," Daisy remarked, pressing a quick kiss to his lips before grabbing her sword and leaving.
He watched her leave, a smile on his face. He had never loved someone like he loved her.
Tumblr media
"So, this is where I leave you," Luke said, parking the car outside of her apartment building that she was sharing with her friend Holly.
He had learnt to drive since their quest when they were 16 and 17 and now they were waiting to say goodbye.
"Be safe out here, if you have any monsters you think are there, you send me the pager message," he said.
She laughed. He knew that she didn't need help but was always ready to defend her.
Daisy leaned over the console and he pulled her into his lap and she yelped in shock.
"You're crazy Castellan," she said, shaking her head as she kissed him.
"I'm gonna miss you," he muttered against her lips.
She nodded, "I'll miss you too,"
They were silent for a moment, just relishing in a moment of just them two before they had to seperate again.
It would be 5 months and then she would be back at camp. Of course she would visit him and he'd visit her, but it wasn't the same.
"We should get going," she said, leaning her forehead against his.
He nodded, opening the car door and helping her out. When he got out and closed the door, her walke round to the trunk to grab her luggage.
"You want me to help you bring this up?" He asked and she shook her head.
"If Holly sees you, you will be grilled to death," she said, pressing a kiss to his cheek before grabbing her two bags.
That silence fell over them again. She had never had this much trouble leaving him before.
Maybe it was because they were dating now or maybe it was because she was concerned about whatever was going on with him.
She didn't want him to be without her at camp, alone with his thoughts, alone with the man who haunted his dreams.
"I wish I didn't have to go," she said, finally breaking the silence.
He chuckled, leaning forward and brushing a piece of hair behind her ear. He let his hand stay on her cheek after that.
"Then don't," He said.
"This is all my mother wanted. She wanted me to get degree and that's what I'm doing," She said, "I can't let her down,"
He understood. Although Luke didn't have a very good relationship with his mother or father, he knew how much her mother meant to her.
"You iris message me whenever you can," he said and she nodded.
"Of course," she promised, feeling the tears brimming on her waterline, "And I'll visit,"
He pulled her in for a hug then. She had never seen him so emotional before, not even when they went on that quest and had to stop off at his mother's house.
"I'll miss you," he muttered into her shoulder, the boys walls crumbling down.
He had never loved someone like he loved Daisy Valance and he knew he never would again.
He also knew that when the time came and the Summer Solstice hit, he would have to make a choice.
They pulled away and she kissed him softly on the lips, "I have to go,"
"I love you," he called out as she walked towards the doors.
She froze where she stood. Sure, she had imagined thus moment a million times over. Of him admitting his love for her and now it was happening.
Daisy didn't hesitate and dropped the bags at her feet and ran over to him, jumping into his arms.
She held onto him tight, not wanting to let go. "I love you too," she mumbled into his shoulder.
Luke could never think of a moment where he had been happier than this.
He kissed the top of her head, holding her face in his hands, "You have to go now,"
She chuckled at his words and so did he, "How do I leave after you said that to me?" She raised an eyebrow at him and he just smiled.
"That's life sweetheart, call me later," he said, pressing a kiss to her lips before pulling away.
She walked over and grabbed her bags before taking one last look at him.
He blew her a kiss and she laughed at how corny the gesture was. With a heavy heart, she turned around and walked into the building.
She said hi to the man at the desk, asking Colin how his family was over Christmas, a giddy grin on her face.
Luke watched her walk into the elevator, the doors closing on her. He closed his eyes, the voice coming back as soon as she left him.
He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to keep them away but he could hear the deep voice echoing in his mind as he drove back to camp.
Holly ran into her arms as soon as she saw Daisy walk into the apartment. Daisy yelped at her mortal best friends affection.
"How was your Christmas girl?" She asked.
Holly was a New York native and had always dreamed of going to NYU amd that's why the two became such close friends.
They were assigned to the same dorm room and had been sharing it since September. They'd become close since then and Daisy didnt know how she'd survive the mortal world without her.
"It was good, actually it was the beat Christmas ever," she said, a smile on her face.
She couldn't hide the giddy smile that seemed to be plastered over her face.
Holly could see it instantly and she cocked her head to the side when she saw that tell tale smile.
"So, tell me all about this boyfriend of yours," she said, folding her arms over her chest as she lookd at her best friend.
Daisy's face went red. She didn't know how Holly had already figured it out.
"What do you mean?" Her eyes were wide and she was trying to work out how Holly knew.
"The guy you were kissing outside. I saw it through the window. Who is he?" She asked.
Daisy sighed, it was just Holly's curiosity and not some malicious force trying to ruin her life
"His name is Luke. He's a year older, we met at this summer camp and he works there now year round to help uh, underprivileged kids," she explained.
It was hard to explain camp when people didn't understand but this made the most sense.
Holly grinned, happy to see her friend so happy, "He sounds amazing, you have to show me a picture,"
Daisy picked up her bag from the door and closed the door. She placed her bags on her bed before she began to dig through it.
She pulled out a couple of Polaroids that had been taken over the winter break and threw them onto the bed haphazardly.
"It's a non-technological place so this is all we got," she explained.
Holly picked them up and started looking at a few of the pictures. Some were new and some were old, dating back nearly five years.
"Who are these other kids?" She asked, showing a picture of some people at a campfire
"That's his sister Annabeth, that one there is my camp bunk leader Lee. Those are some friends, Selena, Nina and Lily,"
Holly looked at a photo of her and Luke wrapped in coats as they stood outside of the big house and then another one where they were kayaking about three summers ago.
"Seems like a fun place," she said, handing the photos back to her friend.
Daisy's face lit up at the fond memories of camp. She missed it so much already.
"It is. Its a second home," she said, a sombre tone to her voice.
She looked at the front picture in silence. It was the most recent one, Luke kissing her on the cheek and Annabeth standing in front of them, almost like their child, with the happiest look on her face.
"You know, I grew up quite poor and this place saved my life. It really saved me," she explained, putting the pictures in her pocket.
Holly heard her phone ring, the sound of Conan Gray echoing through their dorm room.
"God, I gotta go, Calculus is calling," She said as she looked at the alarm on her phone.
She gave her friend a kiss on the cheek before rushing out of the room, her bag slung over her shoulder.
Daisy turned and looked at herself in the mirror, noticing the slight smudge of her lipstick from where Luke had kissed her.
She smiled to herself as she looked down at her camp beads, all five of them, matching with Lukes. She missed it all already.

summary: the one where daisy returns to camp from college and is blinded by her love for him, even as the world ends
wordcount: 2.2k
Tumblr media
The camp felt an unusual chill after the Winter Solstice and although it was partly due to the war between the Gods which the campers had not yet noticed, it was also because of the biggest rift in all of camp.
Chiron had seen demigods fight before at camp. He had watched relationships start and end. He had been to too many funerals to count. Never had he seen a fight like this.
He had never seen two campers be such pillars of Camp Half Blood before. They were the light on a rainy day and nobody knew when or how it happened, they had always been Daisy and Luke. Luke and Daisy.
Camp was cold. They hadn't talked to one another for three days at this point and nobody had ever seen them like this.
Some of the campers watched as Daisy walked into the lunch hall, looking around and completley ignoring the watchful gaze of Luke.
They muttered to themselves as she say down with her three best girl friends in camp.
The kids watched, hesitant. Everyone who had arrived in the last 6 years knew of Luke and Daisy, the inseperable duo.
Annabeth would whisper into every new campers ear about the duo. How even if they didn't see it, they were soulmates. Futures strung together by the fates themselves.
Daisy could feel the eyes in her as she sat with Selena, Lily and Nina.
The three were her best friends at camp. She trusted them more than anything - but she trusted Luke. She used to anyway, now she was starting to doubt it all.
Luke watched her as she sat down. He was with Chris as he toyed with his food, appetite still missing.
He just watched the empty spot on the table. She hadn't even looked at him in days and it made his heart sink.
"Are you two still fighting?" Annabeth said as she walked over, interrupting him and Chris as they sat at the table.
He looked at her, too ashamed to admit it, "No, why would you say that?"
Annabeth scoffed she knew that they were arguing. It was obvious.
But it was also obvious that he loved her. Annabeth saw it from the moment that they met when Daisy laughed at one of his jokes and Lukes face lit up with pride.
"She seems mad, and she doesn't want to talk to you," Annabeth said, arms folded across her chest.
He didnt want to talk about it or think about how mad he was about the whole situation, "We're fine, she's busy. You know how important she is, she has stuff to do,"
"Sure, whatever you say Luke," Annabeth said before walking off.
As soon as she left, he knocked his head onto the table with a groan, furious at himself.
"What's up man?" Chris asked. He had watched him wallow for so long and was tired about it, "What did you do?"
"It's nothing," he sighed, realising it would be good to tell someone, "I told her she had changed since she's been at college,"
Chris scoffed, now understanding why she didn't want to talk to him, "Dude, you gotta calm down, she won't want to come back of you keep complaining about her,"
"I know, I know," Luke said, head in his hands.
Chris sighed, "We can all tell that you love her,"
"Course I love her, she's my best friend," luke responded, feeling his eyes linger on her again.
Chris caught him watching her. The gaze that everyone always wanted, the gaze of the most popular boy in camp always strayed to her.
He could remember a time when every girl tried to shoot their shot at Luke Castellan and gw would just smile and turn to Daisy, wrapping an arm around her shoulder before walking away. He wishes it could be like that again.
"No dumbass. You have feelings for her, you love her," Chris said.
Luke tried to interrupt him, to save himself from losing that reputation be had but Chris wouldn't let him.
"Man, you moped for weeks after she left for school," he stated, "You love her and all the kids know, especially the Aphrodite ones,"
Luke cocked his head, "Why? You been talking to Selena and Lily about me?"
Selena and Lily were half sisters but acted like twins. The latter of which had always caught Chris Rodriguezs eye.
"She says she loves you too," he said.
Lukes gaze, like it always did, landed on the object of his affection, the daughter of Apollo.
Selena looked over her shoulder, "They're staring again,"
Daisy groaned, "I'm not in the mood Selena,"
Selena and Lily looked at one another. They knew that there was more to the story than their friend was letting in.
"Come on. You know he likes you, why don't you just make a m-" Lily started but was stopped by Daisy.
She slammed her hand down on the table, the loud noise echoing through the friend group. None dared to make a sound.
None of them had ever seen the girl so angry before and wondered what had happened during their conversation.
"He doesn't like me like that. If he did then he wouldn't have let me go," she muttered, shrinking in on herself.
Silence filled the group. Nobody knew what to say after her sudden outburst.
Daisy could feel her heart pounding. She looked up and her eyes locked with Lukes. He went to say something, or wave but she averted her gaze, tears welling up.
She couldn't talk to him right now, she couldn't even think about it.
"Can we change the subject?" She asked, wiping her eyes.
The three girls looked at one another, unsure of the extent of this fight, "Of course,"
"Uh, you guys ready for capture the flag?" Nina said as she tried to change the subject and not cause an issue.
Daisy's gaze faltered and she looked over at Luke again. She wasn't listening to the conversation anymore.
Tumblr media
By the end of the game of capture the flag which resulted in a win for Clarisse and her team (the team Daisy was on despite always being on Annabeth and Lukes team) they all sat at the campfire, singing songs.
Michael clapped and the group looked at him and some of the other Apollo kids. They always lead the songs and it was a camp favourite.
"I think we should have our old friend do a song," he said, holding the guitar in Daisy's direction.
Everyone applauded, cheering her on and encouraging her to sing and she accepted the guitar, a nervous feeling building up in her gut.
"I don't know," she said, looking at the guitar.
"Come on, you have the most beautiful voice," Nina said, leaning forward. She also knew that her voice was one of Lukes favourite things about her. She was the siren trying to pull him from the boat, drowning her.
Someone yelled out a song suggestion and she sang it. It was Lukes favourite one but she ignored that fact as she started strumming.
She sang the song, the slow and tragically romantic ballad and he just watched her in awe.
Linda Rondstadt had always been his favourite and when she locked eyes with him, she could see his eyes welled in tears.
The rest of the camp was silent as they listened to her. When she finished, they erupted in applause, some standing up.
The people who had stood up started to sit down, muttering to one another about how amazing her voice was.
The only one left standing was Luke. He was almost in shock, mouth slightly open as he stared at her.
When he noticed that everyone else had sat back down, he followed suit, face lighting up in a blush
"Another one," someone called out through the conversations.
"A more upbeat one this time," Michael Yew said and she nodded.
"I'm gonna take a second, I'll be back soon," she said, wrapping her jacket around herself before walking out towards the lake.
It was in eye distance of everyone else but she just needed some time by herself, she couldn't even bare to be near Luke anymore.
He watched her walk away and felt a sinking feeling in his gut. That's when he saw Selena and Lily walking over.
"You should talk to her," Lily said, fed up of two people who were clearly meant for each other ruining it all.
He folded his arms across his chest, "She doesn't want to talk to me,"
Selena scoffed, "You're right. But why should that stop you?" She questioned.
He took a second to think about it. She was right, he needed to just rip the bandaid off and make the first move.
Luke took a deep breath before he walked over and stood next to her.
She looked up at him before looking back down at the dirt floor. Just looking at him made the tears well up in her eyes.
"Can we talk?" He asked, voice shaky.
She nodded and he sat down next to her, both of them silent. They'd never had this big of a fight before and over what?
"Chiron will be mad if he sees us here alone," She muttered, gaze still laser focused on the floor.
He tilted his head in confusion, "Why? What does he think will happen?"
For the first time since he had arrived, she looked over at him, head cocked to the side, "You know what,"
It took him a second and then it clicked. He laughed at her comment and the sound made that little ball of fear in her stomach dissappear.
She laughed as well, for the first time since their argument. He watched in awe, it was always his favourite sound.
When the laughter died out, the awkward silence fell back over them, wiping away any confidence they had gained.
Luke leaned forward and that's when she noticed how close they were, shoulders brushing.
"I've missed you," he whispered, almost like he didn't want anyone else to hear it, only her, the recipient of his love.
"Yeah, me too," she stated.
She leaned even closer, staring into his dark eyes. She knew she had fallen for him and wouldn't be able to escape, not now, not when he was so close.
"You know, I didn't want to leave camp for college. I just needed something new," she admitted.
He smiled, "I'm not mad that you left, I've just missed you,"
She chuckled, "I've missed you so much. Nobody at NYU compares," she stated.
That's when that signature smirk came on his face, "Compares?" He questioned, curious about her remark.
"I have this friend, Holly, and she keeps trying to set me up with guys. She doesn't know why I say no after one date," she explained.
There was this feeling of jealous bubbling up in his chest but then he realised she had said no to them all.
"Why do you say no?" He questioned, that seed of pride growing in his heart.
He leaned closer as he said that, nose brushing against hers so that they could feel each others breaths on their faces.
She'd never been this close to Luke before. He had never looked at her like this.
"They're not you Luke," she admitted, finally, after so many years, "Nobody ever compared to you,"
He leaned just a little closer, nose nudging against hers. Her breath hitched in her chest as she realised what he was going to go.
That pride filled him up. She had chosen him over anyone else in the world and that was all he needed. She was his now.
"Des," he muttered.
She had only realised that her eyes had fluttered closed at that moment. She opened them again, looking into his eyes, "Yes?"
"I'm gonna kiss you," Luke said, voice seemingly lower than usual.
Daisy felt his hand come up and rest on her cheek and she nodded, "Okay,"
At her verbal confirmation, he leaned in those few inches and pressed his lips against hers.
It was soft and perfect and everything either of them had ever hoped it would be.
He pulled away after a second, "You're perfect," he muttered against her lips.
He could feel her grinning against him and that's when her hand came up, bunching up the collar of his camp shirt and pulling him in for another kiss.
His hand on her cheek moved to the back of her neck and the other to her waist, trying to pullher impossibly closer.
She was drowning in his kiss and couldn't understand why she hadn't done this a million times before.
Daisy didn't know how long they had been kissing for before they pulled apart for some much needed air.
"We should head back, they'll be worried," she said, feeling his lips press against her cheek, then her jaw.
He looked up at her and she thought she'd never forget that sight of his big wide eyes and kiss bitten lips, "I'm sure Selena will know exactly what we're up to,"
She laughed and he forgot all about their argument and just focused on the moment, of the joyful glee in her laugh
"Does this mean you'll go out with me?" He asked.
She shook her head, leaning in, "I've been waiting for you to ask Castellan," she stated.
Daisy leaned in to kiss him again, missing the feeling of him against her already. God, she could get used to this.

summary: the one where daisy returns to camp from college and is blinded by her love for him, even as the world ends

Tumblr media
Being back at camp was the breath of fresh air that Daisy had been looking for.
For the first time in a long time, she finally felt like the weight had been lifted off of her shoulders and there was nothing to worry about.
The whole issue with Luke and the dreams he had been having had brushed over and she knew that he had listened to her.
However, it was after the trip to Mount Olympus on the annual Winter Solstice trip that she knew something was wrong.
It started off small. There was more rain on the way back and she could feel the harsh winds even in camp.
It wasn't just the weird weather, but Luke that was acting strange. He seemed too proud, too excited and she wondered what was up with hi .
"What's wrong with your face?" She asked one day as they sat at the table, eating lunch.
"My face?" He asked, not even trying to hide the smug grin.
She scoffed, turning to him, "You have that little smirk on,"
"I'm just happy, thats all Daisy," he said, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
She looked up at him and the smile on his face and tried to ignore the sickening feeling in her stomach.
Daisy couldn't put her finger on it but he seemed too happy. Something was up.
The most logical thing would be that he had finally got a girlfriend; most of the girls in camp had been trying to date him for years.
"Wow, you're really happy," she said, smile falling from her face as she thought about the possibility.
She knew that she hadnt made any sort of move but she hated that maybe there was some other girl.
He stood up, hands on the table as he leant forward to look at her, "I gotta go, I have to make sure Travis and Connor leave that poor new boy alone,"
The thing he did next surprised her the most. He kissed her on the cheek and she was left sitting there, reeling.
Daisy could feel her face lit up in a blush and a hand came up to touch the patch of skin he'd kissed.
Sure, he'd done that a few times before but it felt different this time, more romantic, domestic even.
She stood up, watching as he rushed off towards the Hermes cabin and she just stared into the distance, shell-shocked.
"Why does he look so happy?" A voice asked.
The teenager jumped a little bit, so lost in her own world and thoughts that she didn't see that someone was behind her.
She recognised the voice instantly and knew there was only one person sneaky enough to do that. When she turned around she saw the culprit of her fright.
"Oh God's Annabeth, you scared me," she said, a hand on her own chest, feeling her own heartbeat.
"Sorry Daisy," Annabeth said, looking up at her.
She loved that little girl more than anything. She was Lukes sister and in turn, Daisy grew protective over her.
Annabeth was the most intelligent and most wise person in the whole camp which is exactly why she was made the camp counsellor of the Athena Cabin.
"I don't know why he looks so happy, maybe it's a girl," she said, hoping that the intelligent girl didn't hear the bitter tone.
Annabeth stared at her for a second, eyebrows furrowed as she looked at Daisy.
"That doesn't make any sense," she said, looking up at her, "He talks about you when you're not here, you should visit more often,"
Annabeth had heard everything about the girl from Luke. He gushed about her all of the time and she knew all about his feelings for her, even if the recipient hadn't figured it out yet.
Daisy looked down at her, the arm that was wrapped around her shoulder falling down.
Maybe there wasn't some other girl. Maybe, just maybe, Luke did like her the way that she wanted him too.
"What do you mean?" She inquired.
Amnabeth hummed in response, "He talks about you. You're his best friend of course,"
She looked over at him as he stood with he new kid, crouched down to his height as he made sure he was okay.
He looked over the little boys shoulder and caught Daisy's eye and his face lit up in a grin.
She knew something was up but right now, she just wanted to accept the fact that he might have feelings for her.
He waved and she waved back, "Huh, thanks for letting me know," she said, face blushing.
She looked down at Annabeth, squeezing her shoulder before the two walked away.

Daisy sat in the cabin and when she saw the little boy that Luke had been talking to earlier sitting on the porch, she stood up and approached him.
He was young. A brunette, short buzz cut hair. As she looked at him, she knew he couldn't be more than 12 years old.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you, whats your name?" She asked, sitting down next to him calmly.
Ever since she got to camp, she had this urge to help any young child who came in, to make sure that they didn't have the same awful experience she initially had.
He was silent for a little while and she could tell he was trying to figure out if he could trust her.
"Archie," he replied, his voice meek.
"It's nice to meet you Archie, I'm Daisy, I'm second in command here at the Apollo cabin," she said, holding her hand out.
Hesitantly, he reached forward and shook her hand, a slight smile on his face.
"I'm scared," he said quietly and she remembered the feeling all too well.
"We all are when we get here," she promised.
He was still silent and then he looked up at her, brown eyes wide, "How old were you when you got here?"
"Ten. I was lucky to have ever made it here but I did," she said. She was quiet for a second as she thought about her arrival.
She was young. A little girl who had only wanted to be safe and save her mother and now she had everything she had ever wanted.
"You'll fit in great here," she promised, a hand on his shoulder.
He was silent and she could see the contemplation on Archies face. He seemed a little less nervous already.
He shook his head, looking away, "What if they think I'm useless?"
She chuckled, "You can't be useless. Here in the Apollo cabin, everyone has their own skills, no matter how big or small," she promised.
Daisy turned around and looked through the window at some of the other campers.
It was dark outside, night falling on the camp and they were all getting ready to sleep inside. The boy looked through the window as well.
He could see how busy the Apollo cabin was. It was the second largest cabin, after Hermes of course.
"That boy over there, Will, he's a brilliant Healer and he's only 10, that girl Kayla, she has a gift with light and Nina over there is the greatest opera singer you'll ever hear," she said.
"I love music," he admitted.
She chuckled, "Me too. Its a trait we got from dad," she said, turning around again to look at the scenery.
She loved the view of the lake, so much that everyone had thought she might be Poseidons daughter. But she was much more of an Apollo than anything else.
The door opened and she saw Luke walk in. He stood by the open door, leaning against the wall.
"Mind if I join ya," he asked.
She always thought that he was gorgeous in the moonlight, the scar on his cheek lit up in colour, his eyes glowing.
She cleared her throat, hoping he wouldnt have noticed how she was admiring him, "It's after 9 Luke, you'll get yourself in trouble,"
There was that smile again, "For you darling, I'll do anything," he said.
Daisy felt her face heating up in a blush. He had never called her that and the nickname made chills run down her spine. She didn't know what was going on with him.
Once again, she cleared her throat to try and hide her emotion, "Archie, this is my friend Luke, he is the Head of the Hermes cabin,"
Archie nodded, "Yeah, we met when I first joined,"
"Yeah, i remember you kid. You'll fit in great here, and with Daisy here, nothing could go wrong," He said, placing his hand on the boys shoulder.
Archie yawned and she could see how tired he was. She remembered how exhausted she was when she first arrived at camp.
It's overwhelming at first, for your whole life to be turned upside down but it was all worth it in the end.
"Why don't you go get some rest kid? you deserve it," she suggested.
She ruffled his hair and he stood up, waving goodbye to them before walking out and back into the cabin.
"Sweet kid," Luke muttered before he sat down next to her.
She looked at him for a second before leaning her head down on his shoulder.
"Yeah, he is," she said, sighing, "I can't believe he's so young. I was scared when I came here but hes so tiny,"
He looked down at her, a hand brushing down her hair. He thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world, even if she didn't think that herself all the time.
"Amnabeth was about his age," luke said.
She remembered when they got into camp for the first time. She had been there for seven months and in came two scared demigods who had lost a lot.
"I know, I know," Daisy muttered, leaning up again and watching as he stood up, "It's crazy,"
"They should be stopped. The Gods shouldn't be able to just torment little kids like this and you know it," he started pacing.
Daisy sighed. She recognised this regular spiel of his. He thought the God's should pay for what they did and she agreed.
They just had a different opinion in the way that these things should be dealt with.
"I agree. There should be more safety for them, but that's not our job," she said, reaching a hand out to stop him.
He scoffed. Luke was so adamant that there was something that he could do to help the other kids that sometimes he was blinded from what was in front of him.
"We have the opportunity to change the world and you won't take it. You won't help kids like Archie," he said.
That was the final straw for Daisy. She hated that he thought she didn't care, she did. She just had different views than Luke did.
She stood up, pointing her finger at him, "Don't say that to me,"
"Des-" Luke started to backtrack when he realised what he had said.
She was furious and on a mission, she wouldn't let him talk down to her like that, "I do everything I can for these kids. I've put in years and years to try and make their lives something better,"
He hadn't seen Daisy that mad for a long time. She did do a lot but in his eyes, it was not nearly enough.
"I do everything for them too. Now you're at college. It's changed you, you've lost the spark," he spat out, that residual anger bubbling up.
She had always known there was anger in him but had never really seen it. She didn't like it.
That's when she saw him change, the same change after their quest together.
"What have you done Luke?" She asked, voice calming down.
It was less of anger and more like she was talking down an angry animal, or a man about to jump off a cliff.
He took a deep breath, calming down too, "You won't want to know,"
There was an eerie tone to the conversation. It was weird for them to act like this.
Daisy scoffed. She didn't want to think about what he had done, "I can't believe you, I can't believe you,"
She stormed off, walking over to the door and slamming it open. He followed her out, wanting to explain it to her.
"Daisy, come on," he said, grabbing her wrist and stopping her from getting too far.
She narrowed her eyes at him, yanking her arm away from him. He had never done something like that before.
Lukes eyes softened. He hadn't understood why he had done that. He would never want to hurt her on purpose.
"Don't talk to me right now," she said, taking a step away from him.
Someone in the cabin shushed them and she could see some people watching their argument.
None of them had ever seen Luke and Daisy argue to this extent and they all knew that something was wrong.
"Get out of my cabin," she spat out.
"Daisy," luke said as he stepped closer to her.
She stepped out of the way, pointing at the door to try and kick him out even faster.
She scoffed, there was nothing that he could do to make it better right now, "Get out," she exclaimed.
He walked out in silence. He stood outside of the door for a couple of seconds, waiting to see if she would come out to see him.
Luke knew that he had screwed up and he was trying to think of things he could do to save it all. He couldn't lose her.
For a second, he watched the door. He knew that the only thing he could do was leave her for a little while to settle so he walked away, hoping he could repair it all.
Daisy looked around at her friends before watching him walk away from the window.
She climbed into her bed, tucked herself into the covers in her normal clothes and cried herself to sleep, wondering what he had done wrong this time.

The winter Solstice was creeping up on Daisy Valance. She knew she had to head to camp to see her friends again and it helped that her mums new boyfriend Nick had taken her on a trip so she didn't feel so guilty.
Last summer had been her fifth at camp and she loved it like it was home to her. Because it was.
She felt safest there. Although she loved her mother and she loved going to NYU, she still loved Camp Half Blood.
She was wrapped up at in a coat, her suitcase in her hand as she looked around at the place she called home.
Daisy waved at Chiron as he walked over, or galloped, she was never quite sure how to describe it.
"Miss Desdemona," he said, bowing his head.
She chuckled, "You are the only one that calls me that Chiron," she said, walking alongside him as he walked further into camp.
She remembered coming into camp years ago and seeing it all for the first time. The feeling never went away.
"Look who the minotaur dragged in," a voice said and she turned around when she heard the voice.
She recognised him in an instance. It was her best friend in the whole world, the only person who ever truly understood her.
"Luke Castellan, charming as always," she said, dropping her suitcase down as she walked over.
He pulled her into a hug, holding her tight. The last few weeks had been hard without her.
She was his best friend and that was it. But he had always wanted more.
His dreams were getting worse and worse. He could see him standing there, taunting him, telling him that he had things that he needed to do.
He was torn between it all. He wanted to fulfill what he thought was his destiny but he wanted her as well - that's something he hadn't even managed to say to her yet.
"Good to see you again," he said, wrapping his arm around his shoulders.
"You too Luke," she said, "I'm sorry I missed your wins at capture the flag,"
"It's fine, a boy doesn't wins twice in a row often," he joked, looking down at her.
"Shut up," she said, stepping away from him and hitting him on the arm, "Now, help me with my bags?"
She looked over at where her bag was to see Chiron standing there, a smile on his face.
He had been working at this camp for years and had never seen a couple quite like them. Having spent years to admit their adoration for one another.
The issue was that he had heard of Lukes fate. That something bad would happen to him even if he didnt know what it was.
He hadn't told anyone but knew that something tragic would occur. He didnt want the couple to falter because of that.
He leaned down and picked her bag up, handing it over to the boy.
They started walking, side by side. It was like they were joined at the hip and couldn't seperate.
They didn't hear the whispers of their camp mates as they walked past. Luke and Daisy were icons in camp so to see them together was news to them all.
They walked into the apollo cabin and they cheered when she walked inside of the room.
She laughed, a blush spreading over her cheeks as she listened to the cheers of her coming in.
Daisy loved her cabin. She had never felt a home like the camp before and they all meant a lot to her.
A little blonde boy rushed up and she pulled him in for a hug.
"How was college Daisy?" He asked, looking up at her.
He was the closest thing she had to a little brother. She had been the one to bring him here and she looked after him fiercely.
"Good Will, its nice there," she said.
She couldn't tell any of them how lonely it felt sometimes, being the only demigod there. Always watching her back to make sure there weren't any monsters.
"I don't get to see you enough," Luke said, leaning against the empty bunk bed. He knew the top one was hers.
She shrugged, a sad smile on her face, "You see me often enough,"
"You don't come back enough, I agree," Will said, walking closer to Luke.
Luke smiled, leaning down and ruffling the kids hair, "Thanks for standing up for me kid,"
"Where's Lee and Michael?" She asked, changing the subject.
"They're somewhere, dealing with the new kid who just joined," Luke explained.
"Very nice," Daisy said, looking at Will, "You should tell me all about what's happened since summer,"
He started talking and then Luke looked down at his watch. He really needed to talk to her.
"Actually, can i borrow her for a minute Will, I need to talk to her," he said.
He had a solemn tone to his voice and she knew that meant that something was wrong.
She worried about him all the time. She didn't want something bad to happen, for those nightmares to take affect him him.
Will nodded and then Luke turned to Daisy, "Can we go for a walk?"
He was serious. Too serious. Her smile faded, "Sure,"
There was silence between the two as they walked through the woods, muscle memory taking them to their favourite spot.
When she saw the lake, she remembered all of her best memories that occurred here. Her eighteenth birthday party.
The moment she realised she loved Luke.
It was here, at this very lake and now, as she sat down next to him on that very same log, she knew something was wrong.
There was a prolonged silence. It was awkward and neither knew what to say and that was new for them. They were always comfortable around one another so what changed?
"You okay?" She asked, looking over at him.
He shook his head, silent. There was this moment where he looked like he was going to say it but he didn't.
His Adams apple bobbed as he fought back the urge to tell her everything. He had to be careful with what he was going to say.
"You gotta tell me what's going on here," Daisy said after a while. She couldn't wait for him forever.
He squeezed his eyes shut, not wanting to see her reaction, "I had another one of those dreams,"
She scoffed, "Luke. I told you not to listen to those," she said, almost scolding him.
These dreams had been occurring for years, ever since he was 17 and went off on that quest his dad sent the two of them on.
She could remember him afterwards. She had been injured but his internal problems were worse than anything she sustained.
Daisy had told him that those dreams were dangerous, that he should tell Chiron but he had ignored her ever since; his pride was getting the better of him.
"They're making sense. They all make sense," he tried to explain.
He reached over, hand on her knee as he tried to convince her that these were right.
She shook her head, "They don't. He's trying to manipulate you,"
She was desperate at this point, trying to reason with him. Nothing good would happen if he kept on going the way he was.
Daisy couldn't lose the man she loved. She had lost so much in her life and he was the only one that stuck around. She loved him, even if he didnt feel the same.
"He is right, our parents don't care about us," he said.
She scoffed at his incredulous statement, "I could have told you that," she knew they didn't care but that wasn't reasoning for war.
He reached forward and took her hands in his. Only then did she realise that she hadn't been looking at him.
Luke rubbed his thumb over her knuckles and she looked up at him, eyes meeting his. She could see the vulnerability in his face - he really thought he was doing something important.
Her face blushed a little bit at the intimacy of the moment, her hands in his, his eyes locked on hers.
"Come on Des, this is it, this is our time to take charge of our future," he begged, desperate.
This was Lukes moment to achieve everything in his life that he had wanted. But the other thing he wanted was the girl in front of him.
He couldn't let her down.
"Don't listen to him," she begged, feeling the tears burning up behind her eyes at the thought of losing him.
He brushed his thumb over her hand again, trying to sooth her as he heard the break in her voice, "I should. He's right about everything,"
He wasn't looking at her. He couldn't bare to see the pain in her eyes.
"Luke," she begged.
He looked up at her now, seeing the tears welling up in her waterline. She never cried so to see her like that meant that this was important to her.
"Please, listen to me." He asked, desperate to get his point across, "He wants me to take something from the God's and I'm going to do it,"
Her heart pounded in her chest. This could completely ruin his life and the world. She couldn't let that happen.
"Promise me you won't," she begged.
He hated seeing her like this, "I have to," he muttered, voice breaking.
"Prmoise me you won't. You're my best friend Luke, promise me," Daisy was desperate. She had to stop him.
He watched the tear slip from her eye and roll down her cheek. Luke reached up, the pad of his thumb brushing across her cheekbone.
"Okay, for you," he said, hand staying on her cheek, "I promise,"
She pulled him in for a hug, holding his against her for a little while.
Daisy wanted to believe him, she wanted to hope that he would stick to his promise and maybe it was the rose coloured glasses that prevented her from seeing the truth.
"I won't let anything happen to you, ever," he promised, words muffled as he spoke them into her shoulder.
He pulled away, brushing a strand of hair away from her face so that it was behind her ear.
"Okay," she muttered, hoping that this was all real. That he wouldn't hurt her because why would he?
The nightmares that she had after his quest came back that night.
The image of the man in the middle of the woods came back again, cloacked in darkness, covered in fear.
She woke up in a sweat, eyes pooled with tears. She didn't know that this was the start of the end for her, that this man would ruin her life.
Daisy closed her eyes and tried to fall back asleep in blissful ignorance about what was soon to come.
