Villa Gug In Aalborg, Denmark, By @big_builds
Nestled near a rugged concrete road is âVilla Gug,â a uniquely designed minimalistic-styled home in Aalborg, Denmark. The home is designed to express an overwhelming sense of openness with the help of its horizontal windows, allowing for natural light to seep inside the home. Materials used to construct the home so that it perfectly harmonizes with its overall environment and traditional architecture are Nordic white bricks, timber, concrete, and steel, which have been developed to allow for the home to blend with the environment while maintaining a modern, contemporary aesthetic.
Its circular design allows for an expansive and panoramic view of the area. Amenities include a garden, pool, a roof terrace, lounge areas, garage space, and more. The home is two stories; it is built on a hillside, which causes a section of the home to overlap, creating a bridge between the two floors. The overall design was intended to convey comfort and stability within an isolated, open area that provided a minimalistic lifestyle.

Kona Village Resort has been known for its connection to Hawaiian culture ever since it first opened in 1965. Tucked away on Kahuwai Bay along the Kohala Coast, it quickly became one of the islandâs most notable hotels due to its remote location and pristine scenery â but what truly set it apart was how it was fully embraced and conveyed the unique spirit of Hawaii and its people. When a tsunami hit the Big Island in 2012, however, the hotelâs signature hales (thatched huts) were left in ruins. Now, With the help of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, Greg Warner of Walker Warner Architects and design firm NICOLEHOLLIS, the beloved resort opened its doors once again earlier this week.
The revival of Kona Village comes nearly a decade after its destruction â and seven years after the development process began â but the storied hotel remains adamantly connected to its roots. Kennedy Wilson, a real estate firm that prioritizes sustainability, joined the collaborative effort, and ensured the extensive project was as least intrusive as possible to the local land. Warner also enlisted Re-Use Hawaii to assure any unused materials from the demolition were repurposed back to the Big Island.
âIt was incredibly important to all partners that the mana â or special energy â of the site was honored and protected,â says Joanne Behrens, Rosewoodâs VP of design and project services for the Americas. The relaxed Pacific Ocean feel of the idyllic hotel is stemmed âbarefoot luxuryâ by Walker Warner: a casual aesthetic approach that embraces simplicity. Kona Village amalgamates the design work of 60 Hawaiian artists and designers as well, connecting it to the islandâs history and heritage.
Five restaurants sit at the resortâs center alongside the Asaya Spa, giving guests a central place to convene and reimagining the communal feel that drew guests in since the resortâs initial opening. Check out more photos in the gallery above.

The name Simon Brette might not ring a bell, except maybe to a small group of highly seasoned collectors. Yet, Simon has been behind the conception of many important modern watches by renowned independent watchmakers (think Chronode, MB&F and more). Two years ago, following some changes in his personal life and probably the effect of the pandemic, Simon Brette decided that it was time for him to fly solo⊠Or at least, to steer the ship with artisanship and human values in mind, and the help of talented suppliers. The result of his convictions takes shape today, and the result, named Simon Brette ChronomÚtre Artisans Subscription Edition, is a time-only watch the way we love it. Overly engineered, ultra-decorated, modern and traditional at the same time. And stunning on the wrist too.

Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman use everyday objects such as buttons, shoelaces, pencils, and childrenâs coloring books as handles to open the door into the HermĂšs dreamscapes. the designers created six display windows, a two-level corner show window, and five street windows for the HermĂšs flagship store in Hong Kong, exploring creativity to arouse the viewerâs imagination.
Their strategy of repetition and color creates mesmerizing window displays, reflecting the rich universe of HermĂšs. the magical installations include a landscape entirely comprised of colorful scrapbooks, covering the surfaces, and display products for the road, that allow traveling in style. in another window, the duo challenges the laws of nature, positioning theHermĂšs circus tea set in a juggling act. the delicate porcelain dishes seem to be thrown for a spin.
