Anyway here’s a poem I wrote about my cat
After “Do not stand at my grave and weep”, author disputed:
Do not stand at your bowl and meow.
I gave you food. It’s in there now.
I feed you at the dawning light,
I feed you at the fall of night.
I feed you kibbles mixed with meat
And wet food for a special treat.
I feed you even though you scoff
At all the food within your trough.
I feed you and still yet you yell
Like as a beast from deepest hell.
Do not stand at your bowl and cry.
I gave you food. You will not die.

As you get older you start turning into your parents but not necessarily in a bad or good way. Like I noticed recently that the tune I hum to myself when working is the same one that my dad whistles when he’s doing dishes which was the same tune his uncle whistled when he was doing farm chores and I like the same sorts of foods my mother did even though she died when I was young and my brother fills up his glasses a bit too full the same way she did and his footsteps sound exactly like our dad’s
And you start to notice the things that have always been there. The same jokes you make over and over again, the way you sit on plastic chairs. There’s a lot different between you and your parents but there’s a lot that’s similar too and in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t mean much but I do hum a tune whistled over 40 years ago by a man I’ve never met on a farm I’ve never been to and isn’t that something

I understand now why parents want you to get married to someone well settled
