social media has really warped our perception of creativity and hobbies. Stop doing things to post them. Just write. Just journal. Just sketch. Just read. Just annotate. Just sing. Just crochet. Just do the thing you’re going to do with the assumption no one will ever see or know you did it. Stop performing. Just enjoy it.

Making sure I take time to relax is something I really struggle with while at uni. I either work too much, or scroll through my phone, which doesn’t help me replace the energy I’ve lost. I’m trying to make more of an effort to relax in ways that I find fulfilling… but honestly that’s really hard a lot of the time.
Tonight I’m sitting lying in bed and reading The Shining by Steven King before I go to bed. I think the only way to read a King novel is from a bashed up secondhand book!

So I thought the final couple of weeks of term would be fairly chill as I only had one assignment left which is a presentation and they’re never much stress.
But then life happened…
The archives I need to go to for my dissertation close for most of December. So I need to go to them this week, otherwise I’ll be delayed by a month and I can’t afford that.
I’ve found a house to live in next year when I do my masters, which means I now have a load of paperwork.
I also need to apply for my masters which includes writing a personal statement.
And obviously all my usual daily uni stuff along with making a presentation… So my chill two weeks has turned into two weeks of unplanned stress.

real question to all of my fellow book reading people. how do you guys mark your place? do you use a bookmark, dog ear, memorize the page #, or a secret other thing???? 📚

I feel like public libraries don’t get enough hype. Like, you’re telling me all I have to do is give you my name and address and promise to bring the books back and I’m allowed to take as many as i want??? And I can check them out over and over again if I need to??? And I only pay if I damage or lose the book???? If this is where my tax money is going then please keep on taxing.

do you ever feel nostalgic about a book? like yes I read it, yes I experienced it, yes I obssessed over it. but that is not enough. i want it to never end, this constant, overwhelming feeling of being consumed by a book. i want it i want it i want it.

Got to the library at the very early time of 8am because my boyfriend had to go to work. The library is so empty so I should be able to smash out a bit of week. Need to read a book chapter for a seminar tomorrow, and then come up with a presentation idea and run it past my tutor.

My brain is very uncooperative when it comes to studying. Here's how I get around to doing it.
We humans have a monkey brain that will chase random hits of dopamine rather than study, even when we're pretty motivated to advance ourselves.
If you live with someone, tell them you need to study, and go sit in a communal area where they will likely see you. If you live alone, you'll have to haul yourself to a public library, friends house, whatever. This is called making yourself accountable.
That's it. The most effective study tactic I've figured out after studying hours daily, for years.
