The Entrepreneurial Lecture Series

The lecture series is really that important in holding on to the vision you've made, especially with the products and services in this subject, the GEE-16. In our group, which is group 3, we are in a good situation since we exceeded the minimum interviewee, which is a hundred. This could help us in validating our product more if it is applicable and accessable to everyone. The success of our validation process is really because of the help of the Entrepreneurial Lecture Series via Google Meet, Zoom, and even live on Facebook.

In our journey through the subject, especially in the lecture series, the speakers were really helpful and really had excellence in their lectures. They delivered the information clearly and we'll. That information is really valuable and important in equipping and enhancing the best of our minds.

The first out of three lectures was conducted on April 28, 2022, with the guest speaker Dr. Gamaleola A. Dumancas. In the first of three lectures, which took place, we learned how important it is to protect your ideas, thoughts, and discoveries by filing patent applications. Intellectual property rights and the principles of patents, utility models, and copyright were discussed.

The second lecture was on April 25, 2022, and the guest speaker was Ms. Janine S. Eballe, one of the startup founders in our very own locality. The speaker also had a very meaningful and helpful discussion that is really vital to each and everyone. She covered how to form a start-up team and where to go for financial support, as well as their organization's start-up journey.

In the third and last lecture, the speaker was Ms. Alice Therese L. Caballeda on April 28, 2022. I do have a lot of learning with this lecture series since it was very crucial, especially since our final presentation is near. We were taught about how to pitch properly and to learn about fundraising. We talked about anything from startup funding to how to prepare for a business pitch. I'm still pleased we had the opportunity to learn from these experts for our own enterprise.

With the series of lectures, my group mates and I are very pleased and now ready for the next activity. My teammates really did a great job because, as I've said, we exceeded our goal number of interviewees. We've also made some changes to our startup concept, taking into account our professor's recommendations on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and other factors. All of this has been a long but satisfying process, and hopefully we will be able to complete it shortly. We are still holding strong with our vision and just trusting the process with the help of the speakers and professors.

Keep Calm and Nail the Interview.

Never be too busy to meet someone.

Midterm examination week was a busy week for all the students, and apparently, I had not started my interview yet. I have a lot of suspects for my customer, and I have in mind what to do or what would be my platform to use in interviewing. At first, I doubted myself since I am not into people. I'm not saying that I’m very shy, but the audacity to make contact with someone I didn’t know makes me feel very nervous. This was not my first time interviewing, but this was my first time interviewing non-ordinary people. I struggled at first, but over time, I realized the importance of making contact with people and showing how friendly I am when doing an interview. It’s not about how you feel throughout the interview, but the connection we will build throughout the interview.

On this day, April 15, 2022, I have a total of 14 interviewees, but they all have different perspectives or answers to all the questions prepared for them. In the middle of the journey, I encountered a lot of people, especially since my channel for this interview was just a social media platform, specifically the messenger, and I was very willing to do an interview with all those who didn’t know me. I feel blessed and, at the same time, exhausted from all the interviews, but it was my privelage to at least communicate with other people who will be our target customers for our product proposal.

I really feel valuable and nail all my interviews. It was really important to me for our product validation, and it is really vital to first ask people about this problem and, with that, how the HTP, or Household Tracker Chip, would benefit them along the way. In my interview, I encountered people who were not that appropriate with their answers, but still, I am happy doing so. It was really good to feel that I had met a lot of people. In the activity, I encountered a clingy person because I know that all people are different and yet I took all the risks in interviewing because I knew it was the best thing to do. Also, I have two interviewees who answered "Do you often lose things?" and they said "no" because they are very organized and don’t really forget things easily. In my mind, I was very shocked because I know that there are still people like them who will not need the product we are going to propose. Additionally, I feel very happy with my outcome so far this time and I hope that I will give time to interviewing more people, especially adult citizens. I have never been so busy interviewing and making friends with everyone, because meeting someone will be a good step towards success.

Creativity is Intelligence and Having Fun

The last two (2) weeks of the discussion really made my week very happy and productive. The journey of learning this subject was very enjoyable from the beginning of the topic up until now. Firstly, we tackled the creative person, followed by the behavior patterns of entrepreneurs, the voice of the user, and lastly, market validation. I’ve also noticed to myself that I’ve figured out a lot of problems and issues nowadays that needed a solution by creating creative products or even services. The venture proposal really enlightened my mind to the things that really happen nowadays. Making the venture proposal is not that simple, but it’s also not stressful at all since it’s a group activity and a lot of minds are sharing their ideas and thoughts to make this thing easy.

Apart from making venture proposals, the discussion every week was very fun. I don’t know, but to be honest, I really love listening to and learning new things about this subject since the instructor was very kind and approachable all the time. I really do appreciate the effort exerted by our instructor during the discussion because, even though it’s a pandemic and it’s known that online classes are boring since some of the teachers are just reading the PowerPoint presentation, although I am not pointing out that we cannot learn, it really had an impact on the students to have an online class with fun and I could see it for this subject.

My most awaited part of the discussion was the activity. It is more like creating a creative mindset and just being happy and enjoying the topic and learning from what I’ve been doing. This subject had a significant impact on my future life because it enhanced my creativity as a person. Thinking skills should be inherited for this subject, as well as logical thinking. I was also able to determine who I was with my group. Am I the one who contributes knowledge or just contributes confidence to them? This lesson makes me think what a creative person I am now for my group and the people.

The Golden Rule that people knew was to “Treat others as you would like to be treated,” but in entrepreneurship, the golden rule was to “Treat others as they WANT to be treated.” It is critical in entrepreneurial behavior patterns to treat customers with respect, even if their attitude is negative. It is really good to accept hurtful words from your customers and learn from those mistakes. Success cannot be committed to if a person hasn’t experienced failure. It’s okay to fail occasionally; at the very least, you’ve learned from your mistakes and begun a new one. Entrepreneurs really have an impact on all of their behavioral patterns. These could be the things that they would remember in dealing with businesses. The pride must be set aside, and even if it’s your enemy, but it would be your customer then, you must set aside the anger and be a friendly entrepreneur. In this case, patience really is a virtue for success. Also, it is really good to think wisely about what may happen in reality and in the future. Your plans are really good, but we must adjust to the reality and be open to a failed outcome.

Additionally, through observations, we can understand people’s needs and problems. That is why interviewing people who don’t know you will eventually help you think critically and accept the fact of what people will tell you about your product. This could be the basis for a good product and could be something that a lot of people could benefit from. I am really excited about interviewing people who are new to me and finding out their needs. I also don’t just communicate with them, but learn from them.

Entrepreneurship: Setting sail towards new ventures

Entrepreneurship is defined as the process of making an opportunity and pursuing it despite current resources being controlled. On the other hand, Harvard University defined it as the pursuit of opportunities with no regard to the resources controlled. With this, the concept of entrepreneurship really enlightened my mind to the things that happen in daily life. The introduction of the subject "entrepreneurial mind" or the GEE16 will be very helpful in the near future. This would allow me to look at the beauty of having a productive life. To tell you honestly, before the orientation, or introduction of the subject, I really felt scared about what the subject would be all about, and then, thankfully, the instructor, who is Ms. Shigella Pauline Hebra, taught us with passion and love. The instructor's attitude really has an impact on my beliefs on this subject. I remember the day, the exact time and exact moment when I heard Ms. Shigella's voice, and it relieved my insecurities on this subject. With this introduction, I feel alive since I learned new things that were far beyond my imagination. This subject is so thrilling since it doesn't focus on just one place but the whole world.

This allows me to learn what other countries do and how their start-ups grow. I know that on this journey, a lot of obstacles and challenges will be overcome, but with self-determination, nothing will be impossible. Things will get easier as time goes by since I already know what would be the right thing to do. Now, I can feel and taste the success of being productive. With the pandemic being experienced, we tend to be unproductive, but we should find ways to become productive. Don't just live, exist! There's a whole lot of adventure waiting for you. Join me in my journey as I set sail towards new ventures in entrepreneurship.
