I visited family in Boston over the holidays and we explored the Harvard Museum of Natural History. The plants are from the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants which was created by a pair of incredibly talented Czech artisans in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The level of detail they achieved is stunning.

My final exam was this morning, so I'm officially finished with the first semester of M1 year. Here's a few sunny scenes from the last few weeks.

I officially finished medical school anatomy on Friday so I had time to relax this weekend. I visited some friends across the state, baked pumpkin bread, and binge-read Tamora Pierce books.

09.28.2023 - less than a week to go until my anatomy final. Luckily, the cooler weather has put me in the mood to study.

It's been over a year since I shared anything, but I wanted to say that I started medical school last month! It took me three gap years and two application cycles to get here. So far I love it! Getting in wasn't easy, but I'm so glad I didn't give up. We had our first anatomy exam a week ago and I got a 97 which really boosted my confidence.
If you have big dreams, don't quit!

Since my last post, I have interviewed with one medical school. Given that it's March, that will probably be the only interview I get this cycle. The interview was in the Multiple Mini Interview style and I think that it went well.

I visited my aunt and uncle on New Years Day and enjoyed the mist on the river. It is time to send out update letters to medical schools and I’m aiming to finish mine by the 10th. Hopefully my letter will help me to get an interview invite somewhere.

What language are you trying to learn?
I'm focusing on Spanish right now. I studied it in high school but then went a couple years without practicing. I've mostly been using Duolingo to study. One of my goals for this year is to read an entire book in Spanish!

Waiting for an interview invite has continued to be a lesson in patience. There’s still a couple months to hear back, but I’m starting to think about the next application cycle. I really hope I will be moving on to medical school next fall.

It’s been a long time since I posted here and it’s mostly because I’m still waiting for an interview invite. I haven’t had any so far and the waiting is difficult. Hopefully I’ll get an interview soon. In the meantime I’m still working as a medical scribe to gain experience and trying to use my free time productively.

Fall has finally arrived in my town and although I miss the evening light, I’m enjoying crisp mornings and crunchy leaves. I’m planning to listen to a podcast on the history of Rome today. Does anyone have recommendations for history podcasts?

I finished my September spread a few days late but I like how it turned out. The back-to-school season makes me nostalgic for undergrad. Hopefully this time next year I’ll be busy with med school classes and nostalgic for my gap year!

I haven’t heard back yet from any of the schools I sent secondaries to, and I’m starting to get nervous. I know it can take weeks to months to get interview invitations, but I’ll feel better once I hear from at least one school.

In case anyone thinks I have my life together, I should announce that I’ve only turned in two secondaries even though it’s been three weeks. Hopefully sending in another tonight. I took the CASPer; it’s weird. Definitely take the practice test before trying the real one. Reached a 365 day Duolingo streak today which was satisfying.

My application finished AMCAS processing and was sent out to med schools! Now it’s time for the secondary applications. I also need to sign up for the CASPer test which I somehow didn’t realize I need, yikes.
